Spiritual leader Sant Rajinder Singh honored with a citation from New York City Mayor

NEW YORK (TIP): On Monday, May 22, 2023, Sant Rajinder Singh spiritual head of Science of Spirituality, received a Special Citation from the city of New York by its Mayor Eric Adams, for his commitment to fostering peace and interfaith harmony while inspiring diverse people worldwide on their paths to spiritual growth.
Meeting at the historic New York City Hall, Sant Rajinder Singh and Mayor Adams were joined by the Spiritual Master’s wife, Mata Rita Ji, son Dr. Kunwarjit Singh Duggal, delegates, and several of the Mayor’s senior advisors, including Dilip Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner for International Affairs, New York City.

The Mayor welcomed Sant Rajinder Singh to New York City, home to the headquarters of the United Nations and the cultural and financial center of the United States.
Speaking at length about the intersection between meditation and mental health, Sant Rajinder Singh explored how meditation can play a significant role in reducing stress and bringing peace, balance, and calmness to our lives. Not only can meditation help first responders like the police, firefighters, and medical practitioners deal with stress, but it can give students important tools to improving their concentration and leading calmer, more balanced lives. Meditation can also impact the lives of veterans, who have served their country with honor, helping them deal with the many challenges they face daily.

The Mayor then recommended that New York City officials and Science of Spirituality explore potential projects related to meditation that might help citizens of New York City.
Sant Rajinder Singh also explained that each of us has a reservoir of inner spiritual power within us that we can tap into through meditation. The experience we gain not only transforms our lives, but then spreads to our families, communities, and the world. Eric Adams then presented Sant Rajinder Singh Ji with a Citation from the Office of the Mayor of the City of New York welcoming him to the city in recognition of his work toward fostering inner and outer peace through meditation.
“As New York’s first Mayor to champion a plant-based diet, I am pleased to count Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj in this mission, and I applaud his commitment to foster peace and interfaith harmony while inspiring diverse people on the paths to spiritual growth.”

Sant Rajinder Singh, in turn, presented the Mayor with signed and inscribed copies of his best-selling books—Detox the Mind, which contains tips, meditations, and exercises to reduce daily stress and find joy within, and Meditation as Medication for the Soul, with research by experts and medical practitioners on how meditation improves physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing.

Science of Spirituality 36th Eye Camp Brings the Gift of Sight

NEW YORK (TIP): Cataract continues to be a leading cause of bilateral blindness in India. While cataracts can be easily diagnosed and surgically removed to regain full sight, many individuals in underserved parts of the country have limited access to eye care. On February 4th, Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission (SKRM) and Science of Spirituality hosted the 36th Free Eye Checkup and Cataract Surgery Camp in Delhi, bringing the gift of sight to several hundreds. This humanitarian effort was made possible by the volunteer efforts of physicians from the United States working with doctors from ICARE Eye Hospital, Noida, a leading eye hospital in India with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities. The camp ran from February 4th to February 11th and helped many patients from Delhi NCR and northern parts of India.
Providing a Full Continuum of Care
Following a thorough screening at the Kirpal Bagh grounds under the supervision of skilled technicians, eligible patients were transported to ICARE Eye Hospital and provided exhaustive care that included complimentary surgery with high-quality lenses donated by hospitals in the US. Besides the medical care, lodging, food, eye drops, reading glasses and other essential services were provided to the patients.
Several patients expressed how regaining their sight would bring a sense of normalcy and independence to their lives enabling them to perform day-to-day tasks with ease; many offered heartfelt gratitude for the noble service.
“This is not just a lens which has been surgically implanted. It is a blessing and a life-altering moment,” a patient at the 36th Eye Camp said.

Transforming the World through Selfless Service
The doctors that participate in this eye camp each year go through great lengths to ensure each of their patients receives the best care possible. Their work is inspired by one of the key tenets of spirituality – selfless service to humanity – taught by Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, world-renowned Spiritual Master and head of Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission/Science of Spirituality. Selfless service is to give of ourselves selflessly, to alleviate the burdens of another. “It takes time to transform the world, but it takes one person to begin that transformation which eventually transforms families and neighbourhoods and this is how we can work together to benefit our fellow human beings,” shared one of the volunteer physicians.
The SKRM eye camp is held as part of the International Human Unity Conference, the annual conference presided over by Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj. The conference brings together leaders and delegates from across the globe on a common platform to celebrate the spirit of human unity and oneness.

Science of Spirituality/SKRM Feeds Tens of Thousands During India’s Nationwide Lockdown

NEW YORK / NEW DELHI (TIP): As the world comes to grips with a global pandemic of epic proportions, countries have taken strong measures to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus. On March 24, a nationwide lockdown was instituted in India in an effort to protect its 1.3 billion-strong population by breaking the cycle of infection and containing the outbreak. However, as declared by Dr Tedrous Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), “these steps can have unintended consequences for the poorest and most vulnerable within a population.” In India, millions of migrant workers dependent on daily wages have been impacted. Government programs are being implemented to ensure food and essentials reach the most vulnerable at this time.

Complementing the national efforts, under the leadership and guidance of Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, spiritual head of US based  Science of Spirituality (SOS)/Sawan Kirpal Ruhani Mission (SKRM), SOS volunteers across the country have mobilized to set up food kitchens and food drives, bringing warm meals and basic essentials to individuals in need. From Delhi to Jalandhar, Amritsar to Hyderabad, Mumbai to Dehradun, SOS volunteers, while practicing social distancing, have united to prepare and package meals and supplies at SOS Centers around the country. These packages are then distributed in collaboration with the local government authorities on a daily basis as a means of alleviating hunger within the communities. With over 3000 satellite centers around the world, and over 2000 centers in India alone, the organization’s large footprint affords it the expansive reach necessary to feed tens of thousands during these challenging times.

Service to humanity or seva, as it is known in Hindi, is a core tenet of Science of Spirituality, a worldwide spiritual organization dedicated to transforming lives through meditation. In the words of Sant Rajinder Singh Ji Maharaj, service is “the sweetest fruit on the tree of love.” It is an acknowledgement of the fundamental unity underlying our existence, and when carried out with kindness, compassion, and in a spirit of selflessness, such service has the power to change the world, one heart at a time.

This spirit of selflessness, kindness, and generosity has been growing around the world as individuals and communities embrace their common humanity and find creative ways to help each other at this time. So much so that when the definitive history of the coronavirus pandemic is written, it will not only relate a story of loss and despair, but also one of human unity, where we came together as a global community to meet one of the greatest challenges of our time.
