Yoshita Singh is an award-winning multi-media journalist with over 22 years of experience, including 17 years as a foreign correspondent. She has reported from the US and India on international relations, foreign policy, United Nations and its agencies, India-US ties, global trade, politics, business and culture and multilateral relations. She is currently the Chief United Nations and New York Correspondent for Press Trust of India (PTI), India’s largest newswire headquartered in New Delhi. Yoshita has previously reported from the Boston area, Chicago and New Delhi.
Yoshita was awarded the 2019 ‘Apravasi Bharatiya Ratna Puruskar’ by the Uttar Pradesh Government in India for her extraordinary contribution to the field of journalism. The annual award by India’s largest state honors outstanding achievement and contribution by its diaspora in various fields. In 2021, she was honored by the Consulate General of India, New York on occasion of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, the biennial event to celebrate the Indian diaspora and their outstanding achievements, in recognition of her leadership and community service.
She is the author of ‘Shrilal Shukla’s Raag Darbari: Satire in Indian Literature’. Her debut book is a critical analysis on the evolution of satire in Indian Literature, with distinguished Indian author Shrilal Shukla’s masterpiece and award-winning ‘Raag Darbari’ as the central focus. Yoshita sits on the jury of the New York Indian Film Festival, the oldest and most prestigious film festival showcasing cinema from and about the Indian subcontinent.
In March 2025, she was the awardee from India at The Society of Foreign Consuls in New York (SoFC) annual International Women’s Day Celebration at the Consulate General of India in New York. She was part of cohort of 14 exceptional women from SoFC member consulates honored for significant contributions in various fields. On International Women’s Day, the organization honors one woman each from its member nations for her accomplishments. She was the honoree from India, awarded for her contributions and achievements in the field of journalism and media. The SoFC International Women’s Day Celebration remains a cornerstone event in the organization’s annual calendar, reinforcing its mission to strengthen diplomatic ties while celebrating cultural diversity and women’s empowerment on a global scale. Founded in 1925, the Society of Foreign Consuls in New York represents the world’s largest consular corps, comprising Consulates, Consulates General and Honorary Consulates based in New York City.
In 2023, Yoshita was honored and recognized for her work in journalism at a special assembly at the Akshardham Temple in Robbinsville, New Jersey. Yoshita was honored with a ‘Certificate of Appreciation’ in December 2018 by one of America’s largest diaspora organizations, The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) of the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut, recognizing her support and contribution in the media space. In 2017, Yoshita received a Citation by Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos for her “extraordinary success…selfless commitment to community and its residents” as a journalist and author.
As PTI’s only correspondent in the New York area since August 2011, Yoshita has covered a broad spectrum of subjects – from the annual high-level UN General Assembly sessions, visits by Indian Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Manmohan Singh to US Presidential elections and the T20 Cricket World Cup. She has also covered landmark UN events such as the Summit of the Future, agreements such as the Paris Climate Accord, adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals, India’s role and contribution at the UN, bilateral and multilateral issues at the UN, India-US ties, the Indian diaspora, visits to the US by Indian Prime Ministers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s State Visit to the US in June 2023, and Cabinet Ministers as well as a wide array of economic, legal, social, cultural and entertainment issues.
Her accurate and unbiased news reports have appeared in leading Indian newspapers, magazines and several online portals and cited by scores of TV channels. Due to her expertise, she is regularly invited to speak at panels and interviewed on news channels on various topics. Her work has been consistently cited in dozens of critically acclaimed books, trade publications, research papers, think-tank reports and journals.
Before being posted in New York, Yoshita was based in Chicago and Boston from 2008-2011. From Chicago, she provided extensive coverage of the terrorism case of 26/11 Mumbai attacks accused David Headley. From Boston, she reported on the strong student community, especially from India, and the leading role played by Indian-origin academicians in America’s educational fabric.
Yoshita worked for three years in PTI’s headquarters in New Delhi from 2006-2008, covering India’s Ministry of Commerce and reporting on international trade and industry, as well as bilateral relations with India’s key trading partners.
She has travelled to Sri Lanka, Malaysia, South Africa on reporting assignments and had also covered the 2008 World Trade Organization Mini-Ministerial meeting in Geneva. During her tenure in PTI New Delhi, she received a record five in-house awards for best coverage selected by PTI’s top editors.
Before joining PTI, Yoshita was a features writer for The Lucknow Times and The Education Times, supplements of India’s largest English language daily The Times of India, from 2003-2005.
Yoshita has done a digital media course from Harvard University. She has a Master’s Degree in English Literature from the University of Lucknow in India and a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism from the Symbiosis Institute of Mass Communications, Pune, India.
She lives in Chappaqua, New York with her husband and two children.
