Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson are stepping into a story where the truth is never quite what it seems. The trailer of Verity, based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling psychological thriller, offers a closer look at the secrets waiting inside a remote estate. The film will release in India on October 2, 2026.
Hathaway plays Verity Crawford, a successful author who is left unable to complete her book series after a personal tragedy. Johnson plays Lowen Ashleigh, a struggling writer who is brought in to finish Verity’s work.
What begins as a writing assignment soon takes a disturbing turn.
Lowen moves into the Crawford family’s remote estate to work on Verity’s unfinished books. While there, she discovers what appear to be Verity’s autobiographical notes. What she reads is far more disturbing than anything she expected.
The writings contain deeply unsettling confessions about Verity’s marriage to Jeremy Crawford, played by Josh Hartnett, and the events surrounding their family. As Lowen continues reading, the boundaries between Verity’s version of events and reality begin to blur.
Soon, Lowen finds herself caught between suspicion and attraction. What exactly happened inside the Crawford home? And can she trust what she is reading?
The trailer leans into that uncertainty, keeping Verity herself at the centre of the mystery. Hathaway’s character remains an unsettling presence even when she is not physically at the centre of the action, while Johnson’s Lowen is pulled deeper into a situation she may no longer be able to control.
Directed by Michael Showalter, Verity adapts Hoover’s 2018 novel, which became a bestseller and developed a large readership for its mix of psychological suspense, secrets and complicated relationships.
The film is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing International. It will release in cinemas in India on October 2, 2026.
