NEW YORK CITY (TIP): In a moment of pride for the Sikh community, the New York City Council honored noted community leader Sarabjit Singh in recognition of his three decades of dedicated and selfless service to society.
The proclamation was presented during the observance of Sikh Heritage Month and the celebration of Vaisakhi. A longtime resident of Richmond Hill, Sarabjit Singh has played a significant role in uniting communities and promoting the values and teachings of Sikhism across New York and beyond.
For over 30 years, he has served as President of the Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle USA (East Coast), leading numerous youth camps, educational initiatives, interfaith programs, and the widely recognized “One Million Flyer Project.”
Sarabjit Singh has also been instrumental in promoting Gatka, the traditional Sikh martial art, in New York, besides actively participating in relief and community support efforts following the tragic events of 9/11.
Speaking on the occasion, he said:
“Service is not something done only in one’s free time — true service means always being ready to stand up for others.”The recognition by the New York City Council stands as a tribute to his lifelong commitment to community service, youth empowerment, and the preservation
of Sikh heritage and values.
