‘Stand Down’ to Clothe & Feed Homeless Veterans on July 12th: Nassau County Executive Mangano

MINEOLA, NY (TIP): Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano announced that a Veterans Stand Down will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at American Legion, 160 Marvin Avenue in Hempstead. The Stand Down, from 10am – 2pm, is hosted by the Nassau County Veterans Service Agency (VSA) with assistance from volunteers representing all service organizations.

“My administration is committed to serving our veterans and ensuring resources are provided to them once they return home from service,” said County Executive Mangano. “Nassau County Stand Downs have assisted veterans in securing benefits, job counseling, legal advice and dental care. I thank all those good citizens who donate their time to making this event a success.”

Veterans will receive assistance with securing entitled benefits, job counseling and legal advice. Clothes and food donated from the community will be available to the veterans, as well as a BBQ, haircuts, medical screenings, enrollment in the Veterans Affairs (VA) health care system and dental cleaning offered by Dental on the Go.

Representatives from Nassau County government agencies will be participating, including the departments of Social Services, Health, and Human Services, as well as The Salvation Army, the New York State Department of Labor, The Department of Veterans Affairs, New York State Division of Veterans Affairs and The Red Cross.
