    • By Mabel Pais

AVERY SUNSHINE, 2025 GRAMMY® winner will captivate audiences with her smooth, vibrant, radiating power and joyful vocal music at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center on January 16, 2026.

Join in the celebration of Avery Sunshine’s GRAMMY® win! She was honored with the award for Best Progressive R&B Album in 2025 for her latest project, ‘So Glad to Know You’ (SGTKY). The GRAMMY® awards will be presented on February 1, 2026.

Be enchanted by Avery’s incredible voice — smooth, vibrant, and filled with power and joy. Her original songs are inspired by ’90s R&B, gospel, jazz, and neo-soul, all infused with contemporary lyrics. When Avery Sunshine sings, everyone shines. Her sound is uplifting and vibrant, perfectly embodying her name — filled with sunshine. She brings people together through her captivating stage performances, frank and often humorous banter, and uplifting anthems about love and life.

Born Denise White in Chester, Pennsylvania, her musical roots are deeply embedded in the church. Together with her Grammy Award-winning creative partner, Dana “BigDane” Johnson, who is a singer, pianist, and composer, Avery has crafted an unforgettable sound.

Avery’s signature soulful R&B style has earned her accolades from legendary artists, including Aretha Franklin, who exclaimed, “I love Avery Sunshine!” She has also received praise from icons such as Patti LaBelle, Berry Gordy, and Boy George, who expressed on Twitter, “@averysunshine love this woman’s voice.” Most recognized for her #1 Billboard chart hit single “Call My Name” from her acclaimed sophomore album *The Sunroom*, Avery and Dana were honored with ASCAP’s Rhythm and Soul Song of the Year Award.

Among her numerous awards and nominations are nods for both the Soul Train Award and the BET Centric Award. Avery has achieved significant milestones in her career, including sold-out shows, a UK tour opening for the late B.B. King, a performance on The Jools Holland Show, and four top 20 Billboard hits in the Hot Adult R&B category. As an endorsed artist with the Yamaha Entertainment family, she was honored to perform multiple times for and alongside the late Aretha Franklin.

LADINO DAY, around the world since 2013, has been celebrated to honor the Ladino, the Judeo-Spanish, community. While the number of Ladino speakers has sharply declined, distinguished Ladino Day programs like that of the American Sephardic Federation celebrate and preserve a vibrant language and heritage. These programs are, as Aviya Kushner has written in the Forward, “Why Ladino Will Rise Again.”

NJPAC CONTINUES TO ‘STAND IN SOLIDARITY’ WITH THE COMMUNITY IN 2026

    • By Mabel Pais

The topic of affordable housing is back in 2026 by popular demand from participants in last year’s ‘Standing in Solidarity’ season.

In 2024, new legislation was introduced that requires every town in New Jersey to build its fair share of low-income housing. But what does this mean for families — will they find a warm welcome, and viable housing options, in every municipality? Or might local politics in some towns potentially stymie the building of affordable homes?

The evening includes a screening of the PSEG Social Impact film ‘City Rising: Gentrification and Displacement,’ a PBS documentary series exploring the impact of discriminatory laws on the country’s housing crisis.

  • BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA DELIVER THE GIFT OF JOY

BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA DELIVER THE GIFT OF JOY

    • By Mabel Pais

The BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA deliver the gift of joy at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Sunday, December 21 at 3PM.

In this uplifting holiday show, the GRAMMY®-winning gospel legends perform Christmas classics and songs from their albums ‘Go Tell It on the Mountain’ and ‘Talkin’ Christmas.’ You’ll be singing and clapping along with the spirit of the season.

Hailed as “gospel titans” by Rolling Stone, the Blind Boys of Alabama defied the considerable odds stacked against them in the segregated south, working their way up from singing for pocket change to performing for three different American presidents. Inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 2003, the group has won five Grammy Awards for their albums (plus a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award), received a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, and collaborated with artists as diverse as Mavis Staples, Stevie Wonder, Chrissie Hynde, Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel, Bonnie Raitt, and Bon Iver. Beyond the group’s considerable commercial success, the artistic influence the Blind Boys imparted onto their contemporaries and the generations of gospel, rock, and soul singers who followed is immeasurable.

The New York Times explained that in their earlier years, the band “came to epitomize what is known as jubilee singing, a livelier breed of gospel music,” adding that “they made it zestier still by adding jazz and blues idioms and turning up the volume, creating a sound…like the rock ‘n’ roll that grew out of it.” TIME raved that the group has always been “hunting for—and finding—the perfect note or harmony that lifts an old tune into the sublime,” while The Washington Post praised their “soul-stirring harmonies” and “cross-genre collaborations,” and The New Yorker simply dubbed them “legendary.”

“One of the greatest and most venerated gospel groups the world has ever known … an impeccable mix of polished blues, swinging soul and from-the-gut gospel.”

  • NJPAC TO ENLIVEN DOWNTOWN NEWARK LAUNCHES A PUBLIC ART INITIATIVE CO-OPTING NEW WORKS THAT DEPICT STORIES IN SOUND, MOVEMENT AND COMMUNITY

NJPAC TO ENLIVEN DOWNTOWN NEWARK LAUNCHES A PUBLIC ART INITIATIVE CO-OPTING NEW WORKS THAT DEPICT STORIES IN SOUND, MOVEMENT AND COMMUNITY

    • By Mabel Pais

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) launches a new public art initiative and its plan to commission 13 original artworks for NJPAC’s redeveloped campus in downtown Newark.

On November 20, NJPAC released a Request for Proposals in partnership with local arts nonprofit Project for Empty Space (projectforemptyspace.org) and design firm WeShouldDoItAll (wsdia.com), outlining the vision and scope of the project, and opportunities for artists to contribute.

    TRANSFORMING DOWNTOWN NEWARK

As part of a transformative redevelopment project that has redesigned the entirety of the Arts Center’s 12-acre campus, the initiative will bring more works of art to the already-vibrant streets of Newark’s downtown Arts and Education District.

The new neighborhood now under construction around NJPAC’s iconic theaters will include ArtSide, a 350-unit residential and retail development, and the Cooperman Family Arts Education and Community Center, a three-story home for NJPAC’s Arts Education, community programs and rehearsal studios.

The new public artworks will enliven all these spaces with installations that reflect the rhythm, resilience and vitality of Newark’s communities. The project, called ‘Stories in Sound, Movement and Community,’ weaves together the three core elements of NJPAC’s efforts to  bring communities together through the performing arts. Each new work will be site-specific and will offer an interactive experience that celebrates the city’s artistic legacy and contemporary expression.

“Newark’s art defines our community and serves as a shorthand for where we’ve been, who we are, where we’re going and what we want for ourselves,” says Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka. “It is a highly valued, cultural priority here, which explains why our city was ranked eighth in the nation in the 2024 Arts Vibrancy Index. NJPAC shares this creative lifeblood with us and continuously embraces each new cohort of artists and creators in its ongoing history. It is one of the many reasons we are so proud to have NJPAC at the heart of our downtown.”

    PROCESS

NJPAC identified a number of core themes through community meetings, roundtables and surveys, reflecting widely shared and uniquely local perspectives on Newark’s identity. Each commission will explore how stories of the past, present and future are told through music, dance, spoken word and performance, highlighting Newark as a city that is constantly evolving.

“We want the visual arts to be an integral part of our new campus,” says John Schreiber, President and CEO of NJPAC. “ArtSide and the Cooperman Center were designed to include spaces that would serve as frames for public works of art, like the archway over one of the new streets that crosses through ArtSide. NJPAC has not, until now, had a formal way to engage with the muralists and visual artists who are so vital to Newark, and we look forward to engaging with the city’s larger creative community through this project.”

    INVITATION TO ARTISTS

NJPAC invites artists who live or work within its core audience zones (in and around Newark, and the greater New Jersey and New York markets) to submit proposals for these new pieces. The commissioned works will be installed across exterior and interior sites on the NJPAC campus, including in prominent public-facing locations that engage residents, visitors and audiences alike.

    INFORMATION SESSION FOR APPLICATION

A virtual artist information session will be held on December 10, 2025, at 3PM to introduce the initiative and guide artists through the application process. Proposals are due by January 19, 2026, with selected works scheduled for installation beginning in summer 2026 and continuing through winter 2027. Full project briefs, submission details and the link to apply are available on NJPAC’s website at njpac.org/publicart.

    NEWARK TODAY AND TOMORROW

Through this initiative, NJPAC reaffirms its commitment to contributing to Newark’s vibrant arts scene while creating meaningful opportunities for visual artists and designers to collaborate, imagine and inspire. Stories in Sound, Movement, and Community invites artists to explore how shared histories, familiar rhythms and new voices can combine to tell the story of Newark today, and envision the Newark of the future.

“At Project for Empty Space, we believe in the powerful impact of partnership. Our history of public art is built on collaboration — with peer organizations, culture workers and audiences alike,” says Project for Empty Space Co-Directors Jasmine Wahi and Rebecca Pauline Jampol. “We are honored to partner with NJPAC on this program, which will have a meaningful and lasting impact not only on their new campus but on the broader public art community and the residents of Newark and beyond.”

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC),

NJPAC located in downtown Newark, New Jersey, is an anchor cultural institution for both the city of Newark and the state of New Jersey. It is an artistic, cultural, educational and civic center where great performances and events enhance and transform lives every day.

NJPAC brings communities together both on and off of our campus – on stages, in schools and community settings – providing access to the arts for all and showcasing the state’s and the world’s best artists, while acting as a leading catalyst in the revitalization of its home city.

Through its extensive Social Impact programs, NJPAC leverages the arts to advance positive outcomes in education, health and well-being, civic engagement and community development. NJPAC has attracted more than 12.7 million visitors (including more than two million children) since opening its doors in 1997. Learn more at njpac.org.

    Project for Empty Space (PES)

PES (projectforemptyspace.org) is a multifaceted arts organization in Newark, NJ and Chinatown, Manhattan that includes Exhibitions, Artists Residencies, Public Art initiatives, subsidized Artist Studios, and Artist Professional Development/Granting opportunities. PES’s program centers social discourse, including narratives that have been historically and systemically erased. They strive to course-correct historic instances of forced marginality, inequity, and invisibility, supporting socially-oriented artists while maintaining a commitment to both reflecting on the past and envisioning new possibilities for the future. WeShouldDoItAll (WSDIA)

WSDIA (wsdia.org) is a New York-based multidisciplinary design studio working across spatial design, branding, environmental graphics, exhibition design, and digital platforms. The studio explicitly rejects specialization, instead focusing on solving problems through whatever disciplinary lens best serves the work. The Beacon Theatre

Considered the “older sister” to Radio City Music Hall, Roxy Rothafel opened the Art Deco Style Beacon Theatre in 1929 as an “international Music Hall” to present live entertainment, cultural, and popular events.

While it opened as a forum for vaudeville acts, drama, opera, and movies, some of the greatest names in rock and roll have played there, including the Rolling Stones, Michael Jackson, Aerosmith, Radiohead, and Queen. Even such luminaries as His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Bill Clinton acknowledged the Beacon, with the Dalai Lama choosing it as the site of his teaching classes in 1999, and Clinton ending his 60th birthday celebration with a private Stones concert.

Upholding the fine standards of quality musical entertainment, the 2,600 seat three tiered venue rightfully earned its title as a national landmark and a permanent spot on the National Register of Historic Places. A wondrous tribute to music in the city that never sleeps, the Beacon Theatre is a true representation of artistry in form and content.

TicketSales.com has the largest inventory of Beacon Theatre tickets, so keep checking for great deals on resale tickets.

“The music of Cuba’s Carlos Varela feels as timely as ever.” – Los Angeles Times

Known as the “Poet of Havana” or the “Bob Dylan of Cuba”, the immensely popular Cuban singer-songwriter Carlos Varela has dedicated his 30-year music career to expressing “the problems of my people.” His poetic lyrics speak to the promise and pain of Cuba across generations, with complex emotion and powerful imagery. His message has been banned and censored by Cuban authorities, but his songs, like 2000’s ‘Una Palabra,’ continue to resonate around the world. As Carlos explains: “Words can transform. They can reach your soul and your heart. They can shake your bones. They can change your life, and that can’t be lost.”

Special guest Diana Fuentes is a Cuban singer-songwriter known for her sparkling voice and her fusion of pop, R&B and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. She began as a vocalist in Síntesis and Carlos Varela’s band, earning Latin GRAMMY® nominations. She was the first Cuban female artist signed to Sony Music Latin since Celia Cruz, earning two Gold Records and one Platinum Record.

A member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, special guest Jackson Browne has defined a genre of songwriting that is charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. As influential and enduring as his music is, Browne’s legacy as an advocate for social and environmental justice has been equally central to his career.

Opening the concert is Rodrigo Toscano, an author of 12 books of poetry, dialogist, essayist and labor-environmental activist.

He makes his return as a bandleader with his latest project featuring his acclaimed Big Band and several special guest vocalists including: contemporary R&B innovator   José James, the unparalleled GRAMMY® Award-winning Ledisi, and Andra Day who won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Motion Picture for her portrayal of Billie Holiday in the biopic ‘The United States vs. Billie Holiday.

Most of the vocalists appearing on his latest album ‘Without Further Ado,’ Vol. 1 (Mack Avenue Records) have performed with him on the NJPAC stage. As told to WBGO Radio, “The impetus for this recording actually stems from the annual gala at NJPAC. So since 2012, I’ve been NJPAC’s Jazz Advisor and my Big Band has been the house band for the gala ever since. We’ve invited all kinds of great singers to come and sing at those galas. Between the gala and the James Moody Festival, we’ve had Al Jarreau, Dianne Reeves, Jeffrey Osborne, Cecile McLorin Salvant, Lizz Wright, Fantasia, Cynthia Erivo, Philip Bailey, every singer you could possibly think of. Every year I had to write these arrangements for these singers and they only got played once. After more than 10 years, I’m looking at my library and I got this huge pile of big band music that’s only been played once. I thought they shouldn’t go to waste.”

It was Jimi’s death in 1970 that first moved 11-year-old Stanley to take up the guitar. His jazz career took flight, with four GRAMMY® nominations and the development of his signature two-handed touch technique, which was inspired by Jimi’s left-handed tapping. • FORMER NJ GUBERNATORIAL HOPEFUL DEFTLY CAPTURES SKILL OF COURTROOM, POLITICS AND COMEDY

FORMER NJ GUBERNATORIAL HOPEFUL DEFTLY CAPTURES SKILL OF COURTROOM, POLITICS AND COMEDY

    • By Mabel Pais

Law. Politics. Comedy. At first glance, they may seem like very different worlds. But for Jon Bramnick, they come together naturally.

JON BRAMNICK, State Senator and Attorney, knows how to fight while making you laugh! Bramnick’s journey through the courtroom, the Statehouse, and the comedy stage is anything but a joke. He will make you laugh all night long while he performs on the Victoria Theater stage of the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC), Newark, NJ on November 7, 2025. The performance begins at 7:30 PM. Special guest Vinnie Brand will join him.

Bramnick has been called  recently “The Muhammad Ali of Comedian Lawyers,” by NJ.com, a title that captures his rare mix of courtroom skill, political savvy, and comedic timing. With nearly four decades of legal experience and deep roots in New Jersey politics, attorney Jon M. Bramnick (jonbramnick.com), founder of Bramnick Law (jonbramnick.com/firm-overview), isn’t just a seasoned trial lawyer and long-serving state senator but also a comedian.

Born and raised in Plainfield, he’s the “Funniest Lawyer in New Jersey” — a legally binding title bestowed by the State Bar Association. When Jon’s not busy working as a trial lawyer at his Scotch Plains personal injury firm, he’s doing stand-up at comedy clubs from New York City to Florida. He also serves as a New Jersey state senator. In New Jersey’s often bruising political and legal arenas, it’s rare to find a figure who not only knows how to fight, but can make you laugh while doing it.

Bramnick has built a reputation for being quick on his feet, whether he’s addressing a jury, debating on the Senate floor, or handling a heckler at a comedy club in New Brunswick. It’s not every day that you discover a lawyer standing under the spotlight at a gritty comedy club, working a half-full room with jokes about ethics rules and crooked politicians. But for Jon Bramnick, it’s part of a rhythm he’s honed for over 30 years.

Performing regularly at venues like the Stress Factory in New Brunswick, Bramnick brings sharp wit and Jersey-centric humor to the stage. His comedy avoids the typical shock-and-awe punchlines; instead, he leans into clean, observational humor, skewering politics, bureaucracy, and his own profession with equal measure.

“You paid to see a lawyer tell jokes,” he quips. “The good news is I’m not getting paid either.”

The crowd laughs. The tension lifts. And suddenly, the man many recognize from political debates or courtroom victories becomes something even more relatable: human.

But beneath the laughter is a genuine desire to serve. Whether auctioneering for charities, raising money for the Plainfield Symphony, or working to pass meaningful legislation, Bramnick has spent decades building bridges across communities, courtrooms, and party lines.

Jon Bramnick (jonbramnick.com) recently ran for the Republican nomination in New Jersey’s 2025 gubernatorial race, bringing his full personality — lawyer, lawmaker, and comedian—to the campaign trail. Although his bid in the primary concluded, Bramnick remains a visible and active presence across the state. Whether he’s representing clients, speaking at community events, or bringing humor to a packed comedy club, he continues to lead with authenticity, clarity, and connection.

As he put it: “When you do comedy, it has to be instinctual. It has to be part of your personality.” The same could be said for practicing law or representing constituents — it’s about understanding people, reading the room, and responding with empathy and clarity.

  • JAZZ FEST AIMS TO SHOWCASE JAZZ AS POWERFUL FORCE FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE

    • By Mabel Pais

The 14th Annual TD JAMES MOODY FESTIVAL, presented by the  New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) and co-curated by NJPAC’s Jazz Advisor CHRISTIAN MCBRIDE, will take place November 8-23, 2025. It aims to showcase jazz as a powerful cultural force for social justice.

From groundbreaking jazz masters Arturo Sandoval and Stanley Clarke to the censored “Poet of Havana” singer-songwriter Carlos Varela and hip-hop stars Chuck D, Rakim and Slick Rick baring their souls in the annual Represent! show, this year’s Festival is rooted in jazz history. Presented at various accessible locations throughout Newark, the citywide Festival offers a diverse program of several acts fusing jazz with poetry, spoken word, dance, blues, pop, African-Caribbean music, and more — making it a destination for all arts lovers. New for this year, eligible TD Bank cardholders will receive special perks at the TD James Moody Jazz Festival.

NJPAC President and CEO, John Schreiber explains “Jazz has always been an art form that’s strengthened by artists collaborating, crossing boundaries, finding new inspiration in the counterpoint of different rhythms coming together. You’ll hear that in almost every show at the ’TD James Moody Jazz Festival’ this year, and especially in this year’s ’Represent!’ concert that will bring together leading voices in hip hop, jazz and spoken word poetry.”

Christian McBride, TD James Moody Jazz Festival Advisor and multiple GRAMMY® Award-Winning Jazz Bassist, said “This is going to be another all-star, can’t-miss ’TD James Moody Jazz Festival.’ I can’t wait to groove with my Big Band and the incredible vocalists Andra Day, José James and Ledisi. But as always, I’m proud that we’ve put together a festival that has something for everyone: You’ll hear inspiring words from Dodge Poets, witness the tap dance magic of Savion Glover, hear Rachael Price of Lake Street Dive sing new tunes inspired by the music of the 1940s with her friend Vilray, and move to Cuban rhythms from Carlos Varela, Diana Fuentes, Arturo Sandoval and Omar Sosa. Plus, we’ll welcome two legendary players — my fellow bassist Stanley Clarke, and guitarist Stanley Jordan — to the NJPAC stage this season. This is a rare treat, and I know fans will be looking forward to their appearances as much as I am. Our goal with the ’Moody’ festival is to ensure you’ll always hear some of your favorites — and always discover new music to fall in love with.”

Martin Melilli, TD Bank Commercial Market President explains,“TD Bank has been an active supporter of the festival since it began, sponsoring free community performances and educational events, as well as mainstage concerts showcasing jazz superstars. We are very proud to continue our relationship with NJPAC and the TD James Moody Jazz Festival as they work to educate and inspire through jazz. At TD, we believe music and the arts are a universal language we all speak, and they both have a special way of inspiring positive change and connecting diverse communities.”

  • CELEBRATE THE LEGACY OF 50 YEARS OF ‘AIR SUPPLY’

CELEBRATE THE LEGACY OF 50 YEARS OF ‘AIR SUPPLY’

    • By Mabel Pais

Celebrate the love. Celebrate the legacy. Celebrate 50 years of AIR SUPPLY!

Enjoy an unforgettable evening of timeless hits and heartfelt memories welcoming AIR SUPPLY for a special 50th anniversary concert at The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) on Sunday, October 26 at 7:00 p.m.

Since 1975, Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock have captured hearts around the world with their soaring harmonies and romantic anthems, such as ‘Lost in Love,’ ‘All Out of Love,’ ‘Every Woman in the World,’ and ‘The One That You Love.’

A pedestrian on 57th Street sees a musician getting out of a cab and asks, “How do you get to Carnegie Hall?” Without pause, the artist replies, “Practice!” In fact, Air Supply celebrated their 50th Anniversary with a performance at Carnegie Hall on May, 13, 2025.

If it’s true that practice makes perfect, then Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock – beloved by their millions of fans across the planet as Air Supply – have had nearly half a century to hone their skills, harness their passion and unleash the beautifully intimate yet rockin’ romantic energy of those instantly identifiable 80s hits that made them global superstars.

As they close in on 50 years (exact date, May 12, 1975) since they met in the chorus of the Australian touring company of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ the duo is ever-present on the road in North America and overseas to the tune of 130 dates a year. This run includes being the first Western group to tour China and several other countries who prior to their breakthrough would not allow pop music across their borders, as well as performing for a record 175,000 people in Cuba in 2005.

Five decades later, Air Supply is still going strong — and they’re bringing their legendary sound to NJPAC for one incredible night.

The feature film version of the show is available to stream and purchase at

    shop.thethorn.com.

Director Andrew Harmon explains the film – youtu.be/ZZ-GmoKrASc.

    Author John Bolin

Author John Bolin created the show over 25 years ago to convey the meaning of Christ’s sacrificial death to a group of young people who knew little about the story of Jesus’ suffering but were familiar with pain through their own practice of cutting and self-harm.

The show has evolved ever since, with the current live version returning to the original format featuring St. John, “the beloved disciple,” recalling his many amazing encounters with Jesus.

“It’s a story full of love, sacrifice, spiritual warfare, and redemption,” said Bolin.

    Watch the video – youtu.be/gpHlqQytqTE.

    Meet “The Thorn” Creators:

‘The Thorn’ creator John Bolin, says God called him: “to tell stories on the page, stage, and screen,” an assignment he has now completed with the film version of ‘The Thorn.’ His books include novels (‘The Eden Project’) and Christian growth guides (‘So Loved,’ ‘The Two Doors of Heaven,’ and ‘Life Unlimited’).

John’s wife, Sarah Bolin helped create the show and is the Executive Producer, managing the show’s national touring troupes. When asked about why she tours and has participated in ‘The Thorn’ for so long, Sarah said, “God asked us to trust him and open our hands, and he promised to make something beautiful happen.” Over the years, Sarah has been witness to seeing God move in tangible ways across audience and cast members alike.

    Jesus Trending

Although polls show that U.S. church attendance is declining, interest in Jesus is growing. ‘The Chosen,’ the popular streaming series about Jesus, has racked up over 400 million episode views.

“As I first saw with my students 25 years ago, people who may have jaundiced views of Christians or churches are more open to learning about who the real Jesus was, how he lived, and what he taught,” said Bolin.

While previous incarnations of ‘The Thorn’ live show have been performed mostly at churches, the new touring model makes the show available to everyone at mainstream performing arts venues and arenas.

“Jesus believes in accessibility,” said Bolin. “He wants everyone to have access to the ultimate story of love and hope. That’s why he came to earth in the first place.”

She also served as Chair of the Arts Center’s Spotlight Gala, a record six times.

“Mindy and Darrell have both built remarkable careers that have had an impact on so many across New Jersey. I am beyond grateful that they also chose to devote their time, insight and expertise to helping NJPAC grow into the anchor institution it is today — and to positioning the Arts Center to accomplish even more in the seasons to come,” said John Schreiber, President and CEO of NJPAC.

The Women@NJPAC Spotlight Gala, often called the “party of the year,” treats Arts Center supporters to a night of dinner in NJPAC’s theaters and gathering spaces, followed by a headlining performance in Prudential Hall and an after-party that includes the Arts Center’s famous dessert buffet and dancing to tunes spun by DJ Kiss.

WFM is set to formally launch its feeding program in the US on September 28, 2025. The inauguration event will be held at the Victoria Theatre, NJPAC in Newark, New Jersey. This organization has been established to fulfill the great desire of Srila Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of ISKCON (The International Society for Krishna Consciousness), to ensure that no one goes hungry.
Due to various factors, including rising living expenses, many are forced to choose between food and other essentials. WFM will focus on addressing hunger and food insecurity among students and food-insecure individuals across the country.
The event will be graced by Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa, Vice Chairman, Dr. Siva Sivaram, National Board Member and other important members of the Foundation. Eminent personalities from various parts of the country are also expected to be present at the launch.
    AKSHAYA PATRA – SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP
WFM builds on the vast experience and expertise of Akshaya Patra, which has contributed tremendously to alleviating classroom hunger among students by providing them with fresh, nutritious school lunches. It has also played a significant role in developing practical and scalable solutions to combat hunger, improving food and nutrition security in India since 2000.
Akshaya Patra has grown from its humble origins to currently feeding 2.3 million children in India every day. The unique vision of this program is that “no children should be deprived of education because of hunger.” The Foundation has addressed classroom hunger effectively and has become a cornerstone of nutritional and educational support for children. Akshaya Patra has demonstrated that innovation and technology can bring about a social transformation when driven by compassion.
Akshaya Patra is known for its state-of-the-art, ISO (International Organization for Standardization)-certified kitchens, which can cook up to 100,000 meals a day. Its efficient systems and processes have become case studies at leading international institutions, including Harvard University, Stanford University, and London Business School. Former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton have expressed their appreciation for the scale, quality and use of advanced technologies in Akshaya Patra’s feeding programs.
    INTERNATIONAL REACH
The organization gradually extended its services outside India and established its first international kitchen in the United Kingdom in 2020. Since then, over 800,000 meals have been served from this kitchen to children, university students, and individuals in homeless shelters.
Beyond school feeding, Akshaya Patra has also been actively involved in homeless and emergency feeding, supporting millions of people in India and abroad. The Foundation’s international humanitarian aid includes food relief to people affected by wars, earthquakes, floods and other natural calamities in regions such as Nepal, Turkey, and Ukraine.
    WFM VISION
Inspired by Akshaya Patra’s overwhelming success, the World Food Movement (WFM) has brought this transformative model to the US, and commenced feeding initiatives in New Jersey, New York, and Washington D.C., with a vision to expand nationwide.
Sri Chanchalapathi Dasa said, “We are happy to launch World Food Movement in the US to serve the students and other communities of this wonderful country. We believe it is essential for citizens to be well-nourished to thrive and engage effectively in nation-building. We are committed to promoting well-being, restoring dignity and making a difference in people’s lives. We invite you to participate in this event and join us in our mission to ensure food for all. We will be happy to work with the government and its administrative agencies, philanthropists, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs and individuals to provide abundant, nutritious meals and contribute to building a healthier and happier nation.”

    Meet The Band

    Jean Violet As Robert Plant

Jean Violet embodies the spirit of a young Robert Plant with his long, golden mane and powerful, seductive vocals. His performance is a testament to Plant’s influence and charisma, capturing the essence of Led Zeppelin’s legendary frontman.

    Kevin Slover As Jimmy Page

Kevin Slover channels the energy of a young Jimmy Page, donning the iconic black dragon suit and strutting the stage with confidence. His guitar work is a blend of power and finesse, delivering the blistering riffs and solos that defined Page’s style.

Tommy James As John Paul Jones

Multi-instrumentalist Tommy James takes on the role of “Jonesy” with ease, inspired by the creativity and musicianship of John Paul Jones. Having performed these songs live for many years, James is a natural fit, providing the intricate bass lines and keyboard melodies that are essential to Led Zeppelin’s sound.

    David Blampied As John Bonham

David Blampied, the “keeper of the groove,” masterfully recreates the drumming of John Bonham. He is equally adept at delivering subtle, nuanced passages as well as the thunderous beats that drive Led Zeppelin’s powerful rhythm section, ensuring that the music remains as dynamic and engaging as ever.

The ‘Prudential North to Shore Festival,’ produced by NJPAC and with Prudential Financial as title sponsor, returns this June featuring ‘Laughs and Jams’: A star-studded lineup of musical superstars and world-class comics.

‘Prudential North to Shore Festival’ will return in June 2025, building on the momentum of two extraordinarily successful festivals in 2023 and 2024, with an expanded lineup that runs from June 14 through June 29.

Conceived by Governor Phil Murphy and First Lady Tammy Murphy in 2023, this year’s festival returns with a special focus on comedy and music — ’Laughs and Jams.’

In its first two years, the festival brought in more than $25 million for ticketed events and has drawn a total audience of over 500,000 to more than 650 shows in 250 venues in Newark, Asbury Park and Atlantic City, making it New Jersey’s largest summer arts festival. Prudential Financial returns as the festival’s title sponsor, as part of the Newark-based company’s celebration of its 150th anniversary. There are additional NJ sponsors.

    N2S 2025 ANNOUNCEMENT

The lineup was unveiled on March 4 during a press conference at NJPAC’s iconic Prudential Hall, where festival organizers, supporters and arts and entertainment fans gathered to learn more about this year’s format.

“Now for a third summer, we can come together again to celebrate the qualities that make New Jersey an epicenter for diversity, creativity, and innovation,” said Governor Phil Murphy. ‘Prudential North to Shore’ is more than a festival — it’s a showcase of everything that makes this state unique, welcoming, and an ideal stage for talent and the arts.”

Then, for two consecutive weeks, comedians of all stripes and musical acts will perform in venues across Asbury Park and Newark. At the same time, free community events will welcome festival-goers with a taste of the rich and varied arts and culture scene that thrives in each city.

“In just three short years, ‘Prudential North to Shore’ has become the premier showcase of our state’s incredible depth of talent,” said First Lady Tammy Murphy. “I cannot wait to enjoy all the festival has to offer alongside visitors from around the region and from all over the country.”

“The breadth of experiences ‘Prudential North to Shore’ offers is unlike that of any other festival in the nation,” said John Schreiber, President and CEO of NJPAC. “We’re excited to offer something this year that is focused, bold and more Jersey than ever. Laughs and jams —comedy and music — will provide fans with unforgettable, life-enhancing experiences and the kind of joy we all need and deserve.”

“We are thrilled to continue our long-standing partnership with NJPAC and return as the title sponsor of ‘Prudential North to Shore Festival,’” said Lata Reddy, senior vice president, Inclusive Solutions at Prudential Financial and chair of The Prudential Foundation. “For 150 years, Prudential has been a rock for millions of people around the world, helping them build financial security and live better lives longer. That path starts in our local communities, and we’re excited to help bring North to Shore’s economic engine and boost the creative economy back to our hometown of Newark and across New Jersey.”

This year, ‘Prudential North to Shore’ will kick off year-round community programming in Atlantic City starting on June 14.

The ‘2025 Prudential North to Shore Festival’ is also supported by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA).

“As part of Governor Murphy’s vision to promote arts and culture as a driver of economic growth and community development, the NJEDA is committed to showcasing the strength of New Jersey’s booming arts and innovation sectors to the rest of the world,” said NJEDA Chief Executive Officer Tim Sullivan. “We are proud to partner with Prudential North to Shore for this year’s festival, which will attract thousands of attendees to some of the state’s most iconic cities and support local restaurants, businesses, hotels, and main streets during the heart of the summer season.”

NJPAC is producing this multi-city celebration with leadership support from Prudential Financial, the festival’s title sponsor for the second consecutive year. The Arts Center is also collaborating with several partners in New Jersey.

    GROWING HEALTHY PANTRIES

A portion of all ticket sales will directly benefit Growing Healthy Pantries – a partnership between Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, FoodBank of South Jersey, Fulfill, Mercer Street Friends, Norwescap and Feeding America, which addresses food security statewide and supports 1,000 food pantries across the state’s 21 counties.

“Beyond just providing emergency food to feed our neighbors in need for today, New Jersey’s food banks are also working to address the long-term causes and consequences of food insecurity, including lack of access to healthy options,” said Elizabeth McCarthy, President & CEO of the Community FoodBank of New Jersey. “Growing Healthy Pantries is one critical way that we’re promoting nutrition, choice, and dignity at pantries across the state to address hunger as a health issue. We’re so grateful to Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, NJPAC and Prudential North to Shore Festival for their continued commitment to our shared mission.”

    NEWARK: POWERHOUSE OF CREATIVITY

“Newark is long known to be a powerhouse of creativity, teeming with artistic expression – and exactly the kind of city perfect for hosting ‘Prudential North to Shore,’” said Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka. “I am so excited about the incredible lineup coming here this year, and I look forward to celebrating this festival with neighbors who already love our city and visitors who soon will!”

ASBURY PARK: DNA OF MUSIC AND ARTS

“Music and the arts are woven into the very DNA of Asbury Park, and ‘Prudential North to Shore’ is the ultimate celebration of that artistry and spirit,” said Asbury Park Mayor John Moor. “This festival not only spotlights the incredible talent that thrives here but also reinforces Asbury Park’s legacy as a cultural and economic engine in New Jersey.”

ATLANTIC CITY: CREATIVES & COMMUNITY GROUPS

This year, in Atlantic City, ‘Prudential North to Shore’ community events will be produced throughout the year, extending the celebration’s impact on creatives and community groups.
