Born in Jalandhar, Punjab, India, Bahl was raised in a family that valued education, discipline, integrity, and service. Her father rose from working as a railway clerk to becoming a successful entrepreneur, while her mother dedicated her life to education, eventually serving as a school principal. Together, they instilled in her the belief that one’s circumstances should never define one’s future, and that success is measured not only by personal achievement but by service to others.
After marrying at a young age, Bahl immigrated to the United States in 1979. Armed with a Bachelor of Science, a Bachelor of Education, and a Master’s degree in English from India, she soon discovered that building a new life often required beginning again. Her first job in America was as a babysitter, followed by positions as a receptionist and later as a medical researcher.
For more than two decades, Bahl built a distinguished career in medical research at renowned institutions, including the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Emory University. The scientific rigor of research strengthened her analytical thinking, attention to detail, and commitment to evidence-based decision-making—qualities that would later become hallmarks of her judicial career.
A life-changing automobile accident in 1990 became the catalyst for a remarkable professional transformation. During her recovery, Bahl reflected deeply on her purpose and resolved to pursue a career in law. Balancing family responsibilities, work, and academic commitments, she earned her law degree from Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School, embracing the belief that the law is a powerful instrument for justice and meaningful public service.
Following her admission to the bar, Bahl devoted approximately fifteen years to the practice of immigration law. Drawing upon her own immigrant experience, she became a trusted advocate for families, professionals, and workers seeking to establish new lives in the United States. Her work extended beyond legal representation; it provided hope, guidance, and opportunity to countless individuals navigating the complexities of the American immigration system.
Her commitment to public service naturally expanded into civic leadership. Bahl served on the Cobb County Board of Elections and Registration and was appointed to Georgia’s Judicial Nominating Commission, where she played an important role in strengthening public confidence in democratic and judicial institutions. Through these appointments, she demonstrated a steadfast commitment to the rule of law, civic responsibility, and the importance of diverse representation within public office.

A defining milestone in her distinguished career came in 2020 when Governor Brian Kemp appointed her to the Appellate Division of the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation. Reappointed in 2024, Judge Bahl now serves as one of only three appellate judges responsible for reviewing workers’ compensation cases across the state.
In this role, Judge Bahl oversees complex legal appeals that profoundly affect the lives of injured workers, employers, insurers, and their families. Her judicial philosophy is grounded in fairness, impartiality, and integrity. As she has often emphasized, “Every case represents a human story. Every decision requires discipline, compassion, and respect for the law.” Her balanced approach and unwavering commitment to justice have earned her respect throughout Georgia’s legal community.
Throughout her career, Bahl has remained deeply connected to her Indian heritage. Judge Neera Bahl serves on the Appellate Division of the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation, having been appointed by Governor Brian Kemp in 2020 and reappointed in 2024. She is one of three appellate judges entrusted with reviewing workers’ compensation appeals across the State of Georgia.
Before joining the bench, Judge Bahl practiced immigration law for approximately fifteen years, representing individuals, families, and professionals pursuing the American dream. Earlier in her career, she spent more than two decades in medical research at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Emory University.
