1857  On the day of 1857, Mangal Pandey, a soldier of the Barrackpore Regiment of British India, was hanged for the crime of breaching military discipline and murder.

1894  Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the author of India’s national song “Vande Mataram”, died in 1894.

1929  On this day in 1929, revolutionary Bhagat Singh and Batukeshwar Dutt threw bombs at the Central Legislative Assembly at Delhi.

1950  After the 1950 India-Pakistan partition, on this day both countries had entered into an agreement with a view to securing the rights of the minorities living in their respective countries and ending the possibilities of war between the two countries in future.

1831  The famous social reformer Raja Ram Mohan Roy arrived in England in 1831.
