Healthy skin, naturally: Simple habits for a radiant look

Everyone wants skin that looks fresh, healthy and youthful. But with endless skincare advice, products and beauty trends competing for attention, knowing what your skin really needs can be difficult. The truth is that good skin does not always require an elaborate routine. Understanding your skin type and following a few simple, consistent habits can make a noticeable difference. Skin types generally include dry, oily, normal and combination, and each has its own requirements. However, the basics of good skincare remain largely the same: keep the skin clean, maintain its moisture, protect it from the sun and support it with a healthy lifestyle.
Cleanse Gently
Washing your face is an essential part of maintaining clean and healthy skin. Cleanse your face twice a day, preferably in the morning and before bedtime, with a mild cleanser suited to your skin type. Avoid washing your face too frequently, as this can remove the skin’s natural oils and leave it dry or irritated. Use lukewarm water rather than very hot or very cold water, and gently pat your face dry after cleansing.
Exfoliate With Care
Exfoliation helps remove dead skin cells and excess oil from the surface of the skin, leaving it feeling smoother. However, excessive exfoliation can cause irritation and weaken the skin’s protective barrier.
For most people, gentle exfoliation once or twice a week is enough. Those with sensitive skin should use extra caution and avoid aggressive scrubbing.
Keep Your Skin Moisturised
Moisturising is important for every skin type. A suitable moisturiser helps prevent moisture loss and supports the skin barrier.
Choose a product according to your skin’s needs. Dry skin may benefit from a richer cream, while oily or combination skin often feels more comfortable with a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturiser. Winter can be particularly harsh on the skin. Cold weather and dry indoor air can leave it rough, tight and flaky, making regular moisturising even more important.
Make Sunscreen a Daily Habit
Sun protection is one of the most important steps in any skincare routine. Long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation can contribute to premature ageing, pigmentation and wrinkles, while also increasing the risk of skin cancer.
Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to exposed skin before going outdoors. Make sunscreen part of your everyday routine rather than using it only during summer. UV rays can still affect the skin on cloudy days and during winter.
Give Your Lips Extra Care
The delicate skin on the lips can become dry and cracked, especially in cold or windy weather. Applying a moisturising lip balm regularly can help prevent chapping and keep the lips comfortable.
A lip balm with sun protection can provide additional protection during the day.
Add Moisture to Dry Air
Indoor heating and dry winter air can make the skin feel dehydrated and uncomfortable. A humidifier can increase moisture in the surrounding air and may help reduce dryness.
If you use one, clean it regularly and follow the manufacturer’s maintenance instructions to keep it hygienic.
