VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. (TIP): Nassau County Legislator Carrié Solages (D – Valley Stream) applauded the Nassau County Police Department’s deployment of a speed indicator at the intersection of Corona Avenue and Rockaway Parkway in Valley Stream.
Legislator Solages is continuing to meet with school and community leaders and conduct extensive outreach to NCPD officials seeking remedies for excessive speeding near the James A. Dever and Wheeler Avenue Schools. Citing speeding, double parking and unsafe U-turns that create a hazardous environment for children and community members, Legislator Solages in January wrote to the Department of Public Works, urging them to pursue a traffic safety assessment of Rockaway Parkway near Wheeler Avenue Elementary.

“We must have a focused effort, like New York City’s Vision Zero program, to address speeding in western Nassau County – especially in District 3, which has some of Nassau’s most dangerous and heavily traveled roadways,” Legislator Solages said. “I am thankful that the County heeded my advocacy to protect pedestrians and motorists by placing this speed indicator, and I encourage everyone to do their part to bring about long-term solutions that keep us all safe.”
