  • IPL 8 Opening Ceremony- None could save this one from being a Flop Show

IPL 8 Opening Ceremony- None could save this one from being a Flop Show

The show began with the regular festivities of calling the cricketers on stage and getting them to sign the ceremonial bat and disclosing the trophy. Nothing seemed fine from the very beginning. If rain delayed the event Rohit Sharma and Saif Ali Khan were the first to kickstar this bloopers galore! And the Bollywood brigade’s acts on stage only took it further down.

First up was Shahid Kapoor, who did a dhamakedaar entry with a performance that was meant to be an ode to Mithun Chakraborty’s I am a disco dancer. His tribute to the disco king was great. However, he started fumbling with the dance steps and even before that almost crashed his bike on a podium set up on the mega stage. To be honest, this fumbling performance by Shahid was the best act of this night!

Then came in Anushka Sharma, who made a good enough entry, but her performances lacked the punch. And just for the record, even if your film PK was the highest grossing film ever you don’t dance on songs like that onstage, not unless you’ve Virat Kohli for company. These are all soft romantic numbers and for an event like IPL one expects a power-packed act, which will get the audience grooving or at least get them to tap their foot.

Up next was our desi rockstar Farhan Akhtar. He performed along with his band. Trust me, it would have been better had he just lip synced to the popular Rock On songs rather than actually trying to sing them. He did have some rocking songs in his kitty for the audience but sadly his cracking voice and even worse sound systems made us feel that he could just choke midway through this performance.

Finally it was Hrithik Roshan’s turn, people were expecting him to give a great performance. He did. But he performed to songs from Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya and Dhoom 2, movies that came over a decade ago. Hrithik did have some great dance numbers in Bang Bang and could have easily performed to them rather than sticking to songs which most of us have gotten used to seeing at every other do. Also, the background dancers were completely out of sync, which only went on to make this strictly average act extremely poor!

Above all Saif Ali Khan, who hosted the show was big flop. He fumbled like 20 times throughout the ceremony. It seemed that he either didn’t know what he was to do onstage or maybe the production team was murmuring too many details into the Nawab’s ear piece There were moments when the camera would stay on the actor’s face and people were expecting him to say something, but all he did was stand and stare at the roaring Kolkata crowd.

Over all a really bad show put together for the grandest cricketing event in India. A true FLOP SHOW!

  • The next fresh couple of Bollywood : Katrina Kaif, Sidharth Malhotra paired for Farhan Akhtar production

The next fresh couple of Bollywood : Katrina Kaif, Sidharth Malhotra paired for Farhan Akhtar production

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment have given way to a fresh romatically paired couple. Farhan’s assistant Nitya Mehra has been dallying with the thought of roping in both Sidharth Malhtora and Katrina Kaif for her debut film. Now, after much delay the project has been freezed and Sidharth and Katrina confirmed as lead actors.

Farhan Akhtar is quoted as saying, “We’ve cast Katrina and Siddharth in Nitya’s film. Both the actors have very unusual roles in the film. It’s important to try out new pairs and permutations, as these work to make audiences curious about a film.”

And we definitely agree that this one couple could make the silver screen steam.
The untitled project, however, won’t roll soon.

Problems seem to stay for Salman -may be booked for assault and robbery

Even as the 2002 hit-and-run case is at it’s peak, fresh trouble seems to be brewing for Bollywood actor Salman Khan. A complaint has been filed against the Dabangg star alleging that the actor abused and assaulted Ravindra Dwivedi when he was trying to board a flight on November 4, 2014.

In his complaint, Dwivedi has alleged that Salman Khan also asked his body guards to snatch the documents he had. Indian Express quoted Dwivedi as saying Salman’s bodyguards snatched all the important case papers relating to the death of senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde from his possession. Dwivedi is a member of Brashtachaar Nirmoolan Samiti.

A court in Andheri, on Tuesday, asked airport police to register an FIR under causing hurt (IPC section 323), insult with intention to provoke breach of peace (IPC section 504) and criminal intimidation (IPC section 506) and robbery (IPC section 392 ) against Salman Khan in the matter. “Concerned police officer of airport police Station is hereby directed to investigate the matter and file their report at the earliest,” observed Magistrate AD Lokhande in a recently passed order.

Dwivedi said in the complaint that the airport police refused to register a case when he tried to approach them.

Be present or face warrant: Court warns Saif Ali Khan in 2012 assault case

A local metropolitan magistrate court on Monday gave “a last chance” to actor Saif Ali Khan to appear before the court on the next date of hearing in a 2012 assault case.

The court had, on March 19, directed Khan to remain present on Monday as the first witness and complainant Iqbal Sharma was to depose against the actor.

However, Khan’s lawyer on Monday filed exemption application saying the actor could not make it as he was shooting abroad in an ad film.

Prosecutor Wajid Sheikh objected to the application and sought issuance of warrant against Saif.

Magistrate Shankar Dabhade gave him a last chance to appear after Khan’s lawyer said he will make sure the actor remained present on the next date.

The court said if the actor did not come next time, a warrant may be issued against him.

The next hearing would be on June 18.

Khan and his two friends — Bilal Amrohi and Shakkel Ladak — were arrested following a complaint filed by Iqbal Mir Sharma, an NRI businessman, after an alleged fight at a restaurant inside Taj Hotel here on February 22, 2012.

The three were later released on bail.

The court has framed charges against them under Sections 325 (assault) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code.

    They have pleaded innocence.

According to the police, when Sharma protested the raucous chatter of the actor and his friends, Saif allegedly threatened him and subsequently punched Sharma in the nose, thus fracturing it. The NRI businessman also accused Saif and his friends of hitting his father-in-law Raman Patel.

Saif, on the other hand, said that Sharma made provocative statements and used abusive language against the women accompanying him which led to a spat.

All is Well – Kapil Sharma recovers from back injury

Those close to Kapil Sharma say he’s been taking the slim-down way too seriously. “He’s a foodie. But since he signed KKPK, he’s stopped snacking completely, a habit he picked up after years of doing comedy shows. His meals are now strictly diet-controlled. His workout sessions would last at least two hours every morning and an hour in the evening,” says a source. One of these rigorous workout sessions apparently caused a back injury and the actor was recommended complete bed-rest for a few weeks.

Says Sharma, “I was on bed-rest for quite a while. The injury took place when I went to Rajasthan to shoot a song for my film. I overdid the work-out. Aisa nahin karna chahiye tha. Everything must be in moderation. I’m healing now.”

Kapil is undergoing physiotherapy with Dr Ali Irani, the doctor who watches the back of the cricket team. He says, “We have only two more songs to shoot for the film before we begin with the promotions.”

Well, we wish Kapil Sharma a speedy Recovery!

VIDYA BALAN TO HOST TALK SHOW

The actress will host a talk show which will be backed by a Hollywood studio and air on a US television network.

Rumours have been rife that Vidya Balan, who has just wrapped up Mohit Suri’s Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, is now gearing up for a biopic. She had two choices before her–to bring back to life Bengal’s diva Suchitra Sen who passed away in January, 2014, or step into the shoes of Pakistan’s 11th Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in 2007.

But Vidya told Mirror: “No. I’m not doing either of the biopics.” In fact, she may not do any more films this year at all. Instead, she’ll focus on a talk show along the lines of The Oprah Winfrey Show.

“It’s a show unlike any on Indian television. It will be backed by a Hollywood studio and will air on a US television network. It demands six months of consecutive filming dates which is why she doesn’t want to sign any new films,” says a source close to the development. While, Vidya remained tight-lipped about the offer, she did admit that she is not keen to work in Indian television and relive her Hum Paanch days. “The next season of Nach Baliye was offered to me but I declined as I don’t see myself doing a reality show. But I will never rule out d television,” she says.

  • MOVIE REVIEW BARKHAA

    MOVIE REVIEW BARKHAA

STORY: Rich boy meets poor girl whose source of income isn’t respectable according to his family. Can they get together and live happily ever after, much against the societal pressure?

REVIEW: Jatin (Taaha Shah), a lawyer’s son, falls in love with Barkhaa (Loren) the moment he sees her in Himachal. He tries his best to pursue her but she is reluctant since she is scarred emotionally. Barkhaa, who works in a bar for a living, dissuades Jatin from proposing marriage to her but he insists. He takes her to his parents but they disapprove of the relationship objecting to her profession. Can the two get together against his family’s wishes and what is Barkhaa’s mysterious past all about? The film is a decent watch for those, who for some weird reason may crave for the 70’s melodrama. It boasts of an archaic story and a predictable plot, with the actors spouting done to death dialogues throughout. If you want to revisit that phase of Bollywood, where women were perpetually unhappy and had a ‘majboori’ for being that way, you can watch this one. Else, avoid. Loren looks good but is too wooden. Also, barring cinematography and music, other aspects of the film are way too mediocre and cliched for your liking. Sadly it’s 2015 and this formulaic drama has nothing new to offer.

    PLOT SUMMARY

The film starts with Jatin (Taaha Shah) and his parents looking after his elder brother Akash (Priyanshu Chatterjee) who is in the ICU. Jatin gets reminded that he has to be the chief guest at a book launch of ‘AKS’. In spite of being worried sick for his brother, Jatin honours his commitment and inaugurates the book. As soon as he starts reading a few excerpts, it rings a bell and he rushes to find who the publisher is. However, the publisher says he is unaware of the author’s whereabouts. The book launch takes you through a series of flashbacks. You are introduced to Barkhaa
(Sara Loren), with whom Jatin falls in love with, the moment he sees her in Himachal. Barkhaa, however is a bar girl with a mysterious past. Jatin pursues her but she is hesitant to get married to him. She eventually agrees to meet his parents. Jatin’s father (Puneet Issar) strongly opposes the marriage. Elder brother Akash is shocked by Jatin’s choice (he knows Barkhaa is a single mother since it was he to deserted her, after she got pregnant with his child). Barkhaa too leaves the house after seeing Akash. On getting to know the truth, Jatin accepts Barkhaa and the two get married.

September. “Dont talk about Woman’s Empowerment when YOU don’t know how to RESPECT Women!”

She went on to write a post accusing the paper of using “regressive tactics” to garner readership “at a time when we are striving for women’s equality and empowerment” .

“In a time where women should be applauded for making headway in a male-dominated society, we blur the lines between REEL and REAL life and dilute all our efforts by making a one-year old back sliding piece of news a headline,” she wrote on Facebook.

The paper responded to her critique, telling her she should take the “compliment” before branding her a “hypocrite” for wearing revealing clothes and “flaunting” her body off screen.

Now it appears she’s had the final word, by creating an empowering video with filmmaker Homi Adajania and Vogue India, in which she urges women to take back control over their minds, their bodies, who they love and who they have sex with.

    CHITRANGDA SINGH TO TURN PRODUCER

Chitrangda Singh has reportedly decided to foray into film production.

The actress, who had revealed her plans of producing a sports flick some months ago, declined to divulge details.

All she is wiling to say for now is, “I’m working on something and I’m excited about that. I’m putting things together… the kind of thing I want to work on.”

MODELLING IS NOT SOMETHING I WOULD EARN MY LIVING FROM

Chitrangda Singh, who is not seen on the big screen for a long time now, made a very dramatic appearance recently at the Lakme Fashion Week when she was seen as a show-stopper at the ace fashion designer, Tarun Tahiliani’s show.

Describing the show as dramatic with great energy, Chitrangda said, “That instant connect with the audience is so amazing. That is the reason why you are called a show-stopper because you come right at the end, and the whole build up is so exciting.” So what does she enjoy more, acting or walking the ramp? Prompt comes the reply, “Of course, I love acting more, walking the ramp and modelling is not something I would earn my living from.” While Chitrangda has walked the ramp and been a show-stopper innumerable times in the past, walking the runway does make her nervous. “I have done many shows, but there is always this nervousness. We wear such long dresses and you are always thinking what if you trip on the twirl,” laughs the gorgeous actress.

When asked how does she react when co-actors aren’t comfortable working with her, she says, “I know there are plenty of male actors who are scared of being on the same screen as me because they are more ‘Disney’ than me. I know there are production houses who are sitting back and watching my next move to test my seriousness for my work. People might be skeptical There are wives who don’t want their husbands to be working with me. Women, I don’t want your husband. I have my own.”

  • Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend MOVIE REVIEW

    Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend MOVIE REVIEW

STORY: Dhruv (Divyendu Sharma), an aspiring IAS officer falls in love with Sakshi (Prachi Mishra), a car loan executive working for a private company. In order to impress her, he and his roommate Happy
(Pradhuman Singh) buy a car on loan. However, the car gets stolen, making Dhruv suspect a foul play.

REVIEW: Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend starts as a romcom, turns into a con caper, followed by a sting operation and finally ends as a love story. The plot of a woman luring a man to serve her own selfish interests, seems fun in the beginning, but it goes haywire to the extent that you’re least bothered about what happens to the characters or their plan to trap a dubious businessman Minocha (Jackie Shroff doing a terrible Punjabi accent), who rules the stolen cars business in Delhi. The story refuses to proceed and keeps meandering, much to your annoyance. Bored to death, you give up eventually and yearn for the film to end instead. In a bizarre turn of events, you have Dhruv falling in love with Nimmy (Ira Dubey), a TV journalist. This track makes no sense at all, but so does the rest of the film.

Barring Divyendu Sharma and Pradhuman Singh’s camaraderie, nothing really works for the film. Slowmo love songs, Delhi dhabas and slangs have been done to death. To sum it up, the title has no relevance to the story. You’d rather stick to watching the Cricket World Cup instead, for this one is quite zaalim on the senses.

More than2,200 delegates from dozen countries came for this 3-day unique event to witness the transformation “Ekal” had brought to the overall development of rural masses in India. The goal, in the words of convener Shri Yogendra Tulsyan, was not only to bring in active supporters and partner-organizations of “Ekal” under one roof, but also to celebrate and, retrospectively, to take stock of Ekal’s success. It was also an occasion to pay tribute to Ekal’s late founder Shri Madanlalji Agarwala who established first ‘Ekal Vidyalaya’ in November 1988 in Laidvari tribal village near Dhanbad. As a dedicated ‘Pracharak’ of “Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh” (RSS), when he asked the poor farmers how he can be of help to them, they requested him to make at least their children literate, so that they can avoid economic and social subjugation. The seedling that the visionary Madanlalji sowed, quarter century back has now prospered into the largest Literacy, Healthcare and rural development movement in India with supporting chapters in more than a dozen countries. Ekal has now 55,000 schools spread throughout India, including in Jammu-Kashmir and Nepal. Through ‘Ekal,’ almost 1.5 Million children are receiving basic education and healthcare training, each year.

The prominent dignitaries who presided over this mega convention were Ekal Chief Shri Shyamji Gupta, Chief Minister Shri Raghuvar Das, VHP Chief Shri Ashokji Singhal, Sadhvi Ritambaraji, and ZEE-TV Chairman Shri Subhashchandraji. At the mammoth public meeting, attended by over 50,000 people, Shri Ashokji, in his address emphasized that India needs to restore its lost identity and true character on the basis of self-respect and self-reliance. He further added that Ekal was started with this objective by late Shri Madanlalji. Shri Shyamji Gupta, who paid an eloquent tribute to Shri Madanlalji Agarwala for his pioneering efforts to spread literacy, gave an overview of the ecliptic progress Ekal had made to uplift forgotten masses in the villages. Di Di Ma Sadhvi Ritambaraji touched on the difficulties faced by the Volunteers and compared them with ever-loyal ‘Hanuman Sena’. The Chief Guest for this occasion was RSS Chief, Shri Mohanji Bhagwat. In his address to the delegates, Shri Mohanji challenged them to explore possibilities where, ‘Ekal’ as a rural support-vehicle, could be taken further with changing times and in favorable political climate. There were several presentations by various Ekal alumni groups whose main theme was the empowerment that Ekal had brought to their lives. According to them, this was facilitated, not only by education, and infrastructure of self-reliance that Ekal had provided, but also, by its awareness campaign for one’s ‘right to information’ in the face of bureaucratic hurdle. Some of these people are now even playing leadership roles at the district level. ‘Pinki Karmakar’ who carried the Olympic torch at London Olympiad and became a national inspiration for the youths few years back, was an Ekal alumnus. There were several testimonials by rural-folks which portrait their success at tackling social ills like bonded labor, mass drunkenness, spread of epidemics, migration of youths to urban areas, and blatant corruption in their community.

“Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of USA”, has played a very significant role in the expansion, progress and success of ‘Ekal Abhiyan’ (Ekal-India) for more than two decades. ‘Ekal’ as it is known today had started out as ‘One-Teacher School Project’ in India as well as in USA. For last few years, Ekal-USA has been raising $4 to 5 Million U.S. Dollars through its fund-raising concerts, all over USA. This year’s concerts artists are Bollywood Melody Makers “Rana Chaterjee and Sangeeta Melekar” and they will be performing at more than 50 places. Their sold-out concerts are already under way since February. For more information on Ekal concert in your vicinity and to get involved please kindly visit www.ekal.org.

Your generous support for this worthy cause shall be appreciated.

    MOVIE REVIEW – NH10

REVIEW: So, NH10 is a film you both hate and love. Meera (Anushka) and Arjun (Neil) are a happy yuppie couple living in a Gurgaon of multinationals, malls and molesters. The duo gets a gun after Meera narrowly escapes an attack one night. Deciding to take a road-trip, they head down NH10 – and see an eloping couple caught and savagely beaten at a roadside dhaba by a gang.

When Arjun intervenes, rustic Satbir (Darshan) slaps him, snarling the girl’s his sister. Despite Meera’s pleading, Arjun grabs their gun and follows the gang, only to witness the couple’s brutal ‘honour’ killing. What happens when Meera and he are discovered by the gang? And when, by mistake, the yuppies kill a village lad?

It’s easy to hate NH10 while watching it because it’s one of the most terrifying Hindi films ever – while simultaneously, you love its brilliance. The film’s story, apparently inspired by Eden Lake, is truly taut, no moment letting you relax, no layer – like Meera’s vulnerability against both Arjun’s ego and the vicious gang – comforting. Every performance delivers a punch, Anushka excelling as Meera on whose glossy life dark horror descends, her acting as remarkable as her commitment to produce this film which has no band, baaja, baraat – only brutality.

There are constant twists (cops backing caste laws over India’s law) and spots which you imagine offer some rest, like Meera meeting a lady sarpanch Ammaji (Deepti Naval), packing away a girl’s clothes, only bring new shocks. Sound itself – heart throbbing, water dripping, the wail of a song dying on an eerie wind somewhere – becomes a fearsome character here. The stark cinematography delves parched ravines and pale mustard fields, one shot – a highway sheeted in blue moonlight, covered with stars, dotted by thorns -magical beauty.

Its cutting-edge finesse ensures NH10 puts your nerves through a shredder. Small plot quibbles aside -would a young yuppie really endanger himself and his wife to chase a gang of murderous hoods he met five minutes ago? – NH10 is not a movie for the faint-hearted or those wanting a fun filmi frolic. This is a dark tale from beyond ‘the aakhri mall, where democracy ends’, where jeeps become beasts and where there are no dividers between hunters, hunted and haunted.

NH10 is a relentless thriller you wish you could see with your eyes closed – because truly, as its song goes, chill gaye naina.
