NEW YORK CITY (TIP): To celebrate the 67th anniversary of India’s freedom, the Consul General of India in New York, Ambassador Dyaneshwar M. Mulay hosted a Reception at the Consulate which was attended by about 250 guests. The dignitaries present included B S Bisnoi, Deputy Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Raja Ali Ejaz, Consul General of Pakistan, Said Lutfullah Sadat, Consul General of Afghanistan and Yuin-Lyn Ng, Consul of Singapore.
Dr Ram Raju, President and CEO at New York City Health and Hospital Corporation and some prominent members of Indian-American community from different walks of were also present. Bollywood actor Jinal Pandya also joined the celebrations. Shambhu Amitabh, Vice Consul (Culture and Commerce) read extracts from President of India’s Message to the Nation in Hindi. Welcoming the guests to the celebrations, Ambassador Mulay highlighted the contribution of Indian Americans in different walks of life.

He appealed to the Indian American community to work wholeheartedly to building India-US relationship. The rich cultural heritage and development of India during the last six and half decades should be taken to the world community. A slide show of the activities undertaken by the Consulate in New York was much appreciated by the gathering which welcomed the outreach initiatives of the Consulate. Earlier, the Consul General rang the closing bell at NASDAQ Stock Exchange, New York on 15th August 2014 to mark the 67th anniversary of India’s Independence.
To mark the occasion, the Empire State Building, as usual, was also lit in the three colors of the Indian flag. A highlight of the celebrations was cake cutting to celebrate the birth of the independent India.
