New Delhi (TIP)-Thwarting Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) bid to strengthen their playoff chances in match No.56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Sanju Samson’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) registered a massive win over the two-time champions at the Eden Gardens on Thursday. Yashasvi Jaiswal-inspired RR side crushed Nitish Rana’s KKR to remain in the playoff race of the ongoing season. Opener Jaiswal slammed a record-breaking half-century to make sure RR upstage KKR in a one-sided contest at Eden Gardens.
Jaiswal played a sublime knock of 98 off 47 balls while RR captain Samson chipped in with a crucial 29-ball 48 as the 2008 champions hammered the hosts by 9 wickets at Kolkata. With the impressive win over the former champions, Samson’s RR side has climbed to the third spot on the IPL 2023 points table. Champions in the 2008 edition of the elite tournament, RR are only three points behind second-placed Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who are expected to enter the business end of the competition with defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) this season. Samson’s RR side has enhanced their Net Run Rate (NRR) to 0.633 after completing the run-chase in 13.1 overs. Third-placed RR are followed by record-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2023 standings. KKR are placed seventh in the standings and Rana’s men can only finish the season with a maximum of 14 points. Sixth-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are only two points behind RR and MI on the IPL 2023 points table. RR and MI are only a point ahead of fifth-placed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the current standings.
On Friday, Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians will meet Gujarat Titans in match No. 57 of the IPL 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium. The record-time winners can secure 16 points even if they end up losing to GT at home. MI will then have to win their remaining two matches after the home game against GT. RCB and Punjab Kings can also accumulate 16 points each this season. Thus, MI can remain in the fray for a top-two finish if Rohit’s men win all of their remaining three league games this season. If they suffer two defeats in their last three matches, MI will have to rely on other results going in their favour.

IPL 2023 : KKR keep themselves in the hunt as SRH’s fortunes dip
Hyderabad (TIP)– The self-destructing batters let Sunrisers Hyderabad down again to hand Kolkata Knight Riders a much-needed five-run win in the IPL here on May 4.
Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh came up with a fruitful 61-run partnership to help Kolkata post 171/9 and then their bowlers, especially Shardul Thakur (2/23) and Vaibhav Arora (2/32), helped the two-time IPL champions limit Hyderabad to 166/8 in 20 overs.
Varun Chakravarthy bowled a brilliant last over to eke out a win for his team.
Kolkata earned their fourth victory of the season and are now on eight points, while Hyderabad, who remained stranded on six points, suffered a huge blow to their chances of making the playoffs. It was a hard-fought for Kolkata, given that Hyderabad’s South African pair of skipper Aiden Markram (41 off 40 balls) and Heinrich Klaasen (36 off 20 balls) had at one point looked to take the match away with their 70-run partnership.
Brief scores: KKR: 171/9 in 20 overs (Rinku 46, Rana 42; Jansen 2/24); SRH: 166/8 in 20 overs (Markram 41; Thakur 2/23).
Top spot at stake as RR take on GT
Jaipur: Gujarat Titans will be eager to better their underwhelming batting display when they take on an inconsistent Rajasthan Royals in the IPL here tomorrow. Both teams are coming off losses and will look to get back to winning ways. Gujarat are perched atop the points table with 12 points despite their five-run loss to Delhi Capitals, while Rajasthan are fourth with 10 points. The Sanju Samson-led side has ample talent but has been unable to hold on to their winning run recently. They have lost three games and won as many in their last six fixtures. In their last match against Mumbai Indians, their bowling department failed to defend 212. Pace spearhead Trent Boult, all-rounder Jason Holder, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Sen all bled runs. However, Rajasthan can take some solace from the fact that they emerged victorious earlier in the season against Gujarat. Source: PTI -

IPL: All-round show helps KKR thrash RCB by 81 runs
KOLKATA (TIP)- Shardul Thakur smashed a counter-attacking half-century before the spinners played their part to perfection as Kolkata Knight Riders made a memorable homecoming with an 81-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL here on Thursday, April 6. KKR found themselves tottering for 89/5 before Thakur led a superb recovery with his 29-ball 68 to power his team to 204/7 after RCB opted to bowl.
Coming in at No 7, Thakur hammered the joint-fastest fifty of the season off 20 balls and shared an entertaining 103-run wicket partnership off 47 balls with Rinku Singh (46 off 33).
In reply, RCB failed to last the distance and folded up for 123 in 17.4 overs with the trio of Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine and debutant Suyash Sharma sharing eight wickets between themselves. It was KKR’s first win of the season. Thakur also took one wicket in his all-round show in KKR’s first home match after almost four years.
RCB were going great guns at 44 no loss in 25 balls in pursuit of the big chase before the Sunil Narine triggered the collapse, foxing Virat Kohli (21; 18b) with a beauty in his 150th IPL match. Chakravarthy then gave a double blow dismissing Glenn Maxwell (5) and Harshal Patel (0) in three balls before ending with splendid figures of 3.4-0-15-4. Thereafter, it was 19-year-old leg-spinner Suyash Sharma (4-0-30-3) who made a dream debut after being included as an impact player in place of Venkatesh Iyer.
The long-haired mystery spinner got two wickets in one over to have KKR reeling at 86/8.
Suyash got his maiden wicket when he deceived Anju Rawat (1) with a tossed up delivery and in space of three balls, he grabbed the prized-scalp of Dinesh Karthik (9) with a fuller delivery. Fresh from his 82 not out against Mumbai Indians, Kohli teed off in style, scoring a boundary off the first ball of the innings against Umesh Yadav.
At 42 for no loss, the RCB opening duo looked set for another easy chase when Narine triggered the collapse, cleaning up Kohli with a beauty. The star Indian completely missed the line as the ball sharply turned in to knock his stumps. Earlier, David Willey (4-1-16-2) and Karn Sharma (3-0-26-2) took wickets off successive deliveries in powerplay and middle overs respectively to give RCB the initial edge.
But RCB frittered away the start with Rahmanullah Gurbaz first taking the charge against a wayward Akash Deep en route to his 44-ball 57, his maiden IPL fifty. It turned from bad to worse for KKR when a reverse-sweeping Nitish Rana (1) got out following a good review from RCB in the very first ball after powerplay.
KKR looked in trouble at 47/3 but Gurbaz led the charge against the ‘local’ Bengal pacer Akash Deep, pulling him for a six before collecting back-to-back boundaries.

IPL: Delhi Capitals beat Kolkata by four wickets
Mumbai (TIP)- Delhi Capitals survived a scare before recording a comfortable four-wicket victory over a lacklustre Kolkata Knight Riders here on April 28 and kept their IPL playoffs qualification hopes alive.
Chasing an easy target of 147, DC were 84/5 and 113/6 at various stages of the innings before Rovman Powell (33 not out) once again displayed his big-hitting prowess to get DC past the target with an over to spare. The hero of the win certainly was Kuldeep Yadav, with a game-changing 4/14 when KKR batted. Defending a total of 146 wasn’t easy but Umesh Yadav (3/24) did try his best as he started brilliantly with a diving return catch off the very first delivery of the DC innings to sent Prithvi Shaw (0) back. David Warner (42 off 26 balls) was in fine touch, adding 65 for the third wicket with Lalit Yadav (22 off 22 balls), as DC cruised along at 82/2. But it soon became 84/5 as both the set batters were removed in quick succession and KKR were allowed to come back into the game.
Rashid Khan’s last-ball 6 trumps Umran Malik’s 5
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Umran Malik tore through the Gujarat Titans top-order with his searing pace but the IPL debutant team still got over the line after some late fireworks from Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan. In pursuit of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s 195/6, Titans were off to a flyer with Wriddhiman Saha (68) blazing his way to a flurry of boundaries while putting on 69 runs for the first wicket with Shubman Gill (22). Kane Williamson, as a last resort, introduced Malik into the attack in the eighth over. The youngster provided the breakthrough by bowling out Gill. Malik followed it up by dismissing the dangerous Hardik Pandya and Saha before bowling out David Miller and Abhinav Manohar off successive deliveries. The youngster from Jammu & Kashmir finished with incredible figures of 5/25, four of which were bowled, to take Sunrisers to the brink of a sixth successive win. But Tewatia (40 not out off 21 balls) and Khan (31 not out off 11) had other ideas. The duo knocked off the required 56 runs off the last 24 balls. Khan hit three of his four sixes in the last over, including one over the fine-leg boundary off the last ball. Earlier, opener Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram struck sparkling half-centuries as Sunrisers Hyderabad posted 195/6 after being asked to bat first. Abhishek blazed away to 65 off 42 deliveries, while Markram made a 40-ball 56.
Rajasthan Royals beat Royal Challengers Bangalore
Riyan Parag smashed a match-defining half-century before the bowling unit lived up to its reputation to hand Rajasthan Royals a 29-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in an Indian Premier League match here today.
Parag single-handedly took his side to 144/8 with his unbeaten 56 off 31 balls, which is his highest score in IPL. He struck three fours and four sixes. Parag marshalled the RR lower-order brilliantly.
RCB’s chase never got going as RR bowlers, led by young Kuldeep Sen (4/20), Ravichandran Ashwin (3/17) and Prasidh Krishna (2/23), bundled out the Faf du Plessis-side for 115 in 19.3 overs. Opening the innings on the back of two consecutive first-ball ducks, Virat Kohli started on a cagey note but lit up the stadium and raised hopes of his fans when he struck two back-to-back boundaries off Trent Boult to start his innings.

Shikhar Dhawan takes back Orange Cap, Prithvi Shaw rises to third position
Shikhar Dhawan returned to the top of the Orange Cap table after scoring 46 in Delhi Capitals’ (DC) seven-wicket win over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhawan took 47 balls to score his 46 but played the perfect foil to his opening partner Prithvi Shaw, who scored 82 off 41 balls. The pair shared an opening partnership of 132 runs in 14 overs, putting DC in control in their chase of a target of 155. Dhawan’s tally for the season stands at 311 while second-placed Faf du Plessis of Chennai Super Kings is on 270. Shaw, meanwhile, entered the top three of the Orange Cap standings, with his total run tally of 270 putting him one run ahead of Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul.
