  • PARIS HILTON WANTS TO MARRY BOYFRIEND THOMAS GROSS

PARIS HILTON WANTS TO MARRY BOYFRIEND THOMAS GROSS

Television personality Paris Hilton reportedly wants to “settle down” and marry her Swiss businessman boyfriend Thomas Gross.

The 34-year-old Simple Life star is ready to spend the rest of her life with the Swiss businessman, who she met in Ibiza earlier this year, reported Female First.

“Paris wants to walk down the aisle sometime next year.

She’s turning 35 and she’s ready to settle down,” a source said.

Hilton’s mind turned to marriage after she attended her sister Nicky’s “perfect” nuptials to James Rothschild earlier this year.

“Even since her sister, Nicky, got married, people have been asking Paris when she’s going to get engaged… Nicky is planning to have kids soon, and Paris loves the idea of them being pregnant at the same time,” the source added.

  • Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

    Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials

STORY: The human population is fast moving towards extinction. So, will a bunch of valiant teenagers be able to survive the virus that is turning men into zombies?

MOVIE REVIEW: 2014’s The Maze Runner ended on a thunderous note with a State agency assuming the responsibility of eradicating the homicidal virus which transforms people into zombies. In this edition, the story picks up from there and unravels the survival journey of a bunch of kids after they escape from the underground paramilitary accommodation where they were put up after being rescued. A large part of the narrative is devoted to keeping the element of mystery consistent.

In many ways, Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials is a lot more accomplished than its first part. For starters, it has a more coherent story to its credit and evokes a relentless sense of urgency in every frame. Its novice actors brilliantly bring out the overpowering element of uncertainty. Painting an intriguingly dystopian picture with a catastrophe looming large over their heads, the film’s pacey narrative also keeps you hooked.

The only flaw in TS Nowlin’s otherwise imaginative screenplay is the lack of a convincing backstory. Blaming human extinction on a large hole in the ozone layer doesn’t validate the extinction of the human species. It seems too simplistic a theory to explain how people turn into zombies just because of the Earth’s shooting temperatures. How the atmospheric deterioration is connected with the deadly virus is never elucidated either, which is a glaring glitch.

The piquant chase sequences and Dylan O’Brien’s go-fight attitude, makes up for the discrepancies by infusing steadiness in the film. He is beautifully understated in his performance and balances the movie on his shoulders alone.

Another place where the film nullifies its odds is in its engaging cinematography. With its aptly macabre setting, the film’s locales look menacing. It borrows the ambiance of a thriller or a zombie horror, but mostly has the dramatic quality it aspires towards.

Director Wes Ball imbues the right level of energy with inspired, high-octane action pieces keeping you glued. It might falter on many grounds but nonetheless, delivers solid entertainment for its entire runtime.

  • GENDER INEQUALITY IN FILM IS FRUSTRATING: GEENA DAVIS

GENDER INEQUALITY IN FILM IS FRUSTRATING: GEENA DAVIS

Actress Geena Davis says she finds it “frustrating” to see gender inequality in the media and film industries.

Davis, who played Thelma Dickinson in 1991 feminist hit “Thelma & Louise”, said that despite playing some iconic female roles, none of the films she has appeared in have made a change, reported The Guardian.

“Having been in some roles that really resonated with women, I became hyper-aware of how women are represented in Hollywood,” Davis said.

“After Thelma & Louise, which was pretty noticed and potent and significant, people were saying ‘This changes everything! There’s going to be so many female buddy movies!’ and nothing changed.

“And then the next movie I did was A League of Their Own, which was a huge hit and all the talk was, ‘Well now, beyond a doubt, women’s sports movies, we’re going to see a wave of them because this was so successful’. That’s balls. It took 10 years until Bend It Like Beckham came out. So, there was no trend whatsoever,” Davis said.

The 59-year-old actress, who founded research organisation The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media in 2006, added that she is saddened by how little opportunity women are given to feel “empowered” by female characters.

“The big takeaway I got from Thelma & Louise was the reaction of women who had seen the movie being so profound, so different,” she said.

HEART-POUNDING, THRILLING NEW DRAMA “QUANTICO” ON ABC

NEW YORK (TIP): “Run” — A diverse group of recruits has arrived at the FBI Quantico Base for training. They are the best and the brightest, so it seems impossible that one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11. “Quantico” aired SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Flashing back and forth between the future-the aftermath of a terrorist attack on Grand Central Station-and the present-a 20-week training course at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA-we follow the lives of seven FBI recruits. These young adults are pushed to the brink as the class is gradually whittled down, until only the finest candidates remain. Haunted by questions about her late father and his mysterious career as an undercover agent, Alex Parrish joins the FBI searching for answers. Her fellow trainees include Ryan Booth (ex-military), Shelby Wyatt (an orphaned Southern belle), Eric Packer (a Mormon with a troubled past), Simon Asher (the first openly gay FBI recruit), Nimah Amin (an observant Muslim with a double life), and Caleb Haas (for whom the FBI is a family business). Their mentors at the Academy-Miranda Shaw and Liam O’Connor-have boundless experience but a complicated history with the Bureau and each other. When Alex Parrish learns that she’s been framed for the terrorist event, she has to run for her life while trying to figure out which of her former classmates is the real terrorist before they strike again.

“Quantico” stars Priyanka Chopra as Alex Parrish, Josh Hopkins as Liam O’Connor, Jake McLaughlin as Ryan Booth, Aunjanue Ellis as Miranda Shaw, Johanna Braddy as Shelby Wyatt, Tate Ellington as Simon Asher, Graham Rogers as Caleb Haas and Yasmine Al Massri as Nimah Amin.

Guest starring Anthony Ruivivar as Agent Julio “JJ” Jimenez, Brian J. Smith as Eric Packer, Anna Khaja as Sita Parrish, Ray Stoney as SWAT Team Leader and Johnathon Schaech as Michael Parrish.

“Run” was written by Joshua Safran and directed by Marx Munden. Executive producers of “Quantico” are Joshua Safran, Mark Gordon, Nicholas Pepper, Jake Coburn and Robert Sertner. “Quantico” is produced by ABC Studios.

  • Indian-Origin Actor Priyanka Chopra’s “Quantico” Impresses the World

Indian-Origin Actor Priyanka Chopra’s “Quantico” Impresses the World

Actress Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Quantico’ premiered in the United States on Sunday night, Sep 27, and took the country by storm. Seeing an Indian actress nail the role of an American FBI recruit came as a surprise to all.

After the premiere of the pilot episode of ‘Quantico’, the US media took to Twitter to express how much they were impressed by the show.

Quantico, ABC’s new, twist-filled Sunday night drama about a group of FBI trainees, marks the American TV debut of actress and singer Priyanka Chopra. And if it also marks the first time you’ve seen the India-born star in action, prepare to be impressed.

Chopra — who makes good on her goal to make her Alex Parrish a Jason Bourne-level action heroine — is sharp, intense, infinitely watchable, and the main reason Quantico may also become one of your new faves. Alex has always dreamt to join the FBI, but later she finds herself in huge trouble when she is painted as a co-conspirator of one of the biggest terrorist attacks on the States.

Before the airing of the show, Priyanka’s contemporaries close home had tweeted their support.

The Hollywood Reporter had this to say: … you should definitely give Quantico a look if you’re interested in a little mindless eye candy that has enough hooks of a larger mystery to possibly keep you entertained week to week. And by all means, if you’re a fan already of ABC series like How To Get Away With Murder (which Quantico borrows from heavily) and Scandal, you’ll be right at home with Quantico, which, in the future, will likely have plenty of Grey’s Anatomy sexy-time moments as well.

Variety praised Chopra for being an “arresting lead” but wondered whether it was possible to do “a Shonda Rhimes-like show without her brand of pixie dust”…. the bar for such thrillers has been set pretty high by premium series like Homeland, while broadcasters have struggled with their versions (a la NBC’s Allegiance). Based on first impressions, Quantico seems to be stationed in a more mundane realm. The question now is whether the show can get away with it.

People Magazine called it “fun, sexy and twisty” and said: The pilot, at least, is well worth checking out. The story isn’t always plausible — there’s one twist that would blow away every brainstorm that ever disrupted Carrie Mathison’s peace of mind — but it’s complicated, clever and fast enough that you start to wonder if even the most incidental detail may actually have significance in the season.

The Wrap praised Chopra as having “a poise and sexual spark as Alex that suggests a formidable potential FBI agent whose mind and beauty are equally stunning”. However, they didn’t think much of the pilot itself.

That straining to play serious-drama dress-up also can be felt in plotting and action scenes that can be awfully dopey. Alex’s escape from the FBI after she’s accused of orchestrating the attack only works if the bureau is so stunningly incompetent that it literally can’t catch a woman a block away from where she was arrested. Similar narrative conveniences–such as characters stumbling upon important clues just lying around waiting to be discovered–litter this first episode, which wouldn’t be so egregious if these agents and recruits weren’t supposed to be the best of the best.

The AV Club opined that, while flawed, Quantico stands out from its fall drama contemporaries by toting “its bullshit with a sense of wit and style”.

The premiere reveals things about its characters that other shows might hold onto for entire seasons. A lot of it is utter nonsense — violent pasts, unspoken agendas, hidden family members — but it’s utter nonsense that piques curiosity.

Vulture called it “familiar in all the right ways” and said:

Chopra’s a huge star overseas for a reason: She’s very compelling onscreen, and you immediately get why ABC thinks she can anchor a show.

The New York Times called the pilot “competently OK TV” and complained that it “lacks the idiosyncrasy that grounds a show like Scandal through its wildest flights”. However, it had this to say about Chopra:

The strongest human asset in Quantico is Ms. Chopra, a Bollywood superstar and former Miss World who is immediately charismatic and commanding amid the otherwise generic ensemble. If there’s a problem with her casting, it’s that she may come across as too seasoned and assured to be persuasive as a shaky, neophyte recruit.

Grantland said that Chopra plays Alex Parrish “well enough” but tore into the show.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Quantico did quite well in the ratings. But beware anyone who says the show is “well-made.” It is “well-made” in the way frozen hamburgers are “well reheated” at your local fast-food franchise. These are borrowed ingredients. This is processed cheese.

The first episode of Quantico airs in India on October 3. It will be available on the channels Star World and Star World Premiere.

Pak refuses no objection certificate to Calendar Girls

Recently, Pakistani distributors reportedly refused filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar’s Calendar Girls fearing backlash from their Censor Board for an objectionable dialogue in the movie.

Now, their Ministry of Culture has sent a letter to the Censor Board stating that it won’t issue a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the film. Consequently, the Censor Board officials, who were supposed to watch the movie on Wednesday (September 23), weren’t able to issue it a clearance certificate.

As a result of these developments, the film, which releases in India on September 25, won’t open in cinemas in the neighbouring country. According to the film’s overseas distributor Sajjan Damani, “We had applied for the censor certificate clearance through one of the Pakistani distributors but their Ministry of Culture refused to issue the NOC only on the basis of watching the trailer. They have taken objection to a dialogue in the film – ‘Pakistani ladkiyaan bhi utne hi bold kaam karti hain jitni baaki ladkiyaan karti hain, balki kabhi kabhi uss se zyada bhi’ -spoken by Avani Modi who plays Nazneen Mallik, a Pakistani aspiring to become a supermodel.

  • KATTI BATTI | MOVIE REVIEW

    KATTI BATTI | MOVIE REVIEW

Nikhil Advani’s directorial ‘Katti Batti’ crashed on its first weekday. Kangana Ranaut and Irfan Khan starring movie didn’t start off with very good business in it’s first weekend and then movie witnessed consecutive falls on weekdays.

STORY: Maddy and Payal are in a live-in relationship. Suddenly, Payal leaves. But Maddy’s sure Payal still loves him – can Maddy and Payal patch up their katti love-life?

REVIEW: So, Katti Batti is sweet, funny, sassy – but inconsistent. Maddy (Imran) and Payal (Kangana) fall in love, moving into a New York-like Mumbai apartment, living together in yuppie style. But slowly, the romance of bedside candles and naughty home videos fades and life – feeding the pet, paying the bills, withstanding family tragedy – happens.

On the plus side, Katti Batti is one of the freshest-looking movies around, young, modern and hip. Its lead pair looks terrific – Imran simply rocks the nerdy glasses-and-stubble style while Kangana can clearly do boho-chic-chick asleep – and the movie’s a delicious mash of tattoos and linen shirts, wineglasses and vintage jars, spaghetti straps and stunningly tiled floors.

But herein lies the problem – Katti Batti can’t get over its own good looks. After a breezy first half, its story meanders, growing heavy while the bond between the leads feels too light. The movie is divided into dramatic cross-sections, moving from present to flashback, but the editing is too leisurely for powerful impact. Certain sequences – a contemporary Devdas, with ‘Chandramukhi on LoC’ – are hilarious but others – a ‘Fosla’ (Frustrated One-Sided Lovers’ Association) band -add extra weight to a storyline that should be lean.

With geeky charm, Imran’s competent but Kangana’s Payal feels like a remix of similar roles. Kangana lights up certain scenes with her unabashed panache but others, like those featuring Maddy’s supposedly South Indian boss, feel dated and dull.

In a sense, Katti Batti is vintage Nikhil ‘Salaam-e-Ishk’ Advani – pretty but so full of cute little somethings, the plot’s overall impact gets jumbled. Here, an emotional twist takes you by surprise but the lead pair’s bond doesn’t develop enough agony, enough ecstasy -perhaps because they seem to live their life with so many buddies, including the Fosla Band.

Somewhere between glossy ad, glassy music video, sitcom and masala movie, Katti Batti leaves you pouting. This could’ve had the lusty, gutsy power of a full-blown French kiss – it ends up a pleasant but passing peck on the cheek.

  • EVEREST | Movie Review

    EVEREST | Movie Review

STORY: Based on what actually happened regarding the disaster that befell a group of climbers in 1996, Everest recounts the harrowing details of what occurred during those fateful days spanning the ill-fated climb up that mountain.

REVIEW: Rob Hall (Clarke) and Scott Fischer (Gyllenhaal) are both tremendously experienced climbers who lead their own respective teams on this particular mission. They decide, earlier on in the story that for technical aspects as well as for reasons of bettering their chances of survival in the face of adverse conditions, that they pool in their resources and expertise.

Straight off the bat, the single most impressive aspect about this film really is the geographical titan that is the Everest, in all its towering, windswept, snow-capped glory. Salvatore Totino’s (Inferno, Cinderella Man, The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons among others) cinematography puts you right out there with the climbers, feeling that same sense of excitement, fear, trepidation and determination that the mountaineers themselves felt. Dramatic, swooping camera angles, awesome panoramas as well as tight, tense close-ups place you front and center in the action. And speaking of action, this film eschews drama for the sake of it. On one hand, this might make some viewers feel the movie is a bit slow, but that has probably been deliberate on Kormakur’s part, given that he wanted to keep the human element, as well as attendant aspects of tragedy and pathos, at the fore.

Brolin as Beck Weathers puts up the best performance, playing a stoic and strong Texan who also isn’t afraid to show a bit of human weakness in the face of danger. He is not even remotely as experienced as Fischer and Hall, but displays the kind of determination and grit that kept him soldiering on despite almost impossible conditions. Keira Knightley’s part as Hall’s wife is small but effective. Strangely enough, Gyllenhaal gets barely any screen time. While the film can drag at times, emphasis is placed on the man-versus-nature angle here. An interesting tale of tragedy and survival.

The actress says she has completed the shooting for Prakash Jha’s directorial “Gan-gaajal 2”, and will soon start shooting for “Bajirao Mastani”. The “Fashion” actress, who was shooting for “Gangaajal 2” in Bho-pal, is now back in Mumbai for the shoot for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s venture. “Back in Mumbai!! The feeling of completing a film is always the same! Bitter sweet.. #Gangaa-jal2 too much fun! Back to #BajiraoMastani tom,” the 32-year-old actress tweeted.

“Bajirao Mastani” is based on the love story between 18th century Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao I (Ranveer Singh) and his second wife Mastani (Deepika). Priyanka plays Kashibai, the first wife of Peshwa Ba-jirao.

At the same time, Priyanka is excited about her new show Quantico. The star took to Twitter to announce the name of the first episode of ABC’s suspense thriller series. Revealing the title of the episode, Priyanka said that she wants her fans to run to TV sets on September 27 when the show debuts on US television. The title is ‘Run’. We wonder if it is inspired by Doctor Who. Is there Whovian in the writer’s team of Quantico?

Quantico is a show about FBI recruits which chronicles their adventures as they train on Quantico base in Virginia and the se-crets that emerge from their past. The show will air in India immediately after its broad-cast in US. Priyanka’s fans in India are also getting a Hindi version of trailer.

Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar says Indians should feel proud of his “Fashion” actress Priyanka Chopra for representing the country abroad. “We should be proud of Pri-yanka Chopra because of her achievements. She has put India on the global platform,” Bhandarkar said.

His next project with the actress, who is currently seen in American TV series “Quan-tico”, is “Madamji”. “The film is extremely close to me because of the kind of subject it is. Even for Priyanka, ‘Madamji’ is very im-portant as she loves the subject of the film and is very excited about it, just like I am,” said the director.

Also clarifying about the delay, he said that the “Dil Dhadakne Do” actress is busy shooting other projects. “I am looking for a 60-day schedule for the film. Once we both are free, we will start shooting.”

And this could be the mother of all com-pliments for Priyanka Chopra. Bollywood, sensual star Sunny Leone, who now has stepped in healthy lifestyle with the launch of her workout DVD, says Priyanka Chopra has the best body in the Indian film industry. “Priyanka has a very well-shaped body. I wish I had body like her,” Sunny, smoking hot in a blue one-sleeved ensemble, said at the launch of “Super-Hot Sunny Mornings” on Sunday.

Everything seems to be going perfect for Priyanka Chopra these days.

  • MOVIE REVIEW : Hero | Nothing beats the Original

MOVIE REVIEW : Hero | Nothing beats the Original

STORY: Top cop Mathur’s daughter, Radha (Athiya Shetty) is kidnapped by Sooraj (Sooraj Pancholi), the protege of her father’s arch-rival. Cupid plays his part in making them fall in love. But, this volatile love story can never end in happiness. Do they give up on each other?

REVIEW: Hero is a delectable synthesis of startling onscreen beauty, dazzling high octane action, melodious music and merry froth. Each frame of the film has been done up with care which is evident in its striking visuals. However, the same doesn’t stand true for the story, which is incoherent and often convoluted.

Cut out from the same fabric as Subhash Ghai’s 1983 hit of the same name, director Nikhil Advani creates a similar effervescent ambience as the original, bubbling with the energy of its young debutants. Nikhil makes the narrative contemporary without turning it into a ramshackle (an inevitable fate of classics, when remade). The film has so much going in its favour, that the screenplay glitches can be pardoned.

Hero is fuzzy and moving. It has a leading man whose charm will make your heart skip a beat, a defiant damsel who is lovable and a story laden with commercial trappings of naach-gaana and maar-dhaar. The thunderous power-packed action sequences, especially the one in its climax, is pitch perfect and makes you feel the giddiness synonymous with Salman Khan films.

It is cleverly set – in picturesque locales. The affable chemistry of Sooraj and Athiya has a dash of inventiveness. For two newbies, the duo has a strong screen presence. Athiya is a natural and Sooraj owns the titular role with an effortless swagger. His skillful action makes him score over most debutants of recent times.

Sculpted as a full throttle masala entertainer, Hero is plot-heavy. And while you are well acquainted with the story, Nikhil and Salman’s sensibility works as midas touch, giving the film a different texture. It is slick and never allows its viewers to feel restless. For its 132 minutes’ crisp runtime, Hero offers bucketful of entertainment and victoriously conveys that commercial movies needn’t be puerile to show people a good time.

TITLE KATTI BATTI IS TOO CHILDISH: KANGANA RANAUT

In an interview with Bollywoodlife.com, Kangana revealed that she thinks the title of the film Katti Batti is too childish. She goes on to say that the film starts with a love story but the later part is very grey and dark she also informed that she wanted the film to have a darker title because according to her the title does not exactly convey the truth. the Katti Batti actress also asserted that the title is just supporting the marketing strategy of the film, which is of portraying the film as a bubbly love story. she further elaborated on her opinion saying that she also wanted a promo to be cut in which the darker part of the film would be shown, however the makers decided to go with this one and that she had to budge.

Imran Khan, who is gearing up for the release of his next, Katti Batti, has revealed that he initially did not like the script of the film, reports IANS.

“I troubled Nikhil a lot. When I first read the script, I did not get a hold of it. I called Nikhil straightaway and said I did not like it,” Imran said.

Talking about how Nikhil convinced him for the role when he did not like the script, Imran said, “Nikhil wanted me to let him narrate the story once more. As I was in a mood of not doing the movie, so I thought what difference would it make if he narrates. So I kept delaying it for one or two months. After so many ifs and buts and delaying, when Nikhil came to narrate the story, within 20 minutes I wondered if this is the same story I read before.”

Deepika: Dilwale, Bajirao Mastani have space to do well

Deepika Padukone feels the upcoming box office clash between her film Bajirao Mastani and Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale is exaggerated and the actress says both the movies have enough space to do well.

Dilwale and Deepika’s period drama are scheduled for release on December 18. “It is not as complicated as it is made to sound or written. It is very simple. The kind of film they are making and we are working on are very different from each other,” Deepika told reporters here at the launch of first song from Bajirao Mastani. “I think Bajirao Mastani is so consuming that we don’t have time to worry about who is doing what. We have our own deadlines. In the process, if some other films come I think there is enough space for both of them to come and do well.”

Bajirao Mastani, a love saga, also features Deepika’s Ram Leela co-star Ranveer Singh and actress Priyanka Chopra in lead roles. While Dilwale is a comedy-action film, directed by Rohit Shetty. It also stars Kajol, Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. Deepika, 29, said she does not understand box office statistics and her only concern is that her movie and Dilwale belong to different genres. “I am not a producer, I don’t understand the number of screens… the numbers and all that. All I know is that movie is different from our film,” she added. Bajirao Mastani reunites Deepika and Ranveer with their Ram Leela helmer Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

    ‘Masaan’ story, performances deeply heartfelt

Mumbai, Sep 10: Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur is impressed by Neeraj Ghaywan’s “Masaan” and says that the story and the performances were deeply heartfelt.

Kapur was spotted attending the screening of the film on Wednesday evening along with the movie’s leading actors Shweta Tripathi, Vicky Kaushal and director Ghaywan.

“A new wave in Indian cinema is back forcefully with films like #masaan. Deeply heartfelt story and performances,” the “Bandit Queen” director tweeted on Thursday morning.

“I wanted my characters to be like real life. Stars have their own baggage – it is not always easy to make them discard their mannerisms. “My shoots passed off uninterrupted without any actor being mobbed at any public place,” Neeraj, who had assisted Anurag Kashyap in Gangs of Wasseypur, told PTI.

“As a result, we could do away with any type of hierarchy on the sets and I wanted everyone to feel that all of us were equally behind the film’s making. It’s a team work,” he said.

The film follows a group of people living in Varanasi, which reserves a cruel punishment for those who play with moral traditions and bagged two awards at Cannes, including a debut director award for Ghaywan. (Bollywood Country Report)
