Actor-producer Priyanka Chopra is leading a global campaign to spread awareness on gender-based violence called #StandWithHer. A Variety report states that Mindy Kaling and Dev Patel are joining her in this initiative.
The campaign is inspired by director Nisha Pahuja’s Oscar-nominated documentary To Kill a Tiger. It will be launched in New York, USA, on Wednesday. Priyanka said, “Gender-based violence is a global crisis, yet too often, it remains hidden in the shadows. I am honoured to support the #StandWithHer campaign, inspired by Nisha’s powerful documentary To Kill a Tiger, to help drive meaningful change.”
To Kill a Tiger is streaming on Netflix and tells the story of a farmer from Jharkhand, India, called Ranjit, who fights for justice after three men sexually assault his 13-year-old daughter. Despite death threats, ostracisation and hardships, the family persevered to secure a landmark ruling in the case. The documentary will be screened across the US in cities like New York, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Washington DC.

Priyanka Chopra confirms Bollywood comeback
After making her mark in the Hindi film industry, and a permanent place in our hearts, Indian actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas shifted her focus to the West. She appeared in American TV series and Hollywood films, eventually emerging as a global icon. Well, the last Hindi film that fans saw PeeCee in was The White Tiger (2021), alongside Adarsh Gourav and Rajkummar Rao. It’s been three years now and audiences really miss Priyanka in Bollywood. Much to the delight of movie-buffs, the actor has now confirmed that she hopes to return to the Indian silver screen with a Hindi film in 2025.
Priyanka recently graced the Red Sea Film Festival 2024 held in Jeddah. During the same, the actor talked about signing an Indian film soon. In a viral video from the event, PeeCee shared, “I take my roots wherever I go. It’s a part of my family, it’s a part of my upbringing. India has always been in my heart, Indian films will always be a part of my heart. I am very close to deciding on doing one next year, so keep your fingers crossed. Send good vibes that it works out and that I actually end up doing one next year. I really miss the dancing more than anything.”
We are sure fans will be over the moon with joy after hearing this! Well, this Indian film that Priyanka has hinted at will be a perfect addition to her already glorious line up of upcoming releases. This year, the actor wrapped up two exciting Hollywood films— Ilya Naishuller’s American action comedy Heads of State co-starring Idris Elba and John Cena, and action drama film The Bluff where Priyanka will be seen as a pirate fighting to protect her family.

Priyanka Chopra hints at Bollywood comeback next year – could it be for Jee Le Zaraa?
While Priyanka Chopra Jonas is currently juggling two major projects — the American action-comedy Heads of State, where she shares the screen with Idris Elba and John Cena, and the action drama The Bluff — it appears that the global star is finally set to return to her home turf after a six-year hiatus. In a significant update, Priyanka recently revealed that she is close to zeroing in on a new Hindi project.
“Not joking, I meet many filmmakers here, read scripts. I have actively been looking for something I want to do in Hindi. This year was really busy for me. But I have something up my sleeve, I will leave it at that,” Priyanka said during a chat with HT City. Naturally, the next question was whether she was referring to the Farhan Akhtar directorial Jee Le Zaraa. “You will need to speak to Excel (Entertainment, Farhan Akhtar’s production house) about that,” she said, offering no further details.
Touted as a road movie, Jee Le Zaraa has been generating significant buzz since its announcement in 2021, since it features Priyanka, Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhat in the lead roles. Co-written by Zoya Akhtar, Farhan Akhtar and Reema Kagti, with Farhan himself at the helm, the film has faced delays due to difficulties in coordinating the schedules of the three lead actors and the director. Zoya, during an appearance on The Indian Express’ Expresso show earlier this year, confirmed that the film remains in the works and that the delays were due to scheduling conflicts.
Though her home ground misses her, Priyanka remains at the top of her game globally. She recently wrapped up filming for the second season of her Amazon Prime Video spy series Citadel. Reflecting on her ability to navigate different cultures, she credited her teenage years in the United States with making the transition smoother.
“The industry in itself… the process of filmmaking is same everywhere. It’s the cultural differences which make them different industries, else the cameras, the shots, everything is the same. I can’t be rigid in India, expecting it to be Hollywood-like in Bollywood, or vice versa. Be like water, and not rigid. I have always been like that my whole life… keep quiet, listen and find your place. I was thrown into it to figure it out,” she told HT City.
“I have been a public person more than half my life, for 25 years now. I am extremely private. So, the hard part is really to be able to manage expectations or public pressures. I have changed a lot. Being a professional, being able to deal with failure and change… that’s the hardest part. I am not someone who talks about my vulnerabilities or hardships very much. There are some people who do, and I find it very… inspiring. I was raised to be tough and hold yourself together,” she added. Her last Bollywood film was The Sky Is Pink (2019). -

Priyanka Chopra says was being pushed into a corner in Bollywood
Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas has revealed the reason she left Bollywood and moved to working in the US. She said that she had “beef with people” and was pushed into a corner.
She also revealed that she was not the happiest with the work she was getting from the Hindi film industry.Priyanka was speaking to Dax Shepherd on his podcast Armchair Expert and said that for the first time as she was feeling “safe” during their conversation.
Talking about her music career, Priyanka said Anjula Acharia of Desi Hits spotted her in a music video and called her up when she was shooting for ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’. She asked if she would be interested in a music career in US.
“I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break,” she said.
“This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn’t want to get but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require grovelling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn’t feel like I wanted to do it,” she added.
“So when this music thing came I was like ‘fu** it I’am going to America’,” she said.
She talked about all the stars she worked with from Pitbull, Will.I.Am to Pharell Williams and even met JayZ. However, when the music career did not work out, she quickly realised she was ‘much better at my day job’.
She then shared that someone suggested that she try out for acting roles in the US as well. Which she did and eventually landed herself the lead role in ‘Quantico’ in 2015.
After that, Priyanka was been seen in big budget Hollywood releases such as ‘Baywatch’, ‘Matrix: Revolutions’, ‘The White Tiger’ and will be seen in ‘Citadel’ and ‘Love Again’.

I understand a lot of people must be angry and thinking about, ‘Why are we in this place in the first place? Why is this happening?’ We will address that but after we stop the urgency. Please donate and please use your resources as much as you can. India needs you,” she added.
Priyanka wrote in her Instagram post that she has set up a fundraiser with GiveIndia. “Whatever you can spare, truly makes a difference. Nearly 63 million people follow me on here, if even 100,000 of you donate $10, that’s $1 Million, and that’s huge. Your donation will go directly to healthcare physical infrastructure (including Covid care centres, Isolation centers, and oxygen generation plants), medical equipment, and vaccine support and mobilization,” she wrote.
Priyanka said that she and her husband, Nick Jonas, have already contributed to the cause and ‘will continue to’. She also talked about how ‘heartening’ it is to see so many people stepping up to do their bit to help. Earlier this week, Priyanka sought Covid-19 vaccines for India, and tweeted about the US ordering ‘more vaccines than needed’.

Oscars 2021: Anthony Hopkins wins best actor, Nomadland best picture

Martin Desmond Roe, left, and Travon Free pose with award for best live action short film for “Two Distant Strangers”. In a stunning close to a largely predictable Oscar ceremony, Anthony Hopkins won Best Actor for his work in The Father over the late Chadwick Boseman, who died last year of cancer and has swept awards season so far for his performance in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Chloe Zhao made history at the 93rd Academy Awards as the first woman of colour to win the Oscar for Best Director for Nomadland, which also won Best Picture. She’s also only the second woman in Oscar history to win the award after The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow. Frances McDormand, star of Nomadland, won her third Best Actress Oscar, matching Daniel Day-Lewis’ three Best Actor Oscars. Joining Chloe Zhao in the history-making category was Youn Yuh-jung, Best Supporting Actress for Minari. Daniel Kaluuya completed his awards grand slam this year with the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Judas And The Black Messiah.
The first Oscar of the show went to Emerald Fennell who won Best Original Screenplay for Promising Young Woman; Best Adapted Screenplay was won by The Father. The White Tiger, starring Priyanka Chopra, was nominated in this category.
Another Round, from Denmark, was awarded Best International Feature Film. “We wanted to make a film that celebrates life,” said director Thomas Vinterberg who made the film while facing a tragic personal loss – his daughter, who was cast in Another Round, died in a car accident. The official entry from India this year – Jallikattu – failed to make the shortlist.
Mank, which led the nominees slate with 10 nods, won two Oscars – Best Cinematography and Best Production Design. Sound Of Metal, starring Pakistani-origin actor Riz Ahmed, also won two of its six nominations – Best Sound and Best Film Editing. The nominations were announced last month by Priyanka Chopra and husband Nick Jonas.
The Oscars this year were historic at several levels – for one, it boasts the most diverse list of nominees in the history of the Academy Awards; for another, in addition to the traditional venue of Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, much of the ceremony is taking place at Union Station. This year, the categories of Best Sound Mixing and Best Sound Editing have been consolidated into a single Best Sound award. Also, there is no host for the award ceremony for the third year running.

Priyanka Chopra wants Hollywood to embrace Asian stories
Priyanka Chopra wants to get south Asian stories “influxed” into Hollywood. The 38-year-old actress – who was born in Jamshedpur, India, but now lives in the US – is determined to see more diversity in the American movie business, after starring in Netflix’s new Indian drama ‘The White Tiger’. Priyanka – who married Nick Jonas in 2018 – explained: “I chased after this movie, actually, I read about it on Twitter. “I had read this book about a decade ago. I was very excited and profoundly moved by it so when I read about the fact that it was being made by Netflix, I got my agents to call the producers and offered my services.” Priyanka – who plays the role of Pinky Madam in the movie – relished the chance to make the film and bemoaned the general lack of diversity in the industry. She told Sky News: “Pinky as a part has really developed in the movie but I really wanted to be an executive producer on this to offer my support. And my belief is to be able to get South Asian stories influxed into Hollywood. “We don’t see enough representation in global entertainment, considering we’re one-fifth of the world’s population. So I was very, very excited to offer my support to this movie.” Priyanka has also revealed that Nick, 28, is a big fan of her new movie. The former Miss World admitted that her husband is a hugely supportive influence in her career. Asked if Nick is her biggest supporter, she replied: “Well, I would like to believe that family does that for each other. He does love this film, though. He’s a very big fan of the movie, I have to say.”
