BUCHAREST (TIP): Dr. Manoj Kumar Mohapatra, Ambassador of the Republic of India to Romania, undertook a series of regional engagements in Argeș and Bacău counties aimed at advancing India-Romania cooperation across economic, academic, and institutional partnerships. The visit formed part of the Embassy’s broader efforts to deepen engagement with regional authorities, promote trade and investment opportunities, and strengthen people-to-people and educational ties between the two countries.

In Argeș County, the Ambassador participated in the RIZ Forum Business Conference held in Topoloveni, an event that brought together local authorities, entrepreneurs, and representatives of the business community to discuss economic development and international partnerships. On the sidelines of the forum, Ambassador Mohapatra met Mr. Gheorghiță Boțârcă, Mayor of Topoloveni, and Ms. Alina-Ioana Georgescu, Mayor of Călimănești. The discussions focused on exploring opportunities for cooperation between Indian companies and local administrations, particularly in areas such as manufacturing, supply chains, technology, and investment-driven development. The meetings highlighted the growing interest in strengthening local-level engagement as an important pillar of the broader India-Romania partnership.

In addition, Ambassador Mohapatra held a productive meeting with Mr. Cristian Gentea, Mayor of Pitești, Mr. George Caval, President of the Argeș Chamber of Commerce, and representatives of the local business community in the City of Pitesti, which is the Capital of the Arges County. The discussions centered on expanding bilateral investment opportunities and strengthening economic cooperation between Indian companies and regional industries. Participants noted that more than ten Indian companies are already active in Pitești and the surrounding region, contributing significantly to local economic growth, job creation, and the development of supply chain partnerships. The meeting also explored prospects for further collaboration in sectors such as automotive components, information technology services, engineering, and advanced manufacturing.

The Ambassador also met Ms. Ioana Făcăleață, Prefect of Argeș County, and Mr. Marius Florin Nicolescu, Vice President of the Argeș County Council. The discussions focused on strengthening institutional engagement and identifying opportunities to further enhance economic cooperation between India and the region. Both sides emphasized the importance of closer collaboration between national and regional stakeholders in promoting investment, facilitating business partnerships, and supporting sustainable economic development.

As part of India’s continued commitment to expanding educational partnerships, Ambassador Mohapatra met Mr. Tudor Petrescu and Mr. Cristian Negrescu, Vice Rectors of the University of Pitești. The discussions highlighted the importance of academic cooperation in strengthening long-term bilateral relations. Both sides explored opportunities to promote student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, and the development of dual-degree and collaborative academic programs between Indian universities and Romanian higher education institutions.

The engagement also emphasized the growing interest among Indian students in pursuing studies in Europe and the potential for Romanian universities to further expand their international academic partnerships.
During his visit to Bacău, Ambassador Mohapatra held meetings with several regional leaders and institutional representatives. These included Ms. Andreea Negru, Prefect of Bacău County; Ms. Ionela Cristina Breahna-Pravat, President of the Bacău County Council; Mr. Lucian Daniel Stanciu-Viziteu, Mayor of Bacău; representatives of the Bacău Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Mr. Doru Simovici.
The discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between India and Bacău County in areas such as trade, investment, and regional economic development. Particular emphasis was placed on the potential for increased engagement between Indian companies and the local business ecosystem, as well as the importance of fostering partnerships that support innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable economic growth.
The Ambassador also participated in a business meeting in Bacău with local industry leaders and entrepreneurs. The interaction provided an opportunity to highlight India’s growing economic dynamism and its expanding role as a global hub for technology, manufacturing, and innovation. Discussions explored potential areas for cooperation between Indian and Romanian companies, including supply chain integration, industrial partnerships, and new investment opportunities that could further strengthen the economic dimension of the India–Romania relationship.

These engagements reflect India’s continued commitment to strengthening its partnership with Romania not only at the national level but also through deeper collaboration with regional authorities, academic institutions, and the business community. By promoting dialogue, encouraging investment, and expanding educational and institutional cooperation, such initiatives contribute to building a stronger and more dynamic framework for India–Romania relations in the years ahead.
