Regional Hindi Conference: A Global Initiative Organized by the Embassy of India in Romania

BUCHAREST (TIP): The Embassy of India in Bucharest, in collaboration with Romanian American University (RAU), organized the Regional Hindi Conference on 28–29 January 2026 at the RAU University, Bucharest. The two-day international event convened prominent Hindi scholars, language educators, researchers, cultural practitioners, and institutional representatives from across Europe, Central Asia, USA and India to engage in substantive dialogue on the teaching, study, and global promotion of the Hindi language.

The Conference served as a significant platform for exchange on the evolving role of Hindi not only as a cultural identity marker but also as a medium of academic, professional and intercultural communication. In today’s interconnected global landscape, Hindi is steadily gaining relevance in areas of education, culture, technology, and people-to-people ties, reinforcing India’s expanding global engagement.

The Opening Ceremony was inaugurated with a welcome address by Prof. Dr. Costel Negricea, Rector of the Romanian American University, followed by an address from H.E. Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of India to Romania and Concurrently accredited to Moldova, who conveyed a special message on the occasion of World Hindi Day, underscoring the enduring significance of the Hindi language internationally.

Representing the Ministry of External Affairs, Ms. Anju Ranjan, Joint Secretary, held an interactive dialogue with the participants to gain deeper insights into the current landscape of Hindi education across Europe and to explore future avenues for its strengthening through digital media, online platforms and the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It was also conveyed that, drawing upon these collective European experiences, the Ministry may consider the organization of next World Hindi Conference soon.

Distinguished participants from several countries, including Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Hungary, Belgium, Poland, Serbia, Turkey, Armenia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, USA, Romania and India enriched the deliberations with their diverse perspectives and insights.

Over the course of the Conference, discussions focused on contemporary pedagogical practices, linguistic challenges, curriculum frameworks, and the future of Hindi education across diverse linguistic environments. Emphasis was placed on expanding structured academic pathways, increasing the pool of trained Hindi teachers, and leveraging digital technologies including Artificial Intelligence to enhance Hindi learning globally.

Participants also shared innovative teaching approaches and highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration to strengthen Hindi departments and programs in universities across Europe. The Conference underscored the shared commitment to fostering linguistic and cultural exchange, promoting interdisciplinary academic engagement, and advancing the presence of Hindi in global education networks.

Cultural performances and informal interactions added vibrancy to the event, reflecting the rich cultural interplay between India and the host region, and further reinforcing mutual appreciation for language and cultural diversity.
