DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence to start shoot for Scorsese’s What Happens At Night

Filming for the upcoming film What Happens At Night, directed by Martin Scorsese and starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, is scheduled to begin next month, that is, in early 2026. The film is based on Peter Cameron’s novel and will bring together DiCaprio and Lawrence for the first time, with the story rooted in psychological thriller and gothic drama elements. The project is a collaboration between Apple Original Films and Studiocanal.
The film’s narrative follows an unnamed American couple who travel to a remote, snow-blanketed European town to adopt a baby. Upon their arrival, they stay at a vast, largely empty hotel, where they encounter a range of unusual characters such as a flamboyant singer, a corrupt businessman, and a mysterious faith healer. These interactions contribute to the unsettling and surreal atmosphere that defines the couple’s experience.
As the adoption process unfolds, the couple’s journey becomes increasingly complex and disorienting. The boundaries between reality and illusion start to blur, affecting the couple’s emotional and psychological states. The wife’s battle with cancer adds another dimension to the narrative, exploring themes of vulnerability, mortality, and the search for meaning.
