But recent studies suggest some possible preventive measures that are not quite common. Here are five surprising ways to keep your heart and blood vessels healthy.

    Have dark chocolate

    A number of studies suggest that eating dark chocolate decreases your risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Another study found that those who eat small amounts of dark chocolate, had lower levels of a protein in their blood that is associated with inflammation. Other research suggests chocolate consumption may lower blood pressure, help prevent formation of artery plaque and improve blood flow. The benefits from chocolate may come from flavonoids, compounds in chocolate thought to help protect cells against damage. They are present in higher amounts in dark chocolate. Another study found that dark chocolate helps to inhibit an enzyme known as ACE, which is involved in regulating blood flow.

    Stay away from traffic

    According to a recent study that found an association between traffic noise and risk of stroke, the sound of horns, and noisy trucks may take a toll on your blood vessels. Besides, the exposure to loud noise may increase the body’s stress hormone levels, and increase blood pressure, which might contribute to the uptick in stroke risk.

    Get enough sleep

    Getting too little or too much sleep may increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. The results showed that those who slept six or fewer hours per night had a 48 per cent higher risk of developing or dying from heart disease, and a 15 per cent higher risk of developing or dying from stroke, than those who slept seven or eight hours per night. Too little shut eye may increase blood pressure and cholesterol, and put people at risk for obesity and Type 2 diabetes. But the study showed getting too much sleep was bad for the heart as well. Those who slept nine or more hours had a 41 per cent higher risk of developing and dying of heart disease than those who slept seven or eight hours.

    Eat blueberries

    Anthocyanins, found in foods such as blueberries, orange juice and eggplant are antioxidants. In a study, those who ate at least one serving of blueberries per week were 10 per cent less likely than those who ate no blueberries to develop high blood pressure. The researchers analysed the diets of 134,000 women and 47,000 men over a 14-year period. They studied to see how much anthocyanin, the subjects consumed. The study participants who had the highest amount of anthocyanins in their diets had an eight per cent lower risk of high blood pressure than those who ate the least amount of anthocyanins. This does not mean you opt for blueberry cakes.

    Beware of

    the fizz A recent study found, consuming diet sodas may increase your risk of stroke. The study, found that those who drank diet soda every day had a 48 per cent higher risk of stroke and heart attack than those who did not drink any soda at all. The results held true even after the researchers accounted for factors that might influence heart disease and stroke risks, such as whether or not the patient had metabolic syndrome or a history of heart disease. However, the researchers cautioned, the study only showed an association, and not a cause-effect link.

    I would suggest trying it because anything new that you do changes your body as a response reflex. But there is no research that suggests that you burn more calories by doing this.” Physiotherapist Dr Savita Rairikar feels it can prove useful to some extent. She said, “Running backward requires more concentration than running forward and this might be a reason behind burning more calories. One can suggest this to a person only after fully understanding the limitations of this method. As there is very less literature available on this matter and research on it is ongoing we are yet to say how useful is it taking into account a person’s physical capacity.”

    Does running backward reduce the stress and impact faced by the knees and bones of the legs? Dr Shailesh Hadgaonkar, consulting orthopaedic spine surgeon, said, “If you are doing it to strengthen your spine or back, then you need to think again. Running backwards uphill is not advisable for anyone with a problem in their spine or lower back. Otherwise, there is no problem in trying it out. Also ensure that you are running in a safe area like a park to prevent injury and that the right erect posture is maintained while running. It is too early to say if it is going to be more useful than running forward.”

Patricia Molina and coauthors from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, New Orleans, report that chronic THC administration was associated with greater survival of T cell populations and reduced overall cell death in the gut in monkeys, which is known to be a key target for simian immunodeficiency virus (HIV) replication and infection-related inflammation.

    “To better treat HIV infection, we need a better understanding of how it causes the disease we call AIDS. We also need alternative approaches to treatment, This study is important because it begins to explain how THC can influence disease progression in SIV-infected macaques. It also reveals a new way to slow disease progression,” Thomas Hope, Professor of Cell and Molecular Biology at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University, Chicago, said. The study was published in the journal AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses.

    ISLAMABAD (TIP): Ex-Pakistan president Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday appeared before a special court constituted to hear the treason case against him for the first time since it was constituted late last year.

    He had repeatedly missed hearings citing security and health reasons since December 24. Musharraf was widely expected to be indicted. Instead, justice Faisal Arab-led three-member bench issued a short order stating he would face indictment upon his second appearance before the court. “He would soon be ordered to appear in court again,” the order said.

    The ex-army chief’s lawyers argued their client should not be charged until the legality of the special court to hear the case is decided. “A decision about whether Musharraf should be tried by a military or a civilian court will be made on February 21,” said Ahmed Raza Kasuri, one of Musharraf’s lawyers.

    Earlier, the 70-year-old ex-president was brought to the court from a military hospital in Rawalpindi in a heavilyprotected convoy. He sat in witness box and stood briefly when addressed by the judge. But Musharraf did not speak. When Justice Arab asked him how he was feeling, he replied with a smile on his face that he was “good”.

    He remained in the court for 20 minutes and was taken back to the hospital, where he was admitted on January 3 after complaining of chest pain while traveling to the court for hearing. The trial against Musharraf is related to his suspension, abrogation and subversion of the constitution after imposition of emergency rule in November 2007.

    He is Pakistan’s first military ruler facing treason charges in a civilian court. The conviction in the case carries a possible death sentence or life imprisonment. Since his return from self-imposed exile in March 2013, Musharraf has faced several other criminal cases dating back to his days in office.

    NEW YORK (TIP): The Global Organization of People of Indian Origin (GOPIO International) has decided to hold its 25th (Jubilee) Anniversary in Port of Spain in Trinidad& Tobago, with a 2-day gala celebration on 27th May to 29th May, 2014 preceding the annual Indian Arrival Day commemoration in that country.

    GOPIO International Trinidad & Tobago Chapter will be the convention host, along with a well organized convention team which includes GOPIO’s regional and international chapters, executives, councils and life members, as well as businesses, government, organizations and academic supporters.

    Hosting of GOPIO 25th (Jubilee) Anniversary in Port of Spain has been enthusiastically endorsed and supported by the Government of Trinidad & Tobago, prominent persons of Indian origin and several chambers of commerce, businesses, organizations, academicians and academic institutions, media and others. The strong relationship between GOPIO and Trinidad & Tobago began with the formation of GOPIO in 1989 with high level representation of several prominent persons from Trinidad& Tobago, as well as other countries of the Caribbean region.

    This relationship blossomed to continuing participation in GOPIO at the highest levels at GOPIO’s major events and GOPIO’s many visits to Trinidad & Tobago over the years. In addition, the International Chapter of Trinidad & Tobago is among the most active and vibrant of GOPIO’s many chapters globally, addressing current and critical community issues such as spousal abuse, alcoholism, education, children and health concerns. Maloney sent a letter, February 19, to NYC Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña urging the Department of Education to include the festival of Diwali on the list of new public school holidays.

    “We appreciate your consideration of school holidays that reflect our diverse city and ensure that students aren’t forced to choose between attending school and observing important holidays with their families,” wrote the lawmakers in the letter. Diwali, which marks the beginning of the Hindu New Year, is a festival of great significance to millions of Indians and Indian Americans and is widely celebrated amongst the 3 million-plus Indian-American community, as well as others.

    Known as the festival of lights, Diwali is a time for thanksgiving and prayer for health, knowledge and prosperity. The festival is widely celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs and Jains, as well as others. Crowley led his colleagues in creating the first-ever Congressional Diwali celebration in October 2013. The event brought together hundreds of celebrants – including members of Congress, prominent Indian leaders, and members of the Indian American community – to build a greater understanding of differing cultural backgrounds and increase understanding and tolerance.
    In 2011, Crowley introduced a resolution to recognize Diwali and the strong and growing partnership between the U.S. and India.     For the study, scientists from University of Grenoble chose 114 men in the age group 18-44.

    They were given a meal of mashed potatoes with spicy pepper sauce and salt. The team observed who consumed more spicy pepper sauce. The men who poured a lot of sauce on their dish gave saliva samples, which was used to measure testosterone levels.

    Researchers found higher levels of male hormone in them, clearly making a correlation between higher hot sauce usage and testosterone.

    According to study co-author Laurent Begue, regular spicy-food consumption “contributes to increasing testosterone levels” but the mechanism is still not known, the Telegraph reported.

    Low testosterone levels are associated with lethargy or depressive mood.

    Oil and gas company sues city of Dallas over right to drill on leases

    DALLAS (TIP): Trinity East Energy sued the city of Dallas on Thursday, February 14 to recoup its investment in oil and gas leases because the City Council never permitted the company to drill on the property. Trinity East Energy paid the city $19 million for the leases years before the council decided not to permit drilling.

    The suit, which City Hall officials expected, was filed in Dallas County District Court. It alleges breach of contract, fraud and an unconstitutional taking, among other things. “This was a business transaction,” Trinity East president Steve Fort said in an interview on Thursday. “If the city had lived up to the deal that was made in our transaction, we wouldn’t be here today.”

    The city denied the allegations. Mayor Mike Rawlings, who opposes drilling in the city, voted in favor of the drilling permits last August. At the time, he said voting them down “could cost the city of Dallas millions of dollars of legal and other expenses.” On Thursday, he said of the lawsuit, “my prediction has come true.” “We need to think carefully when we vote on actions to not put ourselves in the courthouse,” the mayor said.

    “That being said, I feel great about our situation and our case.” Four months after the Trinity East permits were denied, in December, the City Council approved one of the nation’s most restrictive ordinances on natural gas drilling. It requires more than a quarter-mile between wells and protected uses such as homes. Industry executives, including Fort, insist it’s a virtual ban on drilling in Dallas. But years earlier, in 2008, Trinity East paid the city $19 million for the mineral rights to 3,600 acres in northwest Dallas, near the city’s Luna Vista Golf Course and the Elm Fork gun range.

    “In selling this real property interest to Trinity, the city knew that Trinity could only benefit from this contract if Trinity was actually allowed to drill a number of wells to produce gas,” the lawsuit said. “The city also knew that for drilling and production to occur, the city would be required to issue certain permits and other authorizations. Despite representations and promises by the city, as well as the city’s contractual obligation, that Trinity would be allowed to drill and produce minerals, the city refused to grant Trinity the necessary approvals to conduct drilling and production operations.”

    The company says it spent more than $30 million based on the city’s promises and lost “hundreds of millions more” in profits. The suit maintains that when it signed its deals with the city on Aug. 15, 2008, it received a letter from then-Dallas City Manager Mary Suhm saying she was “reasonably confident” Trinity East would be able to drill on a 22- acre tract of parkland on the west side of Luna Vista. “That was one of several representations and assurances we got from the city staff,” Fort said on Thursday. Suhm told the company she would help it win the right to drill on parkland, even as she publicly assured the City Council that she would not support drilling on city parkland.

    City spokesman Frank Librio said in a written statement that the lawsuit “lacks merit.” “After conducting public hearings, both the City Plan Commission and the City Council rejected Trinity East’s applications, finding that the proposed locations were inappropriate for drilling and production operations,” the statement said. “During the time Trinity East had the leases, gas prices became depressed and more became known about geological conditions in the area,” the statement said.

    “Although the city granted several zoning permits for drilling to other companies who requested to drill at more appropriate sites, none of those companies have followed through with actual drilling and production.” “The city will vigorously defend its right to exercise its regulatory powers to protect public health and safety as well as the environment.” Rawlings said he isn’t worried about the lawsuit hurting the perception of how Dallas does business. “We’ll win in the court and we’ll move on,” the mayor said. For Fort, the experience means “we would not do business with the city ever again.”

    WASHINGTON: Lawmakers approved a 13-month extension of US borrowing authority with no strings attached on February 12, shelving a fractious political debate over the nation’s debt ceiling until after November’s mid-term elections. With last-minute help from Republican leaders to overcome a blocking effort, the Senate passed the legislation 55-43, marking a dramatic victory for President Barack Obama, who had demanded a debt ceiling hike with no political riders or other legislation attached.

    The measure, which cleared the House of Representatives Tuesday, now goes to the White House for Obama’s signature. An uncomplicated extension of borrowing authority without other conditions would mark a shift away from recent confrontations that brought the world’s largest economy to the brink of default, culminating in the US government being shuttered for 16 days in October. It could also avoid the turmoil that rocked US and international markets during the previous debt limit fights.

    But the bill was nearly torpedoed in a tense procedural vote minutes earlier, when the Senate’s Republican leaders struggled to help muster the 60 votes necessary to overcome a blocking tactic known as a filibuster from fiscal conservatives within their ranks. By the end of an unusually long vote that lasted a full hour, 12 Republicans joined all Democrats to advance the bill. However, no Republicans backed its final passage, which required a simple majority in the 100-seat chamber.

    “What needed to get done, got done,” said Senator Bob Corker, one of the dozen Republicans who helped move the bill forward. “At the end of the day there was no stated outcome by any way other than a clean debt ceiling.” US debt stands at $17.3 trillion, and the Treasury estimates it would exhaust borrowing capacity on February 27 without new authority. With Congress fleeing Washington early to avoid a looming snow storm, and a recess scheduled for next week, lawmakers had precious few legislative days to reach a solution before the deadline. Corker said he and other Republicans had to swallow the bitter pill of allowing a debt ceiling bill to move ahead without any federal spending cuts attached.

    In recent years, Republicans led by House Speaker John Boehner have sought to link debt ceiling hikes to measures that slashed spending. But with House conservatives recoiling from various sweeteners floated by Boehner in recent weeks, and party leadership loathe to be blamed for another fiscal crisis, the speaker capitulated Tuesday and moved to raise the debt ceiling with no spending cuts attached. Several Senate Republicans knew they would need to allow the bill’s passage or risk potential fiscal chaos. “We can put the country through two weeks of turmoil, or we can get this vote behind us,” Corker said.

    The finding that height matters more to women supports the social system of patriarchy, in which males are the primary authority figures. “The masculine ability to offer physical protection is clearly connected to the gender stereotype of men as protectors. And in a society that encourages men to be dominant and women to be submissive, having the image of tall men hovering over short women reinforces this value,” Yancey added.

    1. Make more efficient use of your space, from simple drawer inserts to clever pullout shelving units, to fullon custom cabinetry that enables storing.
    2. Store spice containers with labels facing out, and group by type or organise alphabetically. Discard and replace spices that no longer have much of a scent; if there’s no smell, there’s no flavour.
    3. If your kitchen doesn’t have enough counter space, add a rolling cart that provides extra room to organise.
    4. Remove any cookbooks or magazines you don’t use regularly. For instance, store holiday cookbooks outside the kitchen.
    5. Keep dishes either close to the dishwasher so they’re easy to put away – or close to the table, so it’s a snap to set.
    6. Consider different countertop heights. If you’re short, you might want to lower some countertops below the 36-inch standard — a good rule of thumb is countertops should be 3 inches below your elbow.
    7. Keep extra trash bags in the bottom of your trash can so that you always have a new bag handy — and the unused bags don’t take up room in your cabinets.
    8. Even a kitchen with lots of storage space can get overrun with clutter. Get rid of duplicates, and don’t be tempted to fill every shelf and drawer to capacity.
    9. Choose drawers instead of cupboards for heavy, large items such as pots; they slide out and make it easier to find what you’re reaching for.

When cleaning the interior/exterior surfaces of your kitchen furniture, remember to never use scouring agents, furniture polish, abrasive cleaning agents, or artificial resin thinners, acetone or similar cleaners or micro-fibre cloths in order to prevent damage. 11. Wood is a natural material. Its grain and colour make every kitchen unique. To clean them, simply wipe them in the direction of the wood grain using a slightly damp cloth to remove dirt particles from the pores.

You could have Nocturnal Sleep-Related Eating Disorder (NS-RED) Nocturnal Sleep-Related Eating Disorder (NS-RED) is a mild disorder where people tend to eat in their sleep. Although not as common as sleepwalking, it is often known to occur during sleepwalking. While many may just shrug this situation off or shy away from taking consultation, it is a lifestyle-related disorder that requires help occasionally. There are a number of reasons for the same.

    Says Taryn Samuel, dietician and fitness expert, “People who diet rigorously during the day may find themselves sneaking towards the fridge in their sleep. Alcoholism or nicotine addiction are also factors, extreme stress can also infuse the desire to binge in one’s sleep.” The eating mostly occurs during delta sleep, which is basically deep sleep. Most sleep disorders are known to occur during this stage of sleep, when the mind is known to have very minimal control over the body. Interestingly, this is also the stage of sleep where sleepwalking and sleep talking is most likely to occur.

    Since sleep eaters are known to often wake up during the night, this could severely affect their day functioning because of lack of proper sleep. If the syndrome is unheard of to you, this is what Renita D’Silva, a victim of the same has to say, “NSRED can be quite annoying in terms of what you end up eating in your sleep. It greatly interferes with your nutrition pattern. I remember instances of waking up with peanut butter smeared across my face or even uncooked pasta! There is virtually zero control over your eating.”

    Is there any treatment available for the same?
    Says obesity consultant Dr Seema Paranjpe, “Its quite a mysterious condition. An extensive sleep evaluation is the first step in order to diagnose the basic problem. Sleep eating often gets induced during times of stress, learn to manage your stress to take control of your eating habits.” Experts also stress that weight gain and other dietary issues might be related to sleep eating.

    Hence, it becomes crucial to eat a balanced diet and allow yourself a few treats here and there. If you suspect you have this disorder, there are ways you can prevent it. Seek help before it gets any worse. Or start putting a lock on your fridge.

    Joss Christensen was the last men’s slopestyle skier selected for the U.S. Olympic team, and even after winning the final qualifying event in Park City last month, his inclusion on the team was a controversial one as he was selected over several worthy American skiers. Yet all Christensen did when he arrived in Sochi was become the most dominant skier from the time practices began last week through his victory lap second run in Thursday’s finals of the inaugural ski slopestyle competition.

    Christensen posted three of the top four scores of the day to lead an American sweep of the medals. Christensen, a 22-year-old from Park City, scored 95.80 to win gold. Teammates Gus Kenworthy (93.6) and Nick Goepper (92.4) took silver and bronze respectively at Rosa Khutor Extreme Park. It was the first American sweep at a Winter Games since the U.S. won three medals in men’s snowboard halfpipe at the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City. Christensen, a discretionary pick on the U.S. team, posted the highest score on his first run in finals, landing a switch triple 1440 jump, a trick he only learned and then decided to insert into his run two days ago during practice.

    “I knew once I learned it I had to put it in my run if I wanted a chance to make it on the podium,” Christensen said. Christensen’s dominant day culminates what has been a difficult season for the skier, whose father, J.D., died in August. Christensen learned of his father’s death after landing in New Zealand, where he was supposed to start his season. “I hope I made my father proud,” Christensen said. “He had been supporting me since day one, through all the injuries I had, which I know scare parents a lot. He always supported me and never said stop.

    I wish he was here, but I hope he’s looking down and smiling.” Christensen was overshadowed in the leadup to the Olympics by teammates Goepper and Kenworthy, each of whom landed that elusive triple jump at the X Games in Aspen last month. But within the U.S. team once here in Sochi, the skiers and coaches considered Christensen to be the favorite, based on the way he was performing in practice. After watching Christensen’s two qualifying runs Thursday morning, teammate Bobby Brown predicted that Christensen would be “unbeatable” in the final. Brown was right, as Christensen was basically competing to top his own previous high score in each progressive round, even as Kenworthy and Goepper each landed the triple corks in their medal-winning runs.

    What made Christensen stand apart was the creativity on the upper rail section of the course, a variety of grabs during his jumps and spins to go along with the fancy new triple – a jump in which he takes off backwards, flips three times while completing four full rotations. “He’s pretty much landed it every time, and he’s got really good rotation and style,” U.S. freeskiing coach Skogen Sprang said. “I think he was kind of the rider’s favorite today, just based on the practices.” Skiers shed layers of clothing throughout the day as temperatures on the mountain were close to 50 degrees.

    Many said the course was ideal despite the warm weather, with the softer snow easing falls but not hampering speed. American skiers opted for long hoodies instead of parkas, and by the finals, Brown had even ditched that, opting to compete in just a T-shirt – the first time he’s done that in a major competition. Many of the other American skiers and snowboarders crowded the finish area to watch Team USA’s first sweep of this Games, including snowboarding slopestyle gold medalist Jamie Anderson and ski halfpipe competitors Aaron Blunck and Torrin Yater- Wallace, as well as a surprisingly pro- American crowd.

    “I mean it’s been incredible to showcase our sport to the world,” Kenworthy said. “We have an awesome course, beautiful weather and it was one of the best slopestyle competitions we’ve ever had. I really couldn’t be prouder.” Besides the three medalists, Brown also made the final and finished ninth. That Christensen, whom Sprang admitted was right on the bubble to make the team until just a few weeks ago, wound up winning was validation not just for the decision to bring him, but also an emphatic statement for the health of the freeski program. “I mean, it’s freaking amazing. I’m still kind of in shock.

    You don’t really talk about that before. The chance was there, but you don’t really expect it to happen. You can’t expect it to happen,” Sprang said. “I knew they all had a chance to medal, whether it was one of them, or two of them, or three of them, you just do what you can to get them all ready. They did their jobs, stomped their runs, and crushed it. I’m stoked for all of them.” Slopestyle skiing and snowboarding made their Winter Games debut here. American Devin Logan won silver in the women’s event Tuesday. The U.S. also won the gold medals in the snowboard slopestyle events.

    NEW YORK (TIP): The 109th Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, unveiled his administration’s first city budget on Wednesday, February 12th.

    The $73.7B budget includes no broad base spending cuts, yet more money for closed hospitals and a $530M in new revenue from the proposed tax hike plan to fund universal pre-k. The mayor also projected a $1.1B deficit in FY 2016, while the city still enjoys a surplus.

    The primary focus of the mayor’s plan includes universal, full-day pre-kindergarten, which includes $530 million from taxing the rich. De Blasio also outlined a series of stark fiscal challenges presented by impending contract negotiations with all 150 municipal unions. The city employees have all been working on expired contracts. Labor leaders have asked for retroactive raises which could cost more than $7 billion.

    The mayor has noted that the city has never had all its labor contracts open at once. “I think the previous administration was given an artificially high level of credit for management,” the mayor said. “The way they budgeted was not appropriate. You cannot ignore open labor contracts for years on end.

    In the final years of the mayor’s term there was a particular interest in burnishing the mayor’s legacy,” de Blasio said. The mayor’s budget also calls for inspector general for the NYPD, and enforcement of the paid sick leave act. He has also set goals for investing more money in public housing repairs and maintenance and intends to expand services for homeless youths and cap rent contributions for HIV and AIDS clients.

    The de Blasio administration’s FY 2015 preliminary budget is being seen as a fiscally-responsible document that begins to put New York City’s financial house back in order. Here are some important features of the budget. The Structural Deficit: The budget for the current year, FY 2014, remains balanced by relying on $1 billion from the prior year. The FY 2015 plan right now relies on $1.8 billion of resources from the prior year for balance.

    The city is already facing a deficit of $1.1 billion for FY 2016. Maintaining the Retiree Health Benefits Trust Fund: The Retiree Health Benefits Trust Fund pays for the cost of retiree health benefits for city workers, including health insurance, welfare funds, and Medicare Part B reimbursements.

    The previous plan drained $1 billion from the Trust; the de Blasio preliminary budget restores that funding to the Trust for this long-term obligation. Ensuring DSNY has the Resources it Needs: An unusually heavy snow season this year means reorganizing the budget so the sanitation department has all the resources it needs to ensure the city’s streets remain clear and safe throughout the winter.

    The previous plan budgeted $57 million for the sanitation department to respond to snow and winter storms, and the de Blasio administration has increased that allocation by $35 million – covering costs to date, as well as expected costs for the rest of the season. Increasing School Aid from the State: New York State has not kept up with its obligations to fund New York City schools.

    In FY 2015, there will be a $2.7 billion gap between the current level of state aid and the funding levels agreed-upon following the Campaign for Fiscal Equity lawsuit. In this preliminary budget, the de Blasio administration is asking the state for an additional $500 million to fund improvements to New York City public schools. The resources will help reduce class size and provide additional teacher supports in early grades; strengthen elementary Common Core academic intervention; and increase funding equity across schools, so students are treated more fairly.

    DETROIT (TIP) — Police say a 5-year-old girl who was taken from a Detroit school by a parent who didn’t have legal custody has been found safe in Texas. Police say the girl and her 37-year-old mother were found Thursday night in Dickens, Texas, during a traffic stop. The mother was detained without incident. The girl is being cared for by child protective services workers until family can travel to Texas to pick her up. She’s reported in good health. The girl was missing since being picked up from school earlier this week in Detroit. Police at the time said it was believed the mother was heading out of state.

    SRINAGAR (TIP): Jammu & Kashmir minister of state for health department Shabir Khan has been charged for sexually assaulting a lady doctor inside the civil secretariat in Srinagar.

    The alleged assault took place on January 27. The police registered a sexual assault case against Khan after the survivor filed a complaint on Thursday. A top Kashmiri police officer on anonymity said that the minister was charged for sexual assault and he might face arrest after investigations.

    According to the complainant, she was called by Khan to civil secretariat for some query when he was deputed to stay there for seven days as per roster issued by the chief minister Omar Abdullah soon after the government shifted to Jammu for the winter. Every minister is supposed to stay for seven days in the civil secretariat during winter.

    The survivor said made her to wait inside his retiring room and after few minutes Khan entered the cabin inside his office and made objectionable remarks to her before trying sexually assault her. The survivor is the wife of a prominent separatist leader.
