HEIDI KLUM GIVES UP LINGERIE MODELLING

Heidi Klum has given up lingerie modelling. The 40- year-old supermodel says she would no longer feel ”comfortable” on a catwalk wearing only a bra and briefs. She told TV show Access Hollywood live: ”I wouldn’t model with my underwear down the runway anymore. I think I would find it a little uncomfortable, maybe. ”I still do photoshoots for [magazine] covers and different things or advertising stuff.

” The mother of four – who split from her husband, singer Seal, in 2012 and his now in a relationship with her former bodyguard Martin Kristen – also said she is happy to get older and embrace the lines of age rather than have surgery. She said: ”I wouldn’t say that I love [my crow’s feet], but that’s just the way it happens, right? We get wrinkles from smiling.

”I’ve never had any [cosmetic procedures]. I’ve been too scared, to be honest with you. I’m scared that all of a sudden you’re changing too much, your face starts changing, I don’t know ”I would have a hard time looking in the mirror and seeing something that I’m not used to seeing. I’d be afraid.”

  • The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

    The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

PLOT: Katniss finds herself battling anxiety issues a year after winning the 74th Hunger Games. Her nightmares come true, when she is once again targeted by the Capitol, in an attempt to crush an oncoming revolution. Will the odds be in her favour this time around? REVIEW: Catching Fire picks up where The Hunger Games (2012) left off. By winning the previous season, Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mellark ( Josh Hutcherson) are on the radar of the Capitol, for instilling a sense of hope among the oppressed people of Panem.

Fearing, the two may spark a rebellion, the Capitol decides to clip their wings and move them around like chess pieces. A twist in the games by President Snow, throws them back into the bloodthirsty arena. Can they identify ‘who the real enemy is’? If you like ‘grim dystopian sci-fi films’, Catching Fire is a spectacular ‘edge-of-the-seat’ thriller, which is unnerving, emotionally intense and immensely engaging. Unlike most sequels, Francis Lawrence ensures that his installment is not just a remake. While the first focussed on the deadly games, this one’s more about the political moves and strategies.

The film is strangely unsettling and uplifting at the same time. An early scene in the film shows Katniss, sitting alone in a train compartment, staring out the window. She reminds you of a bird trapped in a cage. Its metaphors, unsaid emotions like these that make the film brilliant. ‘There are no victors, just survivors’. The story has an acute relevance to contemporary society, where we are expected to be pawns in our day-to-day lives. Can you put your life on the line for others? Suzanne Collins’ teenage-pawn-turned-rebel protagonist Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) fights her own battles, making her one of the best role models of young adult fiction.

All performances are solid but Jennifer Lawrence is the soul of the film. She makes you want to raise your fingers (District 12 sign) in respect of her incredible understated performance. Spine-chilling cinematography evokes that much required eerie feeling throughout. Dramatic costumes are another highlight. The film makes our hopelessness pit against our own indomitable spirit of survival. Who wins?

  • Club 60

    Club 60

STORY:A couple in their 60’s loses their only son to gun violence in the US. With no reason to live and nobody to love, the two almost give up on life until they bump into the jovial members of Club 60.

REVIEW: After the untimely death of their only son, neurosurgeon, Dr Tariq Sheikh (Farooque Sheikh) and his wife Dr Saira (Sarika) are unable to put the pieces of their broken life together. Tariq suffers from depression, while Saira struggles to cope with her husband’s suicidal tendencies. In an attempt to make a fresh start in life and to get rid of the ‘nothingness’ that haunts them, they shift to Mumbai from Pune.

More than the city’s distractions, it’s their loud neighbour Manubhai (Raghubir Yadav), who manages to kill the deafening silence that plagues them with his somewhat annoying yet adorable antics. Manubhai introduces Tariq to members of his sports club – where life begins at 60. Club 60 has its heart in the right place. Sanjay Tripathy makes an earnest attempt to reach out to the elderly, who seek purpose in life. This one scene in particular where Saira doubts her longing for her son is heartbreaking. Farooque Sheikh and Sarika are outstanding.

They prove what a huge role and huge difference, a ‘good casting’ makes in cinema. They hold the film together with their presence, even as the film deviates from tragedy to the unwanted naughty antics of the oldies. Guess the intention was to show mischief but the club members eying women of all ages and cracking jokes with sexual innuendo, makes them look way too lecherous for your liking. We wish the supporting characters were more defined and sincere.

You don’t feel much for anyone except for the lead couple. Also the film gets a tad predictable in the second half. Why must everyone have a dark past? Club 60 is essentially a heartrending tale of a couple, coping with an irreparable loss. In spite of the flaws, you can watch it solely for the immensely talented Farooque Shaikh and the sublime Sarika.

HUMA DOES NOT WANT TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ON ANURAG KASHYAP

Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi comes across as a very candid person who is quite honest and open about her views on films, her connect with meaningful cinema and being extremely happy to be in an interesting phase of her career. She said, “So many new subjects and interesting films are being made. I am so happy that I am getting to do newer films and people are interested in watching my work.

I just hope that my audience only grows bigger.” However, when the conversation steered towards filmmaker Anurag Kashyap and about rumours that her friendship with the filmmaker has created differences in his marriage, she says, “I think the chat is over. It is for these reasons that we have our people to protect us and stand with us during interviews so that we don’t have to answer such questions.”

KATRINA VOTED WORLD’S SEXIEST ASIAN WOMAN FOURTH TIME

The British Bollywood babe narrowly defeated reigning champion Priyanka Chopra, TV superstar Drashti Dhami, and Hindi cinema’s current box-office queen Deepika Padukone as world’s sexiest Asian woman. She has got a huge number of votes from fans around the globe. The gorgeous Katrina Kaif secured top spot in the world-renowned 50 Sexiest Asian Women List 2013 with Priyanka Chopra coming second, Drashti Dhami third and Deepika Padukone fourth.

A permanent fixture in the top three for the past six years, Katrina beat stiff competition from the world’s most stunning Asian women in the tenth edition of UK-based Eastern Eye newspaper’s definitive Sexy List. The unprecedented fourth win comes just weeks before Katrina hits the big screen again in one of the year’s biggest Bollywood blockbusters Dhoom 3: Back In Action. Katrina said: “I didn’t know it was a record! That’s a nice surprise and a lot of fun to hear.

I like it because Eastern Eye newspaper is the one my sisters see because they live in London. It’s lovely, but also people are reacting to what they see. Obviously if everyone were to see me when I wake up in the morning or in my track pants and then vote for me, then maybe I would be a little bit more believing of it myself. But of course it’s very flattering.”

  • Bullett Raja

    Bullett Raja

STORY: Simple Raja Mishra turns into deadly Bullett Raja – who goes bang and who whimpers?

REVIEW: Straight up, Bullett Raja (BR) is zany and funny, an Uttar Pradesh take on Sholay’s Jai and Veeru, ‘twice-born’ in Lucknow as Raja Mishra (Khan) and Rudra Pratap (Shergill). Educated Raja and Rudra are reluctant gangsters, turned by violent, caste-ridden UP politics into what political advisor Srivastava (who Skypes from jail) calls “political commandos.” These ‘commandos’ work at the command of minister Ram Babu Shukla (Babbar), finishing his enemies and finessing his friends.

But there’s a big bang when Raja and Rudra meet Bajaj (Grover), powerful financier who’s rude to the dynamite duo – and gets kidnapped by them. Revenge follows with conspiracies, lots more bang-bang and some LOL jokes. Hence, opponents are shot during a ‘Bak the Talk’ shoot, gangster Sumer Yadav (Ravi Kishan, in good form) is told, “Aap jail ke superstar hain, fan following toh hogi”, Raja tells girlfriend Mitali (Sinha) how he prefers ‘noose’ and ‘jaanwaron ka channel’ to serials – and says ‘I love you’ in a precious scene.

All along, the bang-bang cascades and ace cop Arun Singh (Jamwal) is dispatched to kill Raja. BR scores with its tight performances, Saif terrific with his clenched-jaw comedy, Shergill intense and growlingly funny, Jamwal’s flying kicks and wavy hair making the landscape even hotter. Sonakshi’s pleasant if unsurprising while Babbar and Grover infuse their roles with oily, kachori-like spice. UP comes alive too as Bullett Raja leaps from Gomti to gaus, sex to sex pistols, Hollywood to Hazratganj, its imagery somewhere between Omkara and Dabangg.

Where the film misses a bulls-eye is an excess 20 minutes, music that, despite Tamanche Pe Disco, remains average and direction that sometimes – don’t miss the guy flagellating himself as Saif makes a momentous decision – wavers. Still, BR is a racy ride, cynical, yet sweet, dark, yet bright. Go watch – you’ll enjoy those bangs in the dark.

KAREENA KAPOOR KHAN TO PLAY AN ACTRESS AGAIN

Ever since Kareena Kapoor Khan greenlighted a project with Farhan Akhtar as her co-star for a film coproduced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan, speculation has been rife that the film, directed by Dev Benegal, is based on poet-lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi and Bebo would be playing Amrita Pritam, the late Sahir sahab’s love interest. However, Farhan categorically denied that his film with Bebo was a biopic on Sahir.

“I’m not doing any biopic at this point,” he said. Sources tell us that the film actually has Kareena playing an actress. She also played one in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine. In her current assignment, she falls in love with Farhan, who reportedly plays a contract killer. Ritesh confirmed that Bebo is indeed playing an actress but refused to divulge more.

CAN’T RECREATE ‘NAGADA’ WITHOUT BHANSALI: DEEPIKA

Deepika Padukone’s fluid and energy-packed dance in the ‘Nagada sang dhol’ song from ‘Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela’ has been widely appreciated but she doubts if she can recreate the grandeur of the number sans the film’s director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. She says the song’s popularity was the “least expected of the lot”. “There were other songs in the album which we thought would become popular… this was the underdog,” Deepika told media.

“In fact, I am doing a show where I am expected to recreate that magic but I don’t think I’ll be able to do that if I don’t have Sanjay to direct,” she said. Deepika is slated to perform at the Temptation Reloaded show in Dubai on Sunday with stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit. On the Bollywood front, she has completed Homi Adajania’s English language film Finding Fanny. “It should be ready to release soon. “I am also doing Happy New Year with Abhishek Bachchan and Shah Rukh, all fun boys to work with.

I am also looking forward to start Imtiaz’s film with Ranbir,” said Deepika, who has been on a roll with her box office successes this year. Planning a holiday sometime soon now? “I am sure I can squeeze in some family time, it’s always welcome,” said the 27-year-old, who recently made time to attend a friend’s engagement in her hometown Bangalore.

KATE MOSS STRIPS FOR PLAYBOY’S ANNIV ISSUE

Kate Moss has striped naked for the 60th anniversary issue of the Playboy magazine. For the cover, the 39-yearold supermodel has kept a bit more flesh under wraps, as she donned the classic black bunny ears collar, corset and bunny tail while kneeling on the floor. The anchor tattoo on her wrist and another one on her hip are clearly visible, the Daily Star reported. In one of the snaps, a naked Moss reclines, covering her modesty with a hand draped in diamonds, while in another she covers her face with a mask and obligatory floppy ears, barely covering her cleavage behind a silk throw.

JENNIFER LAWRENCE: FAME HAS RUINED MY PRIVATE LIFE

The ‘Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ star claims her high-profile acting career has robbed her of her freedom and she regrets not being able to hang out in coffee shops any more without fans hounding her. She told Spanish website Mujerhoy.com: ”My personal life is now ruined. I’ve had to create a new one and get used to this new life. It’s hard and it takes time, but I’m sure I will get it. ”I’m just mourning my old life. I miss that. I don’t want to forget what it’s like going to a coffee shop and people looking at me like a normal person. A part of me can’t get used to it and it makes me sad.”

The 23-year-old actress – who landed an Oscar earlier this year for her performance in ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ – is best known for her portrayal as selfless heroine Katniss Everdeen in ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise, and she admits to feeling just as uncomfortable as her alter-ego when she was first thrust into the spotlight. Jennifer explained: ”It is funny how she and I have made this trip together from the beginning. In the first movie they force her to wear make-up, wear dresses and people talk about things that she doesn’t understand. ”I know exactly how she feels … I experienced the same thing. This can be a very weird world, but after a while, you’re not afraid anymore and you can handle it.”

  • Delivery Man

    Delivery Man

STORY: David is your average, everyday guy who once made some dough on the side as a sperm donor named Starbuck, fathering 533 kids. When 142 of them decide to file a lawsuit to find out the identity of their dad, David is put in a situation he’s never been in before. REVIEW: A meat delivery truck driver by profession, David Wozniak (Vaughn) is as nondescript as they come. Even his pregnant girl, Emma (Smulders) tells him to ‘get a life’. His best pal Brett (Pratt) knows that David’s a bit of a simpleton with an eccentric streak. Although David knows he is a loser, he is never short of an innocuous scam or two, to invest in some Ponzi scheme to get richer. David gets a shock when a lawyer tells him he is facing a paternity case of this magnitude. But David’s shock quickly – and inexplicably – leads him to becoming some kind of benefactor to his anonymous kids.

He goes about tracking them to prove to Emma and himself that he can handle fatherhood. While this aims to be a feel-good movie, it also serves up mountains of mush. Vaughn does seem to do his damndest to inject some pathos into his character, which does at times elicit empathy and even sympathy. But playing the pitiful pater familias isn’t all there is to it. Only his buddy Brett manages to emerge as a persistent voice of reason as well as his legal means of recourse. Additionally, the subplot of David being in debt to the tune of $100,000 has no bearing on the movie other than to influence some legal decisions. Emma is the only female character of any significance. She seems to be out of his league, but like a true underdog slugger, he won’t give up to prove his love, which among other things has him bringing her greasy cheeseburgers and stolen sunflowers. Based on 2011’s movie, Starbuck, this is Vaughn’s vehicle all the way. All said and done, the movie has its heart in the right place.

WOULD LOVE TO BE IN A HINDI MOVIE: SHARON STONE

American actressproducer Sharon Stone, currently in Mumbai for a fund-raising event, says she would love to be in a Hindi movie. “I’d love to be in one of the Hindi movies and, of course, I have seen many films. The language is different, but I like it,” Stone told reporters during the gala event organised by international organisation amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, in Mumbai.

Asked if she had learnt any Hindi, Stone said: “I have learnt to say ‘Namaste’.” “I love Indian food, I love spicy food. It’s fantastic. I got up today morning at 4 and went for a walk, it’s a moment that you feel. Its a whole different feeling — I went to a temple, it was great,” the actress said.

  • Insidious Chapter 2

    Insidious Chapter 2

STORY: The Lambert family continues to get haunted by evil spirits as they rediscover the past and regret their unsolicited paranormal connect with the dead. REVIEW: The ‘king of horror’ James Wan is back with Insidious Chapter 2 and if you don’t expect every horror film to be The Conjuring, you’ll find this one quite entertaining. However, since the sequel is clearly made with an intention to cash in on the success of its much more superior prequel, be prepared to find the scares a tad unimaginative, especially if you love the genre.

The film picks up right where the previous one (Insidious 2010) ended. After battling evil spirits from the dark side or ‘The Further’, where father Josh Lambert ( Patrick Wilson) himself travels, to get the soul of his son back, he returns with him safe but something changes. The Lambert family is haunted once again and there’s a massive backstory to explain ‘how it all started’. While the execution and some scare sequences are super-creepy, the whole unraveling the puzzle that comprises the backstory, gets too convoluted for a horror film.

The family is looking for answers throughout and while they are at it, you wonder where this whole investigative drama is headed, as opposed to the prequel, where the spook quotient was higher. No wonder Wan declared that he would move on to making other genres post this one for he must have clearly sensed the dangers of overindulgence. The cast has been repeated and it’s perfect. All actors manage to send shivers down your spine with their performance.

The setting of Josh’s old house in particular gives you the chills; dark rooms, lonely nights, whispers in the corridors and sudden screams…Wan knows what it takes to unsettle you. Insidious Chapter 2 is tense and intriguing. If you haven’t seen the previous film, this might work better for you. Also, for the fainthearted, if you analyze your dreams way too much or face sleep disorders, stay away.

  • Ram-Leela

    Ram-Leela

STORY: Boy and girl from warring factions love one another. Do they live happily ever after? REVIEW: What new can a filmmaker do with William Shakespeare’s classic love story Romeo and Juliet? The answer is, if you are Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who is technically sound and artistically astute as far as art and craft go, you just become impudent, set the story in Gujarat, sign Bollywood’s currently best actress Deepika Padukone (Leela), team her up with `I’ve-got-fire-in-myloins’ actor Ranveer Singh (Ram) and then let them loose on one another. So there’s the Sanada clan girl Leela who falls in love, or for the most part lust, with her enemy Ram, a Rajadi.

Their clans have been at war for 500 years and the exaggeratedly trigger-happy lot that these turbanwearing folk have been portrayed as clearly underlines that no matter what one Ram or Leela feel, the rest of the clan only believe in mutiny. So bullets fly, blood flows and bahus become victims of evil design. In between this warfare, Deepika and Ranveer touch, feel, kiss and cuddle and ensure you can feel their stirring. Quite unabashedly, the filmmaker uses his lead pair’s real and reel chemistry, fuses it with sexual tension and makes it compelling for you to partake in their love-hate relationship.

For the most part, Ram-Leela, SLB’s most commercial work till date, has nice doses of raunch and ras (juice). Since the plot is Shakespearan, the maker has the arduous task of telling you this story on an opulent scale. Vintage palaces and daunting deserts are fitted in with precision, giving you truly awe moments. The music and picturisation of ‘Tattad tattad’, ‘Lahu munh lag gaya’ and ‘Nagada sang dhol’ enrich your cinematic experience. Deepika is breathtaking and in top form. Ranveer displays his six packs and histrionics with fair ease. This could be the start of his journey into superstardom. You have to also applaud Richa Chadda and Supriya Pathak Kapur for being the talent they are.
