BUCHAREST (TIP): Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania visited Alexandria, Teleorman County, on 24th March 2026 to participate in the Romania-India Business Forum and to hold a series of engagements with local authorities and business leaders aimed at strengthening India–Romania economic and investment cooperation at the regional level.


During the visit, the Ambassador took part in the Romania-India Business Forum, where he interacted with representatives of the local administration and the business community. Discussions focused on exploring opportunities for collaboration in key sectors such as industry, energy, agriculture, information technology, and investment, including the promotion of joint ventures and technology partnerships. The engagement highlighted Teleorman County’s growing potential as a destination for Indian businesses and underscored the importance of fostering closer economic ties between India and Romania at the regional level.
As part of his visit, the Ambassador toured the Electrotel factory in Alexandria and met with its CEO, Mr. Vasile Velciu. The discussions focused on industrial cooperation, manufacturing capabilities, and opportunities to strengthen India–Romania supply chain partnerships, particularly in value-added manufacturing and component production. The visit provided valuable insights into the region’s industrial ecosystem and its potential for deeper collaboration with Indian companies.

The Ambassador also met with Mr. Adrian Ionuț Gâdea, President of the Teleorman County Council, to discuss avenues for strengthening regional cooperation and advancing bilateral economic partnerships. The discussions highlighted the county’s strong potential in sectors such as automobiles, electrical equipment, electronics, and chemicals, and explored opportunities for increased Indian investment in these areas, including through business delegations and sector-specific missions.
In a separate meeting, the Ambassador met with Mr. Victor Drăgușin, Mayor of Alexandria, to explore opportunities for enhancing local-level cooperation and expanding economic and community ties between India and Romania. The discussions emphasized the interest of Indian companies in investing in the municipality, particularly in the automobile, electrical, electronics, and chemical sectors, as well as the importance of fostering people-to-people engagement, educational exchanges, and cultural cooperation.
The visit underscored India’s commitment to strengthening its economic partnership with Romania by engaging closely with regional stakeholders and promoting mutually beneficial investment opportunities. It also reflected the growing interest of Indian companies in contributing to Romania’s industrial and economic development and in building long-term, sustainable partnerships with regional and local authorities.
