In a Countdown Yoga Event Organized to Commemorate 25 Days to the International Day of Yoga 2025
GUATEMALA CITY (TIP): As part of the countdown to the International Day of Yoga 2025, the Embassy of India in Guatemala organized a vibrant yoga event on 27 May 2025 in collaboration with the Municipality of San José Pinula. The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over 500 students and residents, further amplifying the message of wellness, unity, and mindfulness. This marks the third successful event in the countdown series, following the earlier celebrations held in San Juan Sacatepéquez and Colegio Benito on 7 April (75 Days to IDY) and at Plaza Berlín, Guatemala City on 3 May (50 Days to IDY), both of which saw wide participation and were highly appreciated by the local communities.

Ambassador Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, in his address, thanked the Municipality and the participating students for their spirited support. He highlighted yoga as a timeless gift from India to the world—an invaluable tool for achieving inner peace, physical and mental balance, and global harmony. He emphasized the growing global relevance of yoga, especially in today’s fast-paced world, where the need for holistic well-being has never been greater. Ambassador Mohapatra deeply appreciated the support received from the Municipality of San José Pinula and the leadership of its Mayor, Mr. Jhonny Frederyk Ayala Toledo, whose commitment and cooperation made the event a great success. The Municipality facilitated the arrangements at the venue and mobilized large student participation from local schools, underlining the increasing popularity of yoga at the grassroots level.

The Embassy also gratefully acknowledges the vital support of its dedicated sponsors, whose contributions have played a significant role in the successful organization of the yoga countdown events leading up to IDY 2025. Among them, Lukah Medical S.A., represented by Mr. Manikandan Krishnan, has been a consistent and enthusiastic partner. Mr. Krishnan underscored the importance of supporting initiatives that promote wellness, mental health, and community engagement, stating that Lukah Medical was proud to contribute to an event rooted in the timeless Indian practice of yoga, which continues to resonate with diverse communities across Guatemala. For today’s event, Lukah Medical generously provided specially branded yoga T-shirts to the participants, adding a vibrant and cohesive identity to the session. TVS Motors, another valued sponsor, ensured the comfort and hydration of participants by supplying bottled water and natural fruit juices. Their thoughtful contribution was well-received and helped ensure a smooth and health-conscious environment, particularly important given the participation of over 500 young students. These sponsors, among others, are not only supporting individual yoga sessions but are also integral partners in the planning and execution of the grand event scheduled for 13 June 2025 in San Pedro Carchá, Cobán, where an estimated 10,000 to 12,000 participants are expected to gather.

Looking ahead, the Embassy is gearing up for a grand celebration of the International Day of Yoga 2025 at San Pedro Carchá, Cobán, on 13 June 2025. This mega event is expected to bring together approximately 10,000–12,000 participants, including students, teachers, yoga enthusiasts, and members of civil society. India’s efforts in spreading the practice of yoga continue to receive overwhelming support in Guatemala, where municipalities are actively mobilizing local communities and schoolchildren. Yoga is especially gaining traction in educational institutions, where it is embraced as a means to foster discipline, focus, and well-being. The growing interest reaffirms the cultural bridge built through yoga diplomacy, bringing India and Guatemala closer in spirit and purpose.
