Krrish 4: Siddharth Anand exits, Rakesh Roshan to not direct film

Krrish 4 has been in the pipeline for quite some time. However, it looks like the obstacles in the path of this superhero film are far from being over. The Hrithik Roshan-starrer, which was earlier to be produced by Siddharth Anand’s Marflix, will reportedly be under a new banner now as Anand has exited the project. Moreover, a new director will be roped in and Rakesh Roshan has confirmed that he is “passing the baton.”
Recent reports suggest that the budget of Krrish 4 is Rs 700 crore. Bollywood Hungama reported that the estimated budget makes it challenging for studios to commit. Initially, Hrithik Roshan tasked his friend Siddharth Anand, who was involved as a producer, with finding a suitable studio. Concerns about the film’s relevance in the post-Marvel era have led to studios’ hesitance, resulting in Siddharth Anand and Marflix stepping away from the project. The report quoted a source, who said, “The studios were not confident about Krrish at this budget in the post-Marvel era as it has been more than a decade since the release of Krrish 4.”
However, a source confirmed to India Today Digital the budget is not Rs 700 crore. “The astronomical budget figures doing the rounds are completely untrue,” he said.
The source further added, “Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan had a closed-door meeting and have now decided to speak to studios all across India personally and lock a lucrative deal for the film. Krrish 4 will now be produced by FilmKraft with a leading studio, whereas Marflix will focus on other projects outside of Krrish.”
The film will also be helmed by a new director as Karan Malhotra has also exited the film. A new creative team will reassess the budget before proceeding. Moreover, director Rakesh Roshan also confirmed that he will not don the director’s hat.
“The day has to come when I have to pass on the baton. So, it’s better I do it when I am in my senses, so that I can overlook the process as well and ascertain whether he’s doing it correctly or not. Tomorrow, if I am not in my senses and I’ll have to pass it on, I will not know what they are making,” Rakesh Roshan told Bollywood Hungama.
He also remarked that there is no guarantee that his direction would ensure a blockbuster, acknowledging the need for change.
In a recent interview, Rakesh Roshan shared an official update on Krrish 4, saying that it is expected to go on floors by the end of the year.
Rakesh Roshan launched the Krrish franchise with the 2003 sci-fi film Koi Mil Gaya, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta. The film’s success led to Krrish in 2006, starring Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra. Krrish 3 followed in 2013, with Hrithik, Priyanka, Vivek Oberoi, and Kangana Ranaut in key roles, further cementing the franchise’s popularity. Source: India Today

  • The soaring success of Pathaan is set to change the face of Indian cinema

After a long smear campaign that tried to put it down, the highly-anticipated Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan has finally hit the theatres the world over. For the fans of Shah Rukh Khan, it is nothing less than a carnival. They are coming to the theatres in huge numbers which is reflected by the long queues that can be seen outside the theatres everywhere. All this has resulted in a huge opening for Pathaan (with the domestic collection crossing the 55-crore mark on Day 1, making it the biggest opener ever for Indian cinema). The total India collection on Day 2 was 70.50 crore nett (82.94 crore gross). It thus became the first Hindi film to breach the 70 crore nett collection on a single day. Meanwhile, overseas collection was also incredible as it collected 30.70 crore gross.

‘Pathaan’ created more history on its second day when it beat its own record for the highest day ever which it set on the opening day — Rs. 55 crore in Hindi format + Rs. 2 crore in dubbed formats — amounting to a total of Rs. 57 crore nett on Day 1.

Pathaan is a paean to the unsung heroes of India who day in and day out put their lives on the line in order to protect the glory of the motherland by guarding it against its countless enemies and forces that are trying to weaken it. These are spies, soldiers on covert operations, members of the intelligence network, whose sacrifices often go unnoticed. The Siddharth Anand-directed Pathaan in its unique own way takes us on a whirlwind global adventure with these selfless soldiers committed to the highest ideals of duty and sacrifice.

In terms of massy cinematic entertainment, Pathaan has everything that anyone can ask or hope for: adrenaline-pumping action, non-stop thrill and adventure, endless twists and turns, exotic locations, a-list actors at the top of their game, cutting edge CGI and VFX, and jaw-dropping stunts.  Also, both the film’s songs are already chartbusters. The time-tested pairing of SRK and Deepika Padukone is another major crowd puller. Not to mention, John Abraham’s return to playing antagonistic badass characters after a long hiatus. Also, watch out for a surprise cameo from someone very special.

The mad rush to watch Pathaan at a Cinema Hall.

The soaring success of Pathaan is set change the face of Indian cinema. It will encourage more filmmakers to make big budget action extravaganzas and multi-starrers shot across very many different locations across the world, not unlike the James Bond, Fast and Furious, and Mission: Impossible films. Also, the birth of the YRF Spy Universe is set to usher in a new era of franchise-based storytelling unpinned by not just sequels but also crossovers and spinoffs. Henceforth, whenever we look at the Hindi cinema, it will always be marked by the following dichotomy: Bollywood before Pathaan and Bollywood after Pathaan.
