Nasdaq Executive Vice Chairman Edward Knight said India’s economic growth, skilled workforce and entrepreneurial ecosystem are drawing international investors and global technology companies.
NEW YORK (TIP): Indian Ambassador to the United States Vinay Mohan Kwatra on Sept. 2 rang the opening bell at Nasdaq, to mark the growing strength of the India-US partnership.
“India is undergoing a significant economic and technological transformation, driven by a strong entrepreneurial spirit,” Kwatra said while ringing the bell. “The companies listed here are one of the great pillars of that partnership.”
Speaking at the event in New York, Kwatra said India’s transformation was creating opportunities for deeper partnerships with US companies and investors.
“India is undergoing a significant economic and technological transformation, driven by strong entrepreneurial ecosystem, expanding digital capabilities, and a young and talented workforce,” he said.
He identified technology, technology-linked capital, infrastructure and the mobility of skilled professionals as important areas in the emerging economic relationship between the two countries.
“One of the greatest pillars of our current and the emerging partnership is the partnership with the companies in the community of the technology leadership companies in NASDAQ for technology, technology linked capital, technology infrastructure, and of course mobility of skilled professionals,” Kwatra said.
Kwatra also referred to India’s latest economic growth figures, saying the economy grew 7.8 percent in the latest quarter.
“As India moves forward to Viksit Bharat, we look forward to an even stronger partnership with American businesses, investors, and institutions,” he said.
Nasdaq Executive Vice Chairman Edward Knight said the exchange wants to see more Indian companies list on Nasdaq in the coming years, citing growing global investor interest in India’s economy, technology sector and entrepreneurial ecosystem.
“Here at NASDAQ, we know the global investor is very, very interested in India. And for good reason,” Knight said.
“That is why we’d love to see in the coming years more Indian companies listing on NASDAQ,” he added.
Knight highlighted India’s economic growth, skilled workforce and entrepreneurial culture as factors attracting international investors and global technology companies. He also pointed to the expanding presence of Nasdaq-listed companies in India.
“Many of our companies – Google, Apple, NVIDIA – have increasing presence in India, are investing there, and that’s contributing to the growth of their shares on our market, and that’s creating a lot of interest by the global investor,” Knight said.
The event included representatives of the US-India Business Council and focused on India’s growing role in innovation and technology and the expanding economic links between the two countries.
Nasdaq is home to several major technology companies, including Apple, Microsoft, Alphabet and Nvidia. India’s expanding technology sector, skilled workforce and entrepreneurial ecosystem have made it an increasingly important market for global technology companies and investors.
