KELLY BROOK GOING TOPLESS INTO DEEP SPACE

Kelly Brook is reportedly looking stunning in her new Lynx campaign in which she is seen rubbing ice cubes on her bikini clad body before going topless. The 33-year old English model is heading up the campaign which is set to send one lucky Lynx space academy lover into space via a global competition, the Daily Express reported. ‘The Italian Job’ starlet, who recently broke up with love-rat Danny Cipriani, is seen flaunting her famous curves in the video as she lies in bed, wearing a sultry camisole inside a space ship, before she heads over to the window and strips down to a gold bikini, then moves to another side of the space ship while untying her bikini top and leaving it to float beside her, before slipping into a tight silver playsuit.

The model-turned-actress eventually runs off with a mystery astronaut, representing the unknown winner of the competition. Brook uploaded a number of pictures during her ad campaign filming to her social networking accounts. The ‘School for Seduction’ actress has been in Istanbul to filming scenes for Lynx Apollo, the latest in a string of promotional campaigns she’s fronted for the brand since signing a lucrative 1 million pound deal in 2007.

GENELIA DESPERATE TO GET FILMS POST MARRIAGE

Marriage sounds the death knell for an actresses’ career. And Genelia D’Souza Deshmukh is currently facing this harsh reality. Post getting hitched to Riteish Deshmukh, film offers have dried up for the chirpy actor in Tollywood. A lil’ birdie tells us that the actress recently hosted a cocktail party in the city for all her friends and acquaintances in Tollywood.

This move was a desperate bid from the actor to get back to doing films in Tollywood. But unfortunately, no one in the Telugu film industry showed the remotest interest in casting Genny in their films. Sad, but true.

  • MOVIE REVIEW – Chennai Express

    MOVIE REVIEW – Chennai Express

Cast: Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Sathyaraj
    Direction: Rohit Shetty
    Genre: Action
    Duration: 2 hours 23 minutes

    STORY:
A 40-year-old Punjabi man is on a mission to immerse his grandfather’s ashes down South. Enroute he meets a young Tamilian girl who has eloped. Their lives entwine and his journey takes an altogether different route. REVIEW: In an ode to his own cinema-read Golmaal series, Bol Bachchan, Rohit Shetty ishstyle, the director, who has grossers in Bollywood’s 100-crore club, ups the scale for his Eid offering. Chennai Express (CE) is a magnificently mounted film.

Never having been strong in the story department, CE too has a guillible plot line. Rahul ( Shah Rukh Khan) is asked by his dadi (Kamini Kaushal) to drop his granddad’s ashes in Rameswaram, the southern-most tip of India. He boards the Chennai Express to hoodwink granny but has secretly planned a getaway with his guy friends to Goa. Alas, in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge fashion, a damsel in distress, Meena ( Deepika Padukone) asks for his outstretched hand as he stands on the footboard.

And his Samaritan act changes his destiny. He discovers she’s the daughter of a Don from a South-side village and her accompanying cousins (hulks in pony tails) want her to return home. Her father wants Meena to marry another hulk (Niketan Dheer) from a nearby village, so he can then rule two villages. Meena resists and insists to her father (Sathyaraj) that it is Rahul who has her fancy.

The father relents but the other hulks resist. From here on, Rahul constantly tries to outsmart the South Indian mob. And as expected in Indian mainstream cinema, he breaks into song-and-dance, gets drunk, blows up jeeps and does a Jim Carryish over-thetop act to get guffaws from a captive audience. For what is primarily a Hindi film, there’s too much spoken Tamil.

There are cleverly written lines that ask you not to underestimate the south because it even plays a crucial role in the coalition government, but for the rest of India, a lot of the dialogue is lost in translation. Subtitles would be in order. After Cocktail and Yeh Jaawani Hai Deeewani, Deepika is once again in superlative form. Shah Rukh’s attempts at comedy go from convincing to convoluted. But, for the most part, he lights up the screen with his effervescence.

ANISTON THROWS BIRTHDAY BASH FOR JUSTIN THEROUX

The insider said that it was a relaxed afternoon and the guests were all seated in the cabana area, while having drinks and listening to Kanye West and ‘The Kinks’ tracks.

The catering team at the party prepared an outdoor barbecue buffet, when the pair began to greet the rest of their guests at around 7pm and made a point to hug everyone that arrived. Hollywood celebs like Kirsten Bell, Dax Shepard, Jason Bateman, Tobey Maguire and many more attended the birthday bash.

  • OLIVIA WILDE WARNS WOMEN AGAINST COSMETIC SURGERY

OLIVIA WILDE WARNS WOMEN AGAINST COSMETIC SURGERY

Actress Olivia Wilde feels “saddened and grossed out” by young women who undergo cosmetic surgery to improve their looks. The 29-year-old has urged girls to eat a healthy diet and indulge in exercise, instead of resorting to drastic measures to change their appearance. “Don’t cut your face. I am so saddened and grossed out by young women who look like creepy, old aliens because of their new Barbie noses and lips.

Is that a smile or a grimace? Did you melt hot wax on your face, or is that your skin?,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted Wilde as saying. “A better approach, take care of yourself now that you’re old enough to know how. Drink water, sleep eight hours, and don’t go within 400 feet of a tanning booth or I’ll slap you hard,” she added. The actress also insists that she is looking forward to turning 30 in March 2014. “I’m hitting a major milestone 30, or as I like to call it, the ‘cut the bulls**t and go be awesome’ stage,” said Wilde.

The “Tron: Legacy” star also advices other women, who are turning 30. “Now you get to live with that knowledge (you gained in your 20s) under your belt. Also, make it a nice belt. You’re 30. Stop dressing like a hobo. And don’t be bogged down by your past. “Consider your baggage (bad boyfriends, job setbacks, body issues) lost by the airline of life, leaving you emptyhanded

  • MOVIE REVIEW – The Conjuring

    MOVIE REVIEW – The Conjuring

Cast: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lili Taylor
    Direction: James Wan
    Genre: Horror
    Duration: 1 hour 53 minutes

STORY: Carolyn (Lily Taylor) and Roger Perron (Ron Livingston) with their five daughters move into a secluded Rhode Island farmhouse. Strange things start happening in and around the house at night. Turns out, it’s not just fear that’s playing hide-and-seek with their minds.

    REVIEW:
Alarmed with the rise in horrific events taking place, Carolyn requests noted Paranormal investigators Ed ( Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farminga) to look into the case. What surfaces will make you think twice before being intrigued by old and abandoned mysterious houses, antiques and musical toys. Most horror films claim to be ‘based on real life incidents’. While they rarely live up to the hype around them, The Conjuring is an exception.

The atmosphere build-up begins even before the film does, as a disclaimer is flashed before the opening credits, warning you that you might seek psychological help after watching the movie. The strategy works, as the film can scare the living daylights out of you. While we didn’t feel the need to undergo any counselling, unsettling it certainly was.

With haunted houses, creepy cellars, possessed dolls, cold and lonely nights, paranormal occurrences and exorcism, concept-wise, The Conjuring is not earthshatteringly ‘different’. While the setting and story are familiar, it’s the no-nonsense execution that makes the difference. Much to our satisfaction, filmmaker James Wan’s (Saw, Insidious) direction defies the done-to-death horror movie cliches that have so far caused most people to disregard the genre.

There are no cheap thrills, no over-the-top sound effects, no annoying camera angles (found footage style), overindulgence in gore or visual grossness and no aping horror’s cult classic The Exorcist. Wan does not succumb to sensationalising the story either. It’s the subtle and steady build-up of suspense and psychological tension, coupled with sudden spinechilling scares and dramatic silences that make you go numb with fear.

Above all, other than demons, evil spirits, ghosts and darkness, the film has a soul, where you feel for the characters. Not many horror films manage to achieve this. Performances are understated, yet effective. Vera Farminga plays psychic Lorraine Warren with utmost conviction. Lily Taylor’s performance as the vulnerable mother is noteworthy. James Wan pulls all the right strings to create an atmosphere so tense and unnerving that if evil spirits feed on your fear, so does the film.

Federation Of Indian Associations, Chicago Organizes INDIA’S 67TH INDEPENDENCE DAY Gala Banquet And Parade

  • Federation Of Indian Associations NY/NJ/CT (FIA) Is Not A Representative Organization Of Indian Americans

Federation Of Indian Associations NY/NJ/CT (FIA) Is Not A Representative Organization Of Indian Americans

“The organization that claims to organize the India Day Parade is far from being Indian in character. Look at the people in FIA Trust and Executive. See the list of Trustees and Executive Members on FIA website www.fianynjct.org. You will find they all are, with the exception of one or two, from one community and one state of India. Is this organization truly representative of Indians and India?” asks the author.

Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) came into being in 1977 after changing the name of umbrella organization “Joint Committee of Indian Organizations” founded in 1975, under the leadership of Rajan Ghosh. The main goal of this organization was to celebrate India’s Independence and Republic days in Tristate area by bringing under one roof Indian students organizations: India Club of New York University, India Club of Columbia University and Association of Indians in America, The Bharathi Society of America and the Tagore Society of America.

A laudable step to celebrate and project united India. The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO) Founder, Thomas Abraham, a Christian from Kerala, was elected First President of FIA in 1977 and continued till 1981 when in March that year Sureshwar Prasad Singh took over and initiated the first India Day Parade in 1982 in New York . He was succeeded by H. C. Chandershekar for the 1982-83 term. Sudha Acharya took over for the term 1983-84 and introduced Bollywood to the Parade.

It was the first time that a Bollywood actor- Sunil Dutt- was invited as the Grand Marshal of the Parade and from then on it became a tradition to have a Bollywood actor as Parade’s Grand Marshal. Sudha Acharya was also instrumental in bringing 17 more organizations under FIA. With the Presidency of Ram Gadhvi in 1985, the hold on FIA of people from one religion and one region started getting stronger.

With the arrival on scene of the present Chairman, Ramesh Patel in mid 80’s, this group consolidated its position further and came to have absolute control of FIA. By now the organization which aimed at bringing together Indian American students associations and various regional organizations and communities to celebrate India’s Independence and Republic days had lost its focus. The degeneration of FIA had set in Also, the objective of showcasing Indian culture has been lost sight of.

Vulgar displays became the favorite projections of “the Indian culture”. (See picture of cheerleaders in tricolor bikinis on top). Display of Indian history and depiction of Indian freedom movement have clearly not been the themes with the coterie of 20 to 30 people from one community and from one state of India. The rot further set in with the entertainment industry people, keen on promoting their personal business, having Bollywood actors as Grand Marshals.

Two of the trustees -Yashpal Soi and Kanu Chauhan- have been pillars of entertainment industry for the last many decades and they have been at the helm of arranging Bollywood actors. What a lowly way to achieve a level of self aggrandizement! The organization that claims to organize the India Day Parade is far from being Indian in character. Look at the people in FIA Trust and Executive. See the list of Trustees and Executive Members on FIA website www.fianynjct.org. You will find they all are, with the exception of one or two, from one community and one state of India.

Is this organization truly representative of Indians and India? A Not-for -Profit organization is expected to value democracy and transparency. In the case of FIA, both democratic temper and values, and transparency are absent. A coterie of 20 to 30 persons from one community and one region of India, under the tutelage of Ramesh Patel, the Chairman of FIA, who has been donning various colors at different times, has been clutching , what should be the people’s organization, in their jaws and fangs.

This in the cradle of democracy, the United States of America! This in the land of the people who prize democracy and liberty the most! This in the land of the Lady of Liberty! This in the land of Martin Luther King, Jr. who drew inspiration from Father of the Indian Nation, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, whom we revere as Bapu and as Mahatma Gandhi! All this is being done by the sons of the land of Gandhi! What a shame! Money talks.

Money walks. Who knows it better than Ramesh Patel? It is with the patronage of government of India, donations from people and sponsorships manly from Indian banks, organizations and businesses that the FIA India Day parade walks and talks. But the organizers have scant respect for government of India representatives here.

Not long ago, it was widely reported in the media how Ambassador Hardeep S. Puri, the then Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations and the then Consul General of India in New York, Ambassador Prabhu Dayal were humiliated and not allowed to join the Grand Marshall in the front row during the parade. The Indian Panorama had, in particular, taken umbrage and raised the issue of humiliation of government of India at India Day Parade, and condemned the FIA.

As for transparency in functioning and financial wheeling dealing of FIA, it is a matter that needs to be looked in to by IRS and concerned US administration agencies. There are many a skeleton in the FIA cupboard which will tumble out once its doors are opened. It is for the donors, sponsors and government of India institutions who dole out large sums for the glory of India to ask the organizers how the money was being spent. We, on our own, do not mind coming up with the financial misadventures of FIA.

FIA has its own share and burden of criminals, some proven, some under cloud. We will not name any who has not been proved guilty. But we will let our readers know who have already been through criminal proceedings. Without going in to smaller matters which can be ignored, we will name at least two cases. One of Nirav Mehta, who was President of FIA in the year 2010 and was a Trustee until a few months ago. He was a proclaimed offender in India against whom there was a red corner notice.

He knows it. Ramesh Patel knew about it. Government of India outpost in New York knows about it. Another, more recent case is of Sarvesh Kumar Dharayan, Chair of the Reception Committee of FIA 2013 who was arrested from his home in New Jersey on July 17, in a multi-million fraud, and charged with one count of conspiracy to commit honest services fraud, which carries a maximum term of 20 years in prison, one count of conspiracy to violate the Travel Act, which carries a maximum term of five years in prison and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering, which carries a maximum term of 20 years in prison.

FIA has been having such illustrious people at the helm of affairs. And to keep company with such illustrious people, we are having another few illustrious people from India at FIA Parade on August 18, 2013. Do we not feel wronged when a champion against corruption decides to come to this parade organized by not so clean an organization? Anna Hazare should know he is no ordinary person, that all his activities are being watched and interpreted by billions who love and admire him as another Gandhi.

He should know the high hopes people of Indian origin the world over have from him. He will only be promoting corruption and strengthening the unjust coterie by coming to India Day Parade in New York. The worthy retired General of Indian army, V.K. Singh, one hopes, has not forgotten the strict protocol that he has been following in his long military career.

Before you accept an invitation, know where you are going. Before meeting a person, know who you are meting with. The least that this newspaper expects of him is that he turns his back on FIA India Day Parade in New York and never again accepts an invitation from such an organization. For the people from entertainment industry, from the hot and the most sought after siren of Bollywood, Vidya Balan, to the South Indian film world “supreme star” Sarath Kumar and “Queen of Indian TV” Radhika Sharat Kumar, I would say, “New York welcomes you. You are here to make money and showcase your talent.

You are here to entertain and in return win applause which will add up to your personal satisfaction, popularity and rating. I will not ask you not to show up because I will not like to snatch a person’s means of sustenance. Good luck to you!” But all who have been invited in the name of Bharat Mata must know where they are, in whose company they are, and what the intentions of the people behind FIA are.

Congratulations on the 66th anniversary of Independence of India, the largest democracy of the world, in the land of the oldest democracy of the world! Jai Hind!

  • Chor Chor Super Chor

    Chor Chor Super Chor

STORY: Satbir (Deepak Dobriyal), a former pickpocket, intends to make a fresh start in life. He falls in love with Neena (Priya Bhatija) and plans to settle down, but a major twist awaits his tale. REVIEW: Meanwhile, Satbir resists going back to Shuklaji (Avtar Sahani), his mentor, who heads a gang of petty thieves. He chooses to be dressed as a huge samosa instead, outside a food stall.

The situation gets wacky as he is also lured by Amol (Jagat Rawat), another selfproclaimed crook. The latter is forever on a mission to poach Shuklaji’s loyal men to form his own gang, so that he can commit bigger crimes. Then there’s a cop, who considers robbery an art and thus thieves as artists! Can it get any crazier? Chor Chor Super Chor is a light-hearted, delightful film with a unique storyline and a superb twist. Set in Delhi, it is not an out-an-out entertainer, but manages to keep you intrigued, thanks to its quirky, innovative concept.

Since the film’s running time is under two hours, the length is just perfect and nowhere does it drag. The romance between Satbir and Neena is interesting. Their song seems a bit abrupt though. However, what limits the film from being a hardcore comedy is its inability to deliver laugh-out-loud moments. You don’t see yourself laughing heartily throughout the movie, except for a scene where an overweight thug gasps for breath after having to climb a tall under-construction building, which happens to be his boss’ adda.

Deepak Dobriyal is impressive as usual. Priya Bhatija is pleasant. Even the supporting actors do a good job. We hate to give away the twist but let us tell you, Chor Chor Super Chor could also be titled Tu Sher Toh Main Sawa Sher as that’s what the film is all about. Don’t go expecting a solid comedy and you won’t be disappointed.

Since her debut, the 30-year-old has given numerous hits — “Namastey London”, “Welcome”, “Singh Is Kinng”, “Raajneeti”, “New York” and “Jab Tak Hai Jaan”, among others. “Today, she (Katrina Kaif) has become such a big star and has reached the number one position in the industry. It feels good.

This shows that hard work and perseverance can get you in right place,” Kaizad told reporters on-location of his next film “Jackpot”. “Why not, I will work with Katrina? Definitely I will, if I will get the right script,” he said. When asked whether he is in touch with his discovery, he said: “Not really. If I will have a movie, I will get in touch with her. It’s like that.

I don’t like to stay in touch just for staying in touch.” Kaizad, who is returning to direction after nine years with “Jackpot”, met Katrina during the latter’s modelling days in London. Remembering that time, Kaizad said: “When I met her (Katrina), I said: ‘You come to Mumbai and you will be a big star.’ But it took her six months to come to Mumbai because she didn’t know how to speak in Hindi and all,” he said. “I knew that when I will cast her, she will leave her impression… I was just the catalyst, rest is her hard work,” he added.

The 39-year-old will showcase a new collection called L’Agent, which she has created for the lingerie brand in collaboration with her sister M’nica Cruz. “It was very personal and important for me, a very interesting experience. They gave me all the freedom and I was able to tell the story I wanted to tell,” femalefirst.co.uk quoted Cruz as saying.

“I used women of all shapes and sizes, as it was important for me to let women know that this brand is for everyone,” she added. Cruz cast model Irina Shayk in the video, alongside her husband Javier Bardem and Monica. The project was a family affair since her younger brother Eduardo was in charge of composing the music and her mother, Encarna Sanchez, helped on the set.

Cruz, who also worked for Agent Provocateur, Autumn-Winter 2012 campaign, said: “I chose Irina, as she is such a vivacious woman, and with all the beautiful women in the campaign, I really needed someone who would keep the audience’s attention.” The collection will be on sale from Aug 1.

  • MOVIE REVIEW – The Wolverine

    MOVIE REVIEW – The Wolverine

Cast: Hugh Jackman, Tao Okamoto, Famke Janssen,
Hiroyuki Sanada, Rila Fukushima, Hal Yamanouchi,
    Svetlana Khodchenkova, Will Yun Lee
    Direction: James Mangold
    Genre: Adventure
    Duration: 2 hours 17 minutes

STORY: The Wolverine/Logan is summoned to Japan to meet an old friend whose life he had saved in Nagasaki, during World War 2. On his deathbed, the man (now a billionaire industrialist) wants to return the favor to Logan. However, the latter is drawn into a conflict that is as much about confronting his demons as it is a fight for survival. MOVIE REVIEW: Some of the Wolverine’s (Jackman) instinctual qualities include being able to sniff out danger. So, when Yukio (Fukushima) tracks down Logan and brings him to Yashida (Yamanouchi), Logan senses something wrong. He is angered by the deal Yashida suggests and plans to leave Japan.

But then, he encounters Yashida’s sexy granddaughter Mariko ( Tao Okamoto) who immediately appeals to another set of Logan’s instincts. Yashida’s death leads to a battle for his fortune and various bad guys make a beeline to kill Mariko because she has been appointed sole heiress. The Wolverine becomes her guardian (and more) and Yukio (Mariko’s childhood pal) becomes Wolverine’s ‘bodyguard’. This is when director Mangold takes a deep dip into various Japanese themes. Ninjas, modern-day Yakuza, themes of loyalty, honour and even Shinto references are visited here.

The Japanese setting – bright lights, big city as well as rural outskirts – is delightful. On the run, Wolverine is attracted to Mariko’s unflappable calm and strength as much as she is to his bravery and courage. He sometimes hallucinates about Jean Grey (Janssen) who was the love of his life, even while in bed with Mariko. So, you have old love versus new love too.

Also after them is the venom-spitting Viper (Khodchenkova) in a green bodysuit who takes the femme fatale bit too far. There are superhero movies with better gags and then there are superhero films with more effects. Eschewing any of those in excess, what this film also offers is soul, pathos and a pretty good look at the multifaceted character that is The Wolverine.

Though Deepika was always the front-runner, she remained silent because her dates were being worked out. Even now, she has refrained from commenting. The Murky Business Of India Day Parades In NY & NJ

Every year the number of India Day Parades being organized in NY & NJ is increasing. The oldest organizer is FIA followed by IBA and then OTIBA. The latest entrant to this Band wagon is IDPUSA of Hicksville founded by 3 controversial characters; one gave money from a non profit organization meant for medicines for poor to this organization for the parade; one is a County employee and publisher of an English weekly with murky financial dealings, and the third one is running a chain of restaurants on County properties.

If we take a quick look the only purpose of these Parades is to make a quick name recognition as well as quick money or monetary favors for the organizers or to dispense monetary favors to the favorite vendors; with least amount of efforts as well as a chance for them to be close to Bollywood celebrities, local officials and politicians. In nutshell none of these organizations has any thing to do with rich culture and traditions of India or its 30 states or its religious diversity.

All they do is parade themselves, their families, friends, vendors, Bollywood star, local officials and US politicians in these Insult India Parades. Some of them being paraded have taken Political Asylum in USA by labeling India as a tormentor state, some are criminals, like a former FIA President and the chair of FIA 2013 Parade Reception Committee, and some are of Pakistani origin And now the worst. Crusaders against corruption, like Anna Hazare, are there to keep company with all kinds of dubious characters.

    MOVIE REVIEW – Red 2

Cast: Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Anthony Hopkins,
Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren,
    Byung-hun Lee
    Direction: Dean Parisot
    Genre: Action
    Duration: 1 hour 56 minutes

Story: Retired black-ops CIA agent Frank Moses teams up with his fellow agents in a quest to locate a missing and deadly nuclear device. Movie Review: The idea of retired CIA operatives (read: killers) being pressed back into service in the face of mortal danger isn’t new. In this case, the fun lies in the execution. And with the kind of multifaceted cast that this film has, there’s bound to be some surprises.

Frank (Willis) has settled down with Sarah ( Mary- Louise Parker, from the first part of *Red*) into a somewhat humdrum routine. It turns out that Frank and his former eccentric and intelligent partner Marvin Boggs (Malkovich, excellent) helped smuggle a nuclear device called ‘Nightshade’ (a metal briefcase containing a nuclear bomb) into Russia during the Cold War.

Boggs subsequently faked his own death to get off the espionage radar, until the present day. The US government decides that they want the device and declare Boggs, Frank and Sarah to be terrorists. And so, the chase begins. Russian agent Katja (Zeta-Jones), who also happens to be Frank’s past paramour, is after Nightshade too. The Pentagon enlists MI6 agent Victoria ( Helen Mirren) and hit-man Han Cho Bai ( Byung-hun Lee) to locate them.

It turns into a pan-European chase. Only Edward Bailey (Hopkins, totally on point), the scientist who created Nightshade, can help them find it. Juxtaposed in the midst of all this action are Frank and Sarah’s relationship issues. And even in the midst of all the action, there’s never a missed opportunity for the couple to receive relationship advice from anyone, be it the bumbling Boggs, Han of the furious fisticuffs or even cold-blooded Victoria.

There are some tantalizing twists and turns that keep you looking forward to what happens next. Willis does his action-comedy routine adroitly. With nicely-timed sequences stitched together and gags galore, the humour in the film positively crackles! Or, as Bailey often says, “Jolly good!”
