BAPS Charities hosts the 24th Annual Walkathon in Flushing

FLUSHING, NY (TIP): BAPS Charities hosted the 24th Annual Walkathon on May 31, 2026, at Kissena Park in Flushing, NY with over 650 participants supporting LiveOnNY organ procurement organization. They also celebrated 250 years of American Independence. Dr Vipul Patel and Shyam Patel of BAPS were main organizers.

The event started with American national anthem followed by speeches from guests and honorees. CEO of LiveOnNY Leonard Achan was the chief guest. Several guests and honorees attended the event. They included Flushing Hospital VP Catherine Ferreri and Director of Nursing Maria Smilios and Dr. Gagan Gulati, Desi correction Society Mariam Singh, Dr Hari Shukla, NYPD Community Affairs officer Ares Hung and Pratick Patel, Councilwoman Sandra Ung.

Dr. Shukla mentioned that 35% to 40% of adult population and 20% of children are obese. Ideally everyone has to walk 10,000 steps a day to stay healthy. Walking helps physically by reducing obesity related diseases; mentally, it helps by feeling good as exercise releases endorphins, Walking helps community by bringing people together and thereby increases community’s unity and strength.
