Actress Anushka Sharma says it is in the pursuit of doing new things that she chose to do ‘NH10’. She is glad that the movie shows her in a different light. “As an actor, I have tried to do new things and that’s why I have done few films. I can do a film only if it excites me as an actor. The story should give a huge kick. I look different and feel different in ‘NH10’,” Anushka.
“When you have the option of being able to perform, I want to do that,” added the ‘Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl’ and ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’ actress. Directed by Navdeep Singh, ‘NH10’ is a thriller, co-produced by Phantom Productions and Eros International. This is Anushka’s debut production venture and it also stars Neil Bhoopalam.
She says the movie features incidents inspired from real life events. “It’s a very unusual film and I am proud to back this film,” she added.
Amidst busy work schedules, actress Nargis Fakhri has found time to sip her morning coffee and pursue her love for painting. She drew a creative sketch, and it seems she wants to explore her drawing skills more.
“Morning coffee & Sketch. Haven’t done this in years! Gona start with pencils then move to canvas and paints later…?? lets see what I can create (sic),” the Rockstar actress shared via Twitter.
Her sketch features a prim and proper lady dressed in a gown and with an elaborate floral headgear. It has hints of peach for some colour.
While enjoying her artistic pursuit, Nargis is also caught up with working towards getting toned abs with a combination of healthy eating habits
STORY: Anokhi Devi (Mallika Sherawat) is a popular dancer who engages in a relationship with Dina Nath (Om Puri) for political power. When election ticket doesn’t come her way, she threatens to bring out an objectionable CD containing something that can destroy Dina Nath’s career. Anokhi goes missing and the case moves to CBI for investigation.
REVIEW: A hybrid of political drama and murder mystery, Dirty Politics is a warped tale. Despite flaunting a convoy of seasoned actors, the film fails to hold up its promising premise. The script’s most potent part is the sex scandal but the writer introduces an array of meaningless sub-plots which dilutes it. Had the story systematically unraveled its myriad facets, it could’ve left a thumping impact.
There is no drama or suspense in the film. The only mystery that remains is why actors like Puri, Naseeruddin Shah and Anupam Kher agreed to be a part of such muck. A mishmash of dismal performances, terrible editing and an unsurprising plot-line, the film fails to do justice to its core idea of dishing out a political drama where sex plays a powerful role.
Sex is instead used as a prop to titillate in this amateurish story. A top politician cannot keep his libido in control and allows himself to be used as a pawn by his keep whose ‘dirty’ ambitions include attaining political power. Sherawat’s skin show adds no value to the plot. Kher, Shah and Puri manage to better an otherwise dreadful narrative but with a plot this execrable, a better film cannot be whipped up.
Silly isn’t a term broad enough to encapsulate the zest of this movie. Stories like these demand a little more sensitivity but the director’s incoherence of understanding the theme make this a wasted attempt. What else can explain the rape sequence in the climax?
Expect to remain unmoved by this film which tries to unleash the morally corrupt face of Indian politics. The product we have at hand, is a juvenile tryst which focuses on a sexually charged up plot to garner good box office moolah.
Model Kendall Jenner, who was seen walking the runway for luxury brands including Chanel and Balmain at the Paris Fashion Week, has been signed on to endorse fashion brand Calvin Klein.
Kendall took to image-sharing platform Instagram to post some photographs in which she is seen wearing Calvin Klein lingerie and jeans. She has even tagged the official account of the brand, reports mirror.co.uk.
The reality star, who is already the face of cosmetic brand Estee Lauder, is now the face and body of the popular underwear brand, according to New York Post newspaper’s Page Six column.
Singer Justin Bieber was also posting many photographs of himself rocking Calvin Klein briefs online before he was announced as a spokesman for Calvin Klein Jeans in January. The singer generated a huge amount of publicity for the brand after appearing in an advertisement with model Lara Stone as his fans questioned whether his muscles had been photoshopped.
STORY: A group of young scientists create a serum that allows them to resurrect the dead. Making a strong case for why the deceased should remain that way, one of them is transformed into something terrible when the serum is used to revive her.
REVIEW: While this movie dutifully touches upon most horror checkpoints (jump scares etc.), it is probably the only horror flick that introduces something new -mention of something called DMT (referred to as ‘the Spirit Molecule’) in the brain, which according to Frank (Duplass), Zoe (Wilde), Clay (Peters) and Niko (Glover) is of key importance to their experiment. This, coupled with Zoe’s concerns about the moralistic angle of reviving the dead, makes for an interesting build-up. When they resurrect a dog, Zoe asks her fiance Frank, “If we bring a dog back from the dead, are we ripping him out of doggie heaven?”
Their university dean soon pulls the plug on the experiment but they decide to continue with the work, regardless. A lab accident kills Zoe, whom Frank revives with the serum. So, strange chemicals, ethical issues and a sense of ‘what happens next?’ Just when you think things are going to get really interesting, Lazarus gets sloppy in a hurry.
Zoe’s back with superpowers that aren’t really explained. Is she demonically possessed? Has she been to another dimension or realm? Is it some crazy alter-ego?These angles of exploration would have given the film tremendous psychological leverage and impact. But astoundingly, that is avoided. Instead, the sense of foreboding created by the meticulous build-up is dissipated. Zoe is clearly very tormented by something and now wants her friends to share her nightmare.
To be fair, the sense of claustrophobia remains (also, a few scares that will spill your popcorn) and the cast do their salvageable best, but the script gives them precious little to play around with. Apart from the film’s clear message – that if you play God, bad things will happen -Wilde definitely does look scary and indeed, she is the best thing about the movie.
Eva Mendes has admitted that she feels very happy about her therapist as she tells her flaws and tries to correct her and make her a better person.
The ‘2 Fast 2 Furious’ actress said in an interview with Women’s Health that rather than she was lucky to work with someone who doesn’t just nod her head, but also told her what’s wrong with her so that she could fix it up.

The history of horror genre can be traced way back to 1993, when Zee TV launched Ramsay Brothers’ Zee Horror Show and then Sony brought to its audiences Aahat for the very first time in 1996, which thus far is considered as the longest-running horror show on Indian television today.
Though initially there was buzz regarding actress Bipasha Basu starring in the first episode of the horror show which turned out to be false, Sunny Leone will now be soon on the show.
Having received great feedback since its launch in Feb 2015, Sony’s horror show will soon bring Bollywood actress Sunny Leone to the small screen.
While film promotions have created a need for Bollywood actors to star in episodes of popular television shows, Sunny will be the first Bollywood star who’ll be seen in Aahat.
Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra has bagged a lead role in American TV show Quantico. Produced by ABC television, Priyanka will play an FBI agent whose past comes back to haunt her in the midst of her training at a camp. She will be starring alongside Jake McLaughlin, who is also reportedly playing an agent in the show.
Indian actress-singer Priyanka Chopra’s debut American show Quantico will feature an international starcast including Jake McLaughlin, Dougray Scott and Aunjanue Ellis.
“As an actor I’m constantly challenging my creative capacity. I took a leap of faith when (ABC head of casting) Keli Lee asked me to join the ABC family, and I’m so excited to be a part of the pilot for Quantico’alongside an incredibly talented cast and production team.” Said Priyanka Chopra
The 32-year-old former Miss World took to Instagram to reveal the cast of the upcoming ABC show, which also features Tate Ellington, Graham Rogers, Johanna Braddy and Yasmine Al Massri.
“Cast list… #Quantico #PrepDay #Pilot,” Priyanka wrote alongside a horizontal collage of photographs of the actors in the show.
It has been reported that McLaughlin, also 32, will play Priyanka’s love interest on the series. The actor has previously starred on the J J Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron’s NBCdrama Believe.
Josh Safran of Gossip Girl fame will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios and Mark Gordon Company drama alongside Mark Gordon and Nick Pepper. Marc Munden will direct the pilot.
The drama centres on a group of young FBI recruits, who battle their way through training at the Quantico base in Virginia. Priyanka will play Alex Weaver, a brilliant but haunted FBI trainee whose past boils to the surface soon after her arrival at Quantico.
STORY: The Kingsmen aren’t answerable to governments nor are they externally influenced. When one of them is killed thanks to agent Harry’s (Firth) judgement error, he backs his fallen comrade’s son Eggsy (Egerton) to become a Kingsman. Later, they will have to thwart tech tycoon Valentine’s (Jackson) evil designs, involving mind control and mass murder.
REVIEW: Colin Firth’s performance as an action man is nothing short of a revelation. When the impeccably-suited Harry first meets Eggsy while the latter is a young boy, he gives him a medal bearing an engraved telephone number, for whenever Eggsy is in dire circumstances.
Many years later, Eggsy, now directionless , dials it after a squabble with the law, gives the secret code ( ” Oxfords, not Brogues ” ) and is freed from police custody, no questions asked. Harry then rescues Eggsy from a brutal beating (Harry’s motto being an emphatic “Manners. Maketh. The Man”), busts some smooth moves and Eggsy is impressed enough to want to become a Kingsman. Headed by Arthur (Caine) and trained by Merlin (Strong), Eggsy and the other recruits including a woman, Sophie (Cooks on), face a series of gruelling tests before becoming agents.
Part Bond parody, part serious and a whole lot of camp, you can’t help but laugh (there are plenty of ‘LOL’ moments) at the obvious 007 dig when Eggsy tells a bartender that he’d like his martini with gin, not vodka (“obviously”), stirred a certain number of times whilst staring fixedly at a fresh bottle of vermouth!
Egerton delivers and Jackson is perfect as the villain Valentine whose environmentally-conscious concerns conceal a devious plan for global genocide. His sidekick Gazelle (Boutella) is a vamp plucked straight out a Quentin Tarantino wet dream as does a scene involving hyper-stylized mayhem in a small-town church. Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker, anyone?) also shows up as a genius scientist. Bulletproof brollies that fire bullets, dart spewing wristwatches and cigarette lighter grenades aside, there’s a smooth balance of good humo u r, butt-kicking action and originality too. Kingsman: The Secret Service is a breath of fresh air in the spy movie genre.
Cameron Diaz has posed bra-free for April 2015 issue of Cosmopolitan and said that everyone needs to have sex to lead a healthy life. The ‘Sex Tape’ actress told UK Cosmopolitan in a cover interview that every individual should do exercise to keep themselves healthy, and people who look out for some reasons to walk away from it and states that their body doesn’t allow it but actually their mind restrains them of doing so, the Mirror reported. The 42-year-old actress added that she even treats herself sometimes with a handful of berries and some cake, but instructed the readers not have the whole cake, and have some pieces of it.

STORY: When more-than-pleasantly-plump Sandhya (Bhumi Pednekar) gets hitched to Prem (Ayushmann Khurrana), the latter cannot bring himself to look beyond his wife’s size. Her relentless attempts to win over his attention are in vain and the two end up on the brink of divorce when she overhears him passing objectionable remarks about her to friends. Can blubber hinder love?
REVIEW: Dum Laga Ke Haisha is an unlikely quasi-original offering from the stable that in recent past has made sincere efforts to defy the conventional notions of love.
This film might further the cause of breaking away from the bastion but it reeks of predictability. Sharat Kataria pulls off a quaint-yet-flawed film. Set in circa 1995 in Haridwar, he carefully refrains from creating a staple, syrupy affair. The film’s first hour sails smoothly sans hiccups, but the second half can be faulted for unspooling tediously.
The movie erects a plot whose on-the-face nostalgia factor is almost jarring. Its rustic setting, bustling by-lanes and old-world charm does an overt job of selling the VCR era. There’s even a desperately-included fight sequence where the couple aggressively play 90s songs.
Such scenes might crack you up, but the crackling effect is wiped out as the film moves towards a predictable climax featuring Kumar Sanu, a steady fixture since the first scene. It’s the only thing that makes its ‘loser’ hero look good and is a contrived culmination of the romance we never find blooming.
The film’s subplots are unnecessary and abrupt, like the sudden demise of a never-mentioned-before uncle which triggers the final act.
The actors, however, deliver redeeming performances. For a debutante, Pednekar is surprisingly confident. Khurrana, is the best he has been since his launch venture. Sanjay Mishra and Seema Pahwa are at the top of their game.
But in the end, it isn’t extraordinary, failing to rise above the idea that a fat girl needs some schmuck to complete her life. Undeniably, the smarts are visible in its original thinking but it doesn’t translate into a satiating viewing experience.

Bang Bang hottie Katrina Kaif is all set to join Bollywood biggies at Madame Tussauds, London. The actress will unveil the carefully sculpted wax statue later this month. Katrina is reportedly trying to zero in on what she would wear for the unveiling ceremony. The official Madame Tussauds Twitter handle had earlier tweeted, “Katrina has collaborated closely with our sculptors and artists to decide a dancing pose and outfit for the figure, having given a sitting in Mumbai where all the measurements required to create an accurate likeness were gathered. A team of 20 artists will work on the figure, which will cost £150,000 to produce.”
There is perhaps only one place in the world where stars like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan can come together under one roof. The prestigious Madame Tussauds wax museum in London brings the best of Bollywood together and freezes the stars in all their glory.
Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor, 28, who was shooting for ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ in Gondal, Rajkot district, was admitted in an ICU after she tested positive for swine flu. She complained of viral fever and was taken to a local hospital before being confirmed for Swine Flu.
She was taken to Sterling Hospital in Rajkot on Saturday (February 28) and was tested positive for swine flu. Spokesperson for Sterling Hospital confirmed the actress had tested positive for H1N1 virus. “She had been admitted to the hospital at around 10 am on Saturday. Dr Chirag Matravadiya, examined her. As the patient had symptoms of cold, fever etc, the doctor recommended her swine flu test. The lab tests came positive for H1N1virus in the evening,” said the spokesperson.
“Right now, she is being treated in an intensive care unit in isolation ward of our hospital. Doctors treating her are saying that her condition is stable,” added the spokesperson.
Sources at the hospital also said that her physical trainer had also reportedly tested positive.
Sujoy Ghosh is directing the Hindi adaptation of the best-selling Japanese romantic thriller “The Devotion Of Suspect X” written by best-selling author Keigo Higashino.
While the film has already been made in Japanese and Korean languages, the same is currently being made in Hollywood too. The book is an atmospheric thriller about a desperate woman craving a peaceful life, but who ends up killing her abusive ex-husband. The next-door neighbour helps hide the body and improvises a cover-up. When the body is eventually found, a determined investigator senses that something is amiss, thereby giving rise to a thrilling cat-and-mouse game.
Saif Ali Khan has been finalised for playing the investigator in the film. It is now confirmed that Kangana Ranaut will be playing the role of the woman. You would recall that Saif and Kangana had coincidentally been paired opposite each other in Reema Kagti’s love story. But due to financial differences between the producers and Saif, he opted out of the film.
Since Reema’s film was taking a little time to start, we have now learnt that due to date issues, Kangana has also decided to opt out of her film as she has now given her dates to Sujoy for his film. While Reema is sure to find her lead cast again, Sujoy is all set to start shooting his film from April this year with both Saif and Kangana, who it seems must have been truly destined to work together in a film.
Sherlyn Chopra has been signed on to play a double role in Satellite Pictures’ next venture. The film is slated to go on floors as soon as the actress wraps up the shooting of her bilingual film.
The movie, which is yet untitled, will be produced by Subhash Choudhary and Shaila. One might remember that the producer duo’s earlier production Filmistaan bagged the National Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi in 2012.
In sharp contrast to the award-winning film that had debutant actors, the makers were keen to sign on an established actress for their next. “The premise of this film is much more challenging than that of Filmistaan. We were aware that the lead role was a rather difficult one. So we thought that we would need a talented and established actress to play the protagonist,” says Subhash.
The two add that while they were considering a few actresses, it was the film’s casting director, DK Shroff, who recommended Sherlyn for the role. Says Shaila, “When we met her, we realised that there is more than meets the eye. Sherlyn’s personality has multiple layers, which makes her very intriguing as an individual. And it is because of this very trait that we felt she would be able to add a new dimension to her characters. The film will be shot across India and shall hopefully be ready for release in 2016.”
While they are excited about their second venture, the producers also state that they are still trying to find their footing in the industry. “Although our debut theatrical release bagged a National Award, we still consider ourselves new players in the business of filmmaking. We are willing to learn the ways and techniques of storytelling over time, and are always trying to give our best shot,” concludes Subhash.
STORY: Jazz drummer Andrew (Teller) has tremendous potential and ability. Painfully shy, he lets his drums to the talking. What he craves is that elusive nod of approval from his brutal jazz instructor, Fletcher (Simmons). Easier said than done, as Andrew realizes that Fletcher is a sadistic nightmare of a teacher.
REVIEW: Whiplash explodes on screen like a well-timed artillery barrage. We’re introduced to the two characters in this movie that really matter in the opening scene itself. Illuminated by an overhead light, Andrew is seen practicing in an otherwise dark room at the fictional Shaffer Conservatory of Music. He picks up the tempo on the snare, gradually accelerating to a machine-gun frenzy until Fletcher walks in and Andrew abruptly halts. Their tenuous student-teacher equation begins here.
A devoted Buddy Rich fan with stellar ambitions, Andrew is relentless like no drummer Fletcher has ever taught and the bullet-headed Fletcher is distinctly evocative of Full Metal Jacket’s foul-mouthed, bullying and merciless drill instructor, Sergeant Hartman. Fletcher eschews jazz improvisation for impossibly strict cadences and tempos. And when he asks the band to meet for practice at 9 am, he will enter the room at that very second. Andrew is no slouch in the determination department – he dumps his sweet girlfriend (Benoist) to focus on playing and play he does, till his hands bleed.
Hank Levy’s Whiplash is used by Fletcher with an obsession bordering on derangement; he makes Andrew repeat a five-second, random phrase from the piece, each time expecting him to get the right tempo. It’s never enough, but Fletcher quotes a Charlie “Bird” Parker anecdote as justification for pushing his students beyond the edge.
Some might feel that the depiction of jazz here is too harsh. But then again, Fletcher’s approach is about mastering the underpinning forms and structures before a player explores improvisational methods. The taut editing (Tom Cross) is outstanding and Simmons outdoes himself. When the thumping tom-toms, trombones and tympani fall silent, what you are also left with is a career-topping performance (thus far, at least!) from Miles Teller.
Jessica Chastain has joined the star cast of Universal’s ‘The Huntsman’ opposite Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron, it has been reported.
The 37-year-old actress will be reprising her role from the first installment of the Snow White, Deadline.com reported. Emily Blunt has closed her deal to star in the film and Nick Frost will also be returning from the first film, who has now agreed to terms to reprise his role as a dwarf Nion. Frank Darabont, who had been set to direct before bowing out earlier this year, wrote the screenplay, with earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos.
actress Monica Bellucci, who will play the James Bond’s new love interest in “Spectre”, says she wants to be called a “Bond lady” instead of “Bond girl”.
The 50-year-old, who will star opposite Daniel Craig, 46, in the film believes the youthful term “Bond girl” is no longer applicable to her character, reports dailymail.co.uk. “My first thought was, ‘How can I be a Bond girl at 50?’ After my audition (director) Sam Mendes told me that, for the first time in history, he wanted a woman of a similar age to the actor playing Bond,” she said.
“I told Sam he would be a hero among women for casting me in ‘Spectre’. “Compared to the Bond girls who have gone before me, I am so much more mature. I’d prefer to be called a Bond woman or perhaps a Bond lady,” she added.
Badlapur is all fury and fog, a revenge saga that plays out with such eyebrow-singeing intensity that I could imagine a gravel-voiced narrator filling us in on dames and dreams and dark, stormy nights.
STORY: Raghu’s (Varun Dhawan) indefectible life is devastated, when a robbery episode kills his wife and son. The culprit Liak (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) refuses to let out the truth and is imprisoned for 20 years. Refusing to move on, Raghu harbours in him the tryst for truth. Can he avenge the deaths of people who meant the world to him? And, is being devoured by the feeling of revenge as gratifying as his volcanic rage had promised?
REVIEW: Badlapur is a gobsmacking movie that suffuses on screen – a deftly written story, spectacular performances and an intelligently layered screenplay. What works best here is the film’s unpredictability. From the minute it begins, you’re latched to your seat with your heart throbbing in your mouth and your throat frequently choking up. For the sheer impact the movie conjures up, writer-director Sriram Raghavan deserves a bow!
A still from the movie
Mixing grit and suspense in the right measure, Sriram allows his film to take the risky path in keeping you invested, ably playing his motley bunch of characters. While the layers smoothly unfold in this vendetta affair, Raghavan’s clarity of vision keeps the narrative seamless. The wicked humour sprinkled abruptly in the sequences draws one further into this movie. The excessive gore might be considered superfluous but is vital for the impact it has.
The driving force here are the actors who evolve the story. Varun’s measured acting and sincere eyes draw empathy. With each scene, the intense hues he brings to Raghu, unravel. Nawaz is superlative as Liak, bringing a sinful streak of twisted comedy, teaming it with unabashed swagger. The ladies deliver adequately, but it’s Huma Qureshi who brings more to her role than what it holds.
Though the film’s second hour meanders and is a tad long, the compelling climax and memorable scenes, like the one where Liak reveals the truth that Raghu had desperately been seeking, trivializes these flaws. Added to it, Sachin-Jigar’s haunting music adds a piercing quality.
Brisk and absorbing, concluding differently than expected, Badlapur is an inspired film that dangerously attempts to change the landscape of the thriller genre in Bollywood..
Prime Focus, the visual effects company behind Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar and this year’s Academy Award winner for Best Visual Effects. The Oscars victory was led by Double Negative, the London-based VFX studio, that merged with a subsidiary of Prime Focus in 2014 and created one of the world’s largest 3D, animation and visual effects outfits.
To his credit are Hollywood entertainers like Gravity, Avatar, Shrek,Tron: Legacy, among others. Avatar and Gravity are both Academy Award winners for Best Visual Effects in 2010 and 2014.
In 2011, the company collaborated with American film production company, Lucasfilm, for the 3D conversion of Star Wars: Episode I-III. A year later, Prime Focus bagged five Oscar nominations for the studio’s work in Tree of Life, X-Men: First Class, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Hugo.
Namit Malhotra, the founder of the Company in Mumbai started out of his father’s garage in 1995. Over 80% of the merged company is still held by Malhotra’s Prime Focus, which is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange.
Some of the funds for that merger came through Reliance MediaWorks, the film and entertainment arm of the Reliance group, that infused Rs120 crore ($19.2 million) into Malhotra’s company to buy a 30.2% stake.
For Malhotra, who moved from India’s film capital to Los Angeles five years ago, an inclination for lights, camera, action ran in the family. His grandfather M.N. Malhotra was a cameraman, and he even shot the Indian film industry’s first colour movie Jhansi Ki Rani in 1956. Malhotra’s father Naresh Malhotra has worked as an associate director and producer in Bollywood.
When Malhotra started Prime Focus along with three others two decades ago, his aim was “to find a bridge between Bollywood and technology because our industry did not really use technology as easily as you saw in Hollywood,” as he explained in a 2011 interview.
Of course, Bollywood films till this day are notorious for shoddy homegrown visual effects—and borrowing too much technology and too many techniques from Hollywood for its films. In such a situation, for an Indian company to win an Oscar for VFX is a tad ironic.
Although he has worked on a long list of Indian films, including Go Goa Gone, Agent Vinod and Rockstar, Malhotra’s claim to fame comes mostly from the West.
Scarlett Johansson is set to take the lead in the Kristin Gore -scripted film based on the Jon Ronson book ‘ The Psychopath Test.’
The thriller, which will be directed by Jay Roach, will be produced by Brian Grazer along with Roach and his Everyman Pictures banner, and Finola Dwyer and Amanda Posey, Deadline.com reported.
Ronson, who wrote ‘The Men Who Stare At Goats,’ here tackles how the medical community, who tries to diagnose and classify an elusive group: remorseless, deadly psychopaths, say one out of every hundred people is a psychopath, devoid of empathy, manipulative, deceitful, charming, seductive, and delusional. The book, which explores their world and the madness industry, is published by Picador and Riverhead Books and was a bestseller in the US and the UK.
STORY: Based on best-selling author Cecelia Ahern’s novel ‘Where Rainbows End’, Love, Rosie is the story of two childhood friends, Rosie (Lily Collins) and Alex (Sam Claflin), who ‘keep missing each other in love’. Do they end up living ‘happily ever after’? Well, it’s a rom-com
REVIEW: In 1989, Harry Burns professed his love for Sally Albright in ‘When Harry Met Sally…’ because ‘he knew whom he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and he wanted the rest of his life to start as soon as possible’. Two-and-a-half decades later, with a new crop of actors, Love, Rosie attempts the same with formulaic candy-floss romance from Nora Ephron’s memorable film and is quite successful in warming the cockles of our hearts.
Playing childhood BFFs, Collins and Claflin bring forth an enchanting chemistry. It is a pre-requisite for any romantic comedy to bring on screen the tangibility of their romance. The actors make Rosie and Alex’s bonding affable. Their familiarity forms the crux of their romance and their ability to take each other for granted has a relatable vein to it.
Disaster strikes when Alex moves to Harvard to study medicine and Rosie’s unplanned pregnancy (not with Alex’s child) separates them. She decides to withhold the information and, suddenly, their lives take starkly disparate paths. The story establishes them as two flawed characters who visibly complete each other. Director Christian Ditter brings this out beautifully through tender scenes, like the one where Rosie discloses the truth about her baby to Alex and he asks if he could be the godfather.
There are many hiccups in this drama. Using the track ‘Push It’ during a childbirth sequence is enraging, but the warm sunshine-filled lovable frames purge these flaws. The film’s ribald humour, like a condom mishap and another S&M disaster provide good laughs(sans sleaze).
Love, Rosie is quaint comfort-cinema that makes for an amiable watch.
Keira Knightley has revealed that she used to get targeted by paparazzi and was called a whore when she was 18-year-old.
During her appearance on ‘TimesTalks,’ the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actress said that she used to feel weird that almost 20-30 men called her a whore just to get a reaction whenever she stepped out of the house, and click pictures under the skirt, E! Online reported.
The 29-year-old actress added that thankfully now things were different and felt blessed to have a happy married life and expecting her first baby with husband James Righton.
