Indian participants expressed keen interest in expanding exports to Romania and the wider European market.

Romanian companies reciprocated with strong interest, recognizing India’s position as one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of gems and jewelry. Government initiatives such as Make in India, ease-of-doing-business reforms, and export facilitation measures were highlighted as key enablers of sustained growth in the sector.
The hybrid format ensured wide participation and accessibility, with over 25 Romanian companies attending in-person at the Embassy premises, while around 15 Indian companies participated virtually from India, facilitated by GJEPC. The discussions covered topics such as quality standards, hallmarking, certification requirements, customs procedures, logistics, and market access within the European Union. Indian companies also shared success stories of their exports to European markets and compliance with international quality benchmarks.

This was followed by remarks from Dr. Tariq Thomas, Director, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, and Mr. Sabyasachi Ray, Executive Director, GJEPC, who led the B2B engagement along with six Indian companies that presented and shared overviews of their respective businesses.
Mr. Sabyasachi Ray also briefed participants on the role of GJEPC in expanding India’s gems and jewellery trade globally. GJEPC established in 1966 by the Government of India, the Council promotes exports and supports the growth of the sector worldwide.
