Saina Nehwal, ace shuttler, won the Syed Modi International India Grand Prix Gold badminton crown, against PV Sindhu, on January 26. The shuttler, who broke a 15- month title drought, feels that the victory was much needed.

“I think my victory was much needed as I won something after a very long time. Last year was not that good for me and winning this title has helped me,” said the shuttler, adding, “The title has been a confidence booster for me as I wanted to do really well and this has helped me get my position back.”

This was Saina’s 22nd final match and the win has helped her earn 7000 points and she has also climbed up the ranking ladder. “If you perform, the ranking automatically goes up. But I am not focussed on rankings right now. I want to win titles and focus on my performance,” she added.
