The makers of Cocktail 2 released the trailer of the film on Tuesday at an event in Mumbai. The video gives a glimpse into the modern love triangle directed by Homi Adajania and starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna. As the trailer suggests, the film offers romance, friendship and heartbreak against the backdrop of scenic Italian locales.
The three-minute-long video also brings back a touch of nostalgia from the original Cocktail (2012), which starred Deepika Padukone, Diana Penty and Saif Ali Khan in the lead.
Shahid, who plays a young man seemingly caught between dating a friend and befriending a date, sets the tone for the film early in the trailer. In a Hindi voiceover, he says, “Whenever a relationship is new, it’s exciting because it’s new. New friends are fun because their stories are fun for us.”
The story then moves to Italy, where the three protagonists are seen spending time together. While Shahid and Rashmika appear to share a romantic bond, Kriti’s character seems to be his close friend who gradually develops feelings for him, setting the stage for emotional complications.
As the story unfolds, tensions rise between the two women as both are shown competing for Shahid’s affection. What starts as friendship slowly turns into a complicated love triangle, pushing relationships to the edge.
In the final stretch of the trailer, the conflict escalates further with Kriti and Rashmika’s characters confronting each other over their future with Shahid, leaving his character torn between the two. Adding to the nostalgia factor is the inclusion of the popular track Tum Hi Ho Bandhu, a fan-favourite from the 2012 film.
Cocktail 2 serves as a spiritual successor to the 2012 romantic drama Cocktail, which starred Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and Diana Penty.
Cocktail followed the lives of Gautam (Saif Ali Khan), a carefree flirt, Meera (Diana Penty), a woman rebuilding her life after being abandoned by her husband, and Veronica (Deepika Padukone), a free-spirited party girl.
The three become unlikely friends and end up living together, but their bond is tested when Gautam falls for Meera despite being in a relationship with Veronica, leading to heartbreak and emotional turmoil.
The sequel is backed by producers Dinesh Vijan, Luv Ranjan, Pramita R Vijan and Ankur Garg, with music composed by Pritam.
