PRIYANKA CHOPRA: DISRESPECTFUL TO SEE MARY KOM AS A TREND FILM

Actress Priyanka Chopra, who will be next seen in the much-awaited biopic ‘Mary Kom’, said it is disrespectful to see it as a film made in sync with the trend of sports dramas. Priyanka will essay the life story of Olympic medal-winning boxer Mary Kom in the film, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Last year, biopic on life of national sprinter Milkha Singh, played by actor Farhan Akhtar, had won the film several accolades, while Irrfan’s stint as Paan Singh Tomar in the 2012 film of same name bagged two National awards.

The Fashion star made it clear that it was wrong to compare the film with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. “I think you can’t compare Mary Kom with Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. For the first time a film has been made on life of a female athlete. It is disrespectful to say it is a trend of sports biopic film. Mary Kom is the pride of our nation,” Priyanka told reporters here at the trailer launch of the film today.

The 32-year-old actress said Mary Kom is so far the toughest film of her career. “It is the most hardest film of my career. To bring her (Mary Kom’s) personality on screen was the hardest part. To bring the part of a fighter, a homemaker, and a mother was a challenge,” Priyanka said.

PRIYANKA CHOPRA LOSES SEVEN KILOS IN 20 DAYS

Priyanka Chopra’s move from a boxing ring in Mary Kom to a business suit in Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do was not an easy one. The actress had to lose some extra baggage on the way-seven kilos of muscle built while training to play the pugilist in the biopic. The actress had trained with boxer Jharna Sanghvi over the last year to get the brawny physique of the Olympic medal winner.

But Zoya wanted Priyanka to look svelte for her turn as a suave businesswoman from a Punjabi family in her film, which is currently being shot aboard a cruise liner sailing through Europe. Priyanka had only 20 days to knock off the weight gained over the past year and worked with Jharna to achieve the goal.

When contacted, Jharna says: “It’s usually not easy and advisable to cut down six-seven kilos in just 15-20 days. But boxers can lose that much in about 20 days with the right weight training and activities like skipping, running and a controlled their diet because they are trained for it. Priyanka did just that.” This was coupled by a strict diet to shed the kilos quickly.

“Priyanka’s diet included a lot of carbohydrates then. So her weight shot up. And from the day she completed her shoot, I put her on a protein rich diet and eliminated carbohydrates. Regular exercises and run ning for at least 30 minutes helped too,” says Jharna. Priyanka is currently shooting for Dil Dhadakne Do with Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma, Anil Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar. The cast and crew departed for a twoand- ahalf-month schedule last month.

It was Madhur Bhandarkar’s Fashion which got the actress a National Award, and Priyanka is being doubly sure with her maiden venture. According to a Mumbai Mirror report, “Priyanka and Madhur had a meeting before she left to shoot the on-going schedule of the Mary Kom biopic.

She told Madhur that she was bowled over by the script and definitely wants to be a part of the project.” However at that time Priyanka Chopra was unable to give immediate dates, with her hands full of projects like Omung Kumar’s Mary Kom biopic and Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do. PRIYANKA CHOPRA FALLS ON FLOOR WITH A MISTIMED PUNCH!

The makeup artiste working on the Mary Kom biopic talks about how he enhanced a cut mark that Priyanka sustained on the sets of the film. Mary Kom’s biopic has turned out to be a daunting task for Priyanka Chopra. The actress has suffered several injuries and one happened recently when a mistimed punch landed under her right eye while shooting at Dharmshala. Fortunately, the injury wasn’t too serious but it was enough to stall the shoot for almost an hour.

“Priyanka was filming a boxing scene with an actor from the North- East. She fell on the floor due to the impact. She got the shot spot on, so director Oomung Kumar decided to retain it. The cut mark that you will eventually see on screen under her eye is real but we did touch it up with makeup to make it look deeper,” says Uday Shirale, who has been working on Priyanka’s look. The makeup artiste refutes rumours that Priyanka uses prosthetic make-up throughout the film. “The prosthetics haven’t taken me longer than an hour. Mostly, its regular make-up and she’d be ready in 20 minutes flat,” he says.
