Embassy of India in Romania Organizes Special Screening of Blockbuster Film Dhurandhar for Students in Chisinau

BUCHAREST (TIP): The Embassy of India in Bucharest, with concurrent accreditation to the Republic of Moldova, organized a special screening of the blockbuster action film Dhurandhar in Chisinau on 16 February 2026, as part of its dedicated efforts to engage Indian students studying abroad, a cornerstone priority of the Government of India. The event drew over 400 participants, including Indian students pursuing higher education in medicine, engineering, and other fields at universities across Chisinau, members of the Indian diaspora, and friends of India from Moldova.

Held at a premier local theatre, the screening transformed into a vibrant cultural hub, with the auditorium buzzing with anticipation, cheers echoing through iconic dialogues, and the aroma of shared Indian snacks fostering an instant sense of home. For the students, who form the backbone of India-Moldova people-to-people ties, the evening was more than cinematic entertainment. It provided a vital platform to unwind from academic rigors, exchange notes on studies and career aspirations, and network with peers and mentors from the diaspora. Many shared stories of balancing rigorous coursework with cultural isolation, expressing how the Embassy’s initiative reignited their pride in India’s dynamic soft power through cinema. Interactive sessions post-screening allowed students to discuss the film’s themes of resilience and innovation, mirroring their own journeys abroad, and explore opportunities in India-Moldova collaborations in education, technology, and startups.

The warm appreciation from the audience underscored the event’s impact: students hailed it as a “breath of fresh air,” offering comfort, camaraderie, and a renewed sense of belonging far from family. Diaspora members relished reconnecting, mentoring young talents, and welcoming newcomers, further solidifying community bonds. Beyond recreation, the screening reinforced cultural bridges between India and Moldova, amplifying youth engagement to nurture future leaders. It exemplified the Embassy’s commitment to the Government of India’s focus on student welfare abroad, through cultural diplomacy, scholarships awareness, and events that promote Indian values of innovation, diversity, and perseverance, while strengthening enduring bilateral ties.

This initiative also significantly advanced the promotion of Indian cinema in Moldova and across Eastern European countries. By showcasing Dhurandhar’s high-octane storytelling and universal appeal to a diverse audience, the event sparked keen interest among local theatre-goers, media, and cultural enthusiasts, paving the way for wider distribution of Indian films in the region. It builds on the growing popularity of Bollywood and regional cinema in Eastern Europe, fostering greater cultural exchange and positioning Indian movies as a bridge for tourism, youth inspiration, and economic partnerships in entertainment.

The Embassy of India in Bucharest extends its sincere gratitude to the producers and promoters of Dhurandhar for their generous support, and to the Chisinau theatre for hosting this memorable occasion. The Embassy looks forward to more such student-focused initiatives in Moldova and Romania.
