Filmmaker-host Karan Johar has officially set the stage for the final chapter of his long-running celebrity talk show, Koffee With Karan, dropping a teaser for its upcoming ninth and concluding season.
In the newly released promo, the filmmaker addresses the camera directly while taking phone calls, confirming that the show is drawing to a permanent close.
“You heard it right. It is going to be my last season of Koffee With Karan. I’m not acting, I’m not pretending. It is my last,” Johar says in the video.
Replying to a cheeky caller suggesting the show should have ended a decade ago, Johar adds, “Thank you for asking, but I haven’t invited you for eight seasons, so I don’t plan to invite you for the ninth.”
Addressing speculation regarding the guest line-up, the Koffee With Karan host clarifies another key exclusion and says, “No, no, no, cricketers are not invited. They are also not coming.”
The statement directly references the fallout from Hardik Pandya and K L Rahul’s infamous 2019 appearance, which triggered widespread backlash and brief suspensions for the cricketers.
Closing the teaser on a tongue-in-cheek note, the host concludes, “Darling, it’s my last season of Koffee With Karan. Why would I do anything controversial?”
Premiering in November 2004, Koffee With Karan is host Karan Johar’s flagship celebrity chat show. Built on an intimate, couch-style format, the series blends high-society gossip and unvarnished industry confessions with signature segments like the “Rapid Fire Round”.
Across its 22-year run—spanning cable television before shifting to digital streaming—the show has repeatedly driven entertainment headlines and sparked broader industry debates. From launching national conversations around nepotism to triggering cricketer suspensions following controversial remarks, Koffee With Karan remains a defining pop-culture touchstone for Hindi cinema.
While the makers have kept the official guest list strictly under wraps, Koffee With Karan Season 9 is set to begin streaming from October 14 on JioHotstar.
