Students forced to take university final exam naked in University of California, San Diego

Students at UC San Diego must take their final exam in the nude, or risk failing.
The final exam for the art visual class at the University of California at San Diego involved students acting out a series of gestures, according to the teacher. The last gesture was labeled “erotic self.”
According to the Huffington Post, Ricardo Dominguez, a professor at University of California, San Diego, stands by his teaching methods for the “Visual Arts 104A: Performing the Self” module.
“At the very end of the class, we’ve done several gestures, they have to nude gesture. The prompt is to speak about or do a gesture to create an installation that says, ‘what is more you than you are,’” Dominguez was quoted saying.
The Chair of the University of California San Diego’s Visual Arts Department refuted the professor’s claim that nudity was a requirement. He said students could perform the so-called “nude gesture” without having to remove their clothes. He also said the class was not a requirement for graduation.
The proffesor added that he has been taking the class for 11 years, and has never received a single complaint about the final exam.

Another Earthquake strikes Nepal & India

    [vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

Nepal: A powerful earthquake jolted mountainous Nepal today (May 12th), killing 42 people, bringing down buildings and triggering landslide less than three weeks after a devastating temblor left a swathe of destruction in the Himalayan nation.

Hundreds of terrified people rushed out of their homes and buildings toppled as the 7.3-magnitude earthquake, centred 68km west of the town of Namche Bazaar near Mount Everest, sent ripples in India all the way from the border states of Bihar and West Bengal to Gujarat and Delhi.

At least 17 people died in India in the fresh quake.

“I was taking my afternoon nap after lunch and somehow managed to rush out with my baby. My house is safe but I am afraid to go inside,” said Bimala Magar, a resident of Kathmandu’s Dhumbarahi.

More than 1,000 people were injured as the quake flattened buildings in Kathmandu and other parts of Nepal already weakened by the 7.9-magnitude April 25 earthquake.

The fresh tremors, which lasted nearly a minute, came just as residents of Kathmandu and other districts were picking up the pieces after last month’s quake that killed about 8,000 people and uprooted millions.

Nepal Police sent out tweets asking residents to clear the roads for movement of rescue workers while police also asked people not to clog the mobile network with calls and use text messages for sending information.

Operations at Kathmandu’s Tribhuwan International Airport were suspended and Nepal’s parliament, which was in session when the quake struck, was also adjourned.

“Search and rescue teams have been sent to all affected districts. These are difficult times for Nepal, I appeal for all friends to help us and urge our citizens to stay strong,” Prime Minister Sushil Koirala said.

  • Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows: OS as WaaS

Windows 10 will be the last version of Windows: OS as WaaS

Microsoft executive Jerry Nixon confirmed at the company’s Ignite conference held on May 9th, that the upcoming Windows 10 update will be the company’s last version of Windows.

Windows is not going away, in fact; Microsoft plans to update the OS in a more incremental manner going forward, and that could mean a much more dynamic platform.

“Right now we’re releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we’re all still working on Windows 10,” Nixon told a room of developers last week at his firm’s ongoing Ignite conference  May 9-13, 2016.

That’s different, said Nixon. Before, Microsoft would talk about the newest edition but would keep quiet about the next, which it had already started.

“I can say things like ‘Yeah, we’re working on interactive tiles and it’s coming to Windows 10 in one of its future updates,’ Nixon said. “We are now not always just thinking about what’s not here today. Now we can talk about things in a new way, and much more open way than we have before.”

His point was that Windows 10 will be updated regularly — and far more frequently than its predecessors — to become, like Google’s Chrome or Apple’s OS X, a constantly-churning product. Microsoft has described this model as “Windows as a service” to note its always-fresh trait, like a cloud-based service, even though the OS resides — as it always has — locally on the device.

Without a new name every three years or so — Windows XP begat Vista which begat Windows 7 which begat Windows 8 — the OS will be pegged as Windows 10 for the foreseeable future.

Each edition will be “Windows 10”

Certainly, Microsoft expects that most consumers will stick to the tick-tock of updates, and so will always be on the latest, ameliorating the nameless Windows. Yet not everyone updates. And businesses may stifle the fast cadence for their workers’ devices and their networks’ machines, making it prudent for Microsoft to tag monikers at intervals.

  • Why Indian-Americans could switch to the GOP

Why Indian-Americans could switch to the GOP

With the 2016 US presidential elections fast approaching, how will the Indian-Americans – the fastest-growing, 3.2-million-strong minority community – vote? Starting off as a small immigrant group back in the early 1800s, Indian-Americans now account for America’s second largest immigrant group. Indian Americans have a large presence in various fields, including business, medicine, and technology. This community is the most highly-educated minority in the country – nearly 70% of Indian Americans in the US have bachelor’s degrees compared to just 28% of Americans overall. Even in politics, the share of Indian-American representation is only rising.

The Indian-American community has voted largely for the Democrats perhaps in part due to the racialization of American politics. This mindset separates the electorate into two groups: the white population and the minority population. As a result, Indian-Americans are further united with all the other minorities, pushing them into the Democrat camp, which continues to become more diverse. However, if one looks closely at Indian-Americans, they could actually be a natural fit for the Republican Party for three important reasons.

First, they are one of the most successful minority groups in the entire country. Business success has a correlation to more conservative political leanings. Indian-American median annual household income of $88,000 is almost twice the average American equivalent, and also 33% higher than the average household income of Asians in the United States overall. These statistics reflect the community’s belief that with talent and hard work, success is possible without any help from the government – sound familiar?

Second, Indian-Americans also have strong family values as a result of cultural and religious traditions that are centuries old. Looking forward to 2016, the GOP is struggling to connect with minorities, and bringing Indian-Americans on board could help them increase their constituent diversity, and thereby credibility. This could enable the GOP to prepare the party for crucial changes to US demographics that could otherwise shift the political spectrum out from under their feet.

Third, most Indians who immigrated to the US moved because of the economic paralysis from Nehruvian socialism in India. This populace stands for economic opportunity in a free and competitive market — the same economic values that resonate with the GOP. In last year’s national elections back in India, the country’s center-right Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Narendra Modi, won a landslide election on the platform of economic growth and jobs, routing the leftist Congress party after a 10-year rule.

Indian-Americans here likewise showed overwhelming support for BJP’s Modi. Most of them still maintain strong ties to India, whether through travel, or teaching their children the language and culture. Let’s wait to see if the drastic shift in voting patterns back in India actually influences the sizable Indian-American community in next year’s elections in America.

  • BOBBY JINDAL: OBAMA TURNING ‘AMERICAN DREAM INTO EUROPEAN NIGHTMARE’

BOBBY JINDAL: OBAMA TURNING ‘AMERICAN DREAM INTO EUROPEAN NIGHTMARE’

On Saturday in South Carolina, Louisiana Governor and potential 2016 GOP presidential candidate Bobby Jindal accused President Barack Obama of trying to turn the American Dream into the “European nightmare.”

Speaking at the Freedom Summit, which was sponsored by Citizens United and Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC), Jindal told voters in the first-in-the-South primary state that the “greatest threat we face from the Obama administration” is “what he is doing to redefine the idea of America, the idea of the American Dream.”

Jindal said after dividing Americans by “race, gender, geography,” Obama is trying to redefine the American Dream “into one about dependence, about government growth, about government spending.”

He accused Obama of wanting to make “us sound more and more like Europe” and said Obama’s left-leaning policies make it seem like he is intent on turning “the American Dream into the European nightmare.”

Jindal cited radical Islamic terrorism as an external threat and the assault on religious liberty at home as an internal threat that must be confronted so that America does not fundamentally transform and remains the country his immigrant father loved so much that he told Jindal to pray each day and thank God “that you were blessed to be born in the greatest country in the history of the world.”

Regarding radical Islamic terrorism, Jindal said “for some reason we have a president who doesn’t even like to use those words to discuss the enemy that we face.” After saying he was thankful that the two terrorists who opened fire last week in Garland Texas at a Mohammed cartoon exhibit that celebrated free speech were “sent to their afterlife,” Jindal said that Muslim leaders have an obligation to denounce individual terrorists by name and make it clear that they are not martyrs who will enjoy rewards in the afterlife but rather “will go straight to hell, where they belong.” He also called on Muslim leaders to declare that they “tolerate and respect the freedoms of others with religious beliefs different from their own.”

“It is not racist, anti-Muslim to demand that these leaders condemn terrorists, these thugs, these evil, evil individuals,” Jindal said, noting that the left likes to denounce anyone critical of radical Islam as being intolerant or insensitive.

Jindal also said the “assault on religious liberty we see taking place across the entire country” must be stopped. Citing the Hobby Lobby case, Duck Dynasty patriarch Phil Robertson, and recent religious freedom cases in Indiana and Arkansas, Jindal said “there are no other freedoms without religious liberty” and blasted the left for “trying to silence us” and prevent Americans from living “our lives according to our faith, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.”

“The United States of America did not create religious liberty,” he said. “Religious liberty created the United States of America.”

He told the story of his immigrant parents who went from India to Baton Rouge and said he was tired of “hyphenated-Americans.” Jindal said people should be referred to as Americans instead of Indian-Americans, Asian-Americans, African-Americans, etc. He noted that his mother told him that she would have stayed in India if she wanted to raise Jindal as an Indian or an Indian-American and said his mother “came here to be an American.”

“If we stay united, nobody can beat us,” he said.

    FACEBOOK RUINING MARRIAGES: STUDY

One in seven Britons have contemplated divorce because their partners spend too much time on various social media platforms, a top British legal firm has revealed.

The study by Slater and Gordon Lawyers found that social networking site Facebook was considered the
“most dangerous” place for ruining relationships.

“Five years ago, Facebook was rarely mentioned in the context of a marriage ending but now it has become commonplace for clients to cite social media use or something they discovered on social media, as a reason for divorce,” Andrew Newbury, head of family law at Slater and Gordon, said in an online statement.

“We are finding that social media is the new marriage minefield,” he added.

According to the findings, while almost half of people secretly check their partner’s Facebook account, one in five also indulge in brawls related to Facebook with their partner.

Nearly 25 percent of married couples said they “had at least one argument a week” because of social media use. Nearly 17 percent said they fight daily over something they find online about their partner, GeekWire.com reported.

Over 58 percent of the people know their partner’s log-in details. The most common reasons for checking their partner’s social media accounts was to find out who their partner was talking to and find out if they were telling the truth about their social life.

According to Newbury, pictures and posts on Facebook are now being routinely raised in the course of divorce proceedings.

  • GABBAR IS BACK – Movie review

GABBAR IS BACK – Movie review

REVIEW: Gabbar is back – and so is Akshay Kumar, with a big-screen bang. Professor Aditya (Akshay) has a secret life as vigilante Gabbar who terrorizes government officials. Gabbar and his gang kidnap tehsildars, collectors and cops, hanging the most corrupt in public. As the police search frantically for this rebel with a cause, Gabbar decides corrupt builder Patil (Suman) ko bhi sazaa milegi, barabar milegi – does Gabbar succeed?

Legend says Amjad Khan as Sholay’s dreaded iconic villain Gabbar Singh was so explosive, cassettes featuring just Gabbar’s dialogues sold for years. Gabbar Is Back picks up that high-voltage pulse, remixing it cleverly with the biggest concern of contemporary times – corruption. This Gabbar also terrorizes – but only targets the corrupt. For aam citizens, Gabbar’s an inspiring figure – one who makes you cheer for the ‘bad’ guy.

Akshay Kumar has a blast playing Gabbar who, with dark, wavy hair and bristly beard, has never looked hotter. With twinkling eyes and deadpan face, Akshay delivers dynamite dialogues – ‘Naam se villain, kaam se hero’, flawless bone-breaking action, redefining PWD (‘power-wala danda’), switching from loose-limbed vulnerability to jaw-clenched intensity in a flash.

The story powers him with its novel concept (a moral universe where Gabbar is hero and Thakur, a smug cop, snapping at bright constable Sadhuram, played by straight-faced Sunil Grover) and contrasts. Doctors pretending to treat a dead man, nervous officials returning bribes via money orders, tickle you with dark comedy. But you wince as Aditya hears mocking ‘apologies’ by babus, bribed to pass a faulty building that collapses – with many lives.

With gritty reality, Gabbar has glamour too – Shruti charms with her soft, pretty appeal while a cameo by Kareena adds sheen but doesn’t divert. The second half’s blood pressure doesn’t fully match the first (Patil’s insistent ‘I am a brand!’ gets repetitive while CBI officer Pahwa looks clueless without Sadhuram’s ‘axellent’ work) – but the climax pushes up the adrenaline again.

While the music’s pleasantly seamless, the editing is razor-sharp, evoking Manmohan Desai, rushing you from one entertaining scene to the next, without time to figure things out – but just enough to feel.

Now, Gabbar Is Back – and you’ll feel his return rocks.

  • THE SUN GOD

    THE SUN GOD

In Roman times, Sunday was the first day of the week —an important day named after the Sun-God. Helios or Hyperion was the Greco-Roman Sun-God, who later merged with another Greek god, Apollo, the youthful, energetic, beautiful god who shot arrows that got rid of the darkness. When the Roman empire became Christian, the day of the Sun became Dominica, the Day of the Lord, the day when — according to Christians — God rested after creating the world in six days.

Unlike the months of the year, weekdays have no astronomical correlations. It is an arbitrary division of time, believed to have its origin in Babylon from where it spread eastwards to India and thence to China and westwards through Rome to around the Mediterranean. Just as Romans attributed the first day of the week to the Sun, so did Indians who called it Ravi-vaar. Why was the first day of the week associated with the Sun, no one knows. It is one of those mysteries of history that remain unresolved. The earliest reference to Sunday in India comes from texts dated after 400 CE, and it is believed to have come with Sun-worshippers like the Huns, Parthians and Scythians, who entered India around the time of the Gupta kings.

    MYSTERIOUS HORSE

Surya is an important god in Hinduism. He is the chief graha or celestial body around which revolve all the astrological grahas. He is the Supreme Father whose chariot is made up of 12 wheels, each wheels corresponding to the seasons, and which is pulled by seven horses. They say that while six horses are seen, the seventh horse is unseen. It is the mysterious horse of intuitive wisdom whose presence is felt but which remains invisible. Surya’s charioteer is Aruni, the god who is incomplete, of ambiguous gender, because his mother, in her impatience, broke the egg before he was fully ready to be hatched. Aruni shoots arrows that pierce the night sky, which is why dawn is so blood red.

Surya’s wife is called Saranya or Sanjana who gave her husband a pair of twins: Yama, the first man to die and hence the god of death, and Yami, who turned into the river, Yamuna, and to the night, Yamini, mourning for her brother. Unable to bear her husband’s radiance, Saranya ran away leaving behind her shadow-twin, Chaya. Chaya gave birth to Shani, the lord of Saturn, god who delays things. Surya realised that Chaya was a duplicate wife when he noticed that she did not love Yama the way she loved Shani. So he went looking for his true wife and courted her as a horse when he learnt that she had turned into a mare. From this equine union came the horse-headed twins, Ashwins, lords of the morning and evening star, who bring health and healing wherever they go. Scriptures refer to another son of the Sun, Revanta, the lord of the hunt, shown in art riding horses. Thus, horses are closely associated with the Sun-God.

    CENTRAL ASIAN LINK

In vedic times, men did not ride horses; horses were used only to pull chariots. Horse-riding as a technique came into India much later from central Asia. Perhaps, the horse-riders were also Sun-worshippers, and so Surya, who rides a chariot pulled by seven horses, came to have a son who rides a horse and shoots arrows much like the Parthians and Scythians of central Asia. These tribes, as also the Huns, are said to be ancestors of the Rajput clan, which explains why Rajputs loved horses and claimed descent from the Sun-God. Surya is also the father of Manu, the first human king. One is not sure who his mother is; some say it is Saranya, others say it is Chaya.

“Something that people don’t know is that when I worked in the US, I was a part of a comedy group. There used to be acts, stand up comedies and in between we used to do comedy skits and comedy games.”

“So, I have a little bit of training. I wouldn’t say I am the funniest person ever but I have a good sense of humour. I am not afraid of tripping over myself or making fool of myself on camera so there is no embarrassment on-screen. I am usually up for anything,” Sunny told reporters here.

The “Ragini MMS 2” actress is aware that she is typecast as a sex symbol in her films, given her adult star background but Sunny is not keen of getting caged into an image.

“I don’t know about breaking or recreating any image. My fans have been seeing me from a long time… Things change with time. This year you are going to see me in very different films. But there are a couple of movies which are not that glamorous,” she said.

“Kuch Kuch Locha Hai” also stars Ram Kapoor, Evelyn Sharma. While praising her co-stars, Sunny said the film has given her great friends, who made her shooting experiences memorable.

  • While We’re Young – MOVIE REVIEW

While We’re Young – MOVIE REVIEW

STORY: Josh (Stiller) and Cornelia (Watts) are a middle-aged couple whose lives are re-energized when they meet a much younger, hip couple Jamie (Driver) and Darby (Seyfried). However, the exchange of influences between the two couples doesn’t turn out to be all that symbiotic in the long run.

REVIEW: Josh and Cornelia pretty much have nothing to complain about the way life treats them, except for the proverbial white elephant in the room that they can’t ignore – their lives as individuals and as a married couple, are empty. Their sex life is in the doldrums and they go about day-to-day tasks like automatons. So it’s no surprise that when Darby and, more specifically, Jamie enter their lives one day after Josh winds up giving a lecture in a college, it’s like a breath of fresh air. Josh and Jamie’s ‘bromance’ blossoms and the former loves everything about Jamie – from his worn sneakers to his expansive LP collection. In a short while, Josh and Cornelia learn to loosen up and live a little.

This also means adopting various forms of hipster cred, going to underground gatherings, taking hip hop dance classes and Josh sporting a fedora (de rigueur for a hipster) with dogged determination. But the smoothly shrewd Jamie is no slouch in the ambition department. He’ll not only squeeze Josh for every benefit, but also treat his own girlfriend like a glorified assistant. The relationship dynamics between the couples and a tongue-in-cheek look at generational gaps are the most delightful aspects of the film. Baumbach weaves in elements of playful-but-pointed social satire well enough, without making it all seem too heavy.

The casting is spot-on. Stiller is endearingly sincere as a filmmaker desperate for funding, but won’t compromise on his ethics. Seyfried and Driver go about their job without an ounce of hamming and Watts’ performance is a lesson in disarming straightforwardness. And Adam ‘Ad-rock’ Horovitz (of hip hop group Beastie Boys) is a natural at playing a stay-at-home dad. Other than that, the deft editing and the quick pace makes this a fun watch.

  • SOFIA VERGARA WAS ‘FORCED’ TO DATE JOE MANGANIELLO

SOFIA VERGARA WAS ‘FORCED’ TO DATE JOE MANGANIELLO

Hollywood actress Sofia Vergara says she was “forced” to date Joe Manganiello.

The 42-year-old, who stars in the hit show

“Modern Family”, has revealed she was initially reluctant to date the “True Blood” hunk because Manganiello, now 38, is younger than she is and she’d recently separated from Nick Loeb, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

Vergara said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”: “At the beginning I didn’t want to go out with him. Because I had just finished a relationship.”

“He seemed like a lot of work because so handsome and younger than me and like so sexy and whatever best bachelor or whatever he was. And I’m like ugh. Just too much! But he convinced me. He flew to New Orleans and forced me on a date.”

“I’m like he’s a great guy, super fun, super normal and we have like – we click. Like it’s super easy to hang out with him.”

Vergara and Manganiello got engaged on Christmas day last year, and the actress recently admitted they’ve already hired a wedding planner to stop them from getting anxious ahead of their special day.

She said: “We’re already planning. The good thing is that now-a-days you can hire someone to help you and I have a great planner that is taking a lot of the stress away.”

On her way to the final, Vinesh comfortably beat Tatyana Amanzhol-Bakatyuk of Kazakhstan in the semifinals after getting the better of Mongolia’s Tsogtbaatar Byambazaya in quarterfinals 8-0.

In the final bout, however, Vinesh could not overcome the challenge from her Japanese opponent, who proved to be too strong for the Indian girl. Vinesh lost 2-3 in the end.

Mausam got the better of CUI Xiaocheng of China 8-0 in the qualification round earlier.

  • For me what matters are runs that Virat Kohli scores: Sourav Ganguly

NEW DELHI (TIP): Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is not really bothered about whether Virat Kohli has attitude problems as what matters at the end of the day is his “class” and the “runs that he scores” for India.

On the context of whether he on the same lines as BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya about Virat’s behavioural issues, Ganguly replied, “You need to ask the BCCI president as to what he said on Virat. To me, he is a terrific player. That’s how I look at it. He is a young boy. He is just 26. Therefore, more he will learn, better he will get. At the end of the day, he is a class act.”

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA), Ganguly said that Kohli should be judged for his qualities as a top class batsman and the amount of runs he scores for India.

“I hope he continues to bat like the way he is doing right now. Every person is different and you got to treat them differently. I only look at the runs he scores and nothing else. I hope one day, he will lead the side to a World Cup title,” said Ganguly.

The elegant left-hander however skirted the issue of him taking up the India coach’s role.

“There is no point thinking about it. If you get the job, you do it. As of now, I am not aware of anything,” Ganguly didn’t want to entertain queries on his rumoured role.

Asked about comeback chances of Yuvraj Singh, who has been out in the wilderness for more than a year now, Ganguly said that he expects the stylish southpaw to be more consistent in the ongoing IPL.

“He (Yuvraj) has to be more consistent like he was in the past. The manner in which he played the last match
(against MI), I expect more such innings. So I hope he finds his touch soon,” said Prince of Calcutta.

He also presented a dead bat when asked about his views on IPL and corruption issues over the years as now he is an IPL Governing Council member.

“I have only attended one IPL Governing Council meeting. It is too early for me to pass a judgement on anything but I am sure every member wants the game to be clean,” he concluded.

  • Shiamak Davar sued for sexual harassment by two Canadian dancers

Shiamak Davar sued for sexual harassment by two Canadian dancers

Two men based in Vancouver have filed civil claims against celebrity Bollywood choreographer Shiamak Davar, alleging that they had been sexual harassed and spiritually controlled by him.

The cases were filed before the British Columbia Supreme Court on Wednesday by 33-year-old Vancouver television cameraman, and a 40-year-old IT services provider, seeking damages from Davar. Davar, in his filings in the same court, has denied all the allegations. In counter filings, his lawyers stated that the allegations were “simply not true and have been made with the intention of ruining Mr Davar’s character, reputation and affiliated organisations” and the “false accusations” were also “solely to take advantage of Mr Davar’s celebrity.”

Both men had joined Davar’s dance troupe in India and later moved to Canada and were also part of a Vancouver-headquartered group, VRRP Spiritual Learning, that Davar is alleged to be the current leader of.

In his case, the IT professional claimed he had joined Davar’s dance classes while in his late teens. He alleged he had been chosen for the core company and after that, for “over a period of several months”, Davar began a “grooming process to manipulate” him “into sexual submission.” In 2003, after completing his Commerce degree in Mumbai, the IT professional was asked to go to Toronto to teach in Davar’s dance school. Subsequently, he was moved to Vancouver for the same purpose. The cameraman, meanwhile, claimed he joined the dance classes when he was 16.

Both were were initiated into VRRP Spiritual Learning, founded by Khorshed Bhavnagri, who claimed to receive spirit messages from her sons and that they were relaying instructions via auto-writing to her and her associates, including Davar. The accusers claim Davar succeeded Bhavnagri as leader of the group upon her death in 2007.

After the IT professional moved to Vancouver, the suit alleges, Davar became more “controlling” than he had been in India, “using his position as a leader” of the spiritual group to “influence all aspects” of his life. That included breaking up his relationship with his girlfriend. He left the group in 2008, claiming that one “final sexual incident” had been the “last straw.”

The cameraman’s suit claims that Davar’s sexual advances began after he became a dance performer in the group. In his claim of sexual harassment, he alleges that Davar told him he “was selfish and his soul could not progress spiritually fast enough because he would not submit further” to him. Subsequently, he married his girlfriend and moved to Vancouver and was part of the VRRP group. After his marriage, the cameraman claimed he was “pressured” to have a child even as he was “starting to accept he was a gay man.” After Bhavnagri’s death, he assisted Davar in running VRRP. Between 2008 and 2010, sexual contact between the two increased. The complainant also alleged that Davar exercised “influence” over his girlfriend during the couple’s separation and divorce proceedings. In September 2010, the lawsuit stated, his responsibilities were “taken away”.

The cameraman alleged that as a result of Davar’s “sexual exploitation and/or sexual assaults”, he had ‘suffered psychological injury and damage.”

In an interview to Canadian public broadcaster CBC, which broke the story of the case, he alleged “He (Davar) was just publicly humiliating me…because I wasn’t giving him what he wanted…which was reciprocating to sexual acts.” He also stated he came forward as he wished to “protect his son from the potential ongoing danger of sexual abuse.”

In his response filed with the court, Davar’s lawyers said, “At all material times, Mr Davar performed his role as a teacher, employer and perceived spiritual advisor in a professional and appropriate manner” and that “at no time” did he “misuse or abuse his position in the dance company and/or perceived position in the spiritual group.” Davar’s dance school has operations in Canada and was also featured in the cultural programme that preceded the recent community reception for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Toronto, an event that also featured Canadian PM Stephen Harper.

  • Body Believed to be of Puneet Nehra Found in US River

Body Believed to be of Puneet Nehra Found in US River

HOUSTON:  The US authorities have recovered a body believed to be that of an Indian IT professional who went missing last week after a suspected drunken driver knocked him into a river when he tried to help the victims of a car crash.

A body found in the Brazos River near Clute is believed to be the remains of Puneet Nehra, 43, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office.

Divers with Equusearch recovered the body around 1 p.m. Saturday after the search for the man was extended downriver.

Mr Puneet Nehra, 43, of Sugar Land, went missing on May 3 while he was assisting a motorist involved in a minor wreck at a bridge crossing the Brazos River at the Grand Parkway, ABC news reported.

A passing driver struck the stranded car while Mr Nehra and another person were trying to push it to safety, authorities said. The force of the impact apparently threw Mr Nehra off the bridge and into the fast-moving river, about 50 feet below.

The driver suspected of striking the stranded car, Gregory Lee Kure, 30, of Needville, was arrested and has been charged with intoxication assault, authorities said.

Sheriff’s officials said Kure struck the stranded car only a few minutes before any first responders arrived at the accident scene. He was later released after posting a $ 25,000 bond but may face additional charges, officials said.

The Sheriff’s Office, along with local fire departments, have been actively searching the river by boat and helicopter for the last one week.

Mr Nehra migrated to the US from Noida in 2005 and was working in Avanade – a Microsoft and Accenture joint venture.

Although they believe the body found in the river is Mr Nehra, an official identification will be made by the Galveston County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The rogue police force claims to have existed for more than 3,000 years and have jurisdiction in 33 states and
    Mexico.

  • Islamic State claims Garland attack: Possible Extremist link being investigated

Islamic State claims Garland attack: Possible Extremist link being investigated

DALLAS, TEXAS (TIP): The Islamic State on Tuesday, May 5 claimed responsibility for Sunday’s attack by two gunmen outside Garland’s Curtis Culwell Center. But while the White House has called the assault an “act of terror,” officials said a possible connection to the extremist group remained under investigation.

Meanwhile, a federal law enforcement official said authorities had an open investigation of 31-year-old Elton Simpson at the time he and Nadir Soofi, 34, opened fire on police stationed outside the events center, which was hosting an anti-Islam gathering that included a contest for cartoons depicting the prophet Muhammad.

The official, who was not authorized to discuss the investigation and spoke on condition of anonymity, also said investigators will be studying contacts — in both the U.S. and abroad — that the men had prior to the shooting in order to determine any terror-related ties.

Simpson and Soofi, who were friends and roommates from Phoenix, stepped from a black Chevrolet car in body armor with assault weapons and began firing, hitting unarmed Garland ISD security officer Bruce Joiner in the ankle. A Garland police traffic officer and SWAT team members returned fire. Both gunmen were killed.

The Islamic State’s Al Bayan radio station later issued a bulletin saying that “two soldiers of the caliphate” carried out the attack. The statement expressed the hope that Simpson and Soofi would be granted “the highest rank of paradise.” And it warned: “We tell America that what is coming will be even bigger and more bitter, and that you will see the soldiers of the Islamic State do terrible things.”

But it provided few details about the attack, and White House spokesman Josh Earnest said it was too early to say if the Islamic State was involved.

Sen. Ted Cruz, who is seeking the GOP nomination for president, accused the Obama administration of bungling matters, arguing that federal officials should have intercepted the gunmen before they reached the anti-Muslim event in Garland.

“Once again, as with Nidal Hasan and the Tsarnaev brothers, we had radical Islamic terrorists who this administration knew about and yet failed to connect the dots and prevent this act of terrorism,” Cruz said.

Hasan’s November 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood and the Tsarnaevs’ Boston Marathon bombing reflect “the same evil” that was behind the attack in Garland, Cruz said.

ABC News reported that an Islamic State recruiter known online as “Miski” had been in close contact with Simpson for months before Sunday’s attack outside the gathering, which was sponsored by the New York-based American Freedom Defense Initiative and was framed as a free-speech event.

FBI officials say Miski is Muhammed Hassan, who has been a fugitive since 2009 when he fled Minneapolis as a teenager to join terror groups in Africa. In an April exchange about the cartoon contest, Simpson tweeted: “When will they ever learn?”

A few minutes later, Miski replied: “Where are the warriors of this Ummah [community]?” And then, referring to the January attack that killed 11 at a French satirical magazine: “The brothers from the Charlie Hebdo attack did their part. It’s time for brothers in the #US to do their part.”

    Tracing firearms

In Dallas, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives had little to say about the early stages of their investigations. The FBI’s Dallas office didn’t comment, and ATF spokesman Russ Morrison said the FBI and Garland police were handling the investigation, though he said the ATF is playing a supporting role.

Morrison said the ATF had traced the firearms used by the gunmen, but provided no additional information. NBC News cited law enforcement officials in reporting Tuesday that the guns were purchased legally.

Local Muslim leaders said the FBI hadn’t contacted them to ask about the gunmen.

“They were not part of our community,” said Imam Zia ul-Haque Sheikh, who leads the Islamic Center of Irving.

He said he wasn’t aware of anyone in the Dallas area helping the men, and added that he and the center have good relationships with the FBI. If he had details, he said he’d have “no reservations” about passing them on.

Imam Moujahed Bakhach of Arlington said he, too, hadn’t talked with the FBI, but would cooperate if the agency contacted him. The imam said he applauds law enforcement for stopping the gunmen, potentially saving lives.

“Don’t mess with Texas,” he said. “Texas is protected. All of us, we are together here.”

    Mayor’s reaction

Garland Mayor Douglas Athas, like many in his city, said he wished AFDI president Pamela Geller hadn’t picked Garland as the site for Sunday’s event.

“Certainly in hindsight, we as a community would be better off if she hadn’t,” Athas said Tuesday. “Her actions put my police officers, my citizens and others at risk. Her program invited an incendiary reaction. She picked my community, which does not support in any shape, passion or form, her ideology.

“But at the end of the day, we did our jobs,” he said. “We protected her freedoms and her life.”

The Culwell Center, which is owned by Garland ISD, will host as many as 200,000 visitors in the coming weeks for school graduations. Athas said he expects no problems.

“There is no safer place in the country right now. The truth is, when ISIS goes looking for a target in the United States, they’re not going to pick the Curtis Culwell Center,” he said, using another name for the Islamic State.

Garland ISD Superintendent Bob Morrison agreed.

“There’s nothing out there that’s given us any indication that the building itself is threatened,” Morrison said. “We have not had any indication from the FBI or Homeland Security or anyone else that there’s that kind of talk out there. And they would let us know.”

    Scene in Arizona

In Phoenix, the apartment complex where Simpson and Soofi lived was markedly quieter than it was Monday, when news trucks and media roamed the palm-tree-dotted premises in search of anyone who might have known the two. Apartment security officers were enforcing a no-trespassing policy and claimed to have had two members of the media arrested.

Meanwhile, the Council on American-Islamic Relations’ Arizona office issued a statement condemning the attack.

“Violence in response to anti-Islam programs … is more insulting to our faith than any cartoon, however defamatory,” CAIR’s statement read. “Bigoted speech can never be an excuse for violence.”

CAIR spokeswoman Kristy Sabbah said the agency had no knowledge of either Simpson or Soofi before the shooting and was working with local mosques to prevent such radicalism.

“Individuals with inflammatory rhetoric need to be reported immediately to law enforcement,” Sabbah said. “Individuals like these are not tolerated and will be asked to leave.”

Staff writers Ray Leszcynski and Michael E. Young reported from Dallas and Todd J. Gillman reported from Washington. Staff writers Naomi Martin and Kevin Krause in Dallas and Marc Ramirez and special contributor Dom DiFirio in Phoenix and The Associated Press contributed to this report.

    Center’s bag policy

Garland ISD on Tuesday announced a new policy for bags brought into the Curtis Culwell Center for graduation ceremonies. Although attendees are urged to leave purses and bags at home, the following will be allowed:

    – Clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bags no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches.

    – Clear 1-gallon zip-lock bags.

    – Clutch bags about the size of a hand and any medically necessary items are allowed upon inspection.

  • Texas House panel approves full legalization of marijuana

AUSTIN (TIP): In a surprise move that supporters hailed as a historic victory, the Texas House Criminal Jurisprudence Committee approved legislation Wednesday that would make it legal to buy and sell marijuana in the state.

Two Republicans joined with the panel’s three Democrats in support, giving House Bill 2165  a decisive 5-2 victory.

The proposal, which would make Texas the fifth state in America to OK pot for recreational purposes, has virtually no chance of clearing any other hurdles on the path to becoming law in this year’s legislative session.

Still, advocates described the committee vote as a big step toward future success.

“Marijuana policy reform continues to make unprecedented progress this session,” Phillip Martin of the liberal group Progress Texas tweeted just after the vote.

The move came just two days after the same panel voted 4-2 in favor of a bill to decriminalize marijuana, marking the first time such a proposal had made it out of a Texas legislative committee.

House Bill 2165, while more of a dramatic change, did even better Wednesday, drawing support from Republicans David Simpson of Longview and Todd Hunter of Corpus Christi. Committee chairman Abel Herrero, D-Robstown, vice chair Joe Moody, D-El Paso and member Terry Canales, D-Edinburg also voted in support.

Herrero said he had some reservations with the bill but would support it in the hopes it could be improved.

Simpson, a deeply conservative member supported by the tea party, sponsored the bill. In an opinion piece published last month, he explained that, “I don’t believe that when God made marijuana he made a mistake that government needs to fix.”

Plano Republicans Matt Shaheen and Jeff Leach voted no.

The final vote came after the committee tweaked the bill to make clear that marijuana would still be illegal to consume for minors, except with parental supervision.

It will next go to the committee that controls the state House floor calendar.
