Long Island, New York | April 27, 2025 — In a powerful expression of solidarity and compassion, the Indo-American community gathered at Eisenhower Park for a solemn candlelight vigil honoring the victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir. Organized by Indo American Community Voice.Org, in collaboration with over 40 prominent cultural, spiritual, and civic organizations, the vigil served as a moving tribute to the innocent lives lost and a call for global peace.

The program began with a solemn prayer by Narinder Kapoor and an ardas led by Bhai Bhupinder Singh Ji, Head Granthi of Gurdwara Shaheedan, followed by heartfelt renditions of the American and Indian national anthems by Nipun Marwaha. Dr. Bobby Kalotee Chairman of Human Rights Commission – Nassau County, along with Bina Sabapathy, Founder President of Indo American Community Voice, welcomed the crowd with a message of peace and unity.

Prominent community leaders such as Kamlesh Mehta, Mukesh Modi, Mohan Wanchoo, Dr. Urmila Shivaram, Indu Jaiswal, Prof. Indrajit Saluja, Sgt. Thomas, and Koshy Thomas, among many others, offered prayers and reflections, emphasizing the need for peace, compassion, and vigilance against violence.

Venus Bhasin, representing NY State Senator Steven Rhoads, coordinated along with Onkar Singh hospitality efforts including hot Tea sponsored by Punjabi Dhaba. A soulful musical tribute by Anil Dua echoed messages of peace and healing.
The highlight of the evening was the deeply moving candlelight vigil, joined by members of Glen Cove, Hicksville, and Plainview Gurudwaras, as well as representatives from surrounding temples. Thousands gathered in silent prayer, united in grief and hope, offering strength to the victims’ families and reaffirming the community’s stand against terrorism.
The Indian Panorama Publisher – Editor Prof. Indrajit Saluja warned Pakistan to desist from the foolish acts of sending into the Indian territory terrorists to kill innocent people or risk annihilation.
The program concluded with peaceful prayers led by Acharya Shri Madan Jha and Swami Brajeshwaeanand Ji, leaving the audience with a message of spiritual strength and resolve.

March 3, 2024 GLEN COVE, NY (TIP): Celebrating the theme of ‘Inspire Inclusion’, with the aim of Inspiring others to understand and value women’s inclusion to forge a better world, Indian American Forum honored several dignified and accomplished women of substance at their 13th Annual Women’s Achievements Awards Gala this past weekend at the Metropolitan Caterers in Long Island.
Under the leadership of Chairperson Indu Jaiswal and Gala Chair Shammi Singh, known for their strong commitment and dedication to the community cause, along with the entire team of IAF, were the organizing force behind the GALA, celebrating the success of the outstanding achievements by these distinguished personalities in the presence of many accomplished guests and community leaders. The honorees were presented special citations from The Nassau County Hon. Bruce A. Blakeman’s office, Certificates of Recognition from The Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer S Desena, and Town Clerk Hon. Ragini Srivastava’s office, Town of Hempstead Hon. Donald X. • Dr. Mala Sachdeva – Professor of Medicine at Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell and academic nephrologists, an educator, and part of the full-time faculty at the Division of Kidney Diseases and Hypertension in Great Neck, New York, North well Health System. Currently she has been elected as President Elect in 2024 and then will serve as President (2025-2026) for Women In Nephrology Organization, a national organization advocating and mentoring wo men and men in developing exciting careers in the field of renal disease.
• Neela Mukherjee Lockel – President and Chief Executive Officer at EAC Network. She has served as the Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross on Long Island since 2016, where she oversaw Red Cross activities across Nassau County and Suffolk Counties, and sat on the Regional Leadership Team of Greater New York. She facilitated the Regional Board Diversity Committee, was a member of the Advanced Public Affairs Training Team and the American Red Cross LEAD, an internal leadership development program. She has deployed to Red Cross disaster responses for Hurricanes Matthew (2016) and Florence (2018) and the California Wildfires (2017), and sat as the Interim Regional CEO for the Maine Region, to lead the team through a merger into the Northern New England Region.
• Dr. Mamta Shaha – President of North Shore Rotary Club. She is a Board-Certified Pediatrician and an Assistant Professor of pediatrics at New York University. She is also a Board-certified Ophthalmologist from Bombay University. She is actively involved with JAINA (Federation of Jain Association in North America) and has served as JAINA Northeast Vice president for two years and served as a director of the Jain Center of America NY for 4 years. She currently chairs two committees in JAINA: As a Chairperson of the JAINA Media Committee, she produced and directed the weekly Jain TV show “Mangalam” for 10 years.

Mr. and Mrs. Premi took much pride in their incomparable ability to help the local community. They helped with anyone needing assistance. Mrs. Premi never had an issue with welcoming anyone into her home, and she would single-handedly cook meals for large groups of people at the drop of a hat. Many a times they housed people who had nowhere to go. Mrs. Premi helped new immigrants with Housing, providing shelter and guiding them in his new environment for several years. Their House was known as Mini Punjab.
Starting with the beautiful décor and warm welcome with sumptuous appetizers, the evening started with American and Indian National Anthem followed by a rocking welcome by hosts Roopam Maini and Chanbir Kaur. Sunita Sadhnani rocked audience with her melodious singing. DJ Parminder rocked the dance floor.
Several distinguished political and community leaders, IAF Board of Trustees, Members, Volunteers, supporters and audience graced the occasion applauding the distinguished accomplishments of women honorees. Several Board of Trustees and community leader in presence included Dr Urmilesh Arya, Dr Bhupendra Patel, Beena Kothari, Flora Parekh – President of Gift of Life USA, Dr. Pallavi Manvar Singh, Dr. Sunil Mehra (AAPI), Pradip Tandon (President IALI), Dr. Jagdish Gupta President (AIA), Vijay Goswamy, Anju Sharma, Dr. Purnaprasad, Dr. Prachi Dua and many other organization leaders. Hundreds of devotees gathered to celebrate and show solidarity to Ram Mandir consecration in Ayodhya.
LONG ISLAND, NY (TIP): The windy, freezing Sunday with sub-zero temperatures afternoon saw enthusiastic Indian Americans show their support for the Ram Lalla consecration in Ayodhya, thousands of miles away. A car rally was organized in Hicksville in Long Island, New York. Hicksville is a hamlet within the Town of Oyster Bay in Nassau County, on Long Island, in New York, with large Indian population.
The rally started from Patel Brothers in Hicksville. 150 cars participated in this rally, which halted midway at a Gurudwara in Hicksville. Dr Raj Bhayani said, “The Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Buddha communities have all united to celebrate this historic moment.”
The float had DJ which played Bhajan songs devoted to Rama.

Everyone was wearing the saffron scarf with Hanuman and Rama pictures in it.
And cold conditions could not dampen the enthusiasm and the celebratory mood.
In addition to cars, floats and LED truck there were children dressed as Ramayana characters Rama, Sita , Laxman, and Hanuman which really brought the experience and excitement to the rally.
The organizers for the rally were Dr Raj Bhayani. Mukesh Modi and Dr Dipak Nandi, Mohan Wanchoo, Naveen Shah, Chintu Patel, Gary Sikka and Dr Neeta Jain. Each car was adorned with saffron-colored flags. The huge lineup of cars finally reached the beautiful Asa Mai temple in Hicksville. LED Truck displayed Ramayana and float carried the banners celebrating Ram Mandir.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY (TIP): “This is Modi Era. Modi means performance”, said Mr Jagdish Sewhani, President of The American India Public Affairs Committee in New York. People have voted for good governance and performance . The credit for this victory goes to our “yashasvi” Prime Minister Narendra Modiji. The Strategy developed by his team Home Minister Amit Shahji and Party President J P Naddaji decimated the opposition.
The results are a reflection of mood of the country.
Mr Sewhani further said that people of three states have shown full confidence in BJP, its governance and its leadership, under the guidance of visionary Prime Minister Modi ji.
People Voted for Modi Guarantee. It Shows they Trust Prime Minister Modi under whose Leadership Bharat is Growing Economically, Culturally, Socially and Strategically. OYSTER BAY, NY (TIP): Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino hosted a celebration of the 77th Independence Day of India at Town headquarters on August 15. Mr. Saladino hoisted the Indian National flag and congratulated the Indian American community on the occasion. Members of the Indian American community participated.
NEW YORK (TIP): On the occasion of 9th International Yoga Day 2023, GOPIO-Manhattan in cooperation with the Consulate General of India in New York and Emmy-nominated filmmaker & Happy Life Yoga speaker Tirlok Malik hosted a highly interactive and informative Yoga Zoom event on June 25th featuring experts and speakers from various walks of life. Shri Randhir Jaiswal, Consul General of India in New York sent his best wishes to GOPIO and Malik for celebrating the 9th International Yoga Day 2023. The chief guest Consul Vipul Dev, who looks after Press, Information and Culture at the Indian Consulate, New York (USA) was present on the occasion. GOPIO-Manhattan Secretary Bhavya Gupta was the MC for the event which was hosted in the presence of Dr. Thomas Abraham, Chairman of GOPIO International and GOPIO President Lal Motwani as well as distinguished members of GOPIO International and its chapter officials from the Northeast of USA and many viewers from all over the world. The event was also supported by The Indian Panorama and Indian American Forum.
Ms. Bhavya Gupta started the event welcoming all and shared the updates from the 9th International Yoga Day held at the United Nations on June 21st under the presence of Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. GOPIO team members along with citizens across 135 nationalities participated in the Yoga event, which earned the Yoga Day Event an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records for the Most Nationalities in a Yoga Session.
The event was energetic, knowledgeable, inspiring, and celebratory in nature. While emphasizing upon the growing importance of Yoga in today’s times, Malik explained his vision behind Happy Life Yoga and its underlying philosophy, “A way of living inspired by the wisdom of Ayurveda, Yoga and Indian Philosophy, Happy Life Yoga is beneficial for one and all. The pandemic has made the world realize that it is of paramount importance to have a good health, physically and emotionally, and the Happy Life Yoga platform can show how to achieve it.”
GOPIO Chairman Dr. Abraham in his welcome remarks said, “Yoga has now become an international brand after the UN declaration in 2014 and Yoga Day is now celebrated all over the world.” Dr. Abraham also complimented the Indian Consulate for continuing to support Yoga celebrations by the community groups in the Northeast of the US. Dr. Abraham also complimented Consul General Jaiswal for hoisting the largest number of programs at the New York Consulate every month compared to other MEA missions around the world.
Indian Consul Vipul Dev said, “Yoga has become very popular in our life and personally I feel great that something like Yoga from my country has been adopted and owned by the rest of world.” He also added that Yoga brought positivity in his life. He also mentioned that the Indian Consulate in New York has been celebrating Yoga Day with community groups starting in the first week of June, including one at the Niagara Falls.
While emphasizing upon the growing importance of Yoga in today’s times, Malik explained his vision behind Happy Life Yoga and its underlying philosophy, “A way of living inspired by the wisdom of Ayurveda, Yoga and Indian Philosophy, Happy Life Yoga is beneficial for one and all. The pandemic has made the world realize that it is of paramount importance to have good health, physically and emotionally, and the Happy Life Yoga platform can show how to achieve it.” One of the major highlights of the Happy Life Yoga event was the knowledge session moderated by Malik who is known for his ability to engage with his audience using the right mix of banter and substance. It is essentially an educational platform that offers a unique holistic approach to health and happiness using tools from Ayurveda, Indian Philosophy, and Yoga to help better manage modern-day challenges such as work, finances, relationships, family and other social pressures. It was launched in June 2019 in New York. Malik’s portfolio of work has won many awards and has been acclaimed in the media and people worldwide. Through his work he intends to inspire others to live happier and healthier lives and the journey continues.

During the program, GOPIO International President Lal Motwani, who also serves as honorary chair of GOPIO-New York chapter, spoke on Yoga and cited that one has to make others happy to be happy yourself. GOPIO-Manhattan Chapter President Shivender Sofat invited the community to participate in other chapter activities including welcoming new students from India for a Welcome Dinner event in late September. He further added on the various services from the chapter including community feeding on the last Monday of every month and invited members of the community to sponsor this effort. GOPIO-Manhattan Chapter Board Member Siddharth Jain, who managed the Zoom session gave the vote of thanks.

GOPIO-Manhattan, in accordance with its mission to serve the larger society and those in need, has taken several initiatives in the recent past. A Community Feeding is organized by the Chapter providing vegan or vegetarian lunch for the homeless and needy at Tomkins Square Park in Manhattan on the last Monday of every month. At the gala, attended by over 300 guests, five distinguished women with the highest caliber were honored for their achievements. Chairperson Indu Jaiswal and Gala Chair Shammi Singh, both known for their strong commitment and dedication to the community cause, along with the entire team of IAF, were the organizing force behind the GALA.

The honorees included Sandhya Bhatia, Branch Manager, Vice president of Flushing Bank , Nayana Brahmbhatt – a BAPS Volunteer, Vandana Jauhar, a leading musical artist and singer, Dr. Parul Dua Makkar, the owner of PDM Family Dental in Long Island, and Dr. Purvi Parikh, an allergist and immunologist at Allergy and Asthma Associates of Murray Hill. Young Achiever Ria Parashar is a volunteer at Children’s Hope and helps the Special Needs Community. Bare Foot Empress follows the remarkable journey of Karthyayani Amma, who having never access to education as a girl finally gets to join a first-grade class at the age of 96 years. Written and directed by Michelin Star Chef Vikas Khanna it is produced by Oscar nominated Doug Roland. Video clips were provided by well-known TV anchor Ms. Renee Mehrra.

HICKSVILLE, NY (TIP): The claims made in the official press release issued by the Media Coordinator for IDP USA are sharply in contrast with the facts when it comes to the poor response to the much-touted Independence Day parade in Hicksville. What surprised everybody was that a combination of good weather, shorter route of the parade, and the presence of attractive celebrity marshals on whom, it is said, a large slice of public money was spent, people did not get enthused. The question that many are asking is if the parade was worth the amount of public money spent. Most said it was a foolish waste of public money and blame the organizers who instead of bringing people together, played politics and alienated people. The IDP USA Parade boiled down to an Insult India Parade.
There normally is a large group of elected representatives at the parade. Well, there were a couple of them but surely it was clearly a huge decline in numbers. Obviously, the organizers failed to get them to the parade. The Indian Panorama has learnt that a particular elected official from Suffolk County was not even given room in the front row on the stage where the IDP USA organizers were struggling to have a foothold . Is this the Indian way of welcoming our guests? Forget about the Indian way if some Indians have got Americanized, it surely is not the American way to throw protocol to the winds. I am reminded of , probably 2010when the then Consul General Prabhu Dayal and Mr. Hardeep Singh Puri, then Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations and now a cabinet minister in Modi government , were ignored at the FIA India Day Parade and I had made an issue of it. They represented India, and to ignore them amounted to an insult to India, and that, too at the India Day Parade. The organizers clearly insulted our American friend in ignoring him They need to apologize to the man, and to all others who were not given due respect and recognition. Their misdeed will visit on the future leadership of the IDP USA.
A gentleman who had paid $300.00 for a booth told The Indian Panorama that he sat in the booth from 11 AM to 6 PM with any hardly any footfall. He estimated the gathering at about 200, most of whom were parents of children who were performing in the cultural program. Besides, there were IDP USA members and, very few people who have always been seen participating enthusiastically in the parade.
A lady who did not want to be identified and had paid $300 .00 for a booth told The Indian Panorama that she could not make even a penny, with no visitors around. She said she would never ever again lease a booth in the so-called India Day Parade. In a lighter vein, another said, it was not an “India Day Parade”, it was a show by a few to project themselves as community leaders. The Indian Panorama has learnt how the organizers were dividing the well-knit Indian American community on Long Island was known even to the Consul General of India who was briefed on the situation by one of the founders of the India Day Parade. The Deputy Consul General, Mr. Varun Jeph is learnt to have expressed a shock that not many, and particularly not almost any, from a particular community who normally are present in sizeable numbers, were present.
Who is responsible for the insult to the India Day Parade which never witnessed such a poor response since 2012 when the IDP USA parade was started with the trio of Bobby Kumar Kalotee, Kamlesh Mehta and Harinder Singh as founders. Harinder Singh became ineligible to be a part of the IDPUSA after his conviction in a criminal case. It is reported that Kamlesh Mehta having felt slighted resigned from membership of the IDP USA. And, now Bobby Kumar Kalotee is the lone Founder controlling the reins of power.
Well, the India Day Parade which was hardly any parade is a thing of the past now. However, the bitter memories it has left will trouble the Indian American community here for a long time. The wound inflicted by the organizers who played politics and divided the community will fester for a long time. They will surely not be welcome to lead in future because they have proved beyond an iota of doubt that they are absolutely incapable of leading. Once bitten, twice shy. Let me get back to the IDP USA press release which I am publishing as received.
“11th India Day Parade celebrated India @ 75 in Hicksville
Hicksville, NY: The landmark 75th anniversary of India’s Independence (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) was celebrated here at the 11th India Day Parade of Long Island with enthusiastic participation by the community. Large crowds had assembled at the Hicksville Community Center, the starting point of the parade organized by IDP USA under President Vimal Goyal with Mukesh Modi as Vice Chairperson. Dignitaries and celebrities joined the parade that featured several floats and marching groups. Patriotic songs along with slogans of ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ and ‘Jai Hind’ rang in the air, adding to the patriotic fervor of the tricolor-waving people despite it being a hot afternoon. At the culmination point near the Hicksville post office, the entertainment stage and 40 booths welcomed India lovers.
India’s Deputy Consul General in New York, Dr Varun Jeph, as Grand Marshal, exhorted people to display tricolor in their homes. Film and sports star Prachi Tehlan, the Celebrity Grand Marshal, said she was impressed by the love of India by people here which surpassed that at home. Well known playback singer Shibani Kashyap, Hollywood / Bollywood actor Prashantt Guptha, who grew up in New York, as well as Naveen Shah of Navika Capital Group were Guests of Honor. Elected officials who spoke included Supervisor of Town of North Hempstead Jennifer DeSena, New York State Senators Kevin Thomas and Anna Kaplan, and Nassau County legislator Rose Walker. Proclamations and citations from Nassau County and Town of Oyster Bay were presented by their representatives. IDP Founder Bobby Kalotee and Chairperson Indu Jaiswal welcomed and thanked the dignitaries and celebs for their presence. IDP Vice Chair Mukesh Modi emceed the proceedings.
President Goyal explaining the IDP themes of the year—‘Each One Plant One’ and ‘Unity in Diversity’– said that it was for the first time that banners of all 28 Indian states were displayed at the parade.
Shibani Kashyap belted out patriotic songs and her own hit numbers making people dance to her tunes. Many dance groups, most of them coached by Shilpa Mithaiwala, also performed.
Announcement of winners of raffle prizes, including a return ticket to India, concluded the program. A day before the parade the 3 celebs Prachi, Prashantt and Shibani were welcomed at a meet and greet.

NEW YORK (TIP): On the occasion of International Yoga Day 2022, GOPIO Northeast chapters in cooperation with the Indian Consulate in New York and Emmy-nominated filmmaker and Happy Life Yoga speaker Tirlok Malik hosted a highly interactive and informative Yoga Zoom event on June 23rd featuring experts and speakers from various walks of life. Mr. Randhir Jaiswal, Consul General of India in New York sent his best wishes to GOPIO and Malik for celebrating the International Yoga Day 2022. The chief guest Indian Consul Vipul Dev, who looks after Political, Press, Information and Culture at the Indian Consulate, New York (USA) and special guest Congressman Subramanian Raja Krishnamoorthi, an Indian-born American businessman who has been serving as the U.S. representative for Illinois’s 8th congressional district since 2017, were present on the occasion. GOPIO-Manhattan Secretary Bhavya Gupta was the MC for the event which was hosted in the presence of Dr. Thomas Abraham, Chairman of GOPIO International as well as distinguished members of GOPIO International and its chapter officials from the Northeast of USA and many viewers from all over the world. The event was also supported by The Indian Panorama, Indian American Forum, GOPIO Chapters (New York, Central New York, Central Jersey, Edison and Connecticut).
The event was energetic, knowledgeable, inspiring, and celebratory in nature. While emphasizing upon the growing importance of Yoga in today’s times, Malik explained his vision behind Happy Life Yoga and its underlying philosophy, “A way of living inspired by the wisdom of Ayurveda, Yoga and Indian Philosophy, Happy Life Yoga is beneficial for one and all. The pandemic has made the world realize that it is of paramount importance to have a good health, physically and emotionally, and the Happy Life Yoga platform can show how to achieve it.”
GOPIO Chairman Dr. Abraham in his welcome remarks said, “Yoga has now become an international brand after the UN declaration in 2014 and Yoga Day is now celebrated all over the world.” Dr. Abraham also complimented the Indian Consulate for continuing to hold the celebration at the Times Square in New York City.
Indian Consul Vipul Dev said, “Yoga has become very popular in our life and personally I feel great that something like Yoga from my country has been adopted and owned by the rest of world.” He also added that Yoga brought positivity in his life. He also mentioned that the Indian Consulate in New York has been celebrating Yoga Day with community groups starting in the first week of June, including one at the Niagara Falls.
In his brief remarks, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi congratulated GOPIO and Tirlok Malik for propagating the power of Yoga globally through the Happy Life Yoga event. “Today, the International Yoga Day has evolved into in major annual event that’s celebrated all across the globe. The key is to celebrate Yoga as a health practice that is truly universal. I would like to congratulate GOPIO and Mr. Malik for playing an active role in propagating the power of Yoga.”
One of the major highlights of the Happy Life Yoga event was the knowledge sessions moderated by Malik who is known for his ability to engage with his audience using the right mix of banter and substance.

The event ended with a thunderous applause even as Malik promised to bring more Happy Life Yoga events in the near future. Happy Life Yoga is the creation of Tirlok Malik. It is essentially an educational platform that offers a unique holistic approach to health and happiness using tools from Ayurveda, Indian Philosophy, and Yoga to help better manage modern-day challenges such as work, finances, relationships, family and other social pressures. It was launched in June 2019 in New York. Malik’s portfolio of work has won many awards and has been acclaimed in media and people worldwide. Through his work he intends to inspire others to live happier and healthier lives and the journey continues.
During the program, GOPIO Foundation Executive Trustee Lal Motwani, who also serves as honorary chair of GOPIO-New York chapter spoke on the new initiative from the chapter on launching India Collection of Books at the Queens Public Library on August 13th when the library will also honor India for its 75th Independence. GOPIO-Manhattan Chapter Board Member Siddharth Jain spoke on the various services from the chapter including community feeding on the last Monday of every month and invited members of the community to sponsor this effort. GOPIO-Manhattan Chapter President Shivender Sofat invited the community to participate in other chapter activities including welcoming new students from India for a Welcome Dinner event in late September. GOPIO-New York President Beena Kothari, who managed the Zoom session gave the vote of thanks. Performers enthrall, guests thrilled
HICKSVILLE , NY (TIP): Arya Samaj of Long Island celebrated Vaisakhi- Punjab’s harvest festival on April 30 at Hicksville Middle School. Though the Samaj has been celebrating Vaisakhi since 2007 it is for the first time that the festival was celebrated on a large scale , Secretary of Arya Samaj of Long Island Mr. Veer Mukhi said. “The intention is to spread India’s rich culture and traditions”, he added. Incidentally, the Arya Samaj of Long Island was founded in 2006. The school auditorium with a seating capacity of around 300 was full, and the audience was treated to a delightful music and dance variety program.
The master of ceremonies Gita Setia gave a wonderful recitation of the Vedic Invocation which was followed by national anthems of America and India. Gita, who is a trained vocalist, cast a magic spell with a Punjabi song.
Vivarta Arts Dance group gave graceful dance performances.
Prachi Makkar and Surya Makkar- the sister-brother duo -made many in the audience come forward and dance to their Punjabi boliyan. Both are extremely accomplished. While Prachi sings with equal ease the thrilling boliyan and tappe- the two forms of Punjabi folk singing, and mata ki bheta, Surya plays with equal mastery six different musical instruments.
The audience was literally excited to watch a thrilling performance of Gatka- the Sikh martial art. The vigor of the performers was appreciable. The Akal Gatka Group founded by Sardar Daler Singh and ably supported by his brother Sardar Gurmej Singh is one of the best known Gatka groups in America.
Then came Bhangra, the king of folk dances which has become a rage internationally. The fleet footed dancers of Soormay group sent waves of delight with their graceful motions. Bhangra is a folk dance of Punjab which is a must on every festive occasion.
Earlier, Prof. Indrajit S Saluja, Chief Editor, The Indian Panorama, who was the keynote speaker and the chief guest was honored by the Arya Samaj of Long Island. Dr. Urmilesh Arya presented him a bouquet and Dr. Yashpal Arya, Chairman of ASLI honored him with a shawl and a plaque.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Saluja paid rich tributes to Swami Dayanand Saraswati who founded the Arya Samaj on April 10th in 1875. He congratulated the organizers for celebrating Vaisakhi in the month of the founding of the Arya Samaj.
Prof. Saluja said it was natural for human beings to express their joy on occasions which brought them happiness. Quoting from the Sikh Scripture, Shri Guru Granth Sahib which says “Nachan Kuddan man ka chao” which means it is human desire to sing and dance, he said Vaisakhi is celebrated in this spirit of joy when the farmers have harvested their crops and are prosperous. He added that the harvest festival is celebrated all over India by different names. Also, this is the time of the beginning of new year in many parts of the country.
Prof. Saluja acknowledged the presence of Mr. Jon Kaiman, the Deputy Executive of Suffolk County and his staff Mr. Mohinder Singh Taneja, besides recognizing and thanking his family and the media. He thanked the Arya Samaj of Long Island for inviting and honoring him.

India is a great nation with loving people, and it is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, and a multi-religious society. I dream of an India that is free from corruption at all levels. It would be a place where the betterment of the country and its people would be the sole agenda of the government. In India, corruption has been at the high side of the Indian politics for years and it has been filled with many greedy politicians whose interest is above the nation’s people; The rate of corruption is growing day by day and the common man suffers in the hands of politicians who are only interested in fulfilling their own selfish motives. Once corruption is out of the system many things will fall automatically in place such as the usage of the public fund. The public fund shall be utilized in improving India’s infrastructure, education, medical care, agriculture, military, and other sectors. We are not divided into Jain, Sikh, Hindu, Christian, Muslim, or any other religions. Different ethnic groups should be able to live in perfect harmony with each other. I want to see equality in education and employment, a nicely funded education system where the poor and the rich are able to acquire the same opportunity in order to gain the best education.

These, as well as significant infrastructure development, booming Agriculture and tremendous advancement in manufacturing, construction, electricity and gas and water supply sectors have positioned India as a Global leader.

Significance of Independence Day
We celebrate Independence Day for several reasons. Firstly, to rejoice the Independence from a colonial power who had all this while been siphoning away all the treasures and wealth away from our country and always gave us a raw deal in our lives. They made easy money and enriched themselves, enjoyed luxurious lives and kept us subdued as servants. Independence Day is also to remind us that we must make sure that our own people will not do the same and keep us downtrodden. That they will not be corrupt, will not enrich their own, will not keep us jobless, will not destroy our environment, our children, our seniors and our health and education systems, will not practice rotten demonetization schemes, will not leave black money overseas, will not do Rafael type deals and make tons of corrupt money, will not punish our farmers who demonstrate peacefully against tyranny, who fail to keep campaign promises, who fail to protect us adequately from Corona and Delta Virus, who practice religious divide and exploit devious IT manipulations to win elections etc. and in the end make us more unhappy and desperate than we were under the colonial rulers. Independence is to enjoy a better quality of life, of love and co-exist with mutual respect, built with our sweat. Let us not shortchange ourselves. Everyone, regardless of class or creed must get a fair share of a country’s prosperity. We can lose our freedom by making a wrong choice at the ballot box.

An NRI’s view on India’s 75th Independence Day celebrations
My name is Tirlok Malik. I am an Emmy nominated filmmaker, an Ayurveda Restaurateur, and a Happy Life Yoga speaker. I consider myself a world citizen, blessed to be born in India and now living in America. Many major American corporations including Microsoft, Google, IBM, FedEx, Master card, and Vimeo have Indian American CEOs. And many Indian Americans have found major success in diverse fields such as medicine, hospitality industry, real estate, IT as well as other areas. Indian Americans living all over America are celebrating the 75th Independence Day of India with parades, floats, band, music, dancers, and having Bollywood actors as grand marshals, local politiciansand celebrity sponsors as chief guests, etc. in many cities across America. There is a great sense of pride in it. And it’s also fun to attend these parades, meet many people, watch actors dance to the music, listen to patriotic speeches about how great India is. The food stalls are always great at these events. When I look around at attendees, I mostly see Indian Americans of all ages, including young people born in America, clapping and cheering. The whole atmosphere makes me remember how much I miss India, love India, it is a part of my DNA till I die and even after that as I believe in reincarnation and a part of me will always want to be born in India.
Now, I also know most people who are attending will not go to live in India permanently. It makes me question and at the same time I know the answer. I have made all my films about the migration conflicts and its effects on human feelings: be it ‘Lonely in America,’ ‘Love Lust and Marriage’, ‘Khushiyaan’ and ‘On Golden Years or my new short film ‘To New India with Love’. I remember when I was studying in the 5th grade in a school in Delhi, I was told that once upon a time India used to be a Golden Bird and people from all over the world came there for education, trade, cultural exchange, etc. As a student being raised without much worldly things, I desired more and also saw most students’ fathers working very hard to make a living. I used to secretly hope and wish for India to become the Golden Bird again so that every Indian living in India could have worldly comforts. But as I grew older the reality was very different. I still hope for India to become the Golden Bird again. After finishing college my destiny brought me to America where I have been fortunate enough to realize my American Dream. But, during my emotional moments I have always missed India and hoped for India to have half of the life’s comforts which we have in US.
When I visited my folks back in India for the first time, I realized that the country could be the Golden Bird again, but it can only be done only by Indians living in India. Yes, NRIs can also help towards this in many ways but ultimately the onus lies with the resident Indians. Every time I visit India, I see it’s getting better but it can do more. I still have that desire to see India become the Golden Bird in my lifetime. It is possible when all citizens of India are truly free from self-created emotional conflicts, greed, laziness, discrimination, intolerance, corruption, lack of trust and be independent and focused towards having true independence.
It is my request to India to celebrate the 75th Independence Day not only as a freedom from the British but as freedom from the negative attitude and thinking. Let’s make India again the Golden Bird for the citizens of India, a Guru for the rest of the world. This is my salute to the 75th Independence Day of my beloved India. No matter where I live, India will always be part of me. I love you, India.

This is the 75th Independence Day of India. This is the time to revise, what we have achieved and what we have to achieve. India is recovering from the Covid Crisis and moving to achieve its goals to make the country, strong, peaceful and prosperous. India is progressing in the leadership of a very strong and patriotic leader Prime Minister NarendraModi who wanted “Sabka Sath and Sabka Vikas.”
He said on this 75th celebration of independence the country will reflect “pride of Sanatan India and the glow of modern India “. He titled it Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.”
The dream of future India is the developed India. An India free of poverty and illiteracy, where poor are empowered, the bridge between the poor and rich is within acceptable limits. The underprivileged youth succeed. An India which realizes its full potential in every domain and the educated souls understand the importance of giving back what they have taken from the society. People of India should be mobilized towards boundless energy, spirit and strength so that youth of India can carry out activities aimed at the betterment of life. India has won 5 medals this year Olympics should win many more in future. It will be a country where women are respected and people from all religions co-exists and where every citizen is proud to be an Indian.

HICKSVILLE,NY (TIP): India Day Parade (IDP) USA drew crowds despite of inclement weather on Sunday, August 8. It was the 7th parade in 10 years of the existence of IDP USA. Last year, because of Covid conditions, the organizers took out a car rally. Earlier, the parade was not taken out for 3 years on account of internal strife among the founders / organizers.
Starting from Patel Brothers Plazaon South Broadway, the parade made it to the entertainment stage at the parking lot near Asa Mai Hindu temple, off North Broadway.
Because of intermittent rain, not many people thronged the sides of the 2-mile route.
On the way, pro-farmers protesters at some places gathered and shouted slogans in favor of protesting farmers in India. They also carried placards saying,“No Farmers, No Food.”
At the entertainment venue, a larger group of pro-farmers protesters carrying placards, shouted anti-India government and anti-Modi slogans, and demanded that the government talk to protesting farmers to resolve their issues. Some of the representatives who addressed the gathering from the stage said they were protesting peacefully in favor of the farmers who have been protesting for over a year now. They held the Modi government responsible for the loss of life of more than 400 farmers during their agitation, Terming the Modi government’s attitude as callous, they demanded that the government talk with them and resolve the issues. They said that Indians abroad fully supported the protesting farmers and would continue to give them all support until the anti-farmers laws are annulled.
Indian Overseas Congress group which was to march in the parade took a decision not to join the parade in view of the avowed support of their Party in India. Mr. Mohinder Singh Gilzian, IOC USA president said that their support for farmers will continue until justice is done to them. He called upon Modi government to take a step forward and meet with the protesting farmers and resolve the issue in the interest of the Indian nation. “There can be no better occasion than the Independence Day of India to take a bold initiative,” he said.

The Guests of Honor included internationally renowned oncologist Padma Shri Dr Dattatreyudu Nori, Diwali Foundation USA Chair Ranju Batra, Navika Group CEO/President Naveen Shah and young guru and motivational speaker Ishan Shivanand. Other notable guests included Farah Mozawalla, director of minority affairs of Nassau County and Ragini Srivastava, an upcoming politician.
The comely Ileana D’Cruz, wearing a floor length crème colored dress, was quite a sport, posing with fans. She is an Indian-born Portuguese actress who predominantly appears in Telugu and Hindi language films.
The entertainment stage saw a few scintillating song and dance numbers and 37 performances by kids, and the program finished around dusk. Facing the stage were 45 stalls selling ethnic clothes and jewelry and food of course. For kids there were free rides and free popcorn. Most stalls did not have customers and folded up because of inclement weather.
A Nissan car sponsored by DP Singh of Meetu Magic was the first prize of the raffle. He was there to take out the draw and the lucky winner turned out to be Suhag Mehta, impresario, and part of the founding team of IDP. Other raffle prizes included an Apple watch, a 50-inch TV set, and 2 air tickets courtesy CheapOair.
President Bansal said the parade represents our motherland and people who come out to support make India proud. He thanked the IDP USA office bearers and committee chairs for working tirelessly over 3 months to prepare for the massive parade.
According to the press release sent to The Indian Panorama, the parade was supported by top brands including Phalguni-Chintu Patel, Navika Group, The South Asian Times, CheapOair, , Patel Brothers, Vass Pipe, The Portables Choice Corp, PICC, Flushing Bank, STI Consultants, Maharaja, Badshah, Property Professionals, Commercial Capital Funding Group, Elevator the movie, Indian Visa Center, BCB Bank, Omni Mortgage, HAB Bank, No Limit Auto Body and Shiv Yog. Supervisor Don Clavin and the Town Board recognized the holiday as an important celebration of freedom in the world’s most populous democracy and thanked the Indian-American community for their contributions to America’s largest township. Hempstead Town Supervisor Don Clavin was joined by members of the Town Board and dignitaries from the Indian American Forum for a ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag of India to mark the 72nd India Republic Day. The small socially distanced ceremony held outside of Hempstead Town Hall was an important show of solidarity between the world’s most populous democracy as it observed its historical day of transition to a republic, and America’s largest township. What’s more, the event was streamed live on the Town of Hempstead Facebook Page and featured a special message from the Consulate General of India, New York, Mr. Randhir Jaiswal. “The Town of Hempstead is the proud home of a great number of Indian-American families who continue to add to the incredible diversity found in the economic, civic, and cultural life of America’s largest township,” said Supervisor Don Clavin. “Our community is better for their contributions, and I am glad to celebrate this important day with my Indian-American neighbors.”
The histories of both the United States and the Republic of India have been interwoven through the decades since the original Republic Day whereupon the two nations emerged as intrinsic partners on the world stage. The deep ties produced through this transoceanic partnership extend to the individual level as well, with the United States being home to a large and fast growing Indian American community. While the COVID-19 pandemic has forced celebrants to reimagine traditional Republic Day festivities both in the Town of Hempstead and elsewhere, Supervisor Clavin and the Town Board felt it necessary to observe the holiday which honors the adoption of the Constitution of India on January 26, 1950 and the transition of the nation to a republic.
The limited event still featured the recognition of three honorees by the Town of Hempstead and the Indian American Forum, as well as patriotic song performances and blessings from Pandit Samiran Chakraborthy of New York Kali Mandir Temple. Nipun Marwaha performed the American and Indian National Anthems and Jyoti Gupta led the patriotic song medley. The event was sponsored by the Indian American Forum, Long Island Ladies Circle, Indian Association of Long Island and the India Day Parade Committee.
The first honoree serves as Chief Legal Officer for the Nassau Health Care Corporation. Megan C. Ryan oversees all legal, privacy and ethics functions for the various hospitals included in the corporation. Playing a vital role in keeping these hospitals running efficiently during the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms. Ryan has done such a spectacular job that her efforts were recognized by the New York Law Journal and Law.com. In addition to her work with Nassau Health, Ms. Ryan is currently serving her second term as president of the North Merrick Board of Education.
The second honoree is no stranger to anyone from Freeport. Chief Raymond Maguire has worn many hats in the Freeport Fire Department throughout his decades of service. He currently wears two, serving as both Executive Director and Secretary of the Freeport Fire Department. Additionally, Chief Maguire has served as President of the local chamber of commerce for several years and is currently a Vice-Chairman for the Toys for Tots Foundation.
The third honoree is the owner of local Indian eatery Rajbhog Café since 2001. Sheetal Talati was born and raised in Mumbai, India, and is the chief proprietor for her restaurant. In fact, Rajbhog Café is one of the only businesses in the Long Island Indian Business Fraternity that is solely women-owned and operated. Her restaurant serves as a common meeting place for seniors, peers and community leaders and is an integral part to the neighborhood.

The majority of Indian-Americans are of progressive bend that aligns with the personality of Kamala. For this reason alone, majority of Indian Americans may vote for Democrats in the forthcoming presidential election.

Kamala will change the role of Vice-presidency and be more active in domestic politics, and most certainly, she will not be a docile poodle like Pence. Kamala will stand her ground; we needed a VP who can say no to the president; she will be the one.
Is there an Indian who has not read about Kamala Harris? I have lapped up everything that came across about Kamala. She makes us proud of being an Indian American, she and our Indian American Congressmen give us hope and are the role models for the next generation.
Sen. Harris is progressive and inclusive. She will not buy into the prejudices that hold the nation back. Her intellectualism is a breath of fresh air; indeed, it is worth watching her grill Judge Bret Kavanaugh and attorney general nominee William Barr.
She is the perfect candidate for Vice-president and I will be voting for her and possibly campaign, as I did for Obama. By the way, I am an independent voter.
I have run into her several times in the Hart Senate Building, and her office is the first office as you enter the building. I have given her my book American Muslim Agenda, a book about building a cohesive America.
One of the questions that haunt me is to find out if Kamala Harris had faced exclusion from the Indian American community while growing up, as her father was black. Indian Americans are still struggling with racism, casteism, and prejudices.
Kamala Harris will undoubtedly work for stronger ties with India, provided Modi Bhai gets his act together. She will not tolerate Modi’s hatred for fellow Indians who are Christians and Muslims.
The blind Modi Worshippers will work hard for Trump as their racism aligns with Trumps’. The Good news is they are a few of them, and it will not make a dent.
Kamala owes an apology to the Sikh community for how she opposed the Turbans in the police force while she was the Attorney General of California.
I am not voting for Kamala, because she is of Indian Origin, I have been a fan of hers since I watched her grill Kavanaugh and Barr. She will be a great vice-President.”

“Kamala Harris has created history by being the 3rd woman , 1st Black & 1st Indian American to be running for Vice President of America. Being an American, I am proud of my country that after electing its first Black President in 2008 we are definitely moving beyond race, religion & gender.
Then as an Indian American, I have mixed feelings for Kamala’s candidacy. She always claims that she & her sister were raised by her mother, who was from India, as Black. That’s the most admirable thing about her for identifying herself with both cultures. The most disturbing well-known fact about her that she used her sexuality to ride to the top in politics. An unfair means to grab power. I don’t care about her sexual preferences but it is unethical & unfair just like the use of money or muscle power to grab power. Lot of male politicians had affairs and mistresses but they never used it to ride to the top. Fair competition is the foundations of democracy. If women rise to the top by sleeping with people in power the democratic system will no longer be supported by people of talent and principles. Such people are flash only with no substance and lack ideological compass. Use of money power, muscle power or sexuality in politics is worst for a country & its citizen. Live example is the plight of Indians currently ruled by politicians with flash only, no substance and total lack of ideological compass. They gained power by using muscle power, money power and religion.
Kamala being an opportunist lacks political ideology, always combine her flash with her killer political instinct. She adopted Bernie Sander’s policies to claim she believes in progressive left policies and then abandoned him to claim she is a moderate when she ran for President!. Even before the first vote was cast for primaries; she abandoned her bid for President after major flip flops in debates. Her flip flops, low poll numbers & even rock bottom Black votes during primaries will be a drag on Biden. Biden who is famous for his gaffes for over 4 decades in Washington; lately his gaffes have become a serious matter of concern about his health. If elected he will be of Regan’s age when he left office. That is a matter of grave concerns; Kamala with hardly any political ideology and stamina for political fights that she can take over as President if the need arises. So the voters should keep all these things in their mind when they will vote to Elect the President of the most cherished and powerful democracy in the world; United States of America!”

“Congratulations to Senator Kamala Harris for her nomination to Mr. Biden’s ticket for the position of the Vice President. It’s proverbially known as a position that is a heartbeat away from Presidency! No VP candidate has drawn bigger attention as she has done and there are good reasons to analyze in that regard. She will give a much-needed flamboyance to the Biden campaign and as a former Attorney General of California she brings with her an enormous ability to argue a position as anyone can do. She is the best of all available option except perhaps for Ms. Warren, perhaps.
That said , we Indians need not go mushy or sentimental or emotional about her “Indian” heritage ! She is not an ABCD since she carefully crafted her future as a black woman and her entire political career is woven around the identity of her black color. Her mother is a Tamil Brahmin and that’s where her things Indian ends. What we must bear in mind relates to her position on matters relating to India and that is not a positive given her past statements against laws passed in Indian parliament with overwhelming mandate.
In any case , the position of Vice President is vital in this election given Mr. Biden is almost 78 and thus the VP has to be battle ready from day one. I am of the opinion , that since Mr. Biden is a one term President, he might choose to step down ( for a variety of reasons) mid-way to pave way for the first ever ascent to the Presidency by a woman in America! Highly probable !
Mr. Biden will lose or win based entirely on his performance! His policy pronouncements have been remarkably anti-India and thus , Indians would do well to vote Trump whose policies have been truly pro India. For the first ever time , US and India have taken joint action to hit China for its Wuhan virus and border attacks by banning Chinese app makers. The battle has just begun. Democrats , Biden and his son have had murky financial equations with China !
Beware Indians of the Democrats in this 2020 elections. Do nothing that hurts our country of origin !”

“The Kamala Harris selection by Biden to be his running mate has a lot of significance for the Indian-Americans, some positive, some negative. It will excite many Indian-Americans. This is the closest India has come to the Oval Office. With Biden being 77-year old and she 55, there is a very good chance that she could be the president during Biden’s first term, if there is a Biden win.
However, there is a lot of negative in the Indian-Americans for her. Until she was contesting for the President, during the Democratic primary season, she had not associated herself with the Indian-American population. That is why, at a debate podium, questions were raised to her about her being of Indian heritage and hiding it. That opened this issue for her. Several reporters, since, asked her openly about her not espousing her Indian descent. It was only then that she accepted her Indian blood.
I am sure this question will come to haunt her during the presidential campaign. Both Indian-Americans and the Trump-supporting reporters will not let it die. No matter what, this lack of her association with her Indian heritage will have some negative effect on the Indian-American votes for Biden.
This election cycle, the Indian-Americans for Trump has been expecting a big turnout of the Indian-Americans for Trump, some of which will be dampened. Nevertheless, Harris’ selection by Biden will send negative vibes among the black voters. While many of them may not vote for Trump, the lack of enthusiasm for the Biden-Harris ticket will keep them home on the election day.
Nevertheless, Trump will still win hands down. The Indian Americans for Trump will make sure of it.”
