The sequel to Avatar is finally here! Thirteen years after Avatar conquered the theatres in 2009, its second part, Avatar: The Way of Water is all set to hit the Indian screens on December 16. James Cameron’s Avatar was the highest-grossing release of all time with $2.9 billion worldwide. Avatar: The Way of Water, the sequel to this triple-Oscar-winning 3D sci-fi movie is expected to do even better, trade experts predict. Ahead of the film’s release, IndiaToday.in got in touch with trade analysts to get an understanding of how Avatar 2 will fare at the box office in India. Trade analyst Akshaye Rathi predicts that Avatar 2 will open in India with a whopping Rs 40 crore. He told IndiaToday.in, “Avatar 2 is going to be a historic opening without an iota of doubt. It will be the biggest opener of the year when it comes to Hollywood films in India or worldwide. I wouldn’t be surprised if the movie goes beyond Rs 40 crore on Day 1 itself in different formats in India. This is all languages – North and South – as well as formats like IMAX, 3D, 2D, etc put together. It is highly possible Avatar 2 will cross Rs 40 crore in total or even more.” Source: India Today
