Robert Redford, star of Hollywood classics including Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting and All the President’s Men, has died aged 89. In a statement, his publicist Cindi Berger said the actor died on Tuesday, Sept 16, at his home “at Sundance in the mountains of Utah – the place he loved, surrounded by those he loved”.
“He will be missed greatly,” Berger said, adding that Redford’s family are requesting privacy.
Redford was one of the defining movie stars of the 1970s, crossing with ease between the Hollywood new wave and the mainstream film industry, before also becoming an Oscar-winning director and producer in the ensuing decades. He played a key role in the establishment of American independent cinema by co-founding the Sundance film festival, which acted as a platform for films such as Reservoir Dogs, The Blair Witch Project, Donnie Darko, Fruitvale Station and Coda.
Redford also acquired a reputation as one of Hollywood’s leading liberals and campaigned on environmental issues, including acting as a trustee of the Natural Resources Defense Council advocacy group and vocally opposing the now cancelled Keystone XL pipeline extension.
Born Charles Robert Redford in 1936, he grew up in Los Angeles and, after he was expelled from the University of Colorado, studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After playing a series of small parts on TV, stage and film, he began to make headway in the early 60s, being nominated for a best supporting actor Emmy in 1962 for The Voice of Charlie Pont and winning a lead role in the original 1963 Broadway production of Neil Simon’s hit play Barefoot in the Park. Redford’s film breakthrough arrived in 1965: an eye-catching role as a bisexual film star in Inside Daisy Clover opposite Natalie Wood, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe.
After a series of solid Hollywood films, including The Chase and a screen adaptation of Barefoot in the Park, Redford had a huge hit with the 1969 outlaw western Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, in which he starred opposite Paul Newman and Katharine Ross. It was nominated for seven Oscars, though none were for the actors.
Redford starred in Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here, the first directing credit in over 20 years by former blacklistee Abraham Polonsky, and then a string of key 1970s hits: frontier western Jeremiah Johnson (1972), period romance The Way We Were (1973) opposite Barbra Streisand, crime comedy The Sting (1973), again opposite Newman, and literary adaptation The Great Gatsby (1974). Redford followed these up with conspiracy thriller Three Days of the Condor (1975) and Watergate drama All the President’s Men (1976), co-starring with Dustin Hoffman.
After a prolonged break from acting in the late 70s, Redford turned to directing with the ensemble drama Ordinary People, adapted from the novel by Judith Guest. A substantial hit, it won four Oscars in 1981, including best picture and best director for Redford – an accolade he never received for his acting.
His success as an actor continued in the 1980s and 1990s, though perhaps with less of the cutting-edge impact of his 1970s work. Baseball drama The Natural, adapted from a Bernard Malamud novel in 1984, was followed by Out of Africa in 1985, in which he played big game hunter Denys Finch Hatton opposite Meryl Streep’s Danish aristocrat. He returned to directing with The Milagro Beanfield War in 1988 and A River Runs Through It in 1992, both grappling in different ways with rural America. A year later he made what in retrospect was something of a turning point: an unalloyed Hollywood project, the erotic thriller Indecent Proposal, in which his businessman character offers a million dollars to sleep with Demi Moore’s character. It re-established Redford as a commercial force. Later in the 90s he directed Quiz Show and The Horse Whisperer (the latter of which he also starred in).

Famke Janssen will star as the lead in the upcoming post-apocalyptic film, One Second After, reported Variety. Janssen is known for her role as Jean Grey in the X-Men film series.
One Second After will be directed by Scott Rogers, from a script written by J Michael Straczynski. The film will be produced by Rob Pfaltzgraff, Nick Reid, and Matt Kennedy. MPI Original Films and Startling Inc are the banners backing the film. The rest of the cast of One Second After includes Josh Holloway, who was seen in Yellowstone and Lost, and Hannah John-Kamen, who recently reprised the her role of Ava Starr/Ghost in Marvel’s Thunderbolts*. She played the role first in Ant-Man and The Wasp.
Apart from the X-Men films Janssen has also starred as Lenore in the Taken trilogy, alongside Liam Neeson and Maggie Grace. She also starred as Xenia Onatopp in Goldeneye, which starred Pierce Brosnan as James Bond.

Actor Amanda Seyfried has come forward to defend herself from backlash after calling conservative activist Charlie Kirk “hateful” in a comment posted on Instagram after his assassination.
Just days after Charlie Kirk was shot in the neck during an event in Utah earlier this month, an Instagram video from the account @So.Informed posted a video which highlighted several controversial remarks that Charlie Kirk had made about immigration, trans rights, and more.
The actor had responded to the Instagram post. “He was hateful,” the Mamma Mia! actor wrote in the comment section.
Amanda had also seemingly commented on Charlie Kirk’s death by resharing a message via her Instagram Stories that read, “You can’t invite violence to the dinner table and be shocked when it starts eating.”
The actor was getting slammed by her activity on social media, which prompted her to address the hate coming her way and clarify her remark in a separate Instagram post.
“I don’t want to add fuel to a fire. I just want to be able to give clarity to something so irresponsibly (but understandably) taken out of context. Spirited discourse- isn’t that what we should be having?” Amanda wrote in the caption while sharing a note.
Defending her views, Amanda wrote in her note, “We’re forgetting the nuance of humanity. I can get angry about misogyny and racist rhetoric and ALSO very much agree that Charlie Kirk’s murder was absolutely disturbing and deplorable in every way imaginable.”
“No one should have to experience this level of violence. This country is grieving too many senseless and violent deaths and shootings. Can we agree on that at least?” she added.
Charlie Kirk was fatally shot on September 10, when he was speaking at an event at Utah Valley University in Orem. A 22-year-old man from Utah, Tyler Robinson, has been arrested but the motive remains unclear except that police say Robinson held a deep disdain for Kirk’s far-right political views that often attracted allegations of racism.
In a historic level of government recognition, US President Donald Trump has announced to posthumously award Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honour given by the United States. He also ordered flags to be flown at half-staff and sent the Vice President to accompany his casket, unusual for a non-elected official. In the aftermath of the assassination, Jimmy Kimmel’s show is being pulled by ABC, following remarks the comedian made about Tyler Robinson.

When love meets laughter, even wedding talk turns into comedy gold. That’s exactly what happened when Selena Gomez dropped by ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ this week.
The 33-year-old singer and actress, glowing with happiness, couldn’t stop smiling as she spoke about her upcoming wedding with fiancé Benny Blanco.
Selena Gomez, joined on the show by her ‘Only Murders in the Building’ co-stars Martin Short and Steve Martin, gave fans a small but joyful glimpse into her big day. Fallon couldn’t resist asking her about the wedding, and Selena, with her usual charm, said, “It’s wonderful, I’m very lucky. It’s going well, I’m so excited.”
When asked if Short and Martin would be invited, Selena quipped, “Course they are; Marty’s the ring bearer.”
Short didn’t miss a beat. He dramatically pretended to hold out the ring in a “Lord of the Rings” fashion, announcing, “Here’s your ring, Selena. Take it.”
And the jokes didn’t stop there. Short went on to tease, “We are all so excited because we love this lady and we love her fiancé, Bad Bunny.”
Selena immediately burst out laughing and corrected him: “Benny Blanco!”
Earlier this year, comedian and actor Martin Short openly praised her relationship. On Amy Poehler’s ‘Good Hang’ podcast, he called Benny Blanco “fabulous” and described him as “one of the great, cool guys… funny and loose,” adding that Selena truly adores him.
And of course, fans can’t forget the excitement from Selena’s best friend Taylor Swift. Right after the engagement news broke last December, Taylor cheekily commented on Instagram, “Yes I will be the flower girl.”

The trailer of Lynne Ramsay’s dark psychological drama ‘Die My Love’ was recently released. The film, featuring actors Robert Pattinson and Jenneifer Lawrence shows a woman having trouble adjusting to motherhood.
The trailer initially starts with Lawrence and Pattinson as a happy couple who are very much in love. However, the tone of the movie later shifts to melodramatic, intense and dark. Set in rural Montana, Pattinson is portrayed as a not-always-helpful husband in this intense psychological drama.
Actors Sissy Spacek, Nick Nolte and LaKeith Stanfield also play key roles in the upcoming film. The dark theme of the promo indicates that the film delves into themes of post-partum depression, psychosis or borderline personality disorder.
‘Die My Love’ premiered in competition at Cannes Film Festival in May 2025. Distributor and streaming service provider Mubi bought distribution rights for the film in a major deal totalling $24 million, landing rights for North America and various international territories, reported by Variety. The acquisition came a year after Mubi bought ‘The Substance’ (2024) ahead of its Cannes premiere. The body-horror film featuring actors Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley was nominated in five categories at the 97th Academy Awards in 2025. Interestingly, both, ‘The Substance’ and ‘Die My Love’ are backed by Universal Pictures. Director Martin Scorsese, who was an executive producer for the former, is also credited as the producer in Pattinson-Lawrence Psychosis drama.

Actor Eric Stonestreet, widely known for his role as Cam on ‘Modern Family’, has married his long-time girlfriend and paediatric nurse Lindsay Schweitzer in a heartfelt ceremony surrounded by close friends and family. The couple, who have been together since 2017, shared glimpses of their special day on Instagram, giving fans a glimpse into their intimate celebration.
The 54-year-old actor posted several snapshots from the wedding, including moments from the aisle walk and their first dance. The ceremony took place on September 8, 2025, at the couple’s dream home in Kansas City, Missouri – a location they had often described as perfect for the occasion.
Interestingly, the wedding date fell between their birthdays. Stonestreet playfully captioned one of the posts, “It’s my birthday and guess what I got,” followed by, “I got married! A new viral clip has captured Anne Hathaway winning hearts yet again, this time for her calm but firm exchange with paparazzi on the sets of her upcoming film ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’.
In the video, shared by People, Hathaway is seen addressing the photographers who were bickering near the set. With her trademark poise, she reminded them of the young actors present, urging them to keep the atmosphere respectful.
“You guys have got to relax. There are children on set today. Does everyone know that there are children on set? Everyone’s going to relax. We are going to have a very nice evening because we have children here. Thank you,” Hathaway can be heard saying in the clip. Fans flooded social media with praise for her grace under pressure, calling her “classy” and even reviving her royal moniker, “Princess of Genovia” – a nod to her breakout role in ‘The Princess Diaries’.

‘Devil Wears Prada 2’, one of the most anticipated sequels in recent memory, will reunite the iconic original cast. Meryl Streep returns as the formidable Miranda Priestly, while Hathaway and Emily Blunt reprise their roles, taking forward the story of the beloved 2006 hit.

Director Yorgos Lanthimos and actor Emma Stone have reunited for their latest project, a sci-fi black comedy titled ‘Bugonia’. The official trailer, recently released by Focus Features, features Emma in a striking bald look. This marks her fourth collaboration with Lanthimos after ‘The Favourite’, ‘Poor Things’, and ‘Kinds of Kindness’.
The trailer begins with Michelle Fuller, played by Stone, entering a building, intercut with snapshots of magazine covers she has posed for. Over this, her voice is heard saying, “I believe every company should strive to form a diverse table. To empower people of different skills” as Chappell Roan’s hit track ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ plays in the background.
The two-minute clip then reveals the darker turn in Michelle’s story – she is kidnapped by two men who suspect she is an alien plotting to destroy Earth. Locked away in an underground bunker, her head is forcibly shaved as she fights to outwit her captors.
Sharing the trailer on YouTube, Focus Features wrote, “BUGONIA. Watch the official trailer now. A Yorgos Lanthimos film, starring Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons. Only in theaters October 24 (sic).”
Alongside Stone, the film stars Jesse Plemons and Aidan Delbis as the kidnappers, with Alicia Silverstone and Stavros Halkias playing key roles. Both Stone and Lanthimos serve as co-producers, joined by Ed Guiney, Andrew Lowe, Ari Aster, Lars Knudsen, Miky Lee, and Jerry Kyoungboum Ko.
‘Bugonia’ premiered at the Venice Film Festival on August 28. It is set for a limited theatrical release on October 24, followed by a wide release on October 31.

The second trailer of ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ was recently released. The upcoming romantic fantasy features actors Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell in lead roles.
The film depicts the story of Sarah (Robbie) and David (Farrell), two strangers whose lives become mysteriously intertwined, leading them on an extraordinary journey of connection, chance, and destiny. The new trailer teases about the power of faith in the impossible and the invisible threads of destiny that connect us. Sarah and David’s captivating journey depicts the unique connections between people amid life altering experiences.
While speaking about the film Farrell shared, “The film is a heart opener. It is not afraid to look at some of the more painful aspects of life and experiences that we all share, of love and loss, but it is always angling towards light. If audiences could come out of the film feeling a sense of hope and reflecting on their own lives, that would be a really beautiful thing. Margot’s got her own very particular magic, depth, beauty of spirit. It translates to everything she does, of course. While appreciating the stunning visuals and romantic aspects of the movie, Robbie added, “The film is a visual spectacle. It’s beautiful and magical and surreal and incredibly romantic. I think audiences will have a magical experience watching it. Kogonada is a true artist, and I’ve been dying to work with Colin for years. He’s unbelievable.”
‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ is directed by Kogonada. The film also features Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Hamish Linklater, Billy Magnussen, Sarah Gadon, Brandon Perea, Yuvi Hecht, and Lucy Thomas in key roles.
Farrell last featured in the DC Comics series ‘The Penguin’. He played the titular role in the show based on the iconic arch rival of Batman.

Kylie Jenner and Timothee Chalamet had been at the centre of swirling breakup rumours after fans noticed his absence from the beauty mogul’s 28th birthday celebrations and pointed to her cryptic social media music choices. However, the couple silenced the chatter when they were captured together in Budapest, where Chalamet is currently shooting for his upcoming film ‘Dune: Part Three’.
The pair was clicked, enjoying a casual coffee date in Budapest, Hungary. A local caf, Budapest Baristas, shared a selfie of Jenner and Chalamet. The caption read, “Today, Kylie Jenner and Timothe Chalamet just walked into our coffee shop at Buda. We were so in confusion, we could barely concentrate, but I think you can see on our face, Thank god everyone looks at them, not us.” The staff also praised the duo for being “super nice and kind”.

Actor Millie Bobby Brown and her husband Jake Bongiovi have embraced parenthood. The 21-year-old actor and her 23-year-old husband announced in a joint Instagram statement that they have adopted a baby girl.
In their announcement, Millie and Jake wrote, “This summer, we welcomed our sweet baby girl through adoption. We are beyond excited to embark on this beautiful next chapter of parenthood in both peace and privacy.” They ended their message with, “And then there were 3. Love, Millie and Jake Bongiovi (sic).”
In March, Brown expressed her desire to start a family with Bongiovi, recalling how her own parents became parents at a young age. Speaking on the SmartLess podcast, she shared, “My mom actually had her first child at 21, and my dad was 19. This has been my dream since before I met Jake,” adding, “I wanted to be a mom in the same way my mom was to me.”
She added, “Jake knows how important it is to me. Like, of course I want to focus on really establishing myself as an actor and as a producer but I also find it’s so important to start a family for me personally.”
Brown also expressed openness to adoption, sharing, “For me, I don’t see having your own child as really any different as adopting.”

Nicole Kidman’s latest solo appearance for the Portugal residency application has led to divorce rumors, reported Radar Online. A source close to the portal told the news outlet that the Oscar-winning actress is “set on building a whole other life in Europe,” adding that husband Keith Urban “will not be a part of it.”
On Nicole Kidman’s 19 years of marriage with Keith Urban, the source added, “It’s no secret they have juggled long-distance for years, but going ahead to Portugal without Keith is a bold signal that things are not good between them.”
The residential application filed by Nicole Kidman at the Portuguese Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum only features her name, the Radar Online report mentioned. She is reportedly planning to buy a luxury home in the exclusive Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club Resort.
Meanwhile, People Magazine had reported that Keith Urban could not accompany the Eyes Wide Shut actress to the mandatory in-person immigration meetings due to his current US Tour.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s friends are in shock after listening to the divorce rumors, the Radar Online report added.
“Friends were stunned. They’ve built their reputation on having this unshakable marriage, so Nicole taking such a big step without Keith is setting off alarm bells. They may still smile for the cameras, but behind closed doors, things seem far less straightforward,” a source was quoted as saying.

And no, this isn’t her first rodeo. After ten previous nominations, Beyoncé has finally won her first-ever Primetime Emmy Award, thanks to her show-stopping Netflix special, Beyonce Bowl.
The special captured her unforgettable 2024 NFL Christmas Day halftime performance during the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans game. On August 13, the Television Academy announced the first set of winners for the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in juried categories, including Animation, Costume, Emerging Media Programming and Motion Design. This is where Beyonce’s win came in the category of Outstanding Costumes for Variety, Nonfiction, or Reality Programming. This category was decided by peer panels rather than through the usual nomination and voting process.
Her victory, however, sparked divided opinions online. While fans flooded social media with support, detractors weren’t holding back. “Always find a way to give her things,” one comment on X read. Another accused, “This award is so rigged.” Some went further, saying, “They just be doing anything for her,” while one user asked, “Does she really deserve it?” Harsh words like “She stole that” and “Another bought award Gheez” also made the rounds.

Jennifer Aniston revealed that she grieved for her Friends fellow actor Matthew Perry for a “long time” prior to his death in 2023 from a drug overdose. The 56-year-old Aniston costarred with Perry as Chandler Bing in the popular comedy series from September 1994 to May 2004. After Friends ended, they stayed close for years.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Aniston described her efforts to support Perry throughout his battle with addiction, saying “We did everything we could when we could.”
“But it almost felt like we’d been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight,” the actress continued.
Explaining the difficult time and grief in wake of his demise, she described the situation “As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there’s a part of me that thinks this is better. I’m glad he’s out of that pain.”
Five persons, including two doctors and a dealer known as the “ketamine queen”, were charged in connection with Perry’s overdose following an inquiry into his death.
Perry talked candidly about his three-decade battle with addiction, which led to 15 visits to rehab during his lifetime and several near-death situations.
In his moving 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry wrote that Friends viewers will be able to determine whether he was using drugs or alcohol “from season to season” by “gauging” his weight and monitoring his facial hair during the show.
“When I’m carrying weight, it’s alcohol; when I’m skinny, it’s pills; when I have a goatee, it’s a lot of pills,” he stated.
After Perry’s passing, Friends lead cast members issued a joint statement to to People, stressing that they are “utterly devastated”.
“We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”
