BUCHAREST (TIP): The Embassy of India in Bucharest organized a business interaction on the agri-food sector on 23 October 2026, bringing together representatives of Romania’s agricultural and food-processing industry and Indian businesses to explore opportunities for expanding bilateral trade, strengthening business partnerships and promoting investment cooperation.
The interaction underscored the significant potential for India and Romania to deepen their economic engagement in agriculture, food products and food processing. India’s diverse agricultural base, extensive food-processing capabilities and growing consumer market offer promising opportunities for Romanian businesses, while Romania’s position within the European Union provides an important gateway for Indian companies seeking to expand their presence in European markets. The meeting provided a valuable platform for connecting industry stakeholders, exchanging market insights and identifying avenues for business-to-business collaboration, technology exchange and investment. It also highlighted the importance of sustained engagement between businesses and industry associations in translating the complementarities between the two economies into concrete commercial partnerships.

Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania, delivered the opening remarks, highlighting the considerable potential for expanding India–Romania commercial relations through enhanced cooperation in the agri-food sector. He emphasized the importance of strengthening business-to-business linkages, facilitating greater market access and encouraging partnerships between Indian and Romanian enterprises.

He noted that India’s strong agricultural base, diverse food products and expanding food-processing capabilities offer promising opportunities for collaboration with Romanian businesses. He also underscored the scope for exploring new avenues of trade, investment, technology exchange and value-chain integration, and encouraged industry stakeholders from both countries to make use of such business interactions to identify concrete opportunities and develop mutually beneficial commercial partnerships.
A representative of the Forum of Professional Farmers and Processors from Romania also shared perspectives on the Romanian agricultural and food-processing industry, setting the stage for an exchange of views on potential areas of cooperation.

An important component of the programme was the promotion of Global Food Pro 2027, an international event dedicated to the global food industry, which will be held from 13 to 15 May 2027 at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), Bengaluru, India. The event aims to bring together stakeholders from across the global food value chain, with a focus on food and food processing, agri-food, trade and investment.
Mr. Vishal Acharya, Director of Global Food Pro 2027, and Dr. Jagat Shah made presentations highlighting the event and the opportunities it offers for international business engagement. The presentations outlined the potential for the exhibition to facilitate connections among food producers, processors, exporters, importers and investors, while enabling participants to explore new markets, establish commercial partnerships and identify investment opportunities. Romanian companies were encouraged to explore participation in Global Food Pro 2027 and engage with Indian counterparts to develop mutually beneficial business relationships.

The programme also featured presentations by Ms. Vasudha Bhogaraju, Managing Director of Bhogaraju Food, and Ms. Smita Katti, Managing Director of Honnigaa Eats, contributing to the discussion on business opportunities and engagement in the food sector. A question-and-answer session enabled participants to exchange views and discuss potential avenues for future collaboration.
The Embassy of India in Bucharest remains committed to strengthening India–Romania economic relations by facilitating industry engagement, promoting trade and investment opportunities, and encouraging greater participation of Romanian businesses in India’s growing agri-food sector. The Embassy looks forward to further engagement with Romanian industry stakeholders in the lead-up to Global Food Pro 2027, with a view to fostering sustainable and mutually beneficial commercial partnerships between the two countries.
