HOLTSVILLE, NY (TIP): Dr. Raj Shah, Director of Koehler instrument Company, has received the National Lubricating Grease Institute’s (NLGI) Achievement Award, the organization’s highest individual honor, presented at its annual meeting in Palm Springs, California.
The award recognizes Shah’s nearly three decades of involvement with NLGI, where he has served on the board of directors and contributed to its technical committees, educational initiatives, editorial work, and international outreach. Over his career, Shah has authored or co-authored more than 850 publication and edited or co-edited six books covering fuels, lubricants, greases petroleum testing, tribology, and analytical instrumentation – including the NLGI Lubricating Grease Guide and the ASTM Fuels and Lubricants Handbook.
Shah has spent nearly 30 years at Koehler Instrument, a Holtsville – based manufacturer of laboratory instruments used across the petroleum, petrochemical, fuels, and lubricants industries. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Stony Brook University, mentoring engineering students and bridging academia and industry. He earned his PH.D. in chemical engineering from Penn State University after completing his bachelor’s degree at the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai.
In his acceptance remarks, Shah reflected on the humility of his field, noting that grease itself works quietly and rarely gets credit – a fitting parallel, he said, for the community that shaped his career.
The honor adds to a long list of recognitions for shah, who has previously received NLGI’s Clarence E. Earle Memorial Award and Golden Grease Gun Award, underscoring the East Coast’s growing bench of Indian – American leaders driving American manufacturing and materials science forward.
