Indian American Sabih Khan Appointed Apple Chief Operating Officer

Sabih Khan has been appointed Chief Operating Officer at Apple.

CUPERTINO, CA (TIP): Apple Inc. announced this week that Sabih Khan, a 30year veteran of the company, has been appointed Chief Operating Officer, effective later this month. He will succeed Jeff Williams, who is set to retire by the end of the year.

Khan, 58, joined Apple in 1995 after working at GE Plastics as an applications development engineer and key account technical leader. He has served as Senior Vice President of Operations since June 2019, overseeing Apple’s global supply chain, manufacturing, logistics, and supplier responsibility programs.
Apple CEO Tim Cook praised Khan as “a brilliant strategist” and “one of the central architects of Apple’s supply chain,” noting that his leadership has been instrumental in expanding Apple’s manufacturing footprint in the United States and advancing environmental sustainability initiatives.
Williams, who has held the COO position since 2015, will oversee Apple’s design and health-unit teams before retiring later this year. Once he departs, design operations will report directly to Cook.
Khan holds bachelor’s degrees in mechanical engineering and economics from Tufts University and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Born in 1966 in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, he moved with his family to Singapore and later to the United States.
His elevation comes as Apple navigates geopolitical challenges, including U.S.–China trade tensions and pressure to diversify manufacturing. In response, Apple plans to shift a substantial portion of iPhone production to India by next year.
