The makers of Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story unveiled the film’s first-look poster on Sourav Ganguly’s birthday and announced that it will release in cinemas on May 14, 2027. The film stars Rajkummar Rao as the former India skipper.
The poster recreates Ganguly’s well-known shirt-waving celebration from the Lord’s balcony after India’s NatWest Trophy win over England in 2002. The image has long been associated with a new phase in Indian cricket under Ganguly’s leadership. Rajkummar wished the former Indian skipper on his birthday with the first-look poster of his biopic.
Sharing the poster of the film on his official Instagram account, Ganguly wrote, “The Best Gift Ever! Can’t wait to see you play my cover drive! @rajkummar_rao (sic).”
According to the makers, the film traces Ganguly’s journey from a young cricketer to one of India’s most influential captains. It focuses on the grit, resilience and conviction that shaped his career and his role in changing Indian cricket.
Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story is directed by Vikramaditya Motwane and produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg. It is presented by Gulshan Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, T-Series and DBL, and is a Luv Films production.
Actor Tanya Maniktala will play Sourav Ganguly’s wife, Dona Ganguly, in the biopic. The film is also expected to delve into the couple’s relationship, with portions of their story reportedly presented through a musical sequence.
The makers have also roped in several Bengali actors to lend authenticity to the film’s setting. Aparajita Adhya has been cast as Ganguly’s mother, Nirupa Ganguly, while Saswata Chatterjee will portray his father, Chandi Ganguly. Other supporting roles have also been filled by actors from the Bengali film industry.
The film is set for a worldwide theatrical release on May 14, 2027, with the first look being unveiled on Ganguly’s birthday.
