Actress Tamannaah Bhatia is confident that the magic of Kangana Ranaut-starrer ‘Queen’ will be recreated in its Telugu version which was officially launched on Sunday.
The remake, to be directed by Neelakanta Reddy, has been titled ‘Queen Once Again’.
“It’s an exciting project and I love doing roles that talk about women empowerment. I’m confident we can recreate the magic of the original. At the same time, not make our film look like a frame-to-frame remake. We’ll adapt it to suit Telugu sensibilities,” Tamannaah said in an interview.
Ever since she saw the Vikas Bahl directed ‘Queen’, she wanted to be a part of its remake. “I wasn’t even sure if it was going to be remade. What makes ‘Queen’ special is that it’s one of those rare women centric films which succeeded in reaching out to everybody, across all sections of the audience,” she said.
Tamannaah starts shooting for the project from October 25. ‘Queen’ is the story of the self-exploration of a young Punjabi girl, played by Kangana, who embarks on her honeymoon to Paris alone after her fiance calls off the wedding. Last week, the Tamil and Telugu versions of ‘Queen’ were launched. The Tamil version, which has been titled ‘Paris Paris’, stars Kajal Aggarwal in the lead.
The Kannada version, which has been titled ‘Butterfly’ and stars Parul Yadav, has already gone on the floors. Actor filmmaker Ramesh Aravind is directing the Tamil as well as Kannada versions of the remake. Source: IANS
This courtroom drama tries to decode the life and criminal activities of India’s most wanted fugitive – Dawood Ibrahim’s late sister Haseena Parkar, who allegedly headed her brother’s crime syndicate in Mumbai and ran proxy business for him.
REVIEW
As the film shuttles between past and present, it passionately lists down the gang wars and events that led to Dawood’s rise as a crime lord-terrorist and its repercussions on his family, including his sister Haseena, who was summoned to the Court only once (2007), despite the many offences registered against her. Incidentally, the recent arrest of Dawood’s brother Iqbal Kaskar (‘while he was having biryani’), from his Mumbai residence on charges of extortion, made one wonder why the bigger fish continues to roam scot free. While the siblings are obviously no saints, do they somewhere bear the brunt of belonging to the D family? This disappointingly shallow biopic tries to decipher this debatable thought.
However, given Apoorva Lakhia’s poor direction and penchant for making films on Mumbai’s underworld dons that ride on sensation over substance, all you get is a tanned Shraddha Kapoor who looks like she’s holding two kachoris in her mouth. The actress is ‘lucky’ to be getting biopics (she will essay the role of badminton ace Saina Nehwal next), given her limited acting skills. But let us clarify, Shraddha is not the weakest link here.
The treatment, jarring background score and setting, is equally sloppy as Dongri, Nagpada, Dubai, Mulund, Bhandup…all look the same. Also, the stereotypes are laughable. Siddhant Kapoor (badly dubbed) as Dawood, roams around aimlessly in Dubai, goes on candlelight dinners with random girls and chills in his bathtub as Mumbai burns (1993). The judge examining Haseena Parkar’s case, comes across as a nincompoop.
After starring in movies like ‘Pink’ and ‘Naam Shabana’, working on ‘Judwaa 2’ was nothing less than a picnic for Taapsee Pannu. Pink won the National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues, and ‘Naam Shabana’ had Taapsee playing an Indian spy. Taapsee says, that after doing two intense films, it was important for her to take a break.
She says, “I have no qualms in admitting that the reason I chose a film like ‘Judwaa 2’ was to avoid being typecast. I thought, before people typecast me, saying, ‘Oh, she can only do hardhitting, intense roles’ and put me in the category of offbeat actresses, I should shock and surprise them. I hate being called an offbeat actress and I don’t consider myself one as my films have been a huge commercial success. ‘Judwaa 2’ is an attempt to surprise the audience and surprises have always worked in my favour. In ‘Baby’, people loved my 10-minute role which was a surprise to many; in Pink, when people thought that apart from Mr Bachchan nobody else would get the limelight, I did make a mark, and so was the case with ‘Naam Shabana’. After all these films, when people might have thought that this is working for her and she might continue doing these kind of films, here I am, playing a typical Bollywood heroine because I know that I can carry that off as well.”
The actress says that working on ‘Judwaa 2’ has been special for her as that has been one of her favourite films since childhood. She says that she must have been nine when she would have watched the film, and since then, she’s remembered dialogues, scenes and lyrics from the movie. “My memories of Judwaa are so strong that I remember the lyrics better than Varun Dhawan. When I shot for ‘Chashme Baddoor’ with David (Dhawan) sir in Mauritius, on the last day of the shoot, I forced David sir to shoot ‘Oonchi Hai Building’ with me as a promotional video, without having any idea that four years later, I would get to do this film,” she says. Priyanka Chopra is on the top of her game and there is just no stopping her. The actress who has two People’s Choice Awards to her name is now among the top ten of the highest paid television actresses in the world. The star ranked eight on the Forbes list, with an estimated earning of $10 million.
The former Miss World is a global name now thanks to her American TV show ‘Quantico’, in which she plays the lead. The diva has widened her horizon by donning the producer’s hat and backing regional cinema in India. Priyanka also made her Hollywood debut this year with ‘Baywatch’ and will be seen next in two upcoming American movies set to release next year.
Talking about her Indian work commitments, she was last seen in ‘Jai Gangaajal’ in 2016 and is yet to announce her next projects.
Praful Patel (Kangana) is a 30-year-old divorcee living in Georgia with her middle-class parents. A housekeeper by profession, she gets drawn to a life of crime after her tryst with gambling at a Las Vegas casino. One bad turn leads to several more and before you know it, Praful is in a sordid mess.
REVIEW
The nice thing about Simran is that it ventures into an area where the Bollywood heroine offers no defence for being a badass. The protagonist, a woman with an undaunted spirit, lives and loves by her own set of rules. She refuses to have ‘sex without protection’ and is constantly up for adventure. She doesn’t think twice about slipping into a life of crime just to support her `character flaws’. So far so good.
Besides the premise, everything else about the film is improbable. The writing falters in parts and naturally the execution follows. The way Praful goes about robbing banks and gets away scot-free, even after leaving her finger prints all over and notes scribbled with lipstick seems unbelievable. The media brands her the ‘lipstick bandit’, and the Atlanta cops and the victimised bank employees seem like a bunch of jokers, who keep harping on the fearless bandit’s modus operandi, and yet, they fail to foil the half-a-dozen heists! It is almost like Hansal Mehta is attempting a comic story.
Nothing wrong there, but if is a tale that is being recounted in lighter vein, then it should have at least made the audience laugh some more.
The only one who is having a good time here is Kangana. Whether she’s docile or daring, the actress goes about her screen business with a flourish; getting her mannerisms pat. However, there are occasions when even she gets carried away with the constant focus. But then again, is she really to be blamed? The filmmaker doesn’t even have another noteworthy star on celluloid to share the limelight.
Simran’s parents and her fiancee, Sameer (Sohum) and other actors–foreign and desi–don’t quite add up.
Shraddha Kapoor, who is currently on an all-time career high, believes her journey from Haseena Parkar to Aapa was literally a switch.
Describing further her journey, the ‘Baaghi’ actress in an exclusive chat with ANI said, “When she decides to do certain things which she hasn’t done before. She always helped people in need and maybe sometimes which is a questionable thing, which is still a theory as it’s not proven yet that she had 88 cases against her where she probably used illegal means and ways to get certain things done be it in real estate or anything else and these are all speculations and nothing has been proven yet. So this journey is of somebody who has been shaped by certain events that happened in her life and it can affect you deeply on an emotional level and it was that for all of us involved in the film.”
In ‘Haseena Parkar’, Shraddha plays the role of dreaded ‘aapa’ (as Haseena Parkar was called), who became an underworld ‘Mafia Queen’ after she was tried and persecuted because she was Dawood Ibrahim’s sister.
Parkar, who had 88 cases registered against her, but was taken to court only once in her life, was rumoured to have single-handedly run her brother’s Rs.1000-crore underworld empire in the city. The film shows Haseena’s journey from a 17-year-old teenager to a 43-year-old.
For this, Shraddha underwent drastically different looks by using prosthetics, body suits and heavy make-up.
Siblings Shraddha and Siddhanth Kapoor will be seen playing reel life siblings Haseena Parkar and Dawood Ibrahim respectively in Apoorva Lakhia’s upcoming gangland drama ‘Haseena Parkar.’
It’s for the first time that we will see Shraddha playing a grey character on screen and the film also features Ankur Bhatia, who will essay Haseena’s husband Ibrahim Parkar in the film.
‘Haseena Parkar’ is all set to hit the theatres on September 22.
Actress Rakhi Sawant says she will expose Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh in a biopic in which she will star as the disgraced Dera Sacha Sauda sect chief’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan, who is believed to be now hiding in Nepal.
“Yes, I’m playing Honeypreet as I have known her for seven to eight years. I know everything about her. I believe she is in London right now.
My brother Rakesh Sawant and I are producing the film,” Rakhi told IANS.
“I’m in Delhi right now. We will be shooting here only. Our set will be exactly like his Sacha Sauda. I promise my audiences that ‘Main baba ki sab pol khol ke hi dum lungi’ (I will be relieved only after exposing him),” she added.
The release date of the biopic is yet to be finalised. Source: IANS
CAST: Bobby Deol, Sunny Deol, Shreyas Talpade, Sonali Kulkarni
DIRECTION: Shreyas Talpade
GENRE: Drama
DURATION: 2 hours 11 minutes
STORY
Set in a North Indian village, three distinct men – local goon Arjun (Shreyas), retired army officer Jagawar Chaudhry (Sunny) and school teacher Vinay (Bobby) are shocked to find themselves becoming the ‘poster boys’ of male sterilisation after their pictures randomly appear on a public service ad promoting vasectomy. They are soon subjected to public shaming.
The three embark on a mission to fight the system that wrongly pronounced them ‘sterile’ without their consent or knowledge. The film is a Hindi remake of Sameer Patil’s 2014 Marathi film Poshter Boyz.
REVIEW
The best part about Shreyas Talpade’s unsuspecting debut film as a director is the fact that he doesn’t try too hard to make his characters look or sound funny. They are just common people stuck in an uncommon situation and must deal with it. Their ways to prove their innocence are as ineffective but that makes you identify with their trauma. What’s also refreshing is Shreyas’ decision to not follow the ‘Bollywood comedy’ template by making his sensitive subject seem frivolous. Of course there are enough silly metaphors that refer to the male reproductive tract but those can be overlooked, given the significance and sensitivity he lends to the topic otherwise.
Credit also goes to the writers for localising the Hindi adaptation and comic punches well. But what pleasantly surprises you the most is the hilarious Deol brothers jugalbandi in a never-seen-before comic avatar. Shreyas extracts the best out of them and it is their comic timing and odd tributes to each other’s previous hit films that amuse you the most. Ashwini Kalsekar and Talpade’s sidekicks too deserve a special mention for cracking some quirky one liners.
This dramedy that revolves around men who unknowingly promote ‘Bina taka nasbandi operation’ is a light-hearted and clever take on the population problem that plagues our nation.
Contrary to the perception that Indians are making their presence felt in Hollywood, actor Tisca Chopra says “we have not yet begun in the West”.
The 43-year-old actor says only two Indian artistes – Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan Khan – have managed to be consistent in Hollywood, which is not enough to assure India’s place in the international cinema.
In an interview, Tisca says, “We are such a huge country and if one or two people are working in international projects, it doesn’t make a difference. They are cast here and there when an Asian face is needed.
“I feel only Priyanka Chopra and Irrfan have managed to work consistently in the West. Apart from them, I don’t think anyone else is doing anything significant. There is no star from India in Hollywood.”
The actor says India may be a huge market for filmmakers and actors in the West in terms of making money, but they are still not attracted to the content of the movies made here.
“We are far from making our place in global film market. Chinese, Korean, Iranian and Turkish films have set markets for themselves in the West. Source: PTI
Her over a decade-long journey in Bollywood has seen many a triumph, including her three National awards, and Kangana Ranaut said if her career ends now, she has nothing to lose as she has a huge success story for the rest of her life.
Kangana, who made her film debut in 2006 with ‘Gangster’, said during her journey in the film industry, she has been able to discover herself and conquer her fears. Kangana in an interview said, “I have acted upon my fears when I was struggling and trying to discover myself, who I am. But now I feel extremely satisfied with my discovery about myself, my inherent nature, about who I am as a woman and what my tendencies and capabilities are. I left home with none of the knowledge when I was 15 but at the age of 30 I know a lot about me.
“And there is a sense of accomplishment, I am a threetime National Award winner, I have shattered box office records. Even if my journey ends here right now right, I have nothing to lose. I still have a huge success story in every which ways for the rest of my life.”
Kangana, 31, fails to understand why she should be fearful about anything in life as she is not scared of anyone.
On if she fears not getting work, the actor said she has already achieved more than what she had set out for. “Why should I be fearful now? When I left home I wanted to be independent, now I am a megastar, I am a household name, I am a woman who knows herself which was the biggest challenge for me. If I am going to be fearful now, I am going to be fearful my entire life.”
Kangana is not worried about her career ending in Bollywood and said she has complete faith in her abilities and knows that she can try her hand in some other profession.
“What is it that this industry can give me? This industry can only take from me, it cannot give me anything. If my journey ends here, then too bad. If it continues, then good for them. I will do something else in some other field. I have a lot of faith in my abilities and I am not scared. I am not enamoured by this world and no one can pull my spirit down.” Source: PTI

India’s Identities Through Bollywood Cinema: Panel discussion at Lincoln Center
By Mabel Pais
India’s Identities through Bollywood Cinema, was a panel discussion at one of Lincoln Center’s Film Center, in early August. It explored the Hindi film industry’s (colloquially known as Bollywood) role in uniting Indians from different religious, ethnic, linguistic, economic, and class backgrounds. For over a century Bollywood has attempted to represent the country’s multitude of voices.
The panel of expert filmmakers, journalists, and academics explored how Bollywood cinema represents India’s various identities and how that storytelling can continue to evolve and include all Indians.
The moderator, Pulkit Datta, a freelance filmmaker, led the discussion. He has worked on a wide variety of productions internationally, in addition to writing, directing and producing his own passion projects. Datta is also the Media Producer for The India Center Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting dialogue and cultural exchange between the U.S and India.
Panelists were Tejaswini Ganti (Associate Professor, NYU), Sri Rao (screenwriter/producer), and Anisha Jhaveri (Film Critic, Indiewire).
Bollywood Boulevard: A Journey Through Hindi Cinema, was the mainstay to the dual events on Bollywood. Created by MELA Productions in association with Aaditaal Music Project, the song-and-dance presentation debuting in August, was part of Summer 2017 Lincoln Center’s Out of Doors Festival at Damrosch Park. It attracted over 4,000 patrons.

Bollywood Boulevard — a harmonious fusion of live music, dance, and film — led you from the birth of Hindi cinema to present day. You experienced the spirit, artistry, and history of India’s famous film industry from the classics of the black-and-white era and the timeless songs of Bollywood’s Golden Era to the foot-tapping blockbusters of today.
The event was inspired by the music of R.D. Burman, Lata Mangeshkar, and A.R. Rahman, the dance moves of superstars like Amitabh Bachchan and Priyanka Chopra, and romance as captured by Raj Kapoor and Yash Raj Chopra. It was an escape to grand palaces and mustard fields and dance clubs. Bollywood had captured the hearts of billions across the world over the generations for its vibrance, emotions, and heart-pounding beat that inspired the world’s largest entertainment industry.
While the performance cast hails from the Tri-state, the project itself was an international collaboration between creatives based in the U.S. and India. Featuring 18 dancers, 9 musicians, digital backdrops and short films, over 100 years of Indian artistry of Hindi cinema was alive during this exuberant stage show. This vibrant group of dancers and musicians took the audience on a journey through time as they captured the history of Bollywood, from black-and-white classics to colorful blockbusters, stringing the spirit and romance of India’s grand palaces, mountain vistas, and sweeping mustard fields to Damrosch Park.
Bollywood Boulevard demonstrated the magnetic power of Hindi cinema and Indian entertainment. Audience members engaged in the performance by singing along with the singers and dancing in the aisles.
Lincoln Center not only served as the presenter of the show, but also the lead commissioning partner, breathing life into an idea conceived by Heena Patel of MELA Productions and created in partnership with Rushi Vakil of Aaditaal Music Project.
“There are so many skilled Bollywood dancers and musicians in the five boroughs and New Jersey – Lincoln Center’s backyard – but with limited professional opportunities. By commissioning this show, it was an opportunity for us to invest in the next generation of creators from this community and showcase what they are capable of,” says Jill Sternheimer, Director of Public Programming at Lincoln Center.
“Every person involved is an ardent fan of Hindi cinema and their passion could be seen in each aspect of the show,” says India-based executive producer, creator, and music director Rushi Vakil.
“The premiere was more than what we could have imagined. It truly was an evening of pure love, joy, and beauty, and to see the show so thoroughly enjoyed made all the hard work of the last 8 months worth it,” says U.S.-based executive producer, creator, and dancer Heena Patel.

With the overwhelmingly positive response, Bollywood Boulevard will commence on a tour in early 2018 with a series of performances in February and March in New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and New York before heading across the country later in the year.
Bollywood Boulevard was commissioned by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, along with the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts, and The Jay and Linda Grunin Center, with additional support from the Patels. Additional support for the Lincoln Center presentation came from the India Center Foundation, Anil Bansal, and Raoul Bhavnani.

Emergency has been declared in India. Maharani Gitanjali(Ileana) from one of Rajasthan’s princely states has already lost her privy purse. Now, she fears that she will lose the last treasure chest of gold which has been forcibly taken away from her. So she asks her trusted lieutenant, Bhawani (Ajay) to step in and plan a heist.
REVIEW
On paper, Baadshaho may have had the merit of a Hollywood heist thriller like Ocean’s Eleven. This would seem like why Ajay Devgn agreed to be a part of this multi-starrer– that attempts to make outlaws look like Robin Hood. However good intention is defeated, when the execution offers zero novelty.
Anyway, mastermind, Bhawani, who is madly in love with Gitanjali promises her that he will win her pot of gold back. So he lovingly handpicks his crew—a lock picker, Tikla(Sanjay), a daredevil all-rounder, Daliya(Emraan), a `I-bite-bullets-forbreakfast’ kinda gal, Sanjana(Esha) who along with him, form the quartet that sets out to outsmart the faujis taking the armoured truck from Rajasthan to Delhi. It’s the haraami v/s army clash.
The highlight of the film is the chase that ensues soon after Seher(Vidyut), an army officer alights from the train. You so wish that the film had maintained the same breakneck speed all through, but alas!
For a heist-thriller to work, the moves of the rural bandits should have been more calculated and precise. Instead, here you have buffoonery. Everyone is mouthing signature lines trying to constantly reiterate how “bad-ass” they are. However, if you’re in the mood, indulge them– these are Bollywood’s paisa-pheko, dialogue-suno moments.
Ajay burns the screen with his searing intensity; Ileana passes muster as the Maharani with hidden facets; Emraan’s takeaway is that he gets to shimmy with Sunny Leone and Vidyut gets an `interesting’ introduction.
Sunita Radia’s lens captures the expanse of the desert deftly showing scale. Certain shots even stay frozen in your memory.
The song Mere Rashke Qamar rekindles the magic of the voices of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. If you’re an action junkie, this could be your weekend big-ticket ride.
While the world knows that cricketer Virat Kohli and actress Anushka Sharma are a couple, Twiteratti thought Parineeti Chopra and Hardik Pandya could be the next ‘Bollywood-cricket’ link after their recent Twitter chat.
It all started with Parineeti posting a picture of a bicycle few days back, but the captions spoke about the ‘most amazing partner’ and ‘love is in the air.’
Cricketer Hardik Pandya’s response to the picture set tongues wagging, talking about a ‘second Bollywood-cricket link’, first perhaps being Virat and Anushka.
The actress, however, later had to post a video, following the link-up rumours, that the ‘partner’ in question was instead her new smartphone.
At an event on Monday, the actress was asked about the link-up rumours again and this time, she set the record straight. She said, “Whether I am single or not that is not the discussion, but I am not dating Hardik Pandya. Even I heard about it.” Fans expecting a ‘second Bollywood-cricket’ link after Virat and Anushka would surely be a disappointed lot.
Global icon and Bollywood’s eternal It girl Madhuri Dixit is all set to venture into world wide music with – The Film Star.
Bollywood’s Dhak Dhak Girl Madhuri Dixit, is poised to release her first-ever English language EP, The Film Star. The EP will be launched with the debut single, ‘Tu Hai Mera’.
‘Tu Hai Mera’ is a special ode from Madhuri to her fans for all the love and support she’s received from them and continues to. It is a fusion of classical Indian folk music with western pop lyrics and beats, bringing together the East and the West, creating an iconic sound and vibe.
The idea to create a multilingual soundtrack from one of India’s most iconic performers and entertainers like Madhuri was conceived early last year at a meeting
in Beverly Hills, CA between Madhuri Dixit, her husband Shriram Nene and Sat Bisla, president & founder of A&R Worldwide. Bisla has been an early supporter for acts such as Sheppard, Coldplay, Muse, Keane, Dido, Adele, The Temper Trap, LMFAO, Jessie J, Katy Perry, Sia, Gavin James and hundreds of others prior to their global successes.
Talking about embarking on this musical journey Madhuri Dixit stated, “Music has been a part of my being from the very beginning. I was pretty clear that I wanted to kickstart this new chapter with a sense of celebration and gratitude for my fans who have offered their unrelenting support and all their love no matter what. So what better way to embark on this journey than by celebrating their appreciation!”

National Award winning actress Kangana Ranaut, who was earlier slammed by writer Apurva Asrani for taking the co-writer credit in ‘Simran’, said she didn’t take part in the direction of the film and would have proudly said it openly if she had done it.
Kangana was slammed by Asrani after the poster of Hansal Mehta’s ‘Simran’ released, showing Kangana’s name as co-writer. Apurva took to Facebook to raise objections to it and slammed the actress for taking undue credit.
Kangana said: “I have not done anything to do with direction in ‘Simran’. I have acted in it and written it. If I had directed the film, I would have proudly said it, but I have not done it.”
Kangana, who comes from a non-filmy background and hails from Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, also spoke about her background.
“Big cities are money-oriented, small towns are more concerned about what people — buaji, mausiji — will say? I come from an extreme environment, a conservative background. I felt stifled and just wanted to be free,” said the National Award winner.
Kangana, who has been appreciated for films like ‘Fashion’, ‘Queen’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’, said she tries to be away from award shows.
“There is a lot of manipulation in our award shows. Like they will tell you in advance that you will get this award, but will ask to perform for them. I try to stay away from all this.”
No, Deepika Padukone is not yet over with the shooting of her upcoming Sanjay Leela Bhansali film ‘Padmavati.’
Earlier in the day, it was reported that the Mastani of Bollywood has wrapped up the shooting for her upcoming movie.
A spokesperson of the movie has rubbished all such reports and clarified , “the reports are completely untrue. All the primary cast members of the movie still have a few scenes to shoot for.”
The spokesperson labeled all such rumours as speculative and baseless. For the uninitiated, it was reported that
“Deepika has wrapped filming for her part. The actress has reserved additional three to five days for any patchwork if required. Patch work will be shot only after Ranveer and Shahid have finished shooting their respective portions”.
‘Padmavati’ is an upcoming Indian period drama film jointly produced by Bhansali Productions and Viacom 18 Motion Pictures.
The film features Deepika as Rani Padmini, alongside Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Rana Rawal Ratan Singh.
Gaurav is a strait-laced techie who has picket-fence dreams of a wife, two kids and a dog; Rishi kills for a living in the seedy lanes of south-east Asian cities. How will their paths cross?
REVIEW
A Gentleman is a lazy title for this action-comedy, which is an improvement on the leave-your-brains-at-home genre that we have been (just as) lazily lapping up.
Directors Raj & DK introduce the two Sidharths with light humour and low-key intrigue. Gaurav is a good boy with slicked-back hair, tucked-in shirt, a safe mini-van and a big house. He’s passively wooing Kavya (Jacqueline).
Rishi enters the scene jumping off a railing and knocking a security guard unconscious; he’s a rough, risk-taking contract killer for Unit X headed by Colonel (Suniel Shetty), but he’s a goon with a golden heart who has had enough.
A Gentleman has a lot of moving parts; it cuts between the two Sidharths with some thrill and a dose of dry humour in the first half. Special points must be given out for not resorting to slapstick or physical comedy. The connection between the two — a smoothly executed sequence halfway through the movie — is the highlight.
The directors could have easily used the big suspense as the climax, however, they take a chance by making it their story’s interval.
But the downside of that risky reveal is that the intrigue is sucked out of the movie. The second half steadily declines into the usual action fare with stolen hard drives, close-quarter combats and heists in big glass buildings. However, the action sequences will keep you hooked.
The film’s lead pair will also keep your eyes on the screen. Sidharth plays the two parts with distinctive skills and puts his charm to good use. Jacqueline’s sincerity is palpable and she makes for a breezy addition here. Hussain Dalal provides comic relief and Darshan Kumar’s one-tone villainous act is satisfactory.
The film would have been a perfect entertainer had it held its cards closer to its chest. However, it still has plenty bang for your buck.
On her Bollywood debut, she played an overweight but educated woman who speaks up for her rights. In her second film, she plays a woman who stands up against open defecation. Actress Bhumi Pednekar said it’s a conscious decision to take up films where she shares equal space with male actors, as she feels heroines are no more ‘a mere tool of glamour’ in movies.
“Gone are the days where heroines just needed to be a puppet and a mere tool of glamour in films,” Bhumi said. Bhumi, 27, feels it’s high time women took centrestage in movies, and she is happy that the change has started setting in.
“Now is the time characters need to be made around girls and women because, honestly, they are the ones either suffering or celebrating at the moment because after a very long time we are finally seeing some sort of change in the society and in the film industry. I’m just glad that such movies are written,” said the actress, still savouring the success of ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’. Having started her career with ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, Bhumi said she is determined to “only do roles where I contribute to the film”. But does she feel that the roles in Hindi filmdom are limited for actresses?
“Things are changing, because since ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, all the films that were offered to me, at least most of them, were films where I had enough to do or films where I was equally important. I am not saying that I need to be the centre of every film.” Source: IANS

NEW DELHI (TIP): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued notices to actor Shah Rukh Khan and his wife, Gauri Khan, for alleged violations in Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) to the tune of Rs 73.6 crore and asked them to appear before it on August 23.
Actor Juhi Chawla is also being probed in this case.
SRK had appeared before the law enforcement agency in 2011 and 2015 to record his statement. The ED had sent a show-cause notice to Khan, Gauri, and Chawla in March.
What is the forex case?
? SRK formed a start-up Knight Riders Sports Pvt. Ltd (KRSPL) in 2008 to acquire IPL franchise rights of cricket team Kolkata Knight Riders. He owned 10,000 shares initially.
? The entire shareholding of KRSPL was with Red Chillies and Gauri Khan. After the success of IPL, about two crore additional shares were issued by KRSPL, of which 50 lakh shares were issued to a Mauritius based company owned by actor Juhi Chawla’s husband Jay Mehta, The Sea Island Investment Ltd (TSIIL), at Rs 10 per share, and 40 lakh shares were issued to Chawla. Khan owns 1.1 crore shares.
? Chawla later transferred her 40 lakh shares to TSIIL at Rs 10 per share as against a much higher market value. Thus, TSIIL owns 90 lakh shares at par value while the actual cost of share at the time of issue/sale was between Rs 86 and Rs 99 per share.
? The ED alleged that Khan undervalued his shares, which cost a forex loss of Rs 73.6 crore to the government.
WASHINGTON D.C. (TIP): Zee entertainment launched an annual program to identify and honor individuals and organizations who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the media & entertainment sector.
Chairman Ajit Pai, was conferred with the inaugural “Zee Entertainment National Leadership Awards” at a special event on Capitol Hill this past week. He is the first Indian American to lead the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US. Zee Entertainment is the biggest multicultural programmer in the United States with 35 networks in 14 languages.
Amit Goenka, CEO International Broadcast Business said, “The selection of our inaugural honoree was not a difficult choice as he demonstrated a great commitment to promoting and protecting consumer interests particularly in our case in the areas of healthy living, wellness, news and entertainment.”
The exclusive, by invite-only event saw more than 200 people in attendance from Washington DC’s power corridors which included nearly 25 congressmen and other very notable dignitaries. The 44-year old Republican attorney, Ajit Pai came across as very affable, conscious of his humble beginnings and deeply appreciative of his meteoric rise to the top of the federal agency. At the event, Pai acknowledged Dr. Subhash Chandra’s incredible achievement in creating a company like Zee, quite literally from nothing into the multimedia conglomerate that entertains about a billion people worldwide, despite the many roadblocks. Where people did not have the option to watch Bollywood movies at home in the US, Zee pioneered and changed the way people had access to content from India accessible to the Indian diaspora across the world 20 years ago.
In continuation with Zee’s ethos; “Vasudhaiya Kutumbakam” (The World is my Family), Zee speaks not only to the Indians here but also to millions of Americans via Z Living which is a Health & Wellness network. It is America’s fastest growing network and stands firm behind its mantra “Prevention is better than cure”. Zee also speaks to the millions of Latino audiences in the country through its unique Bollywood in Spanish channel; Zee Mundo.
An extension to this core belief in Health and Wellness, Zee has a one of its kind Natural Wellness Center, YO1 which stands for Yoga and Oneness. The idea behind this Wellness Center which is spread over 1300 acres in upstate NY is to focus on bringing our mind, body and soul as one.
Along with Entertainment, Zee strongly believes in giving back to the community with its initiatives like Sarthi, ZEE is Green, Ekal Vidyalaya and the DSC foundation which just donated 1 Billion dollars for social entrepreneurship causes. The Zee is Green initiative was conferred a special Excellence award at IAA Olive Crown Awards 2016 for its leadership in various environmental projects. Also, Ekal Vidyalaya popularly known as A People’s Movement has been educating 1.5 million students across 54,000 free schools in India.
Since Zee Entertainment has become synonymous with the Indian culture and Indians globally, it was a natural choice for the republican party to engage and partner with Zee Network to engage the Indian diaspora during the Trump Presidential campaign, Zee not only effectively planned and executed a 360 degree campaign, but it also coined the winning phrase; Ab ki Baar Trump Sarkar (This time, A Trump Government). The Republicans were smart enough to understand Indian Americans influence on the larger canvas, said Sameer Targe. Efforts included a Bollywood gala in NJ which had Donald Trump as the keynote speaker and Zee’s own SRGMP singers who were the real crowd pullers.
