Embassy of India and ISFM Organize “Disha 2026” Celebrations in Chișinău Strengthening India–Moldova Cultural and People-to-People Ties

BUCHAREST (TIP): The Embassy of India in Bucharest, in collaboration with the Indian Students Forum Moldova (ISFM), organized the “Disha 2026” celebrations in Chisinau on 9 May 2026 with enthusiastic participation from Indian students studying at various universities across the Republic of Moldova. The event highlighted the growing educational, cultural, and people-to-people linkages between India and Moldova and served as a vibrant platform to showcase India’s rich cultural heritage and the contribution of the Indian student community in Moldova.
The celebrations were graced by H.E. Mr. Ion Ceban, Mayor of Chisinau, and Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania and concurrently accredited to the Republic of Moldova. The event was also attended by members of the Indian community, Moldovan guests, university representatives, students, and friends of India. The programme featured cultural performances, traditional Indian music and dance, and interactive engagements reflecting the diversity and vibrancy of Indian culture.
In his address, H.E. Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania and concurrently accredited to the Republic of Moldova, underlined the importance of promoting Indian culture, traditions, and values among the wider Moldovan society. He emphasized that initiatives such as “Disha 2026” should extend beyond the Indian diaspora and student community and contribute towards strengthening broader societal and cultural connections between the people of India and Moldova.
Addressing the gathering, H.E. Mr. Ion Ceban, Mayor of Chisinau, appreciated the positive contribution of the Indian community and Indian students to Moldovan society. He acknowledged the role played by Indian students in strengthening bilateral understanding and enriching the multicultural character of Chisinau. Mayor Ceban also announced that the celebrations of India’s Independence Day in Chisinau would be organized on a much larger scale this year with the support of the Municipality.
The Mayor assured the full cooperation and support of the Chișinău Municipality for the forthcoming celebrations, including assistance in the areas of publicity, logistics, public outreach, and promotion of Indian culture throughout the city. He expressed confidence that such initiatives would further deepen friendship and cooperation between India and Moldova.
The “Disha 2026” celebrations concluded in a warm and festive atmosphere, reaffirming the close bonds between the Indian community and the people of Moldova, and reflecting the shared commitment of both sides to enhancing cultural exchanges and people-to-people engagement.
