PITTSBURGH (TIP): The University of Pittsburgh and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations have renewed their partnership to support the ICCR of Indian Studies.
Ambassador Binay S. Pradhan, the Consul General of India in New York, and Dr. Joan Gabel, chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh, signed a memorandum of understanding on July 16 to formalize the continuation of the academic program.
The agreement, backed by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Education, reinstates a collaboration first launched in 2017. The partnership established a visiting professorship program, bringing distinguished Indian scholars to the university each year to teach and lead academic research on India’s economy, society, history and culture.
“The initiative is aimed at generating sustained academic interest in India while strengthening educational and cultural ties with universities around the world,” the ICCR said in a statement.
The University of Pittsburgh is only the second institution in the United States to host the ICCR chair, following Rutgers University.,
