Trump sues Wall Street Journal over Epstein report, seeks USD 10 billion

Denies WSJ report on Epstein birthday letter, govt wants Epstein grand jury transcripts made public

WASHINGTON, D.C. (TIP): US President Donald Trump sued the Wall Street Journal and its owners including Rupert Murdoch for at least USD 10 billion on Friday, over the newspaper’s report that his name was on a 2003 birthday greeting for Jeffrey Epstein that included a sexually suggestive drawing and a reference to secrets they shared, a Reuter report says.

The lawsuit filed in Miami federal court names Murdoch, Dow Jones, News Corp and its Chief Executive Robert Thomson, and two Wall Street Journal reporters as defendants, saying they defamed Trump and caused him to suffer “overwhelming” financial and reputational harm.

Epstein, the disgraced financier and sex offender, died by suicide in a New York jail cell in 2019.

His case has generated conspiracy theories that became popular among Trump’s base of supporters who believed the government was covering up Epstein’s ties to the rich and powerful.

Trump has said he parted ways with Epstein before the financier’s legal troubles became public in 2006.

The president has vehemently denied the Journal report, which Reuters has not verified, and had warned Murdoch that he planned to sue. Dow Jones, the parent of the newspaper, is a division of News Corp.

“We have just filed a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, defamatory, FAKE NEWS ‘article’ in the useless ‘rag’ that is, The Wall Street Journal,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“I hope Rupert and his ‘friends’ are looking forward to the many hours of depositions and testimonies they will have to provide in this case,” Trump added.

A spokesperson for Dow Jones said in a statement: “We have full confidence in the rigor and accuracy of our reporting, and will vigorously defend against any lawsuit.” The lawsuit called Trump’s alleged birthday greeting “fake,” and said the Journal published its article to harm Trump’s reputation.

“Tellingly, the Article does not explain whether Defendants have obtained a copy of the letter, have seen it, have had it described to them, or any other circumstances that would otherwise lend credibility to the Article,” the lawsuit said.

To prevail on his defamation claims, Trump must show the defendants acted with “actual malice,” meaning they knew the article was false or acted with reckless disregard for its truth.

A $10 billion award would far exceed the largest defamation judgments and settlements in recent history.

These include a $1.5 billion judgment against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, and Fox News’ settlement with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million.

“Ten billion dollars is a ridiculously high number,” said Jesse Gessin, a lawyer with experience in defamation and First Amendment litigation. “It would be the largest defamation verdict in US history.”

    WHITE HOUSE ROILED

The Epstein affair has increasingly disquieted the White House, after the Justice Department this month concluded that there was no evidence to support long-held conspiracy theories about his clients and death.

Some of Trump’s most loyal followers became furious after his administration reversed course on its promise to release files on Epstein.

A Justice Department memo released on July 7 concluded that Epstein killed himself and said there was “no incriminating client list” or evidence that Epstein blackmailed prominent people.

With pressure to release the Epstein files building, Trump on Thursday said he directed Attorney General Pam Bondi to ask a court to release grand jury testimony about Epstein.

The US government on Friday filed a motion in Manhattan federal court to unseal grand jury transcripts in the cases of Epstein and former associate Ghislaine Maxwell.

She was convicted in 2021 of five federal charges related to her role in Epstein’s sexual abuse of underage girls. Maxwell is appealing her conviction and 20-year prison sentence to the US Supreme Court. “Public officials, lawmakers, pundits, and ordinary citizens remain deeply interested and concerned about the Epstein matter,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said in the filing. “After all, Jeffrey Epstein is the most infamous pedophile in American history.”

Blanche said prosecutors would work to redact all victim-identifying information before making anything public.

The release of the grand jury documents may fall short of what many of Trump’s supporters have sought, including case files held by the administration, and a judge may reject the administration’s request to make the transcripts public.

    BAWDY LETTER

The Journal said the letter bearing Trump’s name was part of a leather-bound birthday book for Epstein that included messages from other high-profile people.

It also said the letter contained several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appeared to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker.

The newspaper said the letter concluded “Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret,” and featured the signature “Donald.”

Allegations that Epstein sexually abused girls became public in 2006, after the birthday book was allegedly produced, and he was arrested that year before accepting a plea deal.

Epstein died just over a month after he was arrested for a second time and charged with sex-trafficking conspiracy. Trump was photographed with Epstein multiple times in social situations in the 1990s and early 2000s, and had been a neighbor of Epstein’s in Florida.

He was quoted in 2002 in New York magazine as saying, “I’ve known Jeff for 15 years. Terrific guy. He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.” In 2019, Trump told reporters that he and Epstein had a “falling out” before the financier was first arrested.

Trump said he “knew him like everybody in Palm Beach knew him” but that “I had a falling out with him. I haven’t spoken to him in 15 years. I was not a fan of his, that I can tell you.”

Nimisha Priya execution: Won’t grant pardon, says family of Yemeni victim

MALAPPURAM / NEW YORK (TIP): The family of Talal Abdo Mahdi, the deceased Yemeni national, remains firm in their demand for retribution even as attempts to convince them to pardon Kerala nurse Nimisha Priya are under way.

An intervention by All India Jamiyyathul Ulama general secretary and Sunni leader Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliar through his close friend and respected Yemeni Sufi scholar Sheikh Habib Omar bin Hafiz had positive results, with the Yemeni authorities postponing the July 16 execution of Nimisha Priya.

Mr. Musliar said talks had been under way with Talal’s family to persuade them to pardon Nimisha Priya, despite their strong desire for retribution.

However, social media posts purportedly by Talal’s brother Abdul Fatah Mahdi indicated the family’s resolute stance on retribution as per the Islamic law rather than accepting the blood money and pardon Nimisha Priya.

Mr. Fatah Mahdi said, “justice would prevail” and affirmed that “retribution would come regardless of any delays in the execution.”

In a separate post, he said the family would not grant pardon to Nimisha Priya “in spite of interventions by anybody.”

Mr. Fatah Mahdi ended his post saying, “the pens have been lifted, and the papers have been dried”, an Arabic idiom meaning the matter has been settled forever. This phrase is interpreted as the family’s resolution to ensure retribution.

According to sources in Yemen, the family insists on “implementing God’s law in Quisas,” which means retribution in kind as per the Islamic law, instead of pardoning and accepting the blood money called ‘diya’.

Meanwhile, certain people opposing Mr. Musliar on ideological, organizational and political grounds have further complicated the situation.

They have been fueling the controversy by posting negative comments on social media, specifically targeting Talal’s family members. These online comments have likely exacerbated tensions, contributing to the complexity of the issue.

They launched personal attacks on Mr. Musliar while persuading Talal’s family to reject Nimisha Priya’s pardon. In their comments, they argued that accepting blood money would “tarnish the family’s reputation and dishonor Talal’s memory.”

  • India, US teams conclude 5th round of talks on proposed trade pact: Official

India, US teams conclude 5th round of talks on proposed trade pact: Official

NEW DELHI / WASHINGTON, D.C. (TIP): India and the US teams have concluded the fifth round of talks for the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) in Washington on July 17, an official said.

The negotiations were held for four days (July 14-17) in Washington.

“The Indian team is coming back,” the official said. India’s chief negotiator and special secretary in the Department of Commerce Rajesh Agrawal led the team for negotiations.

These deliberations are important as both sides are looking at finalizing an interim trade deal before August 1, which marks the end of the suspension period of Trump tariffs imposed on dozens of countries, including India (26 per cent).

On April 2 this year, US President Donald Trump announced these high reciprocal tariffs. The implementation of high tariffs was immediately suspended for 90 days till July 9 and later until August 1, as America is negotiating trade deals with various countries.

Issues related to agriculture and automobiles are learnt to have figured during the fifth round of negotiations. Matters related to ways to deal with non-market economies, and SCOMET (Special Chemicals, Organisms, Materials, Equipment, and Technologies) also came up for discussion.

On the possibility for an interim trade agreement before August 1, an official has recently stated, “We are not differentiating between an interim or the first phase of the bilateral trade agreement. We are negotiating a complete deal. Whatever will be finished (agreed upon), we can package it as an interim deal and for the rest, talks will continue”.

India has hardened its position on the US demand for duty concessions on agri and dairy products. New Delhi has, so far, not given any duty concessions to any of its trading partners in a free trade agreement in the dairy sector. Certain farmers’ associations have urged the government not to include any issues related to agriculture in the trade pact.

India is seeking the removal of this additional tariff (26 per cent). It is also seeking the easing of tariffs on steel and aluminum (50 per cent) and the auto sector (25 per cent).

These issues are an important part of the trade pact negotiations, the official said.

Against these, India has reserved its right under the WTO (World Trade Organization) norms to impose retaliatory duties. The country is also seeking duty concessions for labor-intensive sectors, such as textiles, gems and jewelry, leather goods, garments, plastics, chemicals, shrimp, oil seeds, grapes, and bananas, in the proposed trade pact.

On the other hand, the US wants duty concessions on certain industrial goods, automobiles, especially electric vehicles, wines, petrochemical products, agri goods, dairy items, apples, tree nuts, and genetically modified crops.

The two countries are looking to conclude talks for the first tranche of the proposed bilateral trade agreement (BTA) by fall (September-October) this year. Before that, they are looking for an interim trade pact.

India’s merchandise exports to the US rose 22.8 per cent to USD 25.51 billion in the April-June quarter this fiscal year, while imports rose 11.68 per cent to USD 12.86 billion.

  • ‘Trump missile’ fired 24th time, PM must make statement in Parliament: Congress

‘Trump missile’ fired 24th time, PM must make statement in Parliament: Congress

NEW DELHI (TIP): With US President Donald Trump once again repeating his claims about the India-Pakistan conflict, the Congress on Saturday, July 19, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should now himself make a clear and categorical statement in Parliament on the American leader’s claims over the last 70 days, says a PTI report.

The opposition party’s assertion came after Trump reportedly said, “We stopped a lot of wars. And these were serious, India and Pakistan, that was going on. Planes were being shot down in the air. I think five jets were shot down, actually.”

“…But India and Pakistan were going at it, and they were back and forth, and it was getting bigger and bigger, and we got it solved through trade. We said, you guys want to make a trade deal. We’re not making a trade deal if you’re going to be throwing around weapons, and maybe nuclear weapons, both very powerful nuclear states,” the US President reportedly said.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said just two days before the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins, “the Trump missile gets fired” for the 24th time with the same two messages.

He pointed out that Trump has again stated that the US stopped the war between India and Pakistan, two countries that have nuclear weapons.
Justice Vibhu Bakhru sworn in as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court’
View More right-arrow. The US President also reiterated his remarks that there would be no trade deal if the war continued, he said.

Trump stated that if India and Pakistan want a trade agreement with the US, they have to agree to an immediate ceasefire, Ramesh pointed out.

“The sensational new revelation by President Trump this time around is that five jets may have been downed,” Ramesh said.

“The prime minister, who has had years of friendship and huglomacy with President Trump going back to Howdy Modi in September 2019 and Namaste Trump in February 2020, has to now himself make a clear and categorical statement in Parliament on what President Trump has been claiming over the past 70 days,” the Congress leader said.

The Congress has been demanding that Modi must answer President Trump’s India-Pakistan “ceasefire” claims in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha during the forthcoming Monsoon session of Parliament.

Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire after a long night of talks mediated by Washington, he has repeated his claim on several occasions that he helped settle the tensions between India and Pakistan.

However, India has been consistently maintaining that the understanding on cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was reached following direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries.

In a nearly 35-minute phone call with Trump last month, Modi firmly stated that India does not and will “never accept” mediation and that the discussions between Indian and Pakistani militaries on cessation of military actions were initiated at Islamabad’s request.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians.

India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes.

  • India-US trade deal progressing as per terms of reference, says govt official

New Delhi (TIP) – The Indo-US trade deal is progressing as per the terms of reference decided between the two countries, commerce ministry officials said on Tuesday. Giving an update on the negotiations, the ministry said that a team of India negotiators is in the US for carrying out the fifth round of negotiations on the bilateral trade agreement.
“The first round of negotiations took place when the US team visited India last week of March. We finalized terms of negotiations thereafter, and the negotiations have been going thereafter. Two rounds of discussions were held when India visited the US in April and May. Then in June, again, the United States team came to India, and we had the fourth round of discussions and negotiations on the bilateral trade agreement,” said chief negotiator and commerce secretary-designate Rajesh Agarwal.
Agarwal refused to speak on any specific details of the negotiations between the two countries. India is hoping to close a limited trade deal by 1 August 2025, when the extended deadline for implementation of reciprocal tariff ends. The US has already announced the revised reciprocal tariff rates for two dozen countries. The revised rates are in the 25-40% range. New tariff for India has not been announced yet.
The trade data released by the commerce ministry showed that despite the 10% reciprocal tariff imposed by the US, India’s exports to the US has jumped by a healthy 22% in April-June quarter, while imports from the country have increased by 12% during the same period. Explaining the growth in exports to the US despite a 10% baseline reciprocal tariff imposed by the US, another commerce ministry official said except for a 10% baseline tariff, no other tariff is there for countries across the world barring China, which has got a higher tariff of 40%.

  • Reliance Retail acquires Kelvinator to expand appliance business

Reliance Industries announced on Friday, July 18, that its arm, Reliance Retail, has acquired home appliance brand Kelvinator to grow its presence in the booming consumer durables market, reported The Economic Times.
Reliance did not reveal how much it paid for Kelvinator. However, the company said that bringing Kelvinator under its umbrella will help it mix its wide retail network with the trust and quality that Kelvinator has built over the years. Kelvinator is a name that many Indian households still remember fondly. The brand first became popular in the country in the 1970s and ’80s with its catchy tagline, “The Coolest One.”
Over the years, it has earned a reputation for making reliable, durable, and affordable appliances.
Isha M Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL), said that the company’s mission has always been to meet the varied needs of every Indian by making technology accessible, relevant, and future-ready, the report mentioned.
She added that acquiring Kelvinator is a key step that will help Reliance offer trusted global products to Indian customers, backed by its vast scale, strong service network, and wide distribution reach.

  • Spike in imports raises trade diversion concerns

India has initiated investigations into an unusual spike in a month in imports of over a dozen products from countries including China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Nepal, even as the world witnesses large-scale trade diversion because of the US tariff barriers, government officials said.
At least 14 products are under the scanner, including different chemicals, steel tubes, various types of glasses, jute items and paperboards, said a commerce ministry official who asked not to be named.
“Industry bodies, sectoral ministries and government agencies are on high alert to report any unusual import surge due to trade diversion. Based on their inputs, the government will conduct an investigation and take remedial action immediately to protect domestic units,” he added.
There has been a sharp 35% decline in Chinese exports to its biggest market, the US in May after the Trump administration announced “ Liberation Day” tariffs from April 5.

  • Tesla cruises into India, with Mumbai as first stop for its Model Y variant

Tesla cruises into India, with Mumbai as first stop for its Model Y variant

Mumbai (TIP)- ELON MUSK’S Tesla, the global electric vehicle (EV) giant, made its official entry into India July 15, launching its first showroom in Mumbai and showcasing its Model Y SUV. Inaugurating the showroom in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said: “This is not just the inauguration of an experience centre but a statement that Tesla has arrived, in the right city and state, that is Mumbai, Maharashtra. Mumbai stands for innovation and sustainability.”
The entry marks a close to a long-winding, topsy-turvy journey around Tesla’s touted entry in India’s nascent and slowly growing EV market, after the company criticised India for having high import duties.
The Model Y SUV will come in two variants: the standard rear-wheel drive option with a claimed range of 500 km, priced at close to Rs 60 lakh, and a long range version with a claimed range of 622 km, which would cost close to Rs 70 lakh. Deliveries are expected to begin from the final quarter of 2025. The car can be registered in Delhi, Gurugram and Mumbai.
Tesla Model Y will also be able to be upgraded to full self-driving capabilities in the future, which would cost an extra Rs 6 lakh. “The activation and use of these features are dependent on achieving reliability far in excess of human drivers as demonstrated by billions of miles of experience, as well as regulatory approval, which may take longer in some jurisdictions. As these self-driving features evolve, your car will be continuously upgraded through over-the-air software updates,” Tesla said.
Incidentally, the car is twice as expensive in India compared to the US, where it costs around $38,000 (roughly Rs 33 lakh), owing to India’s high import duty on completely built units (CBUs). Tesla has no plans of manufacturing in India for the time being, Union Heavy Industries Minister H D Kumaraswamy had said last month.
The announcement of one of its models marks a close to the long-awaited entry of Tesla into India, after founder Elon Musk had criticised the country’s high import duty structure. In 2021, responding to queries on social media about Tesla’s launch in India, he had said, “We want to do so, but import duties are the highest in the world by far of any large country!” Import duties in India for such cars can go as high as 110 per cent.
In 2016, Musk had announced that pre-bookings for its Model 3 would be available for customers from many countries outside North America, including India. Soon, many customers in India put up a refundable deposit of $1,000 (approximately Rs 85,000 at current exchange rate). However, earlier this year, the company initiated refunds to those who had paid the reservation fee as the Model 3 has been discontinued.
After receiving complaints about the high duty structure, the government last year released a new EV policy, easing duty for a limited number of imports for manufacturers setting up facilities here with a minimum investment of Rs 4,150 crore. This was largely seen as an attempt to woo Tesla.
In turn, they will be eligible to import a maximum of 8,000 CBUs of electric four-wheelers per year, with a minimum import value of $35,000 at a reduced Customs duty of 15 per cent for a five-year period. The scheme is limited to global manufacturers with a revenue of at least Rs 10,000 crore per year, with fixed assets valued at a minimum of Rs 3,000 crore.
Currently, the customs duty on cars imported as CBUs is either 60 per cent or 100 per cent, depending on engine size and whether the cost, insurance, and freight (CIF) value is higher or lower than $40,000. Where the car costs $40,000 or more, the duty is 100 per cent; a cheaper car attracts 60 per cent.
In 2021, Tesla had written to nodal central ministries seeking a reduction in import duties on fully assembled cars and had asked for duties to be cut to 40-15 per cent depending on the price of the car. The new policy effectively fulfills that demand.

  • Samsung fixes major Secure Folder bug, hidden apps no longer at risk

Samsung fixes major Secure Folder bug, hidden apps no longer at risk

If you’ve ever used a Samsung phone, chances are you’ve relied on the Secure Folder to store sensitive apps, files, or photos away from prying eyes. It’s one of those features you don’t think twice about — until something goes wrong. And earlier this year, something did. A flaw in how Samsung’s Secure Folder worked meant that someone who had your phone in hand could technically peek into what apps and media you had hidden, even if they couldn’t open them. Not ideal. Thankfully, with its latest One UI 8 update, Samsung has patched the issue and improved how Secure Folder behaves under the hood.
According to a report by the Android Authority, the problem wasn’t with the lock or password itself, but rather with how the Secure Folder was set up within Android’s system. It was originally built using Android’s “work profile” — a feature meant for separating work apps and data on a phone. While that setup worked in most cases, it created a blind spot. Some parts of Android, particularly Google’s Photo Picker and Permission Controller, didn’t treat the Secure Folder as a truly private space. That meant they could unintentionally reveal details like which apps were inside or even show certain media files, all without actually unlocking the folder.
Samsung’s fix? Reclassifying the Secure Folder to use Android’s new “private” profile system — a feature that arrived with Android 15 and is part of Google’s broader Private Space initiative. By doing this, Samsung ensures the folder is properly treated as a secure, isolated environment, even by system-level tools that aren’t directly part of One UI. In short, this change makes the Secure Folder truly hidden again, not just locked away, but fully shielded from other parts of the phone unless actively opened by the user.
It’s worth noting that this extra protection only kicks in when you hide the Secure Folder, not just close it. Hiding it encrypts its contents and stops its apps from running or sending notifications — essentially putting the folder in lockdown. So if you’re serious about privacy, make sure to take that extra step.
There is still one downside, though. Samsung hasn’t yet made the Secure Folder play nicely with third-party launchers like Niagara or Nova Launcher. That’s a bit frustrating, especially now that Google has added support for Private Space integration in Android 15. Whether Samsung plans to follow suit is unclear for now.
Still, this update is an important move in the right direction. For anyone who counts on their Secure Folder for an extra layer of privacy, it’s a welcome fix.

  • Alien environment on saturn’s biggest moon may support building blocks of life

Alien environment on saturn’s biggest moon may support building blocks of life

NASA revealed that cell-like compartments, known as vesicles, could form naturally in the lakes of Saturn’s moon Titan. The lakes on Saturn’s largest moon are filled with liquid hydrocarbons like ethane and methane. These vesicles are vital for the development of protocells, which are simple structures that can support chemical reactions.
Titan’s environment is different from Earth’s as it has extremely low temperatures and a thick atmosphere, containing nitrogen and methane. Scientists believe that it could allow the formation of life forms that are distinct from those on Earth.
According to research published on July 10 in the journal International Journal of Astrobiology, the formation of vesicles on Titan is thought to occur through the interaction of amphiphiles, which are molecules that have both “methane-loving” and “methane-avoiding” properties. These molecules can form bilayer structures that resemble cell membranes.
“The existence of any vesicles on Titan would demonstrate an increase in order and complexity, which are conditions necessary for the origin of life,” Conor Nixon of NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center said in a statement.
“We’re excited about these new ideas because they can open up new directions in Titan research and may change how we search for life on Titan in the future.”
Scientists believe that vesicles might form on Titan when methane raindrops splash onto the surface of lakes and seas, creating a mist of droplets coated in amphiphiles. These droplets can then settle back onto the lake and form vesicles.

  • Google is combining ChromeOS and Android

Google is combining ChromeOS and Android

After years of speculation, Google has finally confirmed that it is working to bring ChromeOS and Android together. In a conversation with TechRadar, Sameer Samat, President of the Android Ecosystem at Google, revealed for the first time that a full merger is in progress. While there’s still no official timeline, this announcement signals a significant shift in how Google approaches software across laptops, tablets, and phones. Here’s everything you need to know about the plan – in five key points.
Sameer Samat, a senior Google executive, has confirmed that the company is working to combine its two operating systems – Android and ChromeOS – into a single unified platform. This is the first time a Google official has openly acknowledged such a move. “We’re going to be combining ChromeOS and Android into a single platform,” Samat said when asked about his interest in cross-device usage, especially among Apple users. His comment confirms long-running rumours dating back to late 2024, when reports first suggested the company was planning a multi-year project to bring the systems together.
Why Google is doing this now
The goal of merging the two systems is to create a more seamless experience across devices, from laptops and tablets to smartphones. By unifying Android and ChromeOS, Google can simplify its software offerings, improve compatibility across form factors, and better compete with Apple’s ecosystem. Samat’s interest in how people use their laptops highlights the company’s focus on everyday productivity and the growing overlap between desktop and mobile computing.
It has already begun, and AI is part of the plan
While the merger is now official, the groundwork was laid months ago. In early 2024, Google began merging parts of the Android kernel into ChromeOS, in a move designed to speed up AI feature rollouts. By aligning the systems at a technical level, Google hopes to bring more advanced AI capabilities, like those seen in Pixel devices, to Chromebooks and Android tablets. The merger now seems like a natural next step in that direction.
What this means for future Chromebooks and Android devices
If all goes as planned, we could soon see Chromebooks that run this new unified OS, with better Android app compatibility and stronger integration with Android phones. A leaked internal project, codenamed “Snowy,” even hints at a Pixel-branded laptop that could debut the new software experience. On the Android side, the upcoming Android 16 update is set to introduce a desktop mode with multi-window multitasking on external screens, further blurring the line between mobile and desktop experiences.
Don’t expect it all to happen at once
While this is a major shift for Google, the transition won’t be immediate. The company hasn’t announced a rollout date, and reports suggest the platform is still in early development. It’s unlikely we’ll hear anything concrete at the rumoured mid-August Pixel 10 launch event. For now, this is a long-term play, but one that could dramatically change how Android and ChromeOS users experience their devices in the years to come.

  • Subtle signs you’re not eating enough vegetables

Subtle signs you’re not eating enough vegetables

We all know vegetables are essential for good health—but even if you’re eating some, you might not be eating enough. A lack of vegetables in your diet can show up in surprising (and not-so-subtle) ways. Here are some signs your body may be telling you it’s time to pile more greens on your plate.
    Low Mood
Vegetables are an important source of numerous vitamins and minerals needed for the body’s critical functions. She added that not eating enough vegetables and focusing mainly on high-fat, high-carb or highly processed foods will result in getting a burst of energy followed by a crash, resulting in fatigue, memory loss and mood swings. Swapping these high-fat foods for more nutrient-dense foods like vegetables will prevent you from feeling that crash. It will also give you sustained energy for a longer period of time. Similarly, the vitamins and minerals found in vegetables can play an important role in your mood regulation. Some studies suggest that there is a relationship between diet and mood and diets low in fruits and vegetables are associated with higher risk for depression.
    Easily Feeling Hungry
Adequate fiber from veggies helps increase satiety, keeping you fuller for longer while helping sustain energy. She also added that by not eating enough vegetables, you may be craving another meal or snack shortly after the food that you just consumed.
    Dull Skin
Vsegetables are loaded with antioxidants that can help protect your body from free radicals, which may damage skin texture. The author of “The Small Change Diet” added that many veggies like tomatoes are packed with water, which can be hydrating for the skin.
    Muscle Cramps
Muscles need enough potassium for smooth muscle contraction and that muscle cramps and twitches can happen due to extremely low blood levels of the mineral. Fsruits and vegetables are the best sources of potassium. The best vegetable sources of potassium include spinach, swiss chard and other dark leafy greens, in addition to sweet potatoes.
    Constipation
Enough dietary fiber from vegetables helps in adding more bulk to waste and helps move waste more quickly through the intestines.
    High Stress
Magnesium helps promote relaxation by maintaining healthy levels of GABA, a neurotransmitter that calms both the body and mind. This mineral also plays a role in the body’s stress response system and that deficiency of it is linked to higher stress and anxiety. Veggies, especially dark leafy greens like spinach, are one of the best sources of magnesium. So, not getting enough veggies in your diet could certainly cause low blood levels of this mineral.

  • Habits that can help ease inflammation

Habits that can help ease inflammation

Inflammation is your body’s natural response to injury, infection, or harmful substances. Redness, heat, swelling and pain are a few signs of inflammation. While short-term inflammation is beneficial for healing, long-term inflammation can disrupt healthy bodily functions and increase the risk of developing these chronic illnesses.
Here, we have a list of healthy everyday habits that can help reduce inflammation.
    Eat right
Several foods are naturally loaded with anti-inflammatory properties. Berries, turmeric, garlic, ginger, leafy greens, olive oil, dark chocolate and nuts and seeds are a few to name. Additionally, foods rich in antioxidants and omega-3 fatty acids can help lower inflammation. Also, limit consumption of processed and sugary foods.
    Drink enough water
Dehydration can cause the body to retain toxins, leading to inflammation. Hydrate well throughout the day to flush out waste and maintain healthy blood circulation. Aim for at least eight glasses of water a day, and more if you’re active or in a hot climate.
    Exercise
Regular exercise is crucial for your health and overall well-being in more ways than one. Engaging in moderate physical activity several times a week can help reduce inflammation.
    Get adequate sleep
Sleep deprivation raises inflammatory markers and weakens the immune system. Quality sleep for 7-9 hours each night allows the body to repair and rejuvenate, reducing inflammation.
    Manage stress
Excess cortisol levels can exacerbate inflammation. Techniques such as mindfulness, meditation, yoga, or simply taking time to relax can help balance stress levels and reduce inflammatory responses.

  • How seasonal changes impact your digestive health

How seasonal changes impact your digestive health

The rainy season may bring cooler weather and scenic views, but it also increases the risk of gut problems like bloating, nausea, and infections. Doctors say the combination of high humidity, contaminated food or water, and poor hygiene habits can upset digestion and lead to uncomfortable symptoms.
    WHY MONSOON AFFECTS DIGESTION
“Digestion tends to slow down during the monsoon,” says Dr. Adarsh CK, chief consultant gastroenterologist at Gleneagles BGS Hospital, Bengaluru. “Humidity and cooler temperatures reduce gastric motility, meaning food stays in the stomach longer. This leads to bloating and discomfort after meals.” Dr. Divya Gopal, consultant, internal medicine at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, Mumbai, adds that “bloating and nausea often originate from consuming contaminated food or water.” She explains that damp weather increases bacterial and fungal growth, making food spoil faster.
Even without an obvious infection, the gut can react. “Sometimes the stomach just feels off, or there’s a lingering fullness,” says Dr. H. Guru Prasad, Head of General Medicine at CARE Hospitals, Hyderabad. “Spoiled or poorly stored food can irritate the stomach even if it looks fine.”
WHAT TO EAT AND WHAT TO AVOID
Doctors agree that warm, fresh meals are easier to digest during the monsoon than raw or oily foods.
“Street food and raw salads should ideally be avoided during this time, as they’re harder to clean thoroughly,” says Dr. Adarsh. He recommends warm, home-cooked meals with natural digestive aids. “Adding cumin, ginger, or ajwain to meals can offer some natural support.”
Dr. Divya suggests sticking to light, nourishing foods. “Choose soups, steamed dishes, or khichdi. Avoid oily or spicy foods, which can overburden the stomach. Probiotic-rich foods like yogurt or fermented rice help maintain good gut bacteria.”

  • Cool beauty: How ice rolling transforms your skin

Cool beauty: How ice rolling transforms your skin

If you’re looking for a simple yet effective way to improve your skin’s health and appearance, an ice roller might just be the skincare tool you need. Easy to use, affordable, and surprisingly powerful, this cooling device offers a wide range of skin benefits. Whether you’re dealing with puffiness, inflammation, or just want a natural glow, here’s why incorporating an ice roller into your routine can be a game-changer.
    What Is an Ice Roller?
An ice roller is a handheld tool with a rolling head that can be chilled in the freezer. It’s typically made from stainless steel or gel-filled plastic and is rolled over the skin to provide a soothing, cold therapy. Think of it as a facial massage and cryotherapy in one compact device.
    Makes Your Skin Look Youthful
Wonder how do these Bollywood celebrities have such youthful skin? Well, ice therapy it is! Ice tightens your skin and prevents it from sagging. Using an ice roller is the best way to keep your skin tight and beautiful. Also, ice helps in preventing signs of ageing like wrinkles and fine lines.
    Reduces Puffiness On Face
If you wake up with a puffy face like me everyday then ice roller is your best friend! If your face or under eyes look puffy in the morning then using an ice roller can help in reducing puffiness on the face. Also, ice rolling first thing in the morning makes your skin feel fresh.
    Shrinks Pores
Open, big pores make your skin look dull. When you have open pores, dust and dirt start to accumulate and this leads to breakouts. To shrink face pores, you need ice therapy. Ice rolling helps in shrinking the pores which further prevents dirt and makeup clogging your skin.
    Reduces Acne Redness
Usually, acne breakout makes your skin go red and it can also lead to itching. Using an ice roller helps in reducing this redness and it also calms your skin.
Gives You A Defined Jaw Line
If no Yoga asanas or exercises are helping you get that defined jawline then try ice rolling. When using it, make sure you concentrate on your jaw. Regular usage can help you get a more defined jaw.
    Relieves Stress
Stress is one big reason why our skin looks dull and tired. Ice rolling is a quick fix.
It helps in relieving stress and it makes your skin feel super fresh and soft.
    Prevents Inflammation
Inflammation can lead to a lot of skin issues like acne and premature ageing. Ice roller helps in reducing inflammation, you should be using it everyday.
    Tones Face Muscles
Just like the rest of our body, our face muscles also need some toning. Some ice rolling can tone up your face muscles and make your face look more defined.

  • Dust smarter, not harder: Tips for effortless home dusting

Dust smarter, not harder: Tips for effortless home dusting

Dusting your home can feel like a never-ending chore—but it doesn’t have to be. With a few smart strategies and the right tools, you can cut your cleaning time in half and keep your home fresher, longer. Here are 10 practical tips to make dusting easier, faster, and more effective.
    Ceiling Fans & Light Fixtures
Don’t just take a normal cloth duster and place the ladder to clean ceiling fans or light fixtures. You can lose balance and if you are not tall enough, it makes things more difficult. So instead get a bendable duster. The advantage here is that you can bend the duster and clean. Once you are done cleaning, remove the microfiber cover and put it in the machine to wash.
    Walls
You may not have realised this but your walls too accumulate dust other than the spider webs. Wipe your fingers on your wall and see the shade difference. So dusting your walls is important especially when they are light in colour. Don’t just take a broom and clean as that makes them dirtier. Take a flat head mop, a microfiber cloth and spray on some water on it. Make a ‘W’ pattern while cleaning as this will save your time and you will be able to cover more space.
    Door Frames, Corners & Moldings
Cleaning door frames can be a task and this is where you see a lot of spiderwebs as well. Take an old sock that has lost elasticity or you don’t use it and pout it on a pole and swipe from end to end. It will be clean in no time.
    Delicate Antiques & Showpieces
Spray some water on a small paintbrush or a makeup brush and clean the delicate areas of your antique pieces or carved decor items.
    Bathroom Vents
This is one place that accumulates a lot of dust and grime. Clean them with a vacuum cleaner with the brush attached to it and watch all the dust vanish.
    Dusting Direction
Dust falls from top to bottom so first always clean the highest point. Another way is spiral cleaning where you go clockwise especially on moldings and painting frames.
    Microfiber Cloths
Ditch those cotton rags and get your hands on microfiber cloths. They lessen the cleaning time and do a thorough job. These cloths are electrostatically charged, so they attract dust. They are highly absorbent and give you streak-free surfaces.

Now 59, Salman admits doing action scenes is getting more difficult each year; ‘Earlier, I would train in 1-2 weeks’

Salman Khan has been one of the foremost action stars of Hindi cinema over the last 20 years. Ever since his second innings with Wanted and Dabangg, the actor has given some of the biggest action hits and franchises in Bollywood history. But he admits that it is now getting tougher ‘every year, every month, every day’.
On July 16, the actor spoke to the press on the sidelines of an event in Mumbai, and addressed his upcoming film, Battle of Galwan. The much-anticipated war film is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict between India and China and is helmed by Apoorva Lakhia. Talking about the intense action in the film, Salman said, “It is physically demanding. Every year, every month, every day it gets more and more difficult. I’ve to give more time now (for training). Earlier, I would do it (train) in one or two weeks, now I’m running, kicking, punching, and all that stuff. This film demands that.”
The actor said he was excited to do the film, which he announced early in July. “When I was signing the film, I thought it was amazing, but it’s a very, very difficult film to do. I’ve 20 days (of work) in Ladakh and then seven to eight days (of shoot) in cold water. We will be shooting this month,” the 59-year-old actor added.
The actor was speaking on the sidelines of a press event for the season two of Indian Supercross Racing League (ISRL). The actor also confirmed that Battle of Galwan will not release on Eid, as his biggest films traditionally do. It is, instead, set for a January release next year. • Turbaned tornado who redefined human limits

Turbaned tornado who redefined human limits

Veteran marathon runner Fauja Singh, who had completed a full marathon at the age of 100 thus becoming the oldest person to be doing so, died on Monday, July 14, after being hit by an unidentified vehicle at his native Beas village in Punjab’s Jalandhar district. He was 114.
Fauja Singh, fondly called ‘Turbaned Tornado’, turned 114 on April 1 this year and had run a total of nine full marathons in his career spanning 14 years (2000 to 2013). He became the face of Adidas campaign ‘Impossible is Nothing’ which also included boxing legend Muhammad Ali and football legend David Beckham.
Born in Beas village on April 1, 1911, Fauja Singh was the youngest of four children in a farming family. It was in 1993 that he immigrated to England to be with one of his sons after his wife Gian Kaur’s death. “I was very weak as a child. I had faced trouble walking till the age of five years but then as I spent time at the farm and with the support of my family and waheguru, I started walking,” Singh had told a media outlet a few years ago.
During his time in England, Singh started long walks and running in public parks near his Ilford home. After coming in contact with marathon coach Harmander Singh, Fauja Singh competed in the London Marathon in April 2000 at the age of 89 and completed it in 6 hours and 54 minutes, bettering the earlier world record in the senior age category by 58 minutes. “Prior to the London Marathon, he would train in any kind of weather. There was one charity called Bliss, which raised money for newborn kids and during his whole career, he always supported charities across the world,” Harmander told The Indian Express over phone from England.
“When I met Fauja Singh, he did not know about a marathon being 42.195-km-long. He used to run in 20-km events. He had come in a suit to meet me to train and I gave him my track suit. Within six months, he ran his first London Marathon in April 2000. He went on to run nine marathons within 11 years of his career, making him one of the greatest marathon runners in the world. His loss is a loss to the whole running community as well the world,” Harmander Singh said.
From 2000 to 2012, Fauja Singh ran London Marathon six times, Toronto Marathon twice and New York Marathon once.
Author Khushwant Singh, who had written his biography ‘Turbaned Tornado’, shared his memories of Fauja Singh. “Babe ne hamesha duniya nu dita hi hai (Baba always gave something to this world). He always used to support charities across the world. I first met him in 2005 when I was writing my book, ‘Sikhs Unlimited’. It was a huge thing at that time when he became the poster boy for Adidas campaign. When we released the biography in 2011 at House of Lords in London, Fauja Baba was excited that his story would reach the world. With his feats, he wrote his name in history. Once we were in Australia, people honoured him with dollars. He collected that money and put it in the Gurdwara ‘golak’ (offering box),” Khushwant said.
Fauja Singh was given the British Empire Medal for his services to sport and charity in 2015. He was awarded the Ellis Island Medal of Honour by the National Ethnic Coalition in 2013 in the US apart from being the one of the torchbearers for the London Olympics. “He met Queen Elizabeth II many times and always shared his views about fitness and giving back to society through a translator,” Harmander said.
In 2011, Fauja Singh ran the Toronto Marathon at the age of 100 and clocked 8 hours and 11 minutes. The next year he ran his last marathon in London, clocking 7 hours, 49 minutes and 21 seconds. Later, Fauja Singh ran in the 10-km category in marathons with the Hongkong event in 2013 being his last international participation. Fauja Singh also competed in the 10-km category in the Lahore marathon once and his feat was lauded by then Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf.
His son Harvinder remembered his father’s love for running. “He said the open air and soil kept his body alive,” recalled Harvinder, who took his father to hospital immediately after the accident and was still at the hospital to complete the formalities.
Back in London, Harmander has started a campaign to collect money for a clubhouse in the memory of Ilford’s “adopted son”. “We are raising money for the clubhouse under the permission of the city council by collecting 114 pounds each from close to 9,000 people in the world to build the clubhouse to carry the Fauja Singh legacy,” said Harmander.
