STONY BROOK, NY (TIP): On September 14, 2026, Vishwa Hindi Diwas (Hindi Language Day) was celebrated for the first time at the Mattoo Center for India Studies at Stony Brook University. The evening featured six student poster presentations on various topics related to Hindi. The presenters were Intermediate level learners of Hindi who have been taking Hindi as their foreign language course for the past one year at Stony Brook University.
Presentations covered a diverse range of topics, including:
The History and Significance of Hindi, The Speech Sounds of Hindi, Representation of Hindi Media in New York, Learning Hindi as a Japanese- American, The Culture related to Hindi, and How AI understands Hindi.
These presentations sparked vibrant conversations among the visitors and inspired new Hindi enthusiasts to consider next year’s courses! The evening was accompanied by delicious Indian snacks, beverages, and popular Hindi music. As a souvenir, every visitor received a personalized bookmark with their name written in the Devanagari script and decorated with Indian crafts.
In all, it was a unique, student-centric celebration of Hindi filled with food, music, and engaging conversation. While this marks the launch of a new event at tradition, enter, we look forward to making it an annual tradition—providing a stage for students to showcase their progress and encouraging them to continue their journey with the Hindi language.
