Ambassador of India’s Visit to Vaslui and Botoșani Strengthens India–Romania Regional Cooperation and Economic Partnerships

BUCHAREST (TIP): The Ambassador of India to Romania undertook an official visit to Vaslui and Botoșani Counties on 2–3 July 2026, holding a series of high-level engagements with regional and local authorities aimed at strengthening India–Romania cooperation in agriculture, trade, investment, and regional development. The visit reflected India’s growing engagement with Romania’s regions and underscored the importance of local partnerships in advancing the broader bilateral relationship.

Strengthening Agricultural and Economic Cooperation in Vaslui 

The visit commenced in Vaslui County, where the Ambassador met with H.E. Mr. Andrei Șerban, Prefect of Vaslui County, and Mr. Mihai-Cătălin Botez, Member of the Chamber of Deputies, to discuss regional development and opportunities to deepen India–Romania cooperation in agriculture, livestock, and food production. The discussions highlighted the strategic importance of the agri-food sector in both countries and explored avenues for collaboration in sustainable farming, modern livestock management, food processing, and agricultural innovation, recognizing the sector as an important driver of economic growth and rural development.

Following the meeting, the Ambassador visited Fermele Moraru, one of the region’s leading integrated poultry farming and processing enterprises. The visit offered valuable insights into the company’s modern production facilities, advanced livestock management practices, and high standards in food processing. Discussions focused on opportunities for collaboration between Indian and Romanian companies in poultry production, agricultural technology, veterinary sciences, food processing, and supply chain development. The Ambassador noted that India’s extensive expertise in agriculture and agri-technologies, combined with Romania’s strong agricultural potential, creates significant opportunities for building resilient agri-business partnerships, enhancing food security, promoting sustainable production, and expanding bilateral trade in agricultural and food products.

Meetings with Regional Leadership and Business Community 

The Ambassador also held a joint meeting with Mr. Ciprian-Ionuț Trifan, President of the Vaslui County Council; Mr. Ionel Constantin, President of the Vaslui Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and Mr. Valeriu Caragață, Vice Mayor of Vaslui. Discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation, promoting bilateral trade and investment, and encouraging greater engagement between Indian businesses and the local business community.

The participants exchanged views on opportunities for cooperation across a range of sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, renewable energy, information technology, and logistics. The Ambassador emphasized India’s rapidly growing economy and encouraged closer business-to-business interactions as a means of translating the strong political relationship between India and Romania into tangible economic partnerships. Both sides agreed that regional cooperation will play an increasingly important role in expanding bilateral trade and attracting new investments.

Regional Development and Strategic Cooperation in Botoșani 

On 3 July, the Ambassador continued his engagements in Botoșani County, where he met with H.E. Ms. Raluca-Ștefania Curelariu, Prefect of Botoșani County, and Mr. Constantin Bursuc, Vice President of the Botoșani County Council. Discussions focused on regional development priorities and identifying new opportunities for cooperation between India and Romania at the local level.

The Ambassador highlighted India’s interest in expanding partnerships with Romanian regions in areas such as infrastructure, agriculture, education, investment promotion, and capacity building. Both sides discussed the importance of strengthening institutional dialogue and facilitating exchanges that would contribute to sustainable regional development and greater economic connectivity.

Meeting with the Mayor of Botoșani

The Ambassador also met with H.E. Mr. Cosmin Ionuț Andrei, Mayor of Botoșani, and members of the municipal administration. Discussions centered on investment opportunities, urban development, and the city’s strategic geographic position near the borders with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.

The Mayor presented Botoșani’s economic potential and highlighted the municipality’s growing attractiveness for international investors. Particular attention was given to the city’s strategic role as a future logistics and economic hub supporting the reconstruction and economic recovery of Ukraine. The Ambassador welcomed these perspectives and noted that Indian companies possess considerable expertise in infrastructure development, engineering, construction, renewable energy, and manufacturing, positioning them well to contribute to future regional development initiatives.

Both sides expressed interest in strengthening cooperation between Indian businesses and local authorities, with a view to exploring mutually beneficial investment opportunities that would contribute to economic growth, employment generation, and regional prosperity.

The visit to Vaslui and Botoșani reaffirmed India’s commitment to broadening its engagement with Romania beyond the national level by fostering partnerships with regional administrations, business communities, and local institutions. It also reflected the growing recognition of Romania’s regions as important partners in advancing bilateral trade, investment, agricultural cooperation, and sustainable development. Through continued dialogue and practical collaboration, India and Romania are laying the foundations for a stronger, more diversified, and future-oriented partnership.
