Trump kicks off July Fourth festivities at Mount Rushmore

Touted America as a unique and strong nation whose best days are ahead of it, in a speech at Mount Rushmore ahead of tomorrow’s celebration in Washington, D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (TIP): US President Donald Trump on Friday (local time) proclaimed July 4, 2026, as the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the ‘Declaration of Independence’, signed pardons for six people who were prosecuted under the Biden administration, and delivered Independence Eve remarks at Mount Rushmore.

In his proclamation marking America’s 250th Independence anniversary, Trump declared, “Now, therefore, I, Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim July 4, 2026, as the 250th Anniversary of the Adoption of the Declaration of Independence. I urge all Americans to proudly observe this day with all due ceremony to honor the glorious heritage, history, and accomplishments of our beloved Republic.”

The proclamation celebrated the nation’s founding, its historical milestones and outlined Trump’s vision for what he described as a “new American Golden Age.”

“We will continue to adventure into the cosmos, returning Americans to the lunar surface for all time to come and charging ahead to plant the Stars and Stripes among the red dunes of Mars. We will seize the new frontiers of artificial intelligence and quantum discovery, unleash the boundless energy beneath our soil, and expand the wealth and abundance of the American People,” the proclamation said.

It added, “Today, as one American People, we celebrate and carry forward the spirit our Founders kindled in Philadelphia and enshrined in the Declaration of Independence and with God’s help, we will prevail in making our beloved Nation stronger, prouder, richer, and greater than ever before.”

Trump also announced that he had pardoned six individuals, who he said were prosecuted under the Biden Administration.

In a post on Truth Social, he said, “It is my Great Honor to have just signed Pardons for six people who were persecuted by the Biden Administration, and were in, or being sent to, prison, for ‘fixing their car.’ While I know this sounds ridiculous, it is nevertheless a fact, and part of the Weaponization and Stupidity that our Country had to endure during four long years of Sleepy Joe Biden. I am setting them all free, right now !”

According to CNN, Trump did not identify the six individuals or provide further details about the allegations they faced. CNN, citing a senior White House official, reported that Trump met senior officials earlier on Friday (local time) to discuss the pardons, which relate to people convicted of violating the Clean Air Act, a federal law aimed at reducing emissions and improving air quality.

The clemency falls under the “250 pardons for 250 years” initiative, serving as a focal point of the nation’s milestone birthday festivities.
Trump took the stage at Mount Rushmore just after 11 p.m. ET.
“Tonight we gather on the eve of one of the most extraordinary days in the history of the world. Tomorrow, we mark 250 years of glorious independence and 250 years of majestic American freedom. Nothing like it,” he said.

As forecast by press secretary Karoline Leavitt, Trump began by focusing on America’s strength, calling the U.S. the “most powerful country on Earth.”

“By the grace of God, the United States of America is the most successful, most accomplished, most exceptional nation ever to exist in human history, and it is great to be your president,” he said.
Communism came in for a lot of derision in Trump’s 30 -minute speech.

Echoing a point he’s made a lot recently, Trump brought up communists, a label he’s applied to multiple Democrats running for election in 2026.

“There is now a resurgence of the communist menace in our land, including from newcomers to our country, who embrace ideas totally opposed to our way of life and our great success,” Trump said.

He called Communism “a mortal threat to American liberty,” akin to 9/11; “the enemy of the Constitution”; “the enemy of July 4, 1776”; and “the enemy,” in general.

“So, on the eve of this 250th anniversary of American heritage, we resolve and swear for all to hear, that the citizens of the United States of America will vanquish Communism quickly,” Trump said, adding to the audience: “Don’t let them take too much of your time.”

The president then pivoted to this November’s elections, saying Republicans could lose only “if we allow ourselves to lose the midterms” by failing to overturn the Senate filibuster and pass the SAVE America Act, a major election bill that got a big round of applause from tonight’s audience. If Congress does those two things, Trump said, “then we will not lose an election for 100 years.” Trump has repeatedly invoked America’s unique identity and culture, saying, “There has never been anything like this.”

“We can never forget that American liberty has not endured for 250 years merely because of words on paper. Liberty has prevailed here because of the culture and character of the people who declared it, defended it and preserved it,” he said.

Passing on that character, he said, is “the core of patriotic duty of every American.”

But in recent years, he said, there has “been an undeniable attempt to change this exceptional character to beat the American spirit out of us, alienate us from our history, and to make it impossible to even answer the question, ‘What does it mean to be an American?'”

“So, tonight, let us say clearly and proudly, what makes Americans so unique and extraordinary, we’re going to give our country its identity back,” Trump said. “Above all, Americans love freedom.”

Later, he added: “You do not have to be born here, but you do have to love what we have built, you must love our country.”

The president concluded his remarks with hope and optimism for America’s golden age to come.

“Tomorrow, we reach a milestone like no other and celebrate with hearts and soaring spirits,” Trump said, “because after two and a half centuries, we know that this is not an ending, this is only the beginning of the golden age of America.”

Just before ending his speech, Trump made brief mention of the war with Iran, saying, “They’re dying to settle. They want to settle so badly. We gave him a week off for a funeral because we’re nice.”
The America 250 celebration at Mt. Rushmore ended with a fireworks show after President Donald Trump’s remarks.
