Avengers Doomsday trailer: Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom rules as top villain

The second trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is out, putting Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom front and centre. The trailer offers a closer look at the villain’s emotional backstory, his connection to The Fantastic Four and the terrifying extent of his powers. Unveiled at Disney’s D23, the footage expands on the story teased in the first trailer and sets up a major confrontation between Doom and some of Marvel’s most powerful heroes.
The two-minute, ten-second trailer sheds light on Victor von Doom’s past and his relationship with The Fantastic Four, particularly Reed Richards and Sue Storm. Vanessa Kirby’s Sue is heard explaining Victor’s transformation to a group of heroes that includes the Avengers, Shang-Chi, the X-Men, Steve Rogers and Shuri.
“Victor was always the smartest guy in every room. He used to be different. He used to be kind, he used to be caring. And then, everything he loved was taken from him. I knew he was lost, but I did not realise he was broken,” Sue says.
The clip then shifts to Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards confronting Doom and asking him, “Did you do this?”
Doom responds with a cryptic warning: “All of you have lived stolen lives. But now you must give them back.”
The sequence cuts between the superheroes and glimpses of their lives and families before showing Doom standing before a tapestry depicting his wife and son, hinting at the personal tragedy that may have shaped his motivations.
One of the highlights in the trailer sees Chris Hemsworth’s Thor going up against Doom. Armed with Stormbreaker, Thor charges towards the villain and warns, “I swear you will beg for hell long before I grant it.”
But Doom barely appears threatened. He stops Thor’s attack using just two fingers before overpowering the God of Thunder and sending him flying with a blast of green energy.
