Embassy of India in Bucharest Organises Cultural Activities
BUCHAREST (TIP): As part of the celebrations marking the 80th Independence Day of India, the Embassy of India, Bucharest organised a series of cultural and community engagement activities aimed at promoting India’s rich cultural heritage and strengthening people-to-people ties between India and Romania.
Drawing, Painting and Quiz Competitions
On Sunday, 9 August 2026, the Embassy organised a Drawing and Painting Competition and a Quiz Competition at the Embassy premises. The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large number of children from the Indian community and Friends of India.
The young participants displayed their creativity and imagination through colourful artworks inspired by India’s rich cultural heritage, traditions and national identity. The Quiz Competition also received an enthusiastic response, with participants demonstrating their knowledge of India’s history, culture, heritage and achievements.
The events provided an engaging platform for children and community members to celebrate India’s Independence Day while learning more about the country’s diverse cultural traditions.
Virtual Workshop on Phad Art
As part of the continuing Independence Day celebrations, the Embassy also organised a Virtual Workshop on Phad Art on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
Phad is a traditional scroll-painting art form of Rajasthan, known for its vibrant colours, intricate storytelling and depiction of legends associated with local heroes and deities. The workshop introduced participants to this distinctive Indian traditional art form and provided them with an opportunity to learn about its artistic techniques through an interactive virtual session.
A large number of Indian community children and Friends of India participated enthusiastically in the workshop. The Embassy provided the necessary art materials to enable participants to engage practically with the art form during the workshop.
The workshop provided an opportunity to showcase India’s rich intangible cultural heritage and generated considerable interest among the participants in India’s traditional arts and crafts.
Strengthening Community and People-to-People Ties
The cultural activities formed an integral part of the Embassy’s celebrations of India’s 80th Independence Day and provided meaningful opportunities for interaction among members of the Indian community, children and Friends of India.
The enthusiastic participation in the competitions and the Phad Art workshop reflected the strong interest in India’s history, culture and artistic traditions and contributed to strengthening cultural and people-to-people linkages between India and Romania.
The activities were also widely publicised through the official social media platforms of the Embassy of India, Bucharest, providing wider visibility to the celebrations and highlighting the enthusiastic participation of the community and Friends of India.
